  1. im NOT looking forweward to pauline quirk... imho she carries too much baggage , too familiar, (but im her generation roughly and know her from other tv appearances for 30 odd years).

maybe she will fit in... maybe its a bad move... time will tell.

  2. anybody with any knowlege of pop music cannot deny the songwriting skills of benny/bjorn, like them or not, they produced some classic pop music arguably second only to lennon/ mccartney.
  3. You're really lucky then.

In NW England (apart from 2 weeks in June) it's been cold wet and windy. In fact since the end of June we've not had 2 days together where it hasn't rained and it's never been above 19C - 66F

So much so that our lawn is like jungle with not being able to mow it.

Some days it's blown a gale

Temperatures in the low 60s - right now noon on Wednesday it's 15C 59F degrees and raining.

    So hardly a summer.

..... but ive not heard 1 prediction from the met office that youd get anything other then that...

  4. I love how people like you seem to think that immigrants are all lazy scroungers, yet at the same time mysteriously taking all the jobs. The reality is that most immigrants are in employment because they are willing to work below the minimum wage (a failure on the part of the employer). Very few claim benefits, so even if we enforced your draconian suggestion, it would save a minimal amount.

to be fair to the racist, he didnt actually say that immigrants come here to sponge off our welfare system, he just said that they wouldnt be entitled to benefits .... which is fair enough.

  6. Poor Ryan

    Holly continues to be crap.

... but if she was a polished performer it wouldnt be reprisentitive of real life. i quite like her flawed character, her imperfections, again, that makes emmerdale realistic.

  7. The Black Parade is four years old.. By retro do you mean an artist or band who don't record any more or very very old albums?

Nobody said anything when I mentioned Siobhan Donaghy's album and that's newer. People have listed Kate Bush's Aerial, Green Day, Basement Jaxx, Faithless etc.

Just wondering where to post these things.. I know there's a similar thread elsewhere

And what is the best rock album of all time then? :P

'retro' is for music prior to y2k... ten years old... however this isnt that strict as retro artists who release new material can be discussed in here so those artists you listed were already established by y2k and can be discussed. mcr are current in music terms so can be discussed in the indie/rock section. :)

  8. i like ryan lamb, i like his character, hes a likeable character... ok not a strong one , but in real life not everybody in your road IS a strong character.. this is what emmerdale does to great effect, uses 'ordinary' people to give reality to the soap, which makes it realistic.

i couldnt give a flying fcuk whether jark or anybody agrees or disagrees, my opinion of any tv charactor is determined by what i see on the screen, not what some spotty kid is telling me i should think.

  9. Well how? What is it about him that you think is great exactly? Fair enough if we disagree but try and explain your opinion so I can hope to understand.

He's just eye candy. I don't know if it's how his character is written because I think the actor was more likeable in Hollyoaks, from memory.

im not going to bicker with you.... ok, youre right, im wrong, hes crap. <_<

  10. The coalition was a smart move by Cameron, divide and rule.

By "partnering" with the Lib Dems and giving them a handful of token insignificant cabinet posts he has ensured that the Lib Dems are finished as a political force

AV will be comprehensively rejected by the British public at the referrendum I confidently predict and with the economy transformed since Cameron took over I think it is going to be more than a honeymoon period for him so he has popularity, the economy is strong and the Lib Dems were suckered into a so called partnership which will put them in the political wilderness for a generation, smart work Dave.

... you talk as if he had a choice.... there was no choice, either coalition or another election..

  11. Really can't stand his music

im not a fan either, but he had one hell of a voice and could sing (he even impressed elvis)... unlike todays balladeer counterparts like westlife...

  12. Sorry for the confusion as the sentence was supposed to feature three separate acts. Maybe I should have used Indecent Obsession instead of Check 1-2 as David Dickinson, the lead singer of this Australian Brother Beyond, ended up in Home & Away after his band failed to chart in the UK.

Yes you are correct, Craig McLachlan was indeed the lead singer of Check 1-2, though they were credited as Craig McLachlan & Check 1-2 by the time the band had their hits, as that billing built upon McLachlan’s success as Henry from Neighbours.

I now seem to think that the former name of Check 1-2 was ‘The Y Frontz’ and I think this band may have featured the guy who played Des Clarke on sax. I remember that ‘Des Clarke’ was part of a band during his years on Neighbours and I think that many other cast members were involved too. Unfortunately, I do not think he was able to capitalise on his success, even as a ‘Karl Kennedy’ type of ‘student turn’, because last time his name was mentioned in a conversation at work, someone said he is now homeless.

I do not know if you remember an Irish band called The Forget-Me-Nots? Well they were a band who released a jolly tune in 1991 called “Soap Singer’s Beat” [the chorus went “All those records you release, same to me to me”]. It was a pity that the song was not released a couple of years earlier when Kylie & Jason were having all their Number Ones, as I think it would have been a hit back then, especially as those were the days when the charts were also full of ‘Cut Magazine’ acts such as Texas, Deacon Blue and The Bible [if you want to imagine the sound of this record think about what would happen if Claire Grogan was the lead singer of The Frank & Walters].

By 1991, S/A/W had been superseded by the success of New Kids On The Block and even that group’s success was fading as bands like Take That came onto the scene. Even though it seemed that every soap star who featured in ‘Big Magazine’ [for example Abi Tucker and Laura Vasquez] were saying how they were about to release a record, most of these recordings would not trouble Take That in the charts as the majority of these releases were generally worse than any tunes that S/A/W may have recorded in the late stages of their career [including the ones written for Big Fun and Sonia]. Therefore if I had a choice between an album of S/A/W produced tracks and an album of singing soap stars I think I would select the former, as the S/A/W compilation would no doubt have Dead Or Alive’s “You Soin Me Round” as one of the tracks, whilst the latter would probably feature Adam Ricketts or Sid Owen.

Unless you or anybody else can come up with any other good examples, I think that the only decent soap star-turned pop singer is Kylie Minogue. Even though I was a big Neighbours fan when I was younger [even watching the first episode], these days I only think of her in terms of pop music and so when she does turn up acting in a film, I generally think of her in a way similar to that of Madonna.

    Loz

to me, kylie stopped being an 'ex neighbours star' and became a pop star around ten years ago when her resurgence came with 'spinning around'..

and id probabally agree that an album of s/a/w would be better then an album of ex soap stars... although i did quite like craig mc clachlans 'one reason why'... at the time anyway, im not fussed now.

nope, never heard of the forget me nots...

  13. You don't half wear rose-tinted glasses sometimes... Ryan has never given a 'great performance'. He's a TERRIBLE character with less than zero personality. There was a scene the other week where Faye said to Jai something about Ryan not having sent a postcard which was so obviously dropped in to remind us that he was on holiday because otherwise nobody would even have noticed!

thats a matter of opinion jark... you might not like/rate him... but i do. he fits into the soap perfectly.

  14. firstly, it wasnt the met office that predicted a bbq summer this year...it was the media. ignore anything the media says, its probabally bollox...even if they quote the met office, its usually taken out of context.

secondly, it depends upon your location... last year the far south east DID get a bbq summer, and a larger area of the southeast this year has enjoyed a much better, drier, warmer summer then the rest of the country.

i watch the forecasts daily, i have too as it directly effects my work/leisure time. this last week they have been spot on... getting rainfall predictions, temps, wind speed/direction correct.

i think its a popular misconception that 'they always get it wrong', in reality, the short term forecasts are very accurate, if you listen and understand what they are telling you. ignore any long term prediction form anyone.... no one can predict more then a week ahead with any accuracy or reason, its merely a guess, sometimes they will be right, other times they wont.

long range forecasting is coming on though, the global atmosphere is an ever changing entity, and is highly complicated. reading these 'teleconnections' is the key to getting the gist of the likely synoptic pattern right. there are one or two on netweather who are pretty good at interpreting the teleconnections out to a few weeks ahead. member 'glacier point' predicted that the azores high will remain out to our west and a trough would develop over northern europe.... unfortunately he has been proven right, which is why we have had a much cooler cloudier spell for the last month or so.

unfortunately theres no sign of the current pattern breaking.. the winds are most likely to remain the the northwestern quadrant, even though there might be a pressure rise later this week with some nicer weather... this isnt currently expected to last.

  15. super meeting in stockholm last night, tyson gaye beating usain bolt! ... michael rimmer had an astounding run too nearly beating the russian european champ (dunno how to spell his name! lol) more importantly these two europeans beat some world class africans!!

roll on crystal palace next week!

  16. dont know about in america, but the monkees not being a real pop group was big news here for a short while... even as a ten year old i thought it was a bad thing..

as for judge dread.... vile... just part of that awful 70's sexist bollox that gave us 'emmanuelle' and the 'confessions of' soft porn seriese of films. even as a teenage schoolboy i never liked judge dreads awful material.

'louie louie' was rather rude apparently, but i never knew the track until later as it passed me by as a young kid in the 60's ... even though i know from first hand most other chart tracks from the era.

  17. "I'm not a murderer, I don't even kill spiders!"

    hahaha!

yep, just another example of the way emmerdale slips in abit of humour in a dramatic scene...

great performances again from the alpha males, ryan, caine, nathan, aaron.... brilliant characters.
