ok, maybe i was being abit lazy here and worded the thread poorly, my intention is to highlight the discrepancy in theology between people who hold a religious view but chose which bits to believe.

thats better... ill still go to france though as will hundereds of other wine drinkers. it comes to something when i can daytrip from derby, shop in calais and return home in under 12 hours with a stash of decent wines at between £2-£5 a bottle. it works out at half price.

this is what im getting at, the catholic church does not accept gay people as 'normal' do they? so your aunt isnt being true to her faith (dispite her being in the 'right'). imho this makes a mockery of religion, surely you either follow what your god instructs you to do or you dont, cherry picking and interpreting to suit the bits you want makes a doctrine useless.

i wonder to what extent is religion behind homophobia? even non religious types turn to it in order to claim the moral high ground... i cannot think of 1 orthadox religion that accepts it... christian, catholic, mormon, jovos, muslim, etc etc etc... so surely if people are true to their faiths, arnt they homophobic by default? i wonder just how many bj members have a faith but darent declare it for this reason.... are YOU a default homophobe?

on tv yesterday morn there was this debate i caught abit of, regarding the holocaust and nazi hunters. basically some elderly jews still want to hunt down people involved with the death camps and put them on trial... one such suspect had to be taken into court on a stretcher he was so frail. i think the main culprits, the ones who ordered the extermination of jews, gays, gypsies are already in jail or dead. an elderly embittered jew though still wants to put on trial the people who carried out the orders, the ordinary soldier. this raises a difficult question... they were 'only following orders'...now whilst that sounds like a lame excuse, the truth is that if they didnt follow orders they too would be executed. what would YOU do? is it right that after nearly 70 years some jews are still embittered or should they move on? 'NEVER AGAIN' is what the jewish people say, we should never forget, but if thats the case, why wasnt there a jewish outcry at many mass murders since? in the balkans, in africa, in recent years... or are jewish people so insular that they dont care for any other holocaust?

indeed i would, but eastenders takes itself seriously, the ott 'dumb dumbs', the shock in the storylines, the hyperbole... emmerdale however doesnt take itself seriously, it almost parodies itself, so imho it can get away with it. in general its a much lighter (and possibly realistic) drama.
