Arctic Monkey's version of 'Come Together' is currently much higher on the iTunes chart after less than 24 hours (no.15), although it's closely followed by Underworld's 'Caliban's Dream' (No. 17). The latter is a very impressive piece of music. I wonder if/where tracks from the opening ceremony will chart tomorrow?

Maybe we should turn this discussion on its head, and discuss which artists have had a Greatest Hits compilation out that didn't have enough material to warrant one? Any suggestions?

They've probably all been mentioned by now, but the seemingly non-existent ones from the recent OCC top selling UK singles artists charts are: 10 RIHANNA 28 LADY GAGA 32 THE BLACK EYED PEAS 36 BEYONCE 49 DAVID GUETTA 55 KATY PERRY 60 COLDPLAY I'm also interested to understand if 'greatest hits' / 'best of' collections are now becoming less relevant in the download era, or do music buyers actually want a physical CD that contains singles that they may have primarily downloaded?

  7. It's a shame that the weather / condition of Hyde Park meant that the Hit Factory Live concert was cancelled. It was also a pity that the article gave no further indication of how close to the magic million mark 'Especially For You' was. Obviously the concert cancellation has been all over the news over the last couple of days, but even that extra publicity hasn't been enough to provide a return to the iTunes top 1000 for Kylie and Jason's 1988 duet.

There's just a couple of days left to vote - hopefully a few more forum members will before the deadline. I'm looking forward to seeing the results.

    It looks like you've added positions 2- 5 (25 - 18 pts) twice!

  12. It's up another 6 to 32 on the UK radio airplay chart. Progress . . . . but slow. Linky
  13. UK Airplay is starting to pick up . . . . . a bit! 38 (LW 83) + 45 Timebomb Kylie Minogue [20.40m impacts; 677 plays] Link: UK Airplay Top 40 It still needs another sharp climb next week, but with the track dropping out of this week's Top 40 could it already be too late?
  14. That's for the explanation - that's quite a bizarre and arbitrary set of rules to use. It was also interesting to see David Guetta appearing towards the lower end of the list (albeit with 5m+ sales.) In reality he is just producing songs for featured singers that under many other circumstances would be credited to the singers themselves.
  15. According to OCC, these are the sales totals for the top 12. 01 THE BEATLES 21.9m 02 ELVIS PRESLEY 21.6m 03 CLIFF RICHARD 21.5m 04 MADONNA 17.6m 05 MICHAEL JACKSON 15.3m 06 ELTON JOHN 14.8m 07 QUEEN 12.6m 08 ABBA 11.2m 09 DAVID BOWIE 10.6m 10 RIHANNA 10.4m 11 PAUL McCARTNEY 10.2m 12 KYLIE MINOGUE 10.1m It would be interesting to know exactly how duets / featured artist credits are treated.

Over 10% of respondents so far think it will be Number 1 :o
  17. Rihanna (but I'm more interested in the 3rd / 4th place play-off  )
  18. Kylie Minogue Madonna
  19. Whitney Houston Rihanna Britney Spears Kelly Clarkson Madonna Mariah Carey Shakira Kylie Minogue [Edit:- whoops - I only read the first page, and didn't realise that it was too late to vote]
  20. Donna Summer Shania Twain Jamelia Alicia Keys Emma Bunton Katy Perry Rihanna Diana Ross Bjork Natalie Imbruglia Christina Aguilera Belinda Carlise Madonna Dannii Minogue Gabrielle Tina Turner
  21. I don't think there's much truth in this story. However, if anyone wants to see some real dirt dished on Rod Stewart, then they would be best to re-check on the blatant hyping of his single 'Tom Traubert's Blues' into the top 10 in 1992.
  22. Kylie's download sales sure are impressive this week! (And I have absolutely no idea how it works chart-wise.)
  23. Did 'Essential Mixes' not make it to the album top 200???? :o
  24. According to everyhit.com: Longest Continuous Run in The Top 40 by an Artist: 135 weeks by Elvis Presley. From July 1960 ("A Mess Of Blues") until Feb 1963 (when "Return To Sender" left the chart) - a total of 12 hits. It's just a shame that this site no longer seems to be adding contemporary data.
  25. Could 2011 see a record number of 500k+ sellers in a single calendar year? I think that there have been 20 in a couple of years in the late 1990s, when CD singles were at their peak (remember those? ), but this year has the potential for there to be perhaps even more than that?
