a great little comedy this... although id like to see it on later (so the gags could be ruder). that bloke bending over in his swimming cozzy was :puke2: but hilarious!

i think the writers of 'shameless' ought to employ the script writers as 1 30 minute episode of 'benidorm' was funnier that the whole of 'shameless' this year!

  2. that 'blackout' plot was utterly ridiculous...

AS IF that nutter could have started up the digger and severed an exposed electricity cable that happens to be the one for the square, without injuring himself (or threat of)...

    that was absolute rubbish.

then to top it all that girl was using a laptop?... even if it had its own power pack how could they use the internet when a wireless system does need power?

    utter bollox....

  3. Well in that case I took your comments about Heather seriously then - and I do think people here are acting WAY over the top about her. Were you all a party to what went on behind closed doors? Do you know what went on? Someone here 'laughingly' suggested that McCartney is rich enough to 'make her disappear' ... one could argue that he is wealth enough and with enough connections to have a judge make a totally one-sided appraisal of the situation.

And as far as despising the, quite frankly, harmless Heather Mills-McCartney as much as Thatcher ... then you seriously need to look at your priorities. I would say you are your own example of embracing the celebrity culture.

Shouldn't this be kept firmly in the Beatles thread anyway .... as you're all speaking from a Beatles perspective!

    Norma

you seem to be swimming against the tide here and are clearly not understanding what was written and why.

no i/we were not party to whant went on behind closed doors... however this subject has been pretty thoughroughly dealt with.

of course it shouldnt be 'firmly in the beatles thread'... (i presume you mean forum). its a perfectly pertainant subject for discussion in here.

  4. While it is not aimed at anyone here there is something about the mentality of Brits that I can't get my head around

People that have set up businesses and have made a massive success of their lives through taking risks are sneered at and called "greedy" "fat cats" and so on,

theres a big difference though between 'joe bloggs' who takes a risk to set up a 'small business' and the head of a multi national company. all to often the people at the top of big business are corrupt. they get away with murder all because of the class system, (dont forget alot of these guys were born into wealth...they didnt earn it). if these people are so well off then they wont miss paying more... like i said, a grand to me is alot of money, a grand to a millionairre is nothing, he will effectively paying nothing as he wont miss it. dont forget that per head more money is spent on rich areas then on poor areas per head... so why shouldnt they pay more?

  5. I was thinking about something like this for a while, but wasn't sure how to start a thread. Will give it some thought.

yeah there doesnt seem to be an obvious solution, plus we dont get the traffic through here.. im hoping this will generate more interest in retro.

  6. Maybe easier to just have a section where we can all reminisce about certain long-gone TV classics? One each at a time? Lumping numerous ones into one post a la the album ones may be pretty difficult?

doesnt seem to work though... on an individual basis.

hence a 'themed' thread.... might get more discussion if we open a thread on a theme, at least we could compare like for like.

  7. Love it *wub*

There's something completely delighful about it, even though generally the storyline lacks a little and the lion is insanely annoying!

    correct! my sentiments.

was this moved here? i seem to have overlooked it...lol..

answer...no. we have mentioned classical composers and even henry the 8th!

  8. I do think there should be a flat rate of tax for everyone, it is for me the best system for a number of reasons

    1) Easier administration so that it keeps Whitehall costs down, there are so many different tax brackets and tax codes and tax allowances, a simple one off right across the board tax rate of say for arguments sake 25% would save millions in Whitehall

    2) A flat rate of tax would help retain high earning Brits who are thinking of plying their trade abroad and also help encourage overseas professionals to come here and trade

    3) It would mean less penalising of hard work and success, where is the incentive to set up a business or go to medical school for 7 years only to find the government taking 40% of the money + NI ?

    4) More disposable income higher up the food chain will filter down right across the board and lead to more jobs in the retail, automotive and leisure sector

    5) A low tax rate for the rich would mean less incentive to defraud the inland revenue

Originally I would like to have seen income tax scrapped altogether and replaced by a much higher rate of VAT to make up for the lack of income tax but that is not practical

thats totally unfair... a grand a year is alot of money for a person on a low wage, for a rich person its pocket money.

are you suggesting that a tradesperson, a factory worker, a nurse, a caretaker etc doesnt work hard? earning money and working hard dont always equate. not everybody in society can have a 'top job' and somebody has to do the menial tasks. that doesnt make them a lesser person.

oh alright then, lets lower the tax rates so the rich dont defraud the system! lol.. thats stupid.

for this to work and the government not be out of pocket, tax rates at the lower end would be raised as the higher rates are reduced... this is stupid. rates should be set with an element of ability to pay, after all, rich areas have far more facilities and money spent on them then poor areas per head...

  9. the point is though that the whole basis of western christianity is in fact... fiction. therefore the whole christian church for the last 2000 years is based on a lie... its tainted, its insecure, its flawed. you cannot build a religion that claims to be 'the truth' on those grounds, it has no more credence then any crackpot guru like david ike!
  10. Back in those day's there wasn't as many channels and stuff

These day's yo catch up on your fav programes when you want on i player,tv on demand, reapts on sky channels

11million is brilliant for a programe these day's with so many other tv channels around the internext,dvd/vcr recorders and such people are watching their fav programes when they want.

You will hardly see a programe top 10m much these day's

corrie/eastenders are the only soaps that can do it

..... but its not a direct comparisson as the population is much higher now plus theres many more tv's in the home with most kids having their own. back in the 80's they HAD to watch what mum n dad said, now you have the choice.

the problem with EE is that they are stooping to stupid storylines to make up for lack of good character actors. a good character actor would be watchable if he/she was reading out a nursery rhyme. EE used to have these strong characters, but now they have parodies of what they were.

interesting tv doc on over easter.... ok, i didnt see all of the programme which was aired on channel 4 and presented by a christian.

he investigated the diciples and it threw up some rather interesting facts.

how the bible was manipulated by paul (who actually never MET jc) to create something that suited him

how paul usurped jesus's brother simon (who took over the new sect upon jesus's death)

how saint thomas founded a christian group in india (which flourished direct from its origin until the roman catholics destroyed it in the 16th centuary)

but more importantly, how saint peter is NOT recorded as ever going to rome (and thus founding the roman catholic church), in fact he appears to have been burried in jerusalem as a grave with his real name on has been discovered.

now this is highly important for western christianity. western christianity (roman catholisism or c of e) is founded on the belief that after christs death saint peter went to rome, the then centre of the civilised world, and founded the roman catholic church, even appointing 'gods reprisentitive on earth' ...the first pope. this was then the power base for christianity, spreading 'the word' throughout the known world.

now call me a cynical old bugger.... but this SMACKS of propaganda! rome manipulating the masses through a new religion that they based on..... a story. it appears that the roman politicians many years after the events, tried to use religion in an attempt to sure up their then flagging empire. they saw an opportunity to hang on to power by usurping a new movement. they took over christianity, re-branded it as their own.

even worse... in the 16th centuary they discovered saint thomases sect, which if true, was a direct link to j c. they were pure, carrying on the tradition for 1500 years brought to them by saint thomas direct from christ. the roman catholics destroyed it, all the old texts, artefacts, culture. if this is true (and there IS plenty of evidence for it) then the roman catholics wiped out true christianity.

.... and nowdays we are being sold christianity, thats western christianity, as 'THE TRUTH'. it clearly is NOT. its propaganda with its roots in ancient rome, designed to grab power and rule the masses in an era when the roman empire was crumbling. the bible is a collection of works thats heavily manipulated by people with a vested interest.

IF there really was a jesus christ, who was the son of god, then his real message has long since been lost, and god almighty FAILED to get his message across.......

  12. Spot on mate... Surely that's the very definition of "Defamation of Character"..... Dont get me wrong, I dont want the kid to suffer in any way.... Heather fukkin' Mills on the other hand..... <_< I reckon there should be some legal way in which she cant get her hands on any of the money herself, but it should all be 100% for Beatrice....

The best thing that could happen is that when Beatrice grows up and realises what really happened, and what a lying, evil whore Heather is, she turns on her "mother" and goes off to be with her dad.... Poetic justice.....

trouble is.... her dads likely to be pushing up daisies and therefore unable to defend himself to her, all she will have for years after pauls death is her mothers view. i sense in 30 years a book emerging painting paul out to be anything other then what we KNOW he is. time distorts the truth.
