Shameless Series 7.
exactly, i mean, what was the point in starting it?... just to get a cheap laugh by shocking people?.. there was a golden opportnity there to raise issues in a comedic way and they failed... its like they started out then chickend out of completing it.

Artists that are largely remembered for just one song
another excellant post zippy.. :) however, i think teardrop explodes are known for 'reward' by most.... i prefer 'when i dream' anyway! drummond referd to waterman as a 'genius'? was that sarcastic? and caulty recorded for S/A/W ? ...oh dear, i find that uncomfortable!

The BRITs 2010 ·
another great show! i know its pretty meaningless , i know its corporate back slapping, but ive always had a soft spot for the tradition that is the brits. sam fox?...oh dear... desperately trying to make light of her debacle from '89 .... and only made it WORSE! what a complete failure, she has no charisma and no idea how to host. all she has done is compound the past and add a new generation of people to laugh at her. peter kaye.... brilliant! highlight was calling liam gallagher a 'nobhead' for chucking his award into the crowd ... exactly what we were thinking! gaga?... a well deserved winner, a superb performer, creative, individual (but not really original) but i didnt like her shy american acceptance speeches .... thought all the performances were good/great .... except one.... guess! how tf has this escaped chavette (rescued from jeremy kyles participants, cos thats where she would have been if she wasnt lucky enough to be picked for a role in girls aloud) cheryl coles performance was DIRE. it was disgraceful, every week this tawdry bint has the audacity to judge 'wannabes' on the x factor then when it comes down to it she cannot produce the goods herself ...hell.. she wasnt even a good mimer!!! some say she can sing...then why doesnt she? or are her abilities that limited that she cannot multitask? energetic routines? then calm them down if she cannot perform! shes a singer, not a dancer... or supposed to be. real artistes CAN do both... kate bush managed 30 years ago when she pioneered the use of radio mics for her tour. cheryl cole = fraud, fake, and should be dropped by the x factor. just proves that 'look good' doesnt equate to IS good. i dont like jls, i was disappointed they won anything, but ill not take away the fact they can perform live. enjoyed robbie., lilly, kasabian, florence, jay z , dizzy etc. hate fearne cotton.... her style of presenting is child like...shes supposed to be 28 (?) not 12,.

assisted suicide .....
my worry is that unscrupulous reletives might try to use it to get rid of a burden... but then again a precise law could legislate against this whilst allowing genuine cases to be legalised.

the Moody Blues
burst onto the music scene with the 60's chart topper classic 'go now' in 1964. after which they didnt really bother the singles chart too much ... apart from the way ott sentimental 'nights in white satin ' either a great love song or the biggest load of cheese ever! you decide... 'question' and 'isnt life strange' (70 72) were decent singles but the best IMHO was 'ride my see saw' from '68. the band concentrated mainly on albums, striking up a very respectable portfolio of success. ive got 'days of future passed', but tbh wasnt impressed. i kinda got the feeling they courted mainly middle ground, appealing to ageing beatles fans and 'nice' people who behaved themselves! thoughts?

assisted suicide .....
after revelations on 'inside out' last night (bbc 1 7 pm) veteran broadcaster ray gosling is being interviewed by the police following admissions that he helped his terminally ill partner to die. he was wracked in pain, dying of the effects of aids... no way back, just slowly suffering. he asked the doctor to leave the room, he then suffocated his partner with a pillow, thus ending his suffering. should he be prosecuted? should the doctor be prosecuted (as some have suggested)?

UK Top 40 Singles - w/e 17 Feb 2001
i think the problem with that is that many might not know exactly when the pop idol era began.. i dont! what i dont want is for retro to be swamped by threads that although relate to 'oldies' (5 - 10 years) arnt really pertainent as they could refer to very similar sounds around today. after all, many tracks from 8 years ago wouldnt sound dated today... retro has 50 years to chose from, id sooner attract convo about REAL retro as opposed to recent retro. im leaning towards keeping the 'cut off date' as y2k, but relaxing the boundary if the subject matter isnt akin to todays music... ie girls aloud, sugababes etc. keep thoughts coming guys! :)

UK Top 40 Singles - w/e 17 Feb 2001
maybe its time to re-think the boundaries. 03 was 7 years ago now ... y2k was a conveiniant boundary to set and that was set in 07.... or 8...lol. but many of the artists going in 03 and musical styles are still contemporary today so isnt really retro... thoughts anyone?

great american tv shows on the main channels
seems to me that over the last 20 odd years theres been a lack of great american tv shows.... the ones that appealed to the whole family... in the 60's there was classic dramas like perry mason, star trek and the man from uncle .... comedies like lucille ball, bewitched and rowan and martins laugh in... and westerns like rawhide, the virginian, bonanza and the high chaparal. come the 70's detective serise took over (dramas were still repeated) ironside (started in the late 60's) kojak, cannon, mc cleans law, starskey and hutch, rockford files and they died out slowly in the 80's with cagney and lacey, hill st blues etc. in the late 70's and throughout the 80's the great american soaps took over with dallas, dynasty, colbys, falcon crest .... but into the 90's interest in mainstream american programmes slowly died out. all we ever seem to get are silly sit coms like friends, frasier, etc. ok we have sex in the city and desperate houswives but tbh they arnt exactly family type programmes, they only really seem to appeal to a certain demograph. do you miss classic american dramas? which did you like?
