It's nothing to do with your age. It's merely baffling that all you ever do in here is bash Eastenders and then when anybody picks you up on it you cite that Tony storyline as an example of something good. Well yes, one episode over the past twelve months escaped your criticism - that still doesn't answer the question of why you bother watching if you hate it so?
because soaps vary... storylines come and go, some are interesting, others not so, and imho eastenders is guilty as fook of putting out ridiculous, unbelieveable, incredible storylines that are nonsense. like i said, we dont watch it now ... because its rubbish, but it was on whilst we cooked our dinner. we usually have something else on. we dip into it every so often to see IF theres an interesting storyline...
just look at last nights ep ..... ok have them sail away, but get the effing logistics right! sailing off in her wedding dress with seemingly no other clothes with a baby with seemingly no other clothes or baby stuff (food, nappies etc) on a cabin boat which it totally unsuitable for a baby and without any money, bank cards, etc etc etc was utter bollox. in reality they would have sailed off on a barge, a home on water, after he waited for her to get everything she needed for both her and the bratt... i mean, thats basic common sense!
so it wasnt so much the basic storyline that was bollox, but the manner in which the detail was manifest, i mean who created that? a child? bollox doesnt equate to good drama.

Surely the reality is that it largely comes down to the quality of the music. Banning Gary Glitter and Jonathan King's records can hardly be said to be depriving listeners of quality music whereas a wholesale ban on all Phil Spector productions would. That's not to say that's how it should be but it's the way it seems to work.
ok i must admit the idea for ths thread wasnt completely mine, it is based on one on digital spy where someone asked whether or not ggs music would ever be acceptable. of course the fans who like that music dont have much of a problem with listening/buying his music as they 'seperate the man from the music' ..... and thats the excuse jacko fans use too ... i guess the real question is 'CAN you seperate the man from the music'? as turning a blind eye to wrongdoings so you can enjoy your music isnt really addressing the issue.
so fans of whoever would argue that it IS quality music...

You really are fucking dull to witness. If it's 'utter bollox' 99% of the time then why do you bother watching? You need to get a more fulfilling life if you've got enough spare to time to indulge in something you really detest.
i said that i hadnt watched it for some time, we watched it, or i should say it was on, between the 2 episodes of emmerdale that we enjoyed... now stop hounding the 'oldies' you petulant child (yes i noticed the ONLY person you had a go at on the 'bj gay thread' in the lounge was russt's despite a dozen other trite one liners ) it has been noted that you are out to goad the oldies, think you are clever huh? ooh look at my guys, i can 'diss' the oldies..... grow up.

I'm 25
Basically i got very bored and disillusioned of pop circa 2002-3, I totally stopped listening to it 2004-6. I started listening to a lof more obscure music, going to mod and northern soul nights and buying that sort of stuff. I even saw Love live (Forever Changes is one of my top 10 fave albums EVER). There are two kinds of music IMHO - good and bad. And The Smoke is good :)
i had a similar genesis myself.... i didnt like the music in the early 70's, glam rock, prefering older sounds from the 60's, hence i turned my back pretty much on my era music and collected 60's music instead.
It was covered by Boney M and is on a lot of their compilations.Wasn't a big hit though in either version though:
The Smoke - #45 (Mar 67)
Boney M - #57 (Apr 80)
i didnt know boney m covered that.

Not one but TWO cadaver dogs plus a very interesting book written by Detective Amaral and so far only published in Portugal.
so you reckon that theres a big cover up, all these people know what happened but are putting on a show? you reckon the portugese know what happened but are keeping it to themselves?
i said EVIDENCE, a book isnt evidence, its a money making scam!

hes talking nonsense, the river analogy is wrong. yes you can get whirlpools (eddys) in rivers but they are small and local and they still travel downstream with the flow.
however, the idea of parellel universes using different frequencies is part of (my beloved) string theory. but its only a theory, not a fact.
-
I very much doubt that Maddie's still alive. Two dogs told us that and two people, initials G & K know exactly what happened to her and where she is. I'm 99% sure of that as are many other people if you read other forums.
evidence?.... where is you sceintifically proven EVIDENCE that you base this on? heresay and rumour are just hot air.

I'd like to make a point if I may. UK radio is hypocritical. They all have banned Gary Glitter's and Jonathan King's music yet carry on playing Phil Spector produced tracks. He's a convicted murderer. Surely a murderer is worse than a paedophile?
in essence, that is the point of this thread, highlighting the inconsistencies plus asking ourselves how it effects us. should we support criminals or in a certain case, suspected criminal (smooth criminal? )
as for 'surely a murderer is worse then a paedophile' .... dunno.... difficult question to answer, i suppose phil spector is highly unlikely to re-offend whereas gary glitter WOULD.
-
My point was that if people like me who know a lot about music, bands and albums haven't heard of them how can they be lost "classics" I've heard of all the classic albums. That was my point!
... but tom kay who is half your age is familiar with smoke.... id suggest you dont know as much as you claim.
mostly its a generation thing, the acts highlighted were even before MY time! lol, but im not arrogant enough to claim to be the pop oracle.. this info will be of interest to people familiar with the psychedelic scene in the late 60s, and they will be around 60 years old themselves now unless they are (like tom) retrospective fans. so its a niche market..
-
well 1 idiot has been bragging about buying gary glitters greatest hits, most of us im sure would be repelled by this, but it does pose the question in a free society.... when should we 'say no' to buying material created by someone who has a criminal conviction, and when is it acceptable?
now gary glitter is an extreme case, his music is rarely ever played on the radio (as by doing so he will get royalties, thus funding his sick lifestyle) and quite rightly so, but where do you actually draw the line?
many of our musicians have been caught out, ken dodd for tax evasion... (not that we would buy a kd record but still...lol) chuck berry, jerry lee lewis, bill wyman, a bloke from the bay city rollers, a bloke from the foundations, pete townsend, jonathon king, all have had some form of sexual encounter either by relationship or downloading child porn, with underage children. plus how many others have been convicted of violence, even murder.. oh and of course theres jacko!
when we now buy material these people have produced, arnt we actually saying "we know what youve done, we dont care" .... should we care? arnt we aiding them?

I found it all a bit laughable tbh
absolutely..... it was the first time id seen it in weeks but yet again it was a great big eastenders AS IF!
To be honest, I thought it was a dreadful episode. Kara Tointon's acting wasn't great, so the emotional moments fell a bit flat for me.But I think the root problem is that I still found it impossible to believe that Dawn really did love Garry. It just WOULDN'T HAPPEN.
exactly..... bollox storylines unrealistically executed... AS IF she would go off on that cabin boat just like that! no clothes, no baby stuff..AS IF a baby could be brought up on a cabin boat... a barge, yes, but not that toy thing they were on...
UTTER BOLLOX as usual.

You'll never get the "youth" in charge of record labels mate... Not even Indie ones.... So, the next best thing is the likes of the ones I just mentioned.... Those that "get" younger bands and want to give them a hand up rather than just exploit and manipulate them....
sadly i think you are probably right :(

Cool, the Smoke are great (My Friend Jack ) but more appropriate in retro :)
bloody hell tom!!!! thats an obscure track to know, theres not many oldies who know that one... remind me of your age again, anyway i give you a big
and respect your knowlege (even if not your waterman taste! :P )
Never heard of any it mentions.then why bother saying so?
im not going to put up with this type of post where i mod, it adds nothing to discussion so in future will be deleted.

Very true, but what did you wear
I will own up to Cheesecloth shirts, really cool in the long hot summer of 1976 :P , Owned a pair of Falmer jeans and Brutus jeans  , and i hate to admit owning a pair of Sta press trousers, but I can honestly say nothing of the rest.
denims and t shirts mainly, but earlier on i had a tank top, flares (mind you, all trousers/jeans were flared prior to punk), ben shirman shirts.. oh and 1 pair of platform shoes! .... but mainly trainers and denims.

Singer Ellie Greenwich dies, aged 69
Wednesday, August 26 2009, 21:44 BST
By Oli Simpson
Rex Features
Singer-songwriter Ellie Greenwich, who penned a string of classic 1960s rock 'n' roll songs, has passed away, aged 69.
Greenwich died of a heart attack at New York's St Luke's Roosevelt Hospital, where she had been admitted a few days earlier for treatment of pneumonia, according to The AP.
Greenwich wrote hits including 'Da Doo Ron Ron', 'Be My Baby' and 'Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)'. She was inducted into the Songwriters' Hall Of Fame in 1991.
She formed a musical partnership with her husband Jeff Barry, penning songs for acts including The Ronettes, The Crystals and The Exciters. The couple separated in 1965 but continued to write music together, including several tracks for Neil Diamond.
Other artists to have recorded versions of songs written by Greenwich include Elton John, Tina Turner and U2.
scource, digital spy.
another sad passing of one of musics early creators.

It's infinitely better... It's not a bunch of Corporate w/ankers, it's artists themselves 'bringing up' other artists.... Mentors - good, Svengalis/Exploiters - bad.... It would surely be far better if the music industry were controlled by the likes of Dave Gahan, John Lydon, Morrissey, Robert Smith, Siouxsie, etc (who would be far more inclined to encourage young bands to just go with their instincts), than a bunch of c/unts like Cowell, Watertw@t or Walsh who have all the creativity of a dead haddock and who control and manipulate everything.......
Or the alternative - another Tony Wilson or Alan McGee to give their acts free reign.....
..... but better still if it was youth lead.
