In general 'it attracts guests' is, as you say nonsense. Good forums, run well however are a different story. I was only defending the Alicia Keys forum (not any of the others) which is very new, in its infancy and still growing up so the axe seems (to me) a bit premature and harsh. give it a chance and revisit in 6 months ? It has not been that quiet. I fully agree with you, there is nothing worse than old stories and out of date info. perhaps posters to the forums should make more of an effort to remove old posts (if they have the rights to ? or should the AF Mods ?)

Mr ridiculous here :rolleyes: this is how I understand things to be: to get more revenue from advertising you need to demonstrate you are reaching a larger/bigger/wider/diverse/targeted audience. Then you can charge the advertisers more. For this to happen BJ needs to attract more members and guests. Having AFs for major artists I believe is a small but significant step in that direction, it helps attract guests and if they like what they see they sign up and join in. This is the point I was trying to convey in my earlier post (obviously not very well !!). If all we get left with is GaGa and Britney forums (because thats who seems to be the main focus of so many BJ members) then guests will have a look and likely decide it's not for them (except GaGa loons :P ) I know its never quite this black and white or so simple and BJ has lots of other features that attract members but the AFs are one of the things that attract people (I for one, as I found answers here on the Shakira forum which I couldn't elsewhere... and joined up !!)

here's a thought Jonjo...... could we use the forum's banner, change the wording to say something like "save the Alicia Keys Forum" and add it as our signature (or whatever the pictures at the foot of people posts are called !!). Maybe try and get everyone in here to do the same, means it appears everywhere we post, bring the strength of feeling and support to management attention? I'm no good with that sort of thing but maybe you could have a go ? (Or whoever did the banner ? was it Theo ?) and when they get fed up with seeing it everywhere we could promise to remove them in return for our forum :) hee hee

Anyone any good at doing the banner type signatures/avatars or whatever they are called at the bottom of all their message posts ? I want to get one done that with pictures of Alicia and some words along the lines of "Save the Alicia AF" Maybe try and get everyone in here to do the same and try and get the attention of management to show the strength of feeling and support for Alicia's AF. Maybe get them to reverse their decision ? What do you guys think ? Anybody volunteer to make such a 'banner/picture thingy' ?

I'm guessing the 'management' have based decision on recent activity and it had recently gone quite quiet in here, for which we are all to blame. I wish I'd had more time to post pictures up, more time to get info and post it. I even forgot to do the weekly radio air-play stuff (My bad). I found all the chart runs and video stuff you pinned so useful. It'll be a shame to loose it. can we lodge an appeal ? Or do we try and get everyone who supported the forum to lobby the management? Or do we just have to accept that Alicia's fanbase in Buzzjack is fairly small and the forum is always going to struggle. seems odd as didn't she come 5th or 6th in the favourite females poll recently in The Lounge ? I don't know what else to suggest at the moment. I'll keep thinking. Initially I think we need to appeal to management to re-look at their decision. One of the biggest artists in the world and BJ doesn't have an AF for her ? Hardly good for attracting new members. I am disappointed and saddened by this. :(

can't believe we finally got an Alicia Keys forum and now its gonna disappear :( An artist who has been sharing top spot with GaGa on (UK) commercial radio for number of plays each week for at least the last 6 months. An artist who is almost certainly in the top 10 most popular artist across many parts of the world right now (not just Buzzjack). An artist who is very soon to be a mum. can we not play the pregnancy card ? is she being discriminated against because she is pregnant ;) tis a sad day that aproaches :( And where will I go now when I need to look up facts and figures about Alicia's sales and chart runs, all that brilliant stuff Jonjo has pinned. :cry: :cry:

Baby is due November if I remember rightly so hopefully after she's had a few months off to enjoy being a new mum we'll get her back in the public eye next summer (northern hemisphere anyway). And who knows maybe some new music too :)

think we all need to do everything we can to boost activity, now that we finally got an Alicia Forum lets not loose it :(

with the advantage that I've now seen the vid...... It's genius. Addictive. And the video is as quirky as the song so it all just fits brilliantly. Seems to be so much more of a natural follow-on from HDL than any of her songs that actually followed HDL (if you get what I mean !?). #1 worldwide with possible exception of the States (not sure how they will receive Dizzee ?).

No affect on Voice Within which I thought there might be. They keep playing bits of it, mainly the intro and particularly whenever Rebecca Ferguson (the winner ?) is on. Perhaps its only us Christina stans/loons who recognise it :)

^ If you buy 3 tracks as singles then buy the remaining tracks individually to make up the album then to my knowledge those sales count individually agaisnt each track (same as if you cherry picked a few favourite tracks). If instead you subsequently buy the album as a whole then that counts as an album sale and the 3 original single sales stay as single sales as you've effectively brought 2 copies of those 3 tracks. This is how I believe it works but if anyone knows different ?

Because singing is defined by an artists vocal ability. But I think I see where you are coming from. the best artist is not defined only by vocal abilty. to be the best artist then a lot of other factors are equally as important (as long as they can at least sing in tune !!) such as stage presence, personality, looks, invention and innovation........... the list goes on. this is why GaGa is likely to win this poll. She is not the best vocally (by quite a way) and she is not the best looking and her songs are nothing revolutionary. but she has enough in her weaker areas to support her very strong areas of innovation, uniqueness and idividuallity (in this generation), personality and an apparent in-built ability to entertain making her the hugely popular talent she is today.

Shaki should squeeze top ten but I don't think kylie will get top 3, may not even squeeze top 5 but it'll be close I think i think top 3 (in any order) will be P!nk, Gaga and Beyonce perm any 2 from Alicia, Kylie, Britney and Leona for the other 2 places in top 5 I really want Alicia top 5 :wub:
