i moved alot in christian circles in the late 70's, had a dabble myself, my g/f who became my fiancee and ultimately my wife had 2 christian brothers. our friends were largely of christian background........ they LOVED kenny everett ... hence my earlier referance. milligan has been discussed previously but i have no problem with talking about the bloke i personally regard as one of our national treasures and the godfather of modern comedy. as for the embarrassing 'curry and chips'...well! he wasnt averse to using asians as the butt of his humour  and imho one of the funniest sketches ever was in 'q6' the pakistani dalek sketch! yep certainly more akin to dick emery to milligan, spot on norma!
  3. my thoughts exactly, but as it doesnt appear to be posted all over the place (as is usual for spam) ill not delete it. thanks for moving it chris.

i just was wondering where these concepts actually came from... certainly long before any orthodox religion was created there was widespread belief in 'something else, better after your death'... all over the world many ancient civilisations had such beliefs and even the celts here were not affraid of death (the roman historian tacitus remarked on their bravery in the face of death ). obviously more recent religions have had their say, their interpretation on it... and of course theres not 1 shred of scientific evidence that theres anything after this life, and no sign of heaven in the known universe. i read in a newspaper over the weekend of a german toddler (3) who had fallen into a frozen pond and dispite attempts to resussitate him, died. but, after 17 minutes of being 'dead' his heart started beating on it own, the child made a full recovery. he told his parents that he saw a bright light and his nan (i think it was) was there, she said "what are you doing here, its not your turn yet, you must go back to mummy and daddy" .... obviously he did. now what IF this was absolute truth? if this did occur like reported it has ramifications not only through the religious world (which religion is right?) but the scientific world as so far science cannot define this experience. however scientists reckon that reports of 'bright lights' and a feeling of euphoria could be explained by oxygen starvation to a dying brain.
  5. ... and tbh i reckon its worse being abused by a churchman then an ordinary perv... you expect evil off evil but evil from gods m8?....
  6. the only way you can protect your lifestyle is NOT to vote tory ....
  7. this should be in 'retro'...
  8. imho the rise in support for the lib dems will only rob the tories of votes. the tv debate has boosted the lib dems and show boy cameron up for the uncious weasel he is. few people believe the boy wonder, i still dont think theyll win.

not a chance... everett was for kids and adults with no sophistication, totally unlike the young ones , comic strip, et al... you needed a brain to understand the referances with alternative comedy, everett was in the same vein as benny bloody hill... in yer face smut for the brain dead (as in you didnt need to think to understand it, it was what it was) dunno why you dont get the milligan comparison, they both created shows comprising of sketches, one did it brilliantly, the other was comedy for christians...
  10. well maybe it was a loose ban that they never actually implemented with any rigour, i had no idea that it was banned at the time as if it was i/we would simply not know it as we were chart watchers as opposed to album buyers. we listened to radio 1 daytime, we taped oldies and liked new tracks from spring 71 (when we pooled resources to buy a tape recorder) until spring 72 (when i started buying singles cos i had money). we taped 'admiral halsey' 4 times between us alongside tracks from summer 71 until early 72, so the evidence is there, dispite what any book might tell you.

gotta fully agree with you account there scott, DEFINATELY a peter davidson syndrome. my only concern over next weeks ep is that its basically repeating an old enemy again... yes they were good, but we have seen them...
  12. right, im at me mums, me n me sis have raided the attic and found our referances to 'admiral halsey' amongst our tapes. we taped it (either full or in part) 4 times in the early 70's, alongside 9 by 9 , aint no mountain high enough, love is life,(ok both from 70) i dont blame you at all, and say you dont mind.... the interesting thing is that colin blunstone 'say you dont mind' was 1972, therefore 'admiral halsey' was definately played then as its on the tape alongside it, and 'i dont blame you at all' hit the charts in june 71, we only taped off radio 1 and often fought for the ownership of the tape! lol both of us made taped collections of oldies and current tracks we liked. edit my sister has just gone through a tape with the chart run down on it, her tape of admiral halsey was taped after this run down.... number one was t rex 'telegram sam' #1 in january 1972.... so it appears that admiral halsey wasnt banned. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_banned_by_the_BBC
  13. surely the greatest question of them all is, 'what is my life all about? why am i hear?' ... and surely to answer that question you have to deal with impiracle facts that can be cross checked, measured, quantified, etc. so i personally take great offence at being told that religious people have the right to believe what they want to believe in is the truth. whilst yes anyone can believe what they want to, as long as they are open to the fact that it might not be 'the truth', and religions that promote their doctrine as 'the truth' based on nothing but 'belief' is utterly bonkers. the universe doesnt run on belief, it runs/exists on the laws of nature, constants that can be discovered, measured, and quantified.
  14. cos its 'gods reprisentitive on earth' <_< ill move this from retro to perspectives as its gone more ploitical now.

i reckon matt smith was a poor choice for the dr, he is too much similar to tennant, imho they should have picked a completely different (older) actor to avoid the comparison.
  16. it was played frquently, i know it (as a 14 year old) as much as 'chirpy chirpy cheap cheap' 'im gonna run away from you' , 'rose garden', at the time i didnt realise it wasnt a single. but the radio 1 roadshow at lunchtime did play several odd tracks... 'nine by nine' by the graham dumas festival band, 'damn fool' by exuma as well... these too failed to chart. perhaps i heard it before the ban, but heard it often enough to know it (i only listend to radio 1, and didnt buy or even hear any paul mccartney album) and tape it. it was played alot after 'another day'.

.... actually i knew that, dunno why i posted that earlier, i knew i should have logged on last night cos there were several points i wanted to make but have forgotten them. but that makes no sense, surely if the opportunity came along to kill the only being in the entire universe that could and has stopped them in the past and is their arch enemy, why not take it? 2 seconds and its done! hardly a delay towards restoring the empire is it!

poorest episode on the new era...... it was a non story that dragged out to 45 minutes...it could have been concluded in 25. didnt like smith trying to do a tennant in his loud gasps and exclaimations. i see no reason why the daleks didnt exterminate the dr when he was winding them up and telling them to kill him. in fact, as their deadliest enemy they had loads of chances to kill the dr... and he didnt seem to register that... barmy. as for the new daleks.... yawn.... i guess when the 13th dr has his final episode, he will eventually kill the daleks along with himself.

    exactly....
  24. i dont know what you mean......
  25. nope craig, thats wishful thinking.... the polls are traditionally against the incumbent party but come the election people are still reluctant to change and the governing party always get more votes then the polls suggest. (97 being the exception) i dont think the tories will win with a comfortable working majority, in fact i wouldnt be suprised if labour still wins.
