Don´t Believe in Love out in itunes!!!
Yes, it´s just the pre-order, but in itunes pre-orders compete with already released items... And right it´s up to #18 on itunes USA Top Albums, which is even more amazing!!!!!!!!!! This means that an album that is only released in november, is already selling enough pre-order to be in Top 20 along with currently available albums!!!! Plus, the single is doing fine also: it´s risen from #44 (yesterday) to # 28 in the Pop Songs, and debuted at #80 in the overall singles!!!!!!!!!

What has happened to British music in 2008?
Well, first of all, I think you should forget about the singles... It´s not representative of what´s important to the music industry, really. Amy Winehouse is a MASSIVE british act but she never really had a massive single. Albums make much more money then singles, and the measure of sucess of a song is not only the place it charts, but how much it does to increase the parent album sales. I´d say an average Amy Winehouse/Duffy single that charts between #11-20, but makes their albums to sell for months and months in the Top 10, is more of a sucess then an average Sugababes/Girls Aloud single that goes Top 5, but strugle to make the album past the 400k mark overall. Album sales is what counts. And so far, british artists have been doing great. Plus, this year 2 british acts topped the USA Top 100 (Leona and Coldplay), something that didn´t happen since ages...

November 3rd - Super Week of 2008?
Well, Gimme More didn´t just "nearly" missed the top spot... In fact, it was #3 and not #2, and fell out of the Top 10 in an instant.

November 3rd - Super Week of 2008?
They both flopped. Janet a lot worse. But anyway, if Janet was releasing a new song I wouldn´t even predict Top 20 for it. I suppose you imagine I´m a Janet fan because of my nickname, but I´m not anyway... That doesn´t move from the fact that Britney´s last album bombed and she sells less and less with each album. Look at this: Baby One More Time: Some 20 million copies worldwide? Oops I Did It Again: 15 million maybe? Britney: 8-9 million at best... In the Zone: 6 or 7 million maximum GH:MP - I´ve heard it sold 4 million Blackout: dunno if it shipped 2 million worldwide, but real sales must be even lower!!!! Where´s she going to? I know that artists can have a recover after a big flop, but that´s exception and not a rule! So Britney´s sucess is far from certain, it´s just anybody´s guess.

November 3rd - Super Week of 2008?
Wow, really? That´s like winning Big Brother. Sorry, I can´t see any massive effect coming from this, unless the song is completely brilliant. I don´t think anyone would buy her song just because she won a contest which wasn´t even about music.

November 3rd - Super Week of 2008?
I didn´t say it´s "wrong" to like them, I just say polls on this forum doesn´t reflect the entirity of the UK music buyng public, since people who like adult music is less likely to join pop forums, and so on... If this forum was a measure of UK popularity, then both Sugababes and Girls Aloud would have bestselling albums, but in reality none of their THOUSANDS of albums they release every year has EVER reached the million mark in UK, which isn´t so hard considering loads of albums pass the million mark every year, and sometimes even the 2, 3 million mark. I think they´re being overrated when everytime a female pop princess releases a new song and everyone on the poll says it´s a surefire #1 hit, and sometimes it won´t even go Top 5.

Girls Aloud - The Promise
Dido releases her album on Nov. 4th, isn´t that the same week as The Promise is released? She will focus on the album but sometimes when album sales are big, that can have an effect on the single too. That´s how Coldplay managed to put "Viva La Vida" at #1 on the singles chart even before it had a music video or much airplay (cause at the time radios were still playng Violet Hill). And they didn´t even have a physical release of that song. Dido WILL have a physical release of the single, and will have a video on rotation too, so I think she has some chances. Her new single has just gone to #1 in the itunes in the countries where it´s already released (italy and spain) without any promo, so there´s no reason why she can´t do the same in the UK when it´s out!

November 3rd - Super Week of 2008?
Sorry, I just googled Alesha´s name and found out in wikipedia she was a member of girl band Mis-teeq (that I remember), which was hardly a massive act anyway. I found out also that she tried a solo career and her first 2 singles flopped so miserably that the solo album release was cancelled. And that was in 2006. So what is the fuss about her comeback since she is hardly a high-profile name?

November 3rd - Super Week of 2008?
Sorry, I do not live in the UK and I swear I had not heard of this woman until this topic. Is she the winner of a reality TV show??? I follow the UK charts quite regularly and I don´t remember EVER seeing this name high in either singles or albums charts...
-
Girls Aloud - The Promise
Why is the audience so little? I thought this show was watched by millions? At least in USA, when act performs on their VMA´s it can make it´s sales skyrocket. But anyway, that week Dido will be releasing her new album so she will be all over, and I wouldn´t rule out the EMA´s and many talk shows in the UK, so I think she is in the battle too...
-
Girls Aloud - The Promise
What about who´s performing on the MTV EMA´s that take place in Liverpool that week???? I´d say those have big chances of a #1. Whoever performs there, I´m sure it won´t be either Sugas or GA since they´re nobodies in the rest of the continent. So yay, whoever is doing promo at the moment has chances of being # 1 then...
-
November 3rd - Super Week of 2008?
Once again the battle is supposed to be determined by who gets the better TV oportunity... The charts are not THAT predictable, please... Don´t forget that this is also the week when the MTV EMA`s take place in Liverpool, and being the biggest female all over Europe and releasing an album that week, I wouldn´t be surprised if Dido performed there. Her public crosses all genders, races, ages, etc, so she´s going to be bigger then those who only appeal to the strict young/gay audience.

November 3rd - Super Week of 2008?
Well, Dido is # 1 on italian itunes with no airplay and no music video, before any promotion starts. When she releases it in her homeland, after a video is being aired and full promotion is on, she will be massive no matter how much it disgusts her haters... it´s a given! Pop barbies are too overrated in this forum. They always get much higher predicitons then they deserve. You´d think after so much massive airplay the Sugababes would have debuted at #1 on downloads alone, instead of a weak # 8? Barbies are really TOO overrated here... Same with Christina. She wasn´t massive with her last album, when she was coming from the sucess of Stripped! Now, her sucess and hype have pretty much faded away and she is not the pop princess she once was. I can´t see that mediocre track being even Top 5. Same with Beyonce, no matter what. And Britney? Why is there any reason she should be that massive? She is coming from a massive flop album, none of her past singles have been # 1, and it´s a proven fact her sucess gets smaller and smaller after each release. Obviously her new single has pleased all "barbie" fans out there, but they hardly mean the majority of the countries population. Think that the average people are not keen on her anymore. I wouldn´t be surprised by Dido being # 1 by a second week as she is recognized by a much larger portion of the population then those singers with a limited teenager fanclub. I wouldn´t rule the Killers being #1 on downloads alone either. A few months ago nobody would expect the Sugabarbies to debut at # 8 while Kings Of Lean has week after week at the top, and an album opening with 220k sold. "Pop princesses" are always overrated in this board, but "serious" music always outperforms it with much less hype. I don´t think the new Dido track is boring at all (in fact, people who say that haven´t even heard it...), but still everyone also said all her other songs are "boring" and that didn´t keep her last album to sell 2.9 million copies in UK, so go ahead, being boring doesn´t keep her from outperforming all these wannabes.,.. Plus, Alesha? Who da hell is this? You can´t be serious... :D

# 1 in italian itunes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! # 2 in Spain Imagine what will happen when it´s out elsewhere, after the video and promotion is done!!!!!!!!!
-
Don´t Believe In Love in itunes Spain and Italy!!!
It has gone up to # 1 in Italy already... and remains at #2 in Spain! Can you imagine what will happen after the video and full promotion starts? When she release it in UK, the place where she´s most sucessful??? This song is so gonna wipe the floor...

Predict: Dido - Don´t Believe In Love
This song has shoot at #2 in itunes Spain and Italy without any advert, or any promo. The music video was not even released, and Spain and Italy were never among her biggest markets (her last album was "only" Top 5 there, when it was #1 in some 30 other countries...). So I guess this has big chances of going # 1 in UK when it´s promoted and after a video is released!!! People have been underestimating the potential of this song!
-
Don´t Believe In Love in itunes Spain and Italy!!!
Right now it´s up to #2 in both Spain and Italy. What amazes me the most is, not only the song is totally unpromoted, it doesn´t even have an advert in the itunes page, but also Spain and Italy were never among her main markets. I mean, her last album was "only" Top 5 there, when it got to # 1 in some 30 countries. If it can shoot to #2 there under these circumstances, then there´s nothing that keep her from having a #1 in other markets with proper promotion!
-
Don´t Believe In Love in itunes Spain and Italy!!!
If you live on Spain or Italy, then download her new single on itunes! It has just been made available before any promotion is done, and it´s already # 2 in Italy and # 3 in Spain!!! Massive!

Album chart #1 predictions
But didn´t Hot Fuss sold past the 2 million mark? I´m sure Sam´s Town is way beyond that... What I say is the tendency is, once an artist becomes huge, it´s sales star to gradually decline, and that´s what happens with MOST artist, for example James Blunt from "Back To Bedlam" to "All The Lost Souls", as Keane, Scissor Sisters, Killers, etc. True that their 2nd albums were sucessful, past the million mark, but still they tend to decline from a half to just 1/3 of the previous album. Dido was a rare exception since she had 2 consecutive 3-million-sellers. Sure that she will face a decline sometime, like every artist does, but this decline tends to be gradual. If she sells just 1/3rd of what she sold with her previous album, I think that will be enough to easily beat the Killers, since they must also face some decline in sales...

It´s amazing that the song is already selling in itunes since it was supposed to be release only 1 week before the album, so late october. Plus, it still doesn´t have much airplay or promo, and the video was not released. I´m sure this song will be a huge hit once promotion kicks in...

Don't believe in love
Acording to didomusic.com she has just finished shooting it, and the video will be airead in the begining of october.
