  1. Boots is doomed to forever stay just outside the top #10 - she'll overtake GaGa just as Bloc Party zoom past.
  2. Get Shaky is an offence to popular music.

I thought the overwhelming opinion about George Lamb was: i) he knows nothing about music ii) you either hate him or really hate him iii) he's almost brought about the ruination of 6music

Not reall y the same here. Radio 1 has a remit set by charter to broadcast for a core age group: "The remit of Radio 1 is to entertain and engage a broad range of young listeners with a distinctive mix of contemporary music and speech. It should reflect the lives and interests of 15–29 year olds but also embrace others who share similar tastes." It's been argued for a couple of years that two middle-aged broadcasters in Whiley and Bowman talking about their children doesn;t do this, and is perhaps part of the reason for the average listening age for Radio 1 rising. On the preseenters themselves I think Bowman was long overdue a move as she clearly doesn't like pop music, so it was strange she had such a promient slot where she had to play it, and dislike this crept too much into her broadcasting. Whiley's a better broadcaster by far but was getting stale.
  5. Indeed - barring the Xmas X-Factor single it's virtually unheard of to sell over 70k in 2 days which is what MJ would require. The added difficulty of course being there's not a single song to choose from so the sales aren't focused on one track.
  6. Not sure what's suprrising about Off The Wall - it's generally considered an all-time classic album vying with Thriller as being his best work.
  7. Best: 1) Jimi Hendrix 'All Along the Watchtower' [Original: Bob Dylan] 2) Leona Lewis 'Run' [Original: Snow Patrol] 3) Soft Cell 'Tainted Love' [Original: Gloria Jones] 4) Johnny Cash 'Hurt' [Original: Nine Inch Nails] 5) The Beatles 'Twist and Shout' [Original: Barratt Strong] 6) No Doubt 'It's My Life' [Original: Talk Talk] 7) Mark Ronson & Amy Winehouse 'Valerie' [Original: The Zutons] 8) Eva Cassidy 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' [Original: Judy Garland] 9) The Clash 'I Fought the Law' [Original: Bobby Fuller Four] 10) The Byrds 'Mr Tambourine Man' [Original: Bob Dylan] Worst: 1) Madonna 'American Pie' [Original: Don McClean] 2) X Factor Finalists 'Hero' [Original: Mariah Carey] 3) Natasha Bedingfield 'Ray of Light' [Original: Madonna] 4) Britney Spears 'I Love Rock n Roll' [Original: The Arrows] 5) The Fray 'Hips Don't Lie' [Original: Shakira]
  8. I assume Inner Massivia's lack of votes was because the video didn't work. I just can't believe there were that many contestants in SF2 who have such bad taste in music or are deaf.
  9. Inner Massivia have voted.

  12. Can I recommend for your voting perusal: Inner Massivia with Brandi Carlile - The Story ncRQMB90_FQ I was hoping to have had more than 18 views in 8 days, particularly given I've seen it at least 8 times ;) ===== Is the video blocked for everyone? Might explain the lack of views!
  13. last accurate figures we saw for the singles as a group were: A Moment Like This: 852,662 Bleeding Love: 953,172 Better In Time/Footprints: 250,263 Footprints individual downloads as it charted by itself: 58,585 Forgive Me: 140,463 Run: 553,632
  14. how does Leona's Spirit rank on the rises? It's classed as the same album for chart purposes.
  15. That was the song from the EP I was going to send as well - hope it does well for you
  16. Hey Erik thanks for the thumbs up. She only released her album in the UK about five weeks ago - hadn't heard the song before!

  18. Inner Massivia is going for part-Sarah Bareilles, part-Nirvana, part-Roy Orbison: Country: Inner Massivia Artist: Brandi Carlile Song Title: The Story Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncRQMB90_FQ ncRQMB90_FQ I absolutely bloody love this
  19. I'd advise picking some dates at the start and sticking to them. I wasn't going to pop on until the middle of next week to do my confirmation so it's lucky I saw the change today. I've got nothing in principle against 3 weeks v 4 weeks, and like gooddelta I think a week off in between would be good, but once the dates for XVII were announced they shouldn't have been changed. Posters could easily be away for a long weekend from today and would miss out. I'd also suggest that a date/time for the reservation thread to be opened should be posted and stuck to otherwise it becomes a bit of a mockery - it was opened at least 12 hours earlier for this edition than originally posted on Sunday afternoon. Come Monday lunchtime and checking the forum I find virtually every artist known to man has been reserved ahead of when the thread was meant to be opened.

Ask her why she thinks Sweden makes such great pop compared to the other Scandinavian countries - is it the Abba legacy?
  22. None of the singles sold over 500k. They biggest selling single is Clint Eastwood at around 480k.
  23. Was hoping to delve backwards - both of the first two Spice Girl albums have 3 singles >500k. Oasis WTSMG will be another if Some Might Say sold more than 500k as both Wonderwall and Don't Look Back In Anger did. Not sure Westlife qualify at all - their singles have never sold majorly with the only two over 500k in the UK (I Have A Dream/Seasons In The Sun and Uptown Girl) coming from different albums.
  24. Using the suggestions and looking through the list of biggest selling singles of the 2000s I think there are only three examples: Leona - Spirit + 3 singles (A Moment Like This, Bleeding Love, Run) Take That - Beautiful World + 2 singles (Patience, Rule The World - Shine only sold 350k) Kings Of Leon - Only By The Night + 2 singles (Sex Is On Fire, Use Somebody) Gareth Gates had two singles sell >500k from 1 album but the album sold around 600k so he's in the same boat as Lady GaGa. Shaggy had two singles sell >500k from Hot Shot but that also sold only around 600k. Only Kylie's CGYOOMH sold more than >300k from the Fever album.
