it was a staple tv kids show from 65 until the mid 70's, i saw it first time around and most times since! i even have it on tape! (released about ten years ago)
i loved the incidental music, somehow it was so evocative...
heres the suite (not original) and half the first episode!

Jupe, if you guys feel like striking, go ahead, you'll certainly have my support....
......... and what good will that do?... oh yeah, push up inflation even more so everyone else will join in and want more.. m8, you should have been around in the mid 70's, then you wouldnt be so keen to fuel inflation.

I'd better work harder then. Maybe I should do nights? OK, the Office is closed but still.... Yes, I get paid holidays. I get paid sick leave too. Or I would if I'd had any days off sick in the past 4 years. I work on average 44 hours a week (excluding lunch breaks). Plus I work from home most nights and some weekends (unpaid). I have a Uni Degree and 22 years experience. I earn £23,000. That is the maximum pay scale for my grade. I've had below inflation pay rises for more years than I can remember. I'm in charge of 15 people.
When I started in the Civil Service all those years ago my wage was on a par with similarly qualified people in the private sector and indeed was higher than same grade Local Authority staff. Over the past few years my wage has lagged so far behind it's unbelievable. And this year to be 'offered' a 0% wage increase when the cost of living is rocketing is the final insult.
Do I feel like I've never had it so good? Do I f*ck. I've never been so angry in my whole working life. I'm just holding out for some kind of redundancy package and then I'm out of that hell-hole. I'll get a job as a Tanker Driver instead. ;)
Still, on the plus side I earn more than about 98% of the 500 odd people in my Office. Most of those poor sods are on about £15,000 or less. <_<
you work less then clare (who has 2 jobs) and get paid twice as much...
why did you let your wage lag behind?
ok, not EVERYBODY in employment has 'never had it so good' but ffs the very fact that the standard if living we all enjoy is at an all time high proves by default that we are well off, as a whole.
if the pay is so poor.... why do it?... do something else, this is what i dont get... people start a job knowing full well what the pay and conditions are, then moan about it!

Lol. I wanted him to see if he could figure it out
Oh the memories  it's like TOTP all over again without the 2 evil little witches! (If you know who I mean)

you were brilliant on the last night of the totp boards, the last message ever was yours getting back at misty!
as for pete.... i dont expect we will see him here again for another 2 years!

Erm, doesn't Eavis have a FOLK TENT at every Glastonbury, since, like, EVER.....??? I'm using him as an example of someone who promotes this kind of music through his festival and as someone who has an intimate knowledge of country life and "merrye olde englande"....
Now you really are being a snob mate.... You honestly think this guy wouldn't know about English Folk music...? Just cos the media only sees Glastonbury in terms of what goes on on the two main stages DOES NOT MEAN that there aint a hell of a lot of other stuff going on, INCLUDING Folk Music, traditional and modern..... But of course, you've probably never even been to a Glasto in your life..... -_-
what is it with people on here crediting others with things they DID NOT SAY nor imply.... <_<
ok... no i have never been to glasto, no i do not know how much about folk music eavis might or might not know. SO FCUKING WHAT?
that doesnt make my point about traditional folk any the less valied! im sick and tired of people on here TELLING me what i SHOULD and SHOULDNT like...
ethnic instruments IMHO have NO place in traditional folk.... that is MY opinion on it , as they do not 'fit', they are IMHO out of character, and DO NOT conjour up mental images or empathies with what the message/story of the song is about. that is the basic requirement needed by me as to wether or not i like ANY track, folk, classical, world, rock, uk garage, trance, mod, pop... anything.

I wouldn't say that Stairway to Heaven was my fave Zep song (that would probably be something like "Kashmir", "When The Levee Breaks" or "In My Time Of Dying"), but I wouldn't say it was pretentious or OTT... It is a bloody good song... If Rolf had destroyed "Bohemian ©Rhapsody", then he would've gotten my entire support, that really IS a pretentious, awful piece of sh!t... He picked the wrong "classic" to take the p*** out of IMO...
Mind you Bad News (the fake metal band created by The Comic Strip team) did a great p***-take of "BoRap" back in the late-80s....
actually i think rolf DID cover bo-rap lol
but thats WHY rolfs stairway is so funny, because it shouldnt be! its the very fact that zeps stairway is such a good... a masterpiece, of music that makes it prime for riddicule and NOTHING should be above humour.

Perhaps we should ask Michael Eavis what HE thinks of it then...? After all, he probably IS the best known gentleman farmer in the world and probs has a better knowledge of the country and folk music than you do mate..... He's probably had every single type of act under the sun performing as Glasto, and I bet he totally embraces precisely this kind of musical experimentation, he's probably had acts performing at Glasto doing this sort of thing....
Also John Peel was a very well known "countryphile" always talking on his shows about "Peel Acres".. I think he would have embraced this sort of thing as well..... So I really, really dont think that this is a case of "Bumpkins Vs Townies" mate.....
whats michael evis got to do with TRADITIONAL folk music?
nothing, nothing at all....

You're as big an idiot as Craig with that statement..... ESPECIALLY seeing as how Gordon fukkin; Broon took away the 10p rate of tax for the poorest workers......
.... bareing in mind it was brown who implemented it in the first place,, but never mind, the standard of living is still the highest its ever been across the board. so yes, things are getting tight, prices are going up, so we need to tighten our belts and ride it, fueling inflation would be stupid.
-
Fine, fair enough... So, that rule should apply DOUBLY to the fukkin bosses then, and MPs and these b'astard fat cats who award themselves huge bonuses... Workers should just "take in on the chin" while these greedy c;unts cream off the top???? As my Geordie mate would say.... Awa' and sh!te man.....
totally agreed.... one rule for all...

Britain considered Zimbabwe enough of a "problem" to occupy it for nearly 100 years up until the 1980s... Mugabe is a tyrant and a murderer but can Britain really disavow all blame for the situation?
id argue that rhodesia...sorry... zimbabwe, would have been better off if ian smith had stayed in power, the country would be much more prosperous and tens of thousands would still be alive let alone nearly everyone would be enjoying a better standard of living....

Well, I dont believe a Sitar in place of a guitar is really a big deal either, and it frankly has a beautiful sound as well when played properly... Especially when you consider they are both STRING INSTRUMENTS played more or less in the same manner, by plucking or picking.... An electric guitar can sound radically different to an acoustic, when you start using effects pedals, distortion and such.... And you're still not acknowledging the fact that both The Pogues and Steve Vai did radically different interpretations of older music forms....
I just dont agree that it's "sacriligeous", I dont agree that it's re-writing history either.... It's just a slightly different delivery system, the tunes are essentially the same.... And to imply that it somehow shouldn't be done is just pure snobbery and elitism in my book.....
m8... im a big fan of steelyeye span, fairport convention, and most of there offspins , the pogues are following in their wake, so im not ignoring it at all. indeed i embraced electrification of folk.
you are ignoring the fact though that the sound of a sitar (and i fully agree it does sound beautiful) just doesnt 'fit' with the sounds from 'merrye olde englande', it isnt snobbery or elitist, i never claimed my way was 'superior'. its CONTEXT, the sitar in particular is an indian instrument and when you hear one it doesnt conjur up mental images of 'candleford'... so imho its just out of place.
