Earlier in the week I had continued to listen to Bruce Springsteen's live shows from 2024 and having finally picked up my Now Yearbook 89 on Monday I finally got to listen to it on Saturday. Also during the week was looking through my favourite albums playlist on Spotify and picked out Lewis Capaldi and OMD. Also on the singles chart Shake It To The Max makes it's debut, having grown on me over the last couple of weeks. And a couple of Springsteen tracks enter this week after featuring on his new live EP recorded earlier in the month during a show in Manchester.

On the singles chart there's a new number one - I love the latest one from Amy Macdonald and the Springsteen inspired intro helps it. Some Days has been around for a good while but has never been able to break into the Top 50 until now. Dave has a habit of announcing positions way ahead of when he needs to. For example straight away he announced that Sports Car was back in at 39 and then saying "before that here's Drake who falls a place to 40". Again it looked like he had forgotten to do the rundown between 40 and 31 but it appeared just after Boyzlife which was mistakenly announced as a new entry.

I also booked to see her in Belfast on her tour at the end of the year and as I hadn't listened to her older stuff for a while I dug out her back catalogue albums. The Dave Lalor album charts by accident in a way. During a discussion about the Irish charts one of his singles was mentioned and I had to hunt it down on Spotify. In the early 90s he released 3 singles in a row which were all medleys and these all appeared on the album at number 8 as well as charting individually. Although the album title suggests his career started in 1990 he was around before that - in fact he entered the Irish Eurovision selection contest back in 1989 when he finished 7th out of 8 entries. This week sees the arrival of a few curent chart hits and a return for a couple of others. Finally this week saw the release of a 25th anniversary remix of Maniac 2000 which I only discovered on Friday.

As mentioned last week "Deputy" Dave McCalmond has taken over and there have been a couple of minor differences in presentation style from Stuart Robinson. This week I was unable to listen to the full show as normal as I was heading to a concert in Belfast. I did hear most of the first hour as I was driving, and I've heard parts of the remainder of the show today while recording it from the station's catch up service. The first thing I noticed is that Dave (unlike his predecessors) mentions the movements of all the songs before or after playing them. Stuart Robinson did mention some but even when he did they weren't always right. The recaps are also still there for the full chart although to begin with I thought they might have been dropped as they went straight into the Boyzlife new entry at 30 after playing Shake It To The Max. Thankfully that was corrected before Billie Eilish was played. Dave has also gone back to doing the Top 10 recap before the number 2 rather than after it. A couple of oddities this week - After Birds of A Feather was played a remix of Counting Stars by One Republic was played but at no point did Dave make any reference to it. And building up to the future breakers he said that he would be playing Ed Sheeran, Lisa McHugh and the new Maroon 5 song but only the first 2 were actually played. Stuart also mentioned that he was focusing on his music career at the moment which is I presume why there was a change of presenter. This week Stuart also referred to another chart show - the Country Chart which appears on sister station Downtown Country every Saturday in the same timeslot as the NI Hit 40. It is presented by a guy who has previously been a stand in on the main chart show - Deputy Dave. And from next week he will be the new regular presenter on the NI Hit 40 show too.

Problem solved! And it was actually really simple.... I post the charts in three forums. As I said with the other 2 it is a matter of copying from the notepad and pasting directly to them. What I have just realised is that if I then copy the content of one of these and paste that into the thread here it is formatted as I want it to appear. It only takes a few seconds.

On Saturday 5th April I decided at the last minute to go to see a local Fleetwood Mac tribute band. They're not a band I would usually listen to but I thought I would give it a go! Had a great night and listened to Tango In The Night during the week. The Saw Doctors had a new single out - a new version of the title track of their 3rd album which features the RTE Concert Orchestra. As well as that album I played the later Songs From Sun Street album as well. Clem Burke from Blondie died during the week and I dug out the Pollinator album as well as listening to some of the hit singles. Saturday was Record Store Day and unlike previous years I got a chance to listen to all my purchases as soon as I got home. Madness and The Boomtown Rats both make the album Top 10 while one of the tracks on the single by The Killers and Bruce Springsteen makes the singles chart. Alan Fletcher (aka Dr Karl Kennedy from Neighbours) announced some shows in Ireland this week and I booked to see him in Belfast. His tribute to screen wife Susan makes the singles chart as a result. Finally I have a trial to Amazon Prime at the momen. While looking for something to watch one night I discovered Weird: The Al Yankovic Story and a couple of his tracks enter the chart as a result.
