Emmerdale
oh he will... gradually... and thats what makes him such a good character. dunno where he will go from there though once hes 'outed'. unlike the brilliant j r ewing in 'dallas' i fear nathans a one trick pony that only has one dimension. when thats spent its either a 'bobby ewing coming out the shower' (oh go look it up, biggest daft storyline ever in which a central character was re-admitted to a soap after previously being killed!)... or a termination of that character.

ban smoking in cars!
how many times.... has ANYONE here actually known somebody who stopped going to the pub BECAUSE of the smoking ban?...cos i bloody well dont and i know alot of people. fact... the decline in the pub trade is not down to the smoking ban and the smoking ban alone... that might well be a contributory factor if anybody is damned mardy enough... anybody that idiotic couldnt have thought much of the pub in the first place. the legislation thatcher passed in the 80's lead to the creation of the large chains like weatherspoons etc you see today. the very same parellel can be found in post war agriculture, with big businesses buying up small family farms. so.. - theres a change in pub ownership plus the creation of 'family' pub - thers a change in drinking habits, we drink more wine now (at home with a meal) and less beer - there are fewer people smoking now - price per unit in supermarkets has never been so cheap - prices at the bar have never been so high (due to taxes and not profit) - theres a change in how we spend our liesure time with multi chanel tv and games consoles. - theres been a recession on - the decline was going on long before the ban, id suggest the recession was mainly to blame for the more rapid decline in recent years, because all the people i know in the pubs i go in do not cite the ban per se as the reason. so only a complete idiot would ignore these facts and blame ONLY the smoking ban, like scott has done! :P

ban smoking in cars!
look what i found.... "The reasons for the rapid closure rate have their roots back in the 1980s, when Margaret Thatcher abolished tied houses, where a landlord was obliged to buy beer from only one brewery, in the name of free trade. One consequence was the creation of a new monopoly now known as the 'pubco' model, where large, often public companies own huge chains of pubs and exert pressure on landlords to carry certain brands and set prices." guardian blog. see its all THATCHERS fault!

ban smoking in cars!
im not replying to this scott cos ALL the points have already been covered... and im bored of arguing the toss... as is everyone else, thats why no one posts on this thread. but i find your last para contradictory... its ok for smokers to inflict their filth on others, but its not ok for non smokers to object?.. get this... SMOKERS ARE IN THE MINORITY.

ban smoking in cars!
i agree that idle buggers use cars too much, and not public transport or ... shock ... walk! i dont agree that there is a choice... it only takes 1 smoker to pollute the atmosphere. i dont agree that vehicle emissions are anywhere near as bad as smoke in an enclosed room avoid smokey clubs/bars/pubs?... but what if theres an event on at that pub? miss it or get polluted on... nah... 'adult environment?... sorry but the adults i mix with dont smoke! since when has smoking been a pre-requisite for adulthood? what happend to the choice not to get someone elses waste product invading your body? this is daft and its going around in circles.... there is no good reason at all why a non smoker should put up with someone elses smoke, not 1.

Carpenters
always rated karens voice as one of the best ever... but often their material was awful!. liked '(they long to be) close to you', 'yesterday once more' and a couple of others.

No Hit Wonders
on the pop front theres spanky and our gang, in 66-68 they had several 'airplay hits' which never transfered to the charts.

its more to do with the fact that when i was young, there were no 'gay bars' as such.. ive never been big on boozy nights out (due to the smoke! :P ) or clubs cos when i was young clubs were either disco or rock. neither being my first choice in music (although i did go to rock venues). i did go to gay freindly pubs/bars but that was before they were apparently what they are like now. im not promiscuous, so 'pulling' has never been my aim, sex being second to a relationship.

Doctor Who - Series 5
loved it! as you know ive been very critical of this seriese and of matt smith, but im getting used to him now. thought this two parter was vintage dr who...only done better...in as much that the sets (underworld city) was OUTSTANDING and not wobbly flimsey cardboard things. ok they dont get off earth (my main bug bare with dr who) but it may as well been off earth, apart from the fact that theyd roast in molten larva and air pressure would be immense! lol, it was superb. 9/10.

ESC 2010 // The Final // Live 8pm [BST]
a good result i think, we cheered when belarus got points to leave us in last place. i am a patriot but ffs... that entry was the worst ever. i liked greece, turkey, serbia, iceland and germany too... i like songs with a folky feel to them, sounds that are a mixture of pop and the countries own sounds...hence liking greece and serbia.

retro chart, late may 1968!
.... and what reason would that be?... they are readily identified by most in the pop music quizes i attend so infering they are 'second rate therefore forgettable' is nonsense. plus there are many tracks that werent big hits that are remembered from that period.

ban smoking in cars!
i could say the same to you m8... ive already said that landlords given the choice would probably allow smoking regardless of how many customers actually smoke! the pubs i go too for my quizes only have a few people 'go outside for a fag break' , the vast majority stop in. so thered be no choice, thered be no smoke free pubs. i think smokers can smoke wtf they want as long as it doesnt impinge on others who dont like smoke... i like music, loud, have i or anyone the right to play my music in my house as loud as i want to at any time regardless of what my neighbours think?... no. i didnt go to smokey pubs, and i dont agree that having a bar full of rancid smoke is necerssary to 'have a good time'... as for your daft comparison to vehicle emissions...that would hold if you had them in a confined space... they arnt and im not against outdoor smoking. i have NEVER been adversely affected by traffic fumes... but then again i dont frequent a crowed city... travel is part of life, we HAVE to travel, we dont have to smoke...it adds nothing to the human body except a coctail of concentrated toxins.

wotchyou talkin 'bout? rip gary coleman
80's sitcom 'different strokes' star dies http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/showbiz/news/a...es-aged-42.html known for his catchphrase 'what you talking about willis'... another death from this rather tragedy ridden sitcom. 'willis' has been in deep trouble with drugs and the girl from the seriese died years ago after a very unhappy life.

have i missed something here? russ was saying the gay scene IS that shallow, you agree but then contradict that bit with the emboldend bit probably me misunderstanding summut.
-
Emmerdale
course i havnt m8, im straight! are you really telling me that all gay people are really that shallow? forgive me if im wrong here but i was under the impression that theres as much variety of personality amongst gay people as there are in straight life.. we aint all neaderthals! shhhh dont diss 'the enders'... it aint allowed on here, its perfect in every way you know!

ban smoking in cars!
... the pubs i frequent have NOT suffered BECAUSE of the smoking ban alone. maybe in some areas they have, i cannot speak for all pubs countrywide! i know people in the trade, clare WORKS in the trade, the assertion that the ban is the only factor in pubs closing is simply NOT TRUE. ive already agreed that it is a factor. but the main reason is simply a change in the way we enjoy our liesure time. the decline in pubs was going on long before the ban, people just dont go out to pubs now regardless of the ban. our drinking habits are changing with far more wine being drunk now, mainly with meals at home, thats another contributory factor. plus IN REAL TERMS the price per unit of alcohol is much cheaper from a supermarket whilst the increase prices at the pump is at a record high... THATS more likely to be the main reason pubs are closing... like i said before, i know of NO-ONE out of the large ammount of people i know, ordinary pub going blokes, who have stopped going just because they cant smoke! are smokers really that mardy? pro-choice? what about non smokers choice to have the right to go to a 'real' pub without getting that filthy smoke affecting your health? you pro's have never yet answered the question 'why should we put up with it'? are you really suggesting that non smokers dont have the right to go in a smoke free pub?

Pete Waterman out in force yet again...
its not only the song contest that twats arrogant about...its his whole attitude to music which he sees as a money making vehicle and not the art form it is.

ban smoking in cars!
chose to go or chose to put up with the smoke?... but clubs are larger venues and often have some sort of ventilation... i dunno... ive not been effected adversely in a club...but its years now since ive been. i HAVE been adversely effected in pubs, small, crowded rooms, ive been to union meetings in such places under obligation... smoke got in my throat, eyes, sinuses and my clothes stank. i have left such places feeling ill, theres no choice there! i take the point that 'one size doesnt fit all', and differing venues might have a case. but if ordinary pubs were to be given the choice, theyd all go back to smoking, more then anything to save them money on the outdoor facitilies they are currently obliged to provide. pubs are not or shouldnt be the sole domaine of smokers, i dont agree with 'like it or lump it', non smokers should have the right not to be infected with what is an offensive product that damages their health if they chose to go out. russ proves nothing with 'every post he makes'. he is a die hard smoker and refuses to accept how obnoxious smoke is to non smokers. perhaps because he knows its indefensible. the smoking ban ISNT the main cause of pubs going under... we have been over this ground mny times before... and i too LISTEN to what the people in the trade are telling me... change in social attitudes that started long before the ban.... cheaper then ever booze from supermarkets, and the rise of 'family' pubs (abit like big agri-businesses bought out family farms creating huge estates in post war farming) have shifted the emphisis away from 'blokes' pubs. ironically its these 'blokes' pubs that hold rather 'traditional' values towards foreigners, women and oh yes.... gays! nice work russ! lets reverse the smoking ban so 'blokes' can be 'blokes' again!

are gay relationships alwaysdown to looks? aaron said that he likes jackson because he understands him, how refreshing to infer the attraction is on a celebral level instead of carnal, that gets a big from me!!! .. i like the fact that jackson isnt a pin up, hes an ordinary guy, that to me makes it more real and doesnt pander to the stereotype. again emmerdale excelling in this storyline :)
