I mean with Zootopia being a huge hit and on Disney+, I'm not surprised that it's a strong recurrent streamer. Even Dwayne The Rock Johnson's "You're Welcome" from the Moana movie is 2x Platinum

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice could provide a boost for Bee Gees' Tragedy, Richard Marx's Right Here Waiting, and Donna Summer's McArthur Park all brilliantly used in the movie.

BBC Radio 2's Top 30 Ultimate Pet Shop Boys Songs
Ahead of the festival, Radio 2 has revealed that listeners have voted West End Girls – which reached No. 1 in the UK in 1985 - their favourite Pet Shop Boys song of all time. It’s A Sin (1987 was in second place, and Always On My Mind (1987) in third place. The full Top 30 countdown will be featured in Your Ultimate Pet Shop Boys Song hosted by Mark Goodier, which is available on BBC Sounds (from Monday, August 19) and will be broadcast on Radio 2 on Saturday, August 24 (1-3pm). In July, Radio 2 listeners were asked to vote for their favourite Pet Shop Boys song. They could select up to five of their tracks from a list of their songs that have charted in the Top 100, including songs where they were a featured artist, plus album tracks chosen by a panel of experts, including Radio 2's Gary Davies. Also available on BBC Sounds (from August 19) is Your Ultimate Pet Shop Boys Song – The Extras featuring Pet Shop Boys songs that didn’t make the Top 30 chart. Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe said: “When this vote was launched we said we’d be very interested to hear what Radio 2 listeners chose as their favourite Pet Shop Boys song and the full Top 30 list of songs is fascinating. We are very pleased and not totally surprised that West End Girls has topped the chart! It’s a song we still love performing in concerts, 40 years since its first release.” The full Top 30 chart, as voted for by Radio 2 listeners, is: 1 West End Girls (1984) 2 It's A Sin (1987) 3 Always On My Mind (1987) 4 What Have I Done To Deserve This? Neither have released music videos yet so I think both still could if they release their videos before ACR hits.

Would be great to see Forever Young get a new peak. It's far too much of a classic to have only peaked at #98 on its initial release.

The Top 200 singles of all time
Next certification I Will Always Love You is eligible for its 3x Platinum when it reaches 1.8 million units after 1994 (or in digital consumption really). I Wanna Dance With Somebody's 4x Platinum certification is basically all from the digital era. We are never going to get "accurate" certifications for most songs before 1994 again.

The Top 200 singles of all time
It was released before 1994 and the automatic certifications we get from the BPI now are only based on sales from the OCC's database going as far back as February 1994.

2024 BPI Certifications
From 1994 to 1996, after Millward Brown took over chart compilation duties from Gallup to compile the charts for what is now the OCC, the research company began to increase the amount of record shops that supplied sales information to them. The intention was to get enough shops that sold records to provide sales information that there was no need to estimate sales under the old method (chart panel sales x multiplier). By 1997 about 99% of all shops that sold singles were providing sales information to Millward Brown. However in 1994 it was only about 75% or so and during the period 1994 to 1997 it increased every few months. The outcome is that the OCC sales database (which is used for certification purposes) only contains the actual sales data it received from all these stores. Remember that in February 1994 this only accounted for about 75% of all stores, increasing over time to 99% in 1997. As a result the sales data held by the OCC underestimates what singles sold in the period 1994 to 1996.

For the umpteenth time, this doesn't include the original sales before 1994. It's original sales were 910,000 pushing the new total to 1.51M.

Wow at You & Me basically as big as the other Settle singles. The Flume & Rivo remixes helped hugely.

Billboard: Why is the UK struggling to break new pop acts?
https://www.billboard.com/pro/why-uk-strugg...k-new-pop-acts/ Fascinating article. My roundabout answer is that we are in an age where TikTok almost exclusively makes or breaks the hits. :P

How could the singles chart be improved?
Especially since so many songs get reset over & over again (*cough Cruel Summer cough*).

The UK Radio & TV Airplay Charts
The amount of classics on TV airplay due to the lack of TV channels is both sad and incredibly fascinating.

The OCC had it at 1.09M on 25 May 2018: https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/k...g-songs__22391/ The 1980s Gallup market figures for Especially For You were 843,353 units (though Alan Jones had it at 982,000 for the 2002 all time best selling singles list using an algorithm trying to equate late '80s figures to shipments from the early '80s) putting the overall total to 1,443,353 total chart units (seemingly more plausible than it being at 1,582,000 units).

Definitely, I don't think the rework is there on its' own. The original did 72K in 2006 so it's done 528K in the last 17.5 years.

With a closing of many TV channels, those spin numbers are lower than ever. More '80s to '00s tracks in the top 50 than usual.

Exactly! Including the '80s figures, it's at 1,106,141 units.
