Etzia's is the most unprofessional thing I've seen since ADRIJANA! I can't wait. Mariette's Sarek via Kygo chorus is spectacular (and by rights should make it in over Lisa Ajax's ABORTION) but I just don't know if she can make it past Lisa on the app vote.

Mariette's reminds me a bit of Perfect Strangers but I reckon it's gonna suffer from being nowhere near as imposing as Don't Stop Believing. Adore the sound of Pontare's but I'm astounded that Christer's put on two opening tracks that take over a minute to get to the chorus - despite Etzia sounding like she's having LIVE SUNSTROKE during her chorus she might get through on the basis of being the first thing that just gets to the bloody point. Allyawan has excellent production - it reminds me a lot of Förlåt mig but if it had been done by Zayn. Don't think it's got enough of a hook to go through. Dismissed's one is a total bore considering their look. Disappointed in Lisa Ajax coming back with something so cookie-cutter after the sheer wonder of My Heart Wants Me Dead, and I think Ben Ingrosso's got it sewn up by being the first thing with any real spark all evening, even though it sounds like Anton Ewald c. Begging doing Timberlake for Stars In Their Eyes.

Which country is the worst at Eurovision?
I'd actually forgotten Portugal - yep, aside from a brief little window between 2007 and 2009 (and odd flecks of wonder over the decades like Quero ser tua, Bem bom and Deixa-me sonhar), persistently dreadful.

Trump, Russians and Corruption
My point is that he isn't doing it as a strategy, and never really has been - before or after the campaign. It's a mistake to treat him as a rational actor rather than an instinctive reactor with a hypersensitivity to slights, a thin-skinned pride and a taste for vengeance. He only has strategy to the extent the last person he spoke to has strategy. Even then he is highly prone to revealing 'behind the scenes' justifications in the process of doing the few things that aren't knee-jerk responses - this Twitter thread is pretty illuminating in that regard. Bannon certainly seems to have a grasp of your theory, so it's happening sometimes. But he's not always the last person Trump spoke to - and Trump doesn't always get when not to say what Bannon told him. It would be a real mistake to view everything Trump does through the lens of a Machiavellian conspiracy.

Bannon however - possibly.

Trump, Russians and Corruption
This point has been made countless times within the media since November! Like, to the point where it's almost a tired meme verging on having been discredited - (try searching "distract from:stephenkb" on Twitter for a track of how long it's been going) The idea that the Muslim ban was an attempt to distract the media rather than a main policy of his is...not really one that stands up. The man (by a great deal of evidence) generally has the beliefs of the last person he spoke to. His tweets all evidence a man who reacts with a knee jerk rather than careful considered analysis of how he can be Machiavellian. The number of situations where there has been no conceivable advantage in what's he's been tweeting, or his actions...how did it help him to brag about his crowd sizes in front of the CIA Memorial Wall? Certainly not his relationship with the CIA, which was the whole aim of the event. And for what it's worth the US media is doing a pretty good job of highlighting other stuff that's apparently being distracted from - take the coverage of how the Republicans have painted themselves into a corner over abolishing Obamacare. It may be the case that media coverage and discussion of what he does is helping him, but all the testimony from people who've worked with him, his near-pathological inability to stick to a message (the deeply telling anecdotes from his team pre-election are pretty insightful on this - http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2016/...inal-days.html) and how he's responded to immediate scandal is that this is a lizard brain who shoots from the hip rather than engineering a grand strategy. There isn't a grand strategy here. The US is actually led by a volatile manchild. Which if anything is more terrifying.

Norway (Melodi Grand Prix) · Eurovision Song Contest 2017
NRK have put up the 10 artists with 15 second clips - https://www.nrk.no/kultur/disse-10-artisten...2017-1.13358124 Not one for the ages on first listen but there are a few off the chain delights in here - Mom Boy (which speaks for itself), the seriously hanging In Fusion, and DEFINITELY NOT ON DRUGS Elin of Elin & the Woods in particular.

Which country is the worst at Eurovision?
Lithuania without doubt - not a single entry I'd get out of bed for. Hopefully that comes to an end this year. I do like 00s Switzerland a fair amount but they've really phoned it in since Il pleut de l'or. Finland and Denmark are also low-key quite bad most years, but tend to have a lot of quality in depth in their national selections so they don't normally immediately come to mind.

I think Nano and Ace were pretty far ahead but I'd be very surprised if Nano didn't win last night by a clear distance. I also reckon Constellation Prize probably would've won if it hadn't been for Frans.

It's Icona Pop doing Boney M basically. I think Don't Worry only feels quintessential Ace because of the standard theme running through all of them of being an UTTER MESS!

I have SO MANY EMOTIONS. Heartbroken for Dinah but it was such a rollercoaster - I went in expecting it to stone flop, touched PURE JOY when the heart started exploding, touched FURTHER JOY when she graced us with that iconic rap breakdown (then classic MF schadenfreude at it immediately killing the heart), and then had a vague horrifying sense of doom that Boris would probably get enough votes to shove her out (there was no way De vet du weren't getting through and I was totally at peace with that because it's so much fun - it's basically Dolly Style - Rollercoaster FOR STRAIGHTS) Anyway, it's another 5th place for the ages. And on the upside we got the sheer wonder that is Wild Child, which is so catchy I think I may DIE SINGING IT (or being murdered by randomfurlong for my constant double handclapping into UHOHUHOHUHWHUHOA (BABY I'M A WILD CHI-*impaled by tomahawk* Hasse was a REVELATION FUCK YOU

01 - Ace Wilder - It's Brown Girl In The Ring and Alphabet Street sung by someone far too desperate to convince the world that she's having a great time - and it's completely fucking brilliant. 02 - Dinah Nah - "my lips are on fire": this is everything I want from a loving tribute to getting chlamydia after a fingering at Magaluf 2004 and would definitely go direkt in Essexfestivalen. I don't see an audience for this tonight whatsoever and it's all the better for it. LOVE THE RAP VERSE DINAH NAH 4EVA 03 - Charlotte - I hope she throws a scrap to her loyal fans and performs this astride a glittered unicorn or something, but frankly if I can still come back to Melodifestivalen every time it spits in my face I can't abandon the queen over this given it's really nice in a 'staying at home on a rainy day' kind of way 04 - Nano - that drum n bass breakdown ruins what's otherwise an excellent track I wouldn't ordinarily be here for. THIS SOUND WAS TIRED FOUR YEARS OLD WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU SWEDEN 05 - De vet du - Rongedal with a creatine addiction going EDM is on paper the opposite of everything I enjoy in this world but for some reason I'm not hating this 06 - Adrijanna - this reminds me a lot of those leaks you used to get where they'd just loop the first thirty seconds for the whole thing 07 - Boris René - I didn't enjoy Happy the first time.

Trump, Russians and Corruption
Did you notice Trump firing his acting Attorney General for refusing to argue for a measure that will likely end up being found unconstitutional very quickly?
