  1. I'm pretty sure it is definitely 48 hours. I notice that new releases always tend to peak around Monday night most of the time, and then stabalise in the same area roughly (or start dropping). But on Monday morning they're still climbing rapidly, so it doesn't really make sense that it would be a 24 hour chart IMO, as they'd surely have to "defend" their sales from the day before so wouldn't still be climbing so fast. Like Loick Essien this week was only #43 at the end of Sunday night. Then by Monday night he had jumped up to #25. If it was a 24 hour chart he wouldn't have been able to climb that fast still then if it was a 48 hour chart, as he'd have sales dropping off as well, whereas on the 48 hour chart he wouldn't. By Tuesday he had already started falling. And this pattern goes for most new releases from what I've seen whenever I look, so I don't think it's just that Loick Essien didn't front-load all his sales into one day or whatever. I do wish there was some confirmation though. Has anybody ever tried contacting them about it and asking, or do they try and keep their chart formula a secret? (god knows why they would want to do that though, unless they think people could manipulate it or something if they know how it worked).
  2. I believe Elton John - Candle In The Wind sold all 658,000 copies he debuted at #1 with in one day (Saturday).
  3. But how many people who follow Gaga on Twitter are even big fans of her? I think you'd be surprised. A lot of people follow famous people for no reason other than just because they're famous, or if someone is particularly interesting. Then you have Gaga who is the most followed person on Twitter, and has a massive media profile, so a lot of people will just follow her just to be part of that. Obviously some people who follow her will be big fans, but a lot of them won't. Plus a lot of people follow a person and then totally forget about it, same with Facebook groups. Why do you think Bird is the Word "only" got to #3 despite having a few hundred thousand followers on Facebook I believe. It works the same with popstars like Gaga. Plus you have people who don't even use Twitter anymore but still kept their account. It all adds up. She does have a big fanbase... but she'd have to be selling at a similar rate to how she has been the past 6 hours to get the official #1 this week, for the rest of the chart week. I really can't imagine that happening as things will surely die down by tomorrow at the latest to a more normal level. Next week is her big chance... and it doesn't look like anything can stop her then at this point unless something massive comes along from the BRITs.
  4. It's not gonna happen. Remember the iTunes #1 is far easier to take at this time of the week than any other. Not trying to diminish Gaga's achievement, as it's amazing, but it's very unlikely she's sold more than ~10k so far (and probably a bit less, although that number is rising rapidly, of course). Then when you think that her fanbase will have downloaded it straight away, then it seems highly unlikely that it can sell 70k+ more for the rest of today and tomorrow. It does look like it will go top 10 though, indeed, which is slightly better than I expected but I don't mind being proved wrong.

It's an embarrassing attempt at creating an "iconic" lyric to place itself in pop culture. But instead it just comes across as a massive fail and ends up being laughable. I hate this the more I listen to it, so I'm just going to avoid it from now on. Shame it's selling so much on hype alone... how much the song sticks around will be the big test as to how popular it is with the public, as with most songs like this.
  6. I know someone who lives in America, and trust me her fanbase there is basically teenage girls who "idolise" her for some reason. And probably a few pervy old men like you. :)
  7. That will never happen. Teenage girls here aren't going to look up to some bland and generic Nordic-looking blonde when there's women like Cheryl Cole about. For once we should be somewhat glad about her existence.
  8. Why do people have to be called a "hater" just because they don't like the song? Honestly, let's not be childish. I really hate that word.
  9. For songs that don't get played that much, yes. That Birdy girl (14 yo singer) got into the top 100 on iTunes just because of one play on Fearne's show the other week.

I still hate it. Not that I was expecting it to grow on me - that rarely happens with pop music. I might like it a bit more if it didn't have that riff that runs through the song but is at its most annoying on the chorus. Sounds absolutely horrible. Maybe there will be more interesting stuff on the album. Ehhh.
  11. Not only was it a charity single (which tend to be the only ones to be able to command those kind of rapid sales, along with X Factor winning singles), but it was also released in a MUCH lower sales climate, so it didn't have to sell anywhere near as quickly as Gaga would have to. You really need to lower your expectations or you're going to be severely disappointed when Gaga "only" gets in at the bottom half of the top 40 this week.
  12. I'm glad there's one Gaga fan capable of making a relatively sane prediction! This is what I roughly expect too (well, maybe not the last part, depends what the video is like). And seriously, to the other poster, her lead on iTunes would have to be so huge that everyone else's would be miniscule in comparison for her to even "narrowly miss #1" on Sunday. I mean, Chipmunk is probably going to sell like 80k+ this week? Wake up. I have no idea why so many people on this forum just don't engage their brain properly when making predictions
  13. Really? The melody is pretty much an exact copy in places. I presume it was supposed to be a Madonna nod but frankly I think it's crossed the line into rip-off territory. I wonder what Madonna song is next for the Gaga treatment... Alejandro was La Isla Bonita mixed with Ace of Base, this is Express Yourself and a bit Vogue in parts...
  14. That depends if people actually WANT to buy it though. Reaction so far has been very mixed (I would say quite bad, but "haters" tend to be louder than lovers, and the "haters" are going crazy with the Madonna rip-off angle on this one)... I do think it will be #1 on iTunes by tomorrow but I can actually see it dropping off quite sharpish, probably falling off as we go into next week. Personally I think it's very very poor...
  15. Voted for Cascada. Not sure how Leona is worse than this, but I'm used to bizarre stuff on this site by now.

I just don't understand why it's ALWAYS a boyband or a girlband. Before the Spice Girls in 1997, it was actually quite varied rather than the same type of act all the time. But since then it's like they saw how successful the Spice Girls one was and keep trying to repeat it. And obviously it worked for a while, as Boyzone and Westlife were also huge. But they need to realise that it was because those acts were so huge (at the time) that those sold so well. Bringing in second string girlbands and boybands really isn't going to repeat the same trick. I would have liked to see someone like Tinie Tempah doing it this year, would have been much more interesting and different, and would have sold a lot more than this dull effort by The Wanted. If they get a bigger pop act and couple it with a half decent song they will sell more, which is only a good thing at the end of the day, right?! And personally, I prefer them when they're funny. Although, pardon me, I didn't realise The Saturdays one was supposed to be humourous?

LOL at the predictableness of this. I said that they'd be doing the Comic Relief single on this board like back in December, though anyone with any clue about it could have said that it was THAT predictable. Honestly, why is it always boybands and girlbands who do the Comic Relief single? Are they really the only acts who want to do it? (I find that hard to believe, frankly). Someone should tell them there's more to British pop than this crap. At least Children in Need is a BIT more varied at times. And the song is utter cheesy dreck. #1 and then a quick exit.
  18. On this forum, yes. 50 Cent hasn't really been that much of a talking point since his lame attempt at starting a rivalry with Kanye back in 2007, but overall I would say he IS more hated. If he put a song out tomorrow and it shot to #1 on iTunes, you'd see how hated he is. 50 Cent made one okay album (Get Rich Or Die Tryin', although it's very overrated in some quarters) and pumped out complete and utter $h!t for the rest of his career. In Da Club is still obviously a hip hop classic though, whether you love it or hate it. But let's face it, he's not a good rapper at all - his flow is almost non-existent, his rhymes often retarded, his lyrics can be absolutely disgusting (as they are on Candy Shop)... nearly all his songs owe more to the production than anything else. As for Smack That, I didn't vote for it, so perhaps you're better off posing that question to someone who actually DID.
  19. I think 50 Cent is more hated than Akon. Candy Shop should hopefully go out first in 2005, what an utterly diabolical record :puke2: Surely in the top 10 worst ever.
  20. Monster is great. Second best song here. Good fun record. You're All I Have was much better than Chasing Cars, but OH WELL. Not to mention the even better Set The Fire To The Third Bar. Kooks and Razorlight are garbage though.
  21. I'm surprised Akon even made it that far, to be honest. Maybe Lonely could finally be the song to get him past Round 6 in 2005? :kink: Cascada out! The other dance songs here are so much better (well, Meck is not much better, but Fedde Le Grand and Infernal are practically Strawberry Fields Forever in comparison).
  22. There's quite a bit entering the top 40 atm, you're right. Chipmunk, Jay Sean, Loick Essien, Lethal Bizzle were all released this week and are now top 40 on iTunes, then Nicki Minaj/Drake and Jeremih/50 Cent have recently climbed into the top 40, plus Dr Dre was out last week. So that combined with what was already there before has suddenly tipped the balance a lot more compared to a few weeks ago.
  23. Well other members do contribute, non? :P It's just that before she disappeared, it was only really Britster who posted pop bars, and frankly she was very good with it and did it quite regularly, so it's understandable that nobody wanted to get in the way of that, really, and there was no need. And then the thread was thrown into disarray for a short amount of time (seriously, I remember a few weeks ago there were days and days of no pop bars being posted, and mostly random chat for pages and pages, which is fine in moderation of course but it was a bit woah, this thread is in shambles )... but now a few posters post pop bars at least once a day so it's fine now, really. Britster was still a very valuable member though - I think some people took her for granted :o (I sound like I'm speaking in an obituary here.)
  24. Maybe she's on a break... I mean, being relied on to post pop bars all the time must have got a little boring/annoying. She still comes online it seems, but she hasn't posted in a month now :o And I remember some people were complaining about her/her moderation in other parts of the forum. Hopefully she didn't take it to heart, though the timing does seem somewhat suspect, I have to say. But she was very valued here even if some people thought she was an "iTunes nazi!11" [/schmaltzycrap] :o

Haha, not really - I was just thinking back to Katy Perry fans and their moaning about Snoop Dogg's supposed "non-rap" in California Gurls (despite it easily being the best part of the song, IMO, but oh well!)
