    is this a fact or a notion that the papers have printed?...

     

    historical facts should be taught warts and all.... we are as a nation (as is every country) based on our past, we are what/who we are because of our history, to fail to relate historical facts not only is unjust and unhelpful to our kids but its dumbing down our very cultural roots.

    but now i think they are class.... i think i had image problems, monkees and wham were 'teeny bop' acts but were good pop, the walkers were for old women! lol, but they were superb. no one today can sing like scott walker.

    What does that actually mean though Rob...? The figure mean nowt unless you actually happen to know about nautical positions in any great detail... And anyway, wouldn't this sort of thing be kept secret...? The Govt wont even release the details of the 'dodgy dossier' which sent us hurtling into Iraq, but now we're supposed to buy into their 'openness' and 'honesty' on this issue....     it means that if the gps has them plotted in iraqi waters then the british government are right and iran is wrong. though i know youd like the iranians to be right <_<.

     

    it has nothing to do with nautical positions really, gps is accurate and can plot their exact position on the earths surface so they were either within iranian earth surface area or they werent!

    Exactly, carbon monoxide will kill you a lot quicker than second hand smoke ever could... That was kinda the point I was really trying to make... People who bang on about smokers "polluting their lungs" wont do or say sh!t about what cars do to the environment and to us... I was basically replying to the whole "I want to breathe clean air" argument... My reply is basically "become an anti-car environmental activist if you want to breathe 'clean air' then...." The contribution smokers make to polluting our atmosphere, and by extension our health, is pretty damned minimal IMO compared to what cars and big industrial manufacturing processes are doing... Take a look at the smog clouds in big cities, you think it's people smoking that's creating that....??

     

     

    no comparison though... a pub in an enclosed environment, so a small amount of smoke is very noticeable. ok in the larger cities car exhausts can be a problem under certain weather types but the vast majority of us dont live in the middle of a congested city! i would be the first to complain IF carbon monoxide was a problem. besides travel for most is a necessity, smoking ciggys simply isnt... its a choice.

    Very much 'cod' Funk though mate.... A bit like the whole "Nu Metal" malarkay..... Limp Dick and Linkin Park could hardly be called credible Metal acts....

     

     

    oh i dunno m8, im not sure they claimed to be funk, funk... abit like the blues in rock, its a hybrid! i dont mind it tbh, the early 80's had alot of hybrid music with marriages of differing styles. i thought it was good, and healthy for music in general when artists are looking and experimenting.

    Level 42 did make some sort of claim to be a "Funk" band though, didn't they....?

     

    Mind you, that claim, not quite as laughable as the one Spandau Ballet made to being Funk..... :lol: :lol: :lol:

     

    oh i think the early spandau tracks had a strong funk flavour, as did many 'britpop' acts of the time including level 42. 'chant number 1', 'paint me down','instinction' all had rather funky basslines and brass backing (probably synth though)..

    But why is Eurovision seen as being "camp" though...? Tell me that... Cos I just dont get it.. Why should it be 'Camp' or 'Kitsch' or whatever... Who fukkin' says it has to be that way...? If you ask me, it's a case of it having 'Campness' thrust upon it rather than it being inherent... I seriously doubt that it was the intended idea of the guys who thought it up in the first place for it to end up as some lame-ass, camp, queenie, cheese-o-thon...

     

    And I am fukkin HEART SICK of hearing all these bloody conspiracy theories about why Britain doesn't do well... We dont do well, BECAUSE WE SEND OUT SH!TE, end of story, now can we please just get fukkin' beyond this....? The UK has won the bloody thing twice in my lifetime, write it out a thousand times there is no conspiracy, there is no conspiracy, there is no conspiracy......

     

    And you want some examples of people who should represent us...? (well not that I haven't actually stated them already about a hundred bloody times, but it seems like some people are a bit slow to catch up, so.....) Morrissey (who HAS offered to represent us BY THE WAY and was knocked back by those useless c/unts at the BBC......), Jarvis Cocker, Neil Hannon & The Divine Comedy, Alison Goldfrapp, Ladytron, Massive Attack.... Hell, I'd even take Robbie Williams over the shower of sh!t that is Scooch.....

     

    Any one of those would acquit themselves marvellously, would actually write a decent, original song and would perform with such consummate professionalism....

     

    disagree.... just look at the way the votes go with people very predictably voting for their neighbours. it makes no difference who reprisents us, we will not win.

     

    i thought ruslana (?) the other year was the best winner for ages, a good traditionally based folk/rock act.

     

    eurovision though has always been abit .... 'square', in the 60's 70's it was never seen as serious, we knew it was not so much camp as twee.

    In my experience, non-smoking areas are always deserted in the bars I visit whilst the smoking areas are rammed....

     

    not my experience m8..... far from it in fact... smokers are a minority who inflict their filth on the majority.. told you before, smokers can do wtf they want, where they want as long as IM not expected to share it with them! please understand, that i really object and am offended by having to inhale smokers smoke.

     

    What a completely RIDICULOUS thing to say. You can;t ban something that MILLIONS of people are ADDICTED to. There are plenty of illegal drugs, yet there's still a HUGE market for them. It would just be the same for cigarettes. It would go "underground" and far more people would be getting them from abroard on day trips to Calais or whatever. They would lose so much money to the black market, it's a completly ridiculous thing yo say.

     

    you are showing your ignorance here dude, you cant just go to calais to stock up on ciggys. i go regularly to calais for wine and they dont care about the ammount of wine you buy but are very strict on the tobacco.. you try smuggling extra ciggys past these professional bull$h!tsniffers !!!!
