Global Warming: Fact or Myth
watching 'the day after tomorrow'... i think some people ought to realise this is utter FICTION and based on sentiment, not science, even i with a very rudimentary knowlege of weather can see the utter bollox in this ridiculous film. it itsnt a documentary, its fiction.

absolutely... i was totally engrossed in it and it really did hit the spot imagining other worlds ... dr who should take note ... loved the visuals... i was gutted when the bstrds destroyed that tree... loved the concept of the pandoras life forms were interlinked , and the plot was straight out of the REAL wild west, the 'baddies' exploiting indigenous peoples, moving them around, killing them. coulda been sherman, custar, lee, etc fighting indians. im not bothered whether the acting was good or adequate, whether the dialogue was great, or the fact that the plot was metaphorically the story of the attitude of america (be it red indians, vietnamese, iraquis, whatever)... the film succeded it stimulating the imagination and transporting me to a distant planet in the distant future. 8.5/10

Artists that are largely remembered for just one song
i agree, i dont think they listen to sc just to p*** off their parents....i reckon its down to apathy, its very hard nowdays to produce something original... our generation has already done it! music is controled nowdays like never before by money men.. in the 60's and punk/new wave era there was options all round, it was 'hip' to be experimenting with differing sounds and techniques. but what can todays youth create for themselves? everything now is totally generic.

life without the beatles?
i agree, i think inovations would have come in from a variety of scources istead of primarily one ... well the beatles kinda focused new techniques...

Celebrity Big Brother 2010
that was great fun.... really enjoyed this seriese of cbb .... davina was hilarious but she couldnt stop in... but nicolas eviction was clearly a fix... she HAD to go to make way for davina, no one else could remotely pass off with davina in the costume. most expected steph to go...but regradless of votes she wasnt even in a costume so was safe.

life without the beatles?
nope.... you overrate martin. on that tv prog about greatest composers a couple of years ago it was lennon and mccartney who were responsible for the innovation with help from starr/harrison. on 'rubber soul' 7 of the 14 new innovations could be found on 'tomorrow never knows', indeed brian matthew on radio 2's sounds of the 60's recently referanced this. lennon told martin which sound he was trying to get. not really, he was the manager who knew how to package the beat groups... but the music was already there. the beatles, gerry & the pacemakers etc were already playing 'beat' music. epstein was in the right place at the right time.... abit like mac claren, the music was happening regardless. cod correctly states that the beatles consolidated into the 'group' form of music we know now, from other scources. the beatles early on never hid their influences, in fact no group did! beat, r&b, all referance american rock n roll, blues or jazz musicians as their inspiration and many started out using covers.

life without the beatles?
ive lifted this off digital spy.... think its pretty supportive! Have you heard of "Tomorrow Never Knows" some of have argued that this is the first drums n bass song. Are you kidding me - from a pop music song structure to recording engineering standpoint - you're hard pressed to NOT hear the Beatles influence everywhere in modern pop recordings. Let's see: Use of heavy limiting on drums and guitar (pioneered on Revolver, rarely if ever used before by anyone) - everywhere these days High use of trebel and equilization of guitars and vocals (rare before Beatles Rubber Soul) - everwhere afterwards Key changes in middle 8/bridges of songs - everywhere Time changes in middle eight bridges- progressive rock Use of weird/experimental guitar chords in pop songs (non-existant before the Beatles) - now everywhere Artifical Double Tracking - invented by Beatles Engineer Ken Townsend, now used in one form or another on almost every song by anyone Guitar fuzz box/distortion pedal on bass used by the Beatles during Rubber Soul sessions. You mignt hear these nowadays too Pioneering use of vocal effects like phasing/revolving Leslie/etc. - pioneered by the Beatles on Revolver, used extensively on Sgt Peppers - used everywhere you hear any slightly psychedlic sounding song Direct Injection (DI) bass and guitar recording on rock records - used by Beatles engineers on Revolver and later. Prominent on distgorted guitar on Revolution - used by virtually everyone nowadays Use of editing - Used by the Beatles first to combine multiple takes of songs into one - nowadays this is done on vitually every modern pop recording using computer technology like Pro-tools Varispeed recording (speeding up or slowing down recordings to alter the characterisitcs of instruments or voice) - used extensively by the Beatles first on Revolver and afterwards - now used commonly Mixing in backward guitars and vocals on rock songs or on the fade-out Starting songs with guitar feedback I guess that went well The list could go on an on... Are the Beatles the greatest band well that is opinion Anyway, saying the Beatles didn't influence pop is like saying Puccini didn't influence pop. Most current tracks don't sound like La Boheme or Turandot in terms of rhythm or production, but most current tracks have pop sensibilities from Che Gelida or Nessun Dorman in them for 100% sure!

life without the beatles?
i disagree, id suggest they influenced music far more then is generally accepted.

life without the beatles?
the beatles created pop as we know it... pop groups were always guitar based. pop has evolved and guitar pop is now called 'indie' but in fact it ISNT indie just because they have guitars. pop = popular music, so it isnt restricted to one sound, it covers any popularist music.

Celebrity Big Brother 2010
last nights episode was HILARIOUS! id nominate it as THE best cbb ever. IT ALSO SHOWS EXACTLY HOW A TEAM OF HOUSEMATES GET ON WITHOUT THE NASTY CHILDREN they often have in. instead of calling petulant brats like lady sov 'a big character' and 'entertaining', last night show proved the point that you dont need horrible people stiring shyte to be entertaining. ivana was pure class.... she took the joke extremely well, with poise and grace. in SICK of stephanie, that awful 'talk with a mouth full of food' voice she has is irritating. loved the alex tanning scene... especially his arse! it looked like he had the squits! vinnie was being big headed, i hope nicola and dane stay in longer then him simply because of his attitude towards them suggesting theyll be out before him. i hope stephs out tonight, i expect both the old custards to be out , ivana/steph.

ISLAM4UK Plans March Through Wootton Bassett
how do you know that?... as they have been banned before there has to be a reason. they had no choice... either ban or allow, theyd be criticised... however EVERYONE was against the march cross party. id be suspicious if ordinary muslims were upset.... but they arnt... the proposed march was a deliberate act of intimidation towards non muslims by extremists who have no support amongst their own ethnic group.
