I have her at 6 as well Norma :)
  2. I literally can't wait for Rochelle to be splashed all over the papers (and FHM, please!) in a couple of years ala Girls Aloud members :D
  3. That interview just shows this couldn't be happening to a nicer group of girls :)

They do, don't they? Someone told me their physical release was this week which sounds right because Chasing Lights was originally scheduled for next Monday and only very recently put back...or do you mean cause hardly anywhere sells singles aymore? Impressive gains though!

This is why I don't think it's that amazing - with the budget Peter Kay has, it's easy to get the video 'spot on', it's just a total copy with an amusing character thrown in instead of the genuine winner. Fair enough marvel at the show and/or the single (though I don't think it's particularly funny either!) but I don't think recreating the video took much effort at all! I'd prefer to see Leon top the charts, though if the Sats sprung a surprise, even better!

My latest update sees: Geraldine at 25 Leon at 4 Saturdays at 9!!! I am not always a massive girlgroup fan but I am so happy for the Saturdays, was not expecting this to even come CLOSE to the success of If This Is Love

This week I agree with the general concensus that the best three were Laura, Alexandra and Diana, followed (for me) by Austin, Eoghan, JLS and Girl Band. Ruth I thought was okay, Bad Lashes and Rachel were disappointing, and Daniel was downright dire. I love Scott and I think that while he was given one of the worst song choices in history (and therefore it was rather bad), his actually PERFORMANCE of it was nothing short of fantastic. His look, movements and persona during the song were perfect for it, the song just did nothing to showcase vocal talent. As far as the sing off goes, I went into this week thinking Bad Lashes were a great girl group and wondering why Girl Band were there. But GB outsang BL on both occasions, while last weeks Wonderwall was genius, it just fell totally flat live and didn't work for me, whereas Girl Band upped their game - I was pleased with the result. ------------------------------ Next week Simon HAS to give Scott a ballad to showcase the talent that is definitely there... and I can see him doing exactly what he did this week again - that is giving an American Idol performance (Eoghan's (good but) copycat performance of David Archuleta's Imagine) to one of his contestants to copy note for note. I'm predicting Austin to do a David Cook style Billie Jean. I'd love to see Rachel do 'Bad', good choice. davidobowie!, if Ruth sings in spanish again I'm going to throttle the b**ch! I'd like Alexandra to do 'Beat It'... could be a good show!

Hang on a moment, it's no-ones JOB to 'keep you in fixed links', do your own research! There's this new contraption called google.com which works wonders for me!

It was only released to itunes like yesterday, no? Last I looked it was 35, doing well!
  10. Haha, you've gone for the baptism of fire!! Personally, and I'm not an absolute Saturdays nut, I think it's one of the best single covers I've seen in a very long time! (oh and a great song)

I think the American's will 'get' No Substitute Love much more than we did, but I hope they'll be clever and not risk anything by moving onto Come Over with Sean immediately.. as much as I'd like Estelle to establish herself alone, he is a huge star and it's a good mix in my book...
  12. I do take your point.. and it's good that you let your son develop his own choices. Personally I think the tastes of myself and my Dad are quite similar... don't think I'd be as big an Elton John fan if my Dad wasn't such a stupidly massive fan.. also the singer-songwriters I like so much (James Morrison, James Blunt, Lucie Silvas) are the only current people he likes so I think there's definitely always going to be a degree of similarity in tastes... I totally agree about your Stars In Their Eyes/Brenda Lee point (although it doesn't make me go back on my original point about Ray's passion for the genre, cool or not!) which is why I had hoped someone would work with Ray on some new swing/jazz material and not try to be a stale tribute to his heroes... As for russt - if Leon DIDN'T perform on X Factor his marketing team would be the single worst marketing team ever. It's a tough job to become a mainstay in the industry, he'd be absolute bonkers to avoid the X Factor at this stage. If and when he makes it huge, it may be a wise decision to try and distance himself but for now it's absolutely the best platform to bring the single to a) the people that voted him and B) a non snobby platform that just happens to be the biggest in the UK!
  13. Cheers fella, might give it a sneaky listen!
  14. Perhaps you are right but they also made a big deal of the relationship he had with his father and his Dad being really into swing music etc which was the only type of music Ray then ended up loving... I seem to recall some clips of Ray singing or dancing to that genre as a child... What I mean is that when someone like Robbie or, worse, Westlife goes from a pop album to a swing album with no real reason it's not really credible - Ray came along and always wanted to record the classics album that he did end up doing. Perhaps there are elements of both our arguments that are right. I agree with you about the Geography thing and about doing an album of classics in general, though. I'd rather someone wrote some NEW swing music that meant something to them, not that meant something to Sinatra. I don't think Leon is anything like Ray as I think he only likes that music as he likes Buble, and would prefer he stuck to carving out his own musical path than be Buble mk.2, cause I think he could be great.
  15. Yes, it was... ! Doesn't mean the rest can't be credible!

Well she was just an American Idol runner up, I think. Not sure if Cowell wasn't a fan?

Woah at Jay-Z, woah at Jennifer, yess for Jordin - and weird that people are now downloading the album version of Miss Independent in such a majority!
  18. I am so not sure what to do about this.. have stated before that I really don't like them couldn't stomach On Call at all.. then Fans came about and I begrudgingly admit to liking it, and the Sex on Fire comes along and is AMAZING - which of these three is is most reminiscent of as a whole?

I think they are both absolutely wicked. My style is typically singer-songwriter with a guitar yada yada but for some reason I love Beyonce more than most people in the WORLD, I think it's because she's inspiring, because anything she turns her to she is absolutely incredible at. On the other hand, I really respect the fact Solange has taken a totally different route and made a credible effort to distinguish the pair of them... without belittling the fact that Beyonce makes more mainstream output. She's also quite exciting, I find myself watching her interviews to see what she says next! Her Tyra interview was fun. This song is just fantastic, as is I Decided but based on clips I haven't brought myself to pick up the album yet. (whereas I'm very excited for Beyonce's after B'Day. I think she'll always win for me! I think she seems really lovely and down to earth too though this may be wishful thinking mixed with naivety haha)

There's so much single worthy material on the album that it seems a silly move - didnt this already go top 40? Scouting for Girls re-releasing a top 40 single didn't go so well recently, and while this is a great tune, he could be releasing 'So Cold, 'Driving Me Crazy', 'Fly Away', 'I'll Never Love Again'....

No, I doubt it, although she's signing copies at Zavvi on Oxford St on Friday at 6pm. To be fair, apart from the Mercury's there has been no promotion, it wasn't the right single choice. However, on the hopeful side, that new Sean Paul remix of Come Over may help if she releases it next here. A radio DJ in the US was sent some new release material and when commenting on the new Beyonce single they also noted they had been sent that remix - hopefully that will be the new single there and will help her secure more than one hot. I'm perfectly happy for the UK to carry on ignoring her AS LONG AS she is making a splash in the US and we still get the material...
  22. It was 41 :( He's such a good talent, saw him at V and was impressed, lovely little song!
  23. Oh and apparently she stepped in for Paul McCartney on Jools Holland last night... I hope she performed well! That can do big things for you, KT Tunstall was discovered properly after being a stand in on Jools, and someone else famously did too - I want to say Corinne Bailey Rae but not sure.. hopefully this will do something for her!
  24. Lol what an odd thing to say.. most water parks I go to just replay songs from 2001... I really like this, it's inspired!
