Over at UKPopCharts, we now record the Hit40UK chart each week to ensure the "Comparison" chart can be published, which is useful when their web site isn't updated bearing in mind "Music Week" (the only other source) didn't reflect the chart broadcast for last year's Christmas Chart (the last time the Hit40UK web site wasn't updated). As an experiment, for the next few weeks, we're putting together the 4 recaps as one MP3 file and if this proves useful, we'll continue to make available (apologies in advance for some of the links!!!). The following link will take you to the appropriate section of the Forum. UKPopCharts.co.uk Don't forget, in addition to the Weekly "Comparison" chart, "Retro charts" for the current week covering the past 26 years can be requested from the UKPopCharts web site. :)

Though the above links no longer work, any of UKPopCharts' charts from 1980 to the present day can be requested via the following link: UKPopCharts/Your Chart :)

UKPopCharts is doing it's usual for the 12 days of Christmas, by making every chart of the year available to anyone who missed a chart or two! UKPopCharts/PopCharts2007 But hurry, as this will be removed on 6th January 2008, which is the 12th day of Christmas! Also of interest might be 2007's Chart Comparison, which is available at the main web site until Sunday evening, when it will become available by e-mail request. Top 40 of 2007 Happy New Year everyone. :)

A more detailed version of the above was posted on The Guardian's web site (mediaguardian.co.uk) on 27th September 2007, which suggets a "listen again" facility will be available from 2008. "The commercial radio rival to the BBC's Top 40 is to be taken over by Capital parent GCap, ending a four-year association with independent production company Somethin' Else. GCap will take over the running of the Sunday afternoon chart show Hit 40 UK from the beginning of next year. The loss is a blow to the independent production sector, as the Hit 40 UK contract is one of the most prestigious and valuable in the market. There will also be some cost savings by taking the chart in-house. The show, which is hosted by Capital DJ Lucio and broadcast on 118 commercial stations around the country, will be overseen by the GCap programme director for content and digital, Pete Simmons. Somethin Else' will continue to produce commercial radio dance chart, Fresh 40, although there will be greater involvement from Kiss parent Emap. "Somethin' Else have done an amazing job, but at the moment we are not capitalising on GCap's expertise and resource," said the GCap head of network sales, Kirk Vallis. "There are so many different forms of music in the chart, no one has the level of resource in all the different music genres as GCap, with stations such as Choice, Xfm and Classic FM. "If someone comes in for an interview [with Capital breakfast DJ] Johnny Vaughan then the producer should be there grabbing an interview for Hit 40 UK. "It is all about producing the best show, and under GCap it can be at its best." Mr Simmons, who joined GCap from Heart earlier this year, is currently putting together a team to work on the show, which will be made available to "listen again" on the web for the first time next year. There is also expected to be a change of ownership of the chart, which is currently run by Hit 40 UK Ltd with representatives from GCap, Emap and Global on its board. It is responsible for the Hit 40, Fresh 40 and another commercial radio chart, the A List. Gcap and Emap are expected to take over the Hit 40 chart, while Global concentrates on the A List, which runs on its Heart network of stations. Hit 40 UK Ltd is expected to be folded into the commercial radio representative, the Radio Centre. Mr Vallis said there were no plans to change the presenter of the Hit 40 UK chart. "Lucio is doing a great job," he said. Hit 40 UK has a reach of 1.5 million adults, and 2 million people when children over the age of four are taken into account. Earlier this week UBC Media's commercial sales division won the contract to sell the A-List and the Fresh 40. Hit 40 UK's sales will continue to be overseen by GCap. Prior to Somethin' Else taking over the show at the end of 2003, the Hit 40 UK was made by Unique Productions for a decade. It was previously known as the Pepsi Chart." The "Hit40UK" chart will be recorded every Sunday from 30th December 2007, so if the new web site producers aren't as reliable as "Somethin' Else" (who did a great job until 16th December 2007), UKPopCharts will still be able to deliver its weekly Chart Comparison (as broadcast). :)

For those of you interested in the "Hit40UK Chart", remember if the Hit40UK site hasn't been updated, you can always view the "as broadcast" chart where it is "compared" with the Official chart at: UKPopCharts.co.uk Capital Radio will be running the Hit40UK web site "in house" from 1st January 2008, which explains the missing Christmas chart this week. The last time Capital did this a few years ago there were a number of missing weeks, so give UKPopCharts a try {we've been on the web since March 2002!}. Although placings may look jumbled because of the comparison, they are all there. "Music Week" must have been at the sherry when they compiled their chart this week as it is nothing like the chart broadcast! Merry Christmas. :cheer:
