The initial presentation of the "new" ET20 in April 2009 was reasonably accurate and more representative of the continents biggest hits and I believe is the only way it was better than the original ET20 (1991-2009) at that time. However I think that the flow of the chart, the continuity as well as it's consistency is equally as important when compiling the European Top 20. I wouldn't mind strange links or awkward chart-runs ocassionally but they must remain within acceptable constraints. The "new" ET20 has been very week in this area and now in addition to that the European hits are not quite accurately represnted in the countdown which is why I still prefer the original chart to this "new" one. Let me illustrate my view-point by reviewing last years ET20. This chart has shocked us on many occasions throught the year primarily because of it's incessant incontinuity. The year began with a very awkward chart on January 25th with inappropriate entries; a direct copy of the Billboard Hot 100 (and MTV denying it after confrontation) in April; the removal of all Top 3 hits in a chart in August, the cancellation of a chart due to the EMAs in November, the entry of an unsuccessful song at the top of the chart which fails the chart the week after (December) etc. These are a few examples of what makes this version of the ET20 lose value in my opinion. I would like to see the following changes in the chart in the future: 1) The chart-runs and links for the different songs must become more sensible and an awkward chart run shouldn't at worst exceed the domains of the original ET20 (1991-2009). 2) The chart flow needs improvement and this can be attained when the chart-runs and links have become more appropriate so that it doesn't feel like the weekly charts are being compiled by different people on a week-to-week basis. When this is fixed the major incontinuity which this chart has suffered from over the course of last year will be eliminated. 3) The chart needs more appropriate entries and in the right positions on the countdown. I wouldn't mind less successful songs charting but shouldn't be anywhere near the top parts of the chart or specifically the No. 1. However songs that haven't preformed anywhere in Europe should be excluded from the countdown completely. 4) Overall compilation of the weekly charts shouldn't be based on any other existent chart but rather be independently compiled by MTV themselves (and I know they have the resources to do so). When this is fixed then the consistency of the chart will be restored.

There is something that hasen't ever been made clear to me so I thought I'd just ask you directly. Which chart do you prefer - this ET20 or the original ET20 (1991-2009)?

No Doubt is an example. The first single released from the "Tragic Kingdom" album of 1996 was actually "Just A Girl" but entered the ET20 by replacing the second single "Don´t Speak". That was obviously because "Just A Girl" was bigger upon its re-release after the hit "Don´t Speak". In Marlon's case: I don't understand why "Riding Home" was charting in the first place. It's not really doing anything anywhere in Europe...

Why is the USA not included?

This is the European Top 20, the version we have from 89 - 90, and Vaya Con Dios is probably a bubbler on this chart with "Puerto Rico". The end of this clip reveals that the chart is dated 890926 as Philippe Lafontaine with "Coeur de loup" enters the chart at No. 17 climbing from No. 28 (not 29 as it says in my earlier post).
