oh i like pet clarke, although her best tracks never seemed to chart very highly.. if at all... 'colour my world' for eg, how that missed the upper reaches of the charts is beyond me. its one of those uptempo uplifting 'happy' tracks that belongs on a sunny day! (ill look it up on youtube later).

yeah i remember all on that list...
it was an awfully bland time for pop and in general things were pretty dire.
sailor 'glass of champagne' was good, and has been given a new lease of life.... scooter have pinched it and changed the lyrics for their #1 album 'jumping all over the world' <_<
mud of course were another shoddywaddy, rock n roll revival act which though were quite good. i liked early mud, hypnosis for eg and 'tiger feet' was a classic pop song.
cockney rebel of course were outstanding, and i liked ronnie lane and slim chance 'the poacher' (74).

i think that most women 'celebs' promote themselves too much, like rfc says ... tpt, jodie marsh, jordan... very big on self promotion but very little on talent. we just dont respect them, they come across as shallow, vacuous, thick... i dont think talentless men push themselves as mush.... after all, ever heard of an 'it man'?...
so i dont think we hate talentless women more, its just that theres more of them in the spotlight to hate!

Did you know Rod Stewart's first hit Maggie May was originally the B-Side
The A-side was Reason To Believe which imo is miles better.
Reason To Believe reached #19 when it was flipped and Maggie May became the A-side
indeed i love 'reason to believe', although maggie may was a good pop song.
love the line "someone like you, makes it hard to live without, somebody else" .... its a superb love song.

From a music snob point of view they were awful.
But they were perfectly entertaining at the time for Variety TV shows pre the music new wave and alternative comedy eras. And you have to be a very mean person to say that their version of Under The Moon Of Love is rubbish, when it is a rather good fun record.
not sure that calling rubbish, rubbish, makes you a musical snob! but admittedly they did appeal to some people and were party pop enough for those seeking a three minute no-brainer.. and we all need that.

for me the beegees were a group of 2 (or more) identities.
i rated highly their 60's material, songs like 'too love somebody' are classic all time great love songs, brilliant lyrics.
conversely i couldnt abide their 'night fever' phase, they became 'medalion men' with open necked shirts, 'girls' hair, awful falsetto vocals....
but i cannot deny their appeal or success.... fair play..

Yellow dog - just one more night silly pop
Buzzcocks - What do i get early buzzcocks often overlooked in favcour of the more popular 'ever fallen in love....'
Althia and Donna - Uptown top ranking for variety, a bit of jamaican reggae, one of my favs
X Ray Spex - the day the world turned dayglo true punk, poly styrene with her unique singing style.
Siouxsie and the Banshees - Hong kong garden distinctive, inovative, the godmother of 'goth' which she created by 'accident'...

Nobody in this day and age deserves to live in "scummy" conditions.... It's like we never left the bloody Dickensian era......
people live in those conditions through choice.... theres no excuse in this day and age for living in a slum. maybe these people should prioritise their spending on cleaning equipment instead of fags, lager and weed.

just wondering..... can you still hear good old fashioned trance in ibiza? or are the clubs pooring out these modern dance covers, or as i heard once 'indie'?
-
have they done any original tracks? or are they all re-vamps/covers/samples of 70's tracks?
not being a scooter fan but noticing this common theme running through most of their singles. the latest 'jumping all over the world' is a re-working of sailors 1976 hit 'glass of champagne'.
