I`m with you on this. Although this point has been adressed by more than one person, I´m more moved by Londonbeat`s absence on the countdown in that I didn`t even realise that it was popular at exactly this time in 1990. "I´ve Been Thinking About You" was on this countdown for sure. We`ll have to wait and see if our new provider can top this edition.

2008-11-23 After missing the chart in 2000 with "Make It Right", Christian Falk debuts on the dfc at number 9 with "Dream On". This is a collaboration with Robyn whom the chart is familiar with at least with last years number-7 peaking "Handle Me". She had otherwise also missed the chart together with Kleerup in "With Every Heartbeat". As for the chart as a whole, "Infinity 2008" owns it for the 6th week running and thats the same time "Pjanoo" has been number 2; a solid top two even this week. When "In And Out Of Love" falls to number 8, the tracks above it have moved up a notch. "What A Wonderful World" stays put at the lowest possible position and at number 9 we`re back to were we started...

Pink abruptly becomes the queen of our chart at least considering her 1-spot slip last week. However, Pink taking gold wasn`t a complete surprise considering her success in the charts across Europe but also the fact that she usually has strong comebacks for each album. Her longest stay at the top is 4 weeks with "Get The Party Started" (2001). Coldplay settle for number 2 and we note a tangential record for "Viva La Vida" and "Speed Of Sound" (2005), also 4 weeks. This band has 1 hit less than Pink on this chart altogether. Pink`s throne may be threatened by one of the 4 new entries, to be more specific, Britney Spears. If Britney Spears tops this countdown she will have 11 hits, only 1 less than Madonna who has had the most number 1`s. She has topped this countdown 12 times, or at least 12 times considering that she must have topped the chart before 1991. If we see her latest song in the next edition of Euro Top 20 then she will have had her longest stay in it; a stay of 19 weeks. I spoke about 4 new titles on the countdown, the highest coming from the Guru Josh Project`s "Infinity 2008" at number 12. This could be Josh`s second time on the chart considering his success with the same song in 1990. Britney`s "Womanizer" goes in at number 14 and at number 17 we have The Killers entering with "Human". They peaked at number 8 with "When You Were Young" in 2006 so the bar isn`t set that high for them unlike Britney´s 7-week chart topper "Baby One More Time" (1999). T.I. replaces himself at number 19 together with Rihanna in "Live Your Life". There is also a lot of pressure on Rihanna as we watch to see if she can make a 9th hit with this 10th single. All the four songs that left the chart had a rather short visit.

2008-11-16 Armand Van Helden enter the chart at number 7 with "Shake That Ass". They topped the dfc countdown in spring 1999 with their first single "You Don`t Know Me" but this is not their only number 1. They also reigned the chart for one week in 2004 with "Hear My Name". Can they make a third number 1? Although unlikely, only time can tell...

In regards to Xylem`s question, the provider says: I understand that the chart was much longer than the one that was aired. All those high jumps disappeared sometime in 1991 or 1992 (along with all non-english titles ), so I suppose that either they decided to shorten it, or that the method that it was being compiled changed altogether.

I`m not sure if it`s the real European Top 20 chart and about the songs climbing from a top 50, I have no idea perhaps it was an extended chart back then or something...no idea. I have forwarded your question to the provider.

I`ve found some older European Top 20 charts from 1989 and 1990 I´m not sure if this is the real European Top 20 but at least it is something we can look at for now. 2008-11-09 This weeks chart contains one new entry as usual and this time it`s the German techno band, Scooter together with Status Quo in "Jump That Rock". Scooter`s last appearence in our chart was earlier this year with "And No Matches" which peaked at number 6 in our weekly top 10. They are otherwise known for their dance hits "Move Your Ass" 1995, "Weekend!" and "The Night" 2003. In the chart, Guru Josh Project spend their forth week at the top of the chart. Eric Prydz is still at number 2 and we should be alarmed about his 158 accumulated points so far. Given his expected presence in next weeks chart his points are likely to be the second highest points ever. The highest climber this week is Michael Mind with "Show Me Love" who very suddenly jumps into the top 3. There is also a sudden fall for Ben DJ`s "Me & Myself" to number 8 out of the top 3. That spells this weeks biggest fall. David Guetta who sinks to number 10 in his 20th week is probably going to leave the chart without breaking the record for the longest chart survival - a record set to 21 weeks by Funkerman`s "Speed Up". But if he does exit the chart he will at least walk away with the highest points. So, will David challenge Funkerman in the next show? Until next week...

Coldplay are still number 1 with “Viva La Vida”, now for the third week running. Regarding future number 1`s, I agree with tsetsi81 that Pink will be the next chart topper and it’s almost certain that Britney’s “Womanizer” could top the chart later on. There is only one new entry and it enters almost at the bottom of the chart at number 19. It’s “Spotlight” by Jennifer Hudson. Madcon advances three spaces into the top 10 with “Beggin´”. As known, this song has entered this chart very late but that’s usually typical of songs from the Nordic countries. Most of them are only released in other European countries after they`ve become extremely successful in this region. “Beggin`” was released this time last year and topped the Norwegian chart for several weeks and only after this magnificent success displayed a good market for the song elsewhere was it released in other parts of Europe. Some other past examples of this include Bomfunk Mcs “Freestyler” from 1999 and charted in 2000, The Cardigans “Lovefool” from 1996 charting in 1997, The Rasmus “In The Shadows” from early 2003 but charting late 2003, Eagle Eye Cherry “Save Tonight” from 1997 yet charting 1998 etc. It’s been a long while since we had re-entries in our chart. The last one we had entered 12 weeks ago and is actually still in the chart today; “No Air” by Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown. When a song re-enters the chart it usually performs better or worse than the first time in such a way that one can easily differentiate between the performances. These must obviously be significant performances. So without considering examples such as that of Justice with “D.A.N.C.E.” from last year, the song “No Air” in particular has some kind of symmetry between the two times. The first time, “No Air” charted for 11 weeks and peaked at number 7. It collected 105 frequency points. The second time it charts for 12 weeks and peaks at number 7 again and has accumulated 118 points so far given that it’s on its way out. The notion of longevity has been well fulfilled this year and this shows clearly on Markus Tolksdorf`s chart of the year 2008. With the help of artists spending such a long time in the chart, the entire top 20 consists of songs with more than 200 points and two more songs will surely collect these points; Coldplay and Rihanna. That’s at least 22 songs with more than 200 points and this is the first time such a distribution of points happens. There is too much talk about songs that are doing well in Europe and songs doing well in specific countries. Just out of curiosity, were exactly can you find these charts?

2008-11-02 Yves Larock is this weeks only new entry in at number 10 with "Say Yeah!". He should be remembered for his hit last year "Rise Up" which peaked at number 4 in out top 10. The top 2 hasen`t changed for the last three weeks since Guru Josh Project top the chart for the third week running whilst Eric Prydz remains at number 2. David Guetta`s hit "Tomorrow Can Wait" has now collected 180 points and that is infact the highest amount of frequency points ever accumulated from the top 10.

2008-10-26 This year couldn`t end without Martin Solveig visiting our chart. Since 2004 the french music house DJ has had one single in the top 10 each year. He topped the countdown for two weeks with "Rocking Music" in 2004, "Everybody" in 2005 and "Jealousy" in 2006. Despite his number-9-peaking song last year with "Rejection", his already entered higher with "I Want You" at number 7.

2008-10-19 "Show Me Love"...where have we heard this song before? Well in 1993, Robin S had a dance hit with it and DJ Tonka mixed it in 2002 under her name and it peaked at number 9 on the top 20 dfc. Now Michael Mind covers this song and enters at just number 9. We are familiar with Michael from his minor hit last year together with the Manfred Mann`s Earth Band; "Blinded By The Light" which peaked at 4. There is a new number 1 this week as Guru Josh finally replaces Eric`s biggest dance hit "Pjanoo" at the throne.

This is the least amount of points collected by any chart-topper this year except for the current one (who will surely collect more points) and this has never happened before. So, who will top the chart after Rihanna? I think Coldplay will be number 1 as soon as next week. We`ve frequently talked about the longest chart survival for artists peaking at a specific number. Jason Mraz and his 24 weeks makes a tangential record with The Rasmus for peaking at 6 and it`s almost clear that Jason will set this record on his own. Jordin Sparks & Chris Brown continues to break the record for peaking at number 7 by climbing to number 7 in their 20th week. And now this week, The Pussycat Dolls breaks the same kind of record for artists peaking at number 16 - 9 weeks. This time last year, Gym Class Heroes left the chart with there biggest hit "Clothes Off" peaking at number 7. Now they creep into the chart at number 19 together with The-Dream in "Cookie Jar". There first hit "Cupid´s Chokehold" peaked at number 11. They should perhaps keep having titles beginning with "C" as they seem to be the ones charting. Regarding Bobiloko`s comments, Ulrika used to fill in for Eden in 1999. Joanne Coleman`s first chart was 2000 September 13 were Spiller`s "Groovejet" entered at number 16. Charlotte´s first chart was 2005 November 19 were Madonna entered with "Hung Up" at number 14. 2008-10-12 I´m not going to be able to count these artists on my fingers soon; T2, H Two O, Tiao Cruz, Wideboys, Wiley, DJ Q & Mc Bonez, Dizzee Rascal, Skepta and Platnum who slides down 4 spaces to number 8 and becomes neighbours with this weeks only new entry at number 9 by yet again one of these UK garage artists found on R `n`B charts...it`s Delinquent featuring Kcat in "I Got U". We`ll wish these two Good Luck for the moment considering that the last few of it`s kind haven`t topped the chart. Eric Prydz is still well parked at number 1 whilst Guru Josh keeps a sharp eye on the gold. Axwell moves back into the top 3 and knocks David Guetta`s hit "Tomorrow Can Wait" to number 4 and David; in his 16th week collects 163 frequency points, only one point less than the record for frequency points on the top 10 scored last year by Bob Sinclar`s "Sound Of Freedom" in 18 weeks. But what kind of points are we talking about? Yes, the pointing system is similar to that of Markus Tolksdorf but only modified for the top 10...so number 10 is worth 1 point, number 9 is worth 2 points...#3 - 8 points, #2 - 10 points and #1 - 13 points.

Actually the coca-cola graphics of MTV`s European Top 20 started in 1994. Before then they had a blue background with white numbers rolling down the side of the screen. I think it was the worst graphics they`ve ever had for the show not to mention it`s sound effects and it is was nice that something was done about it. The logo for the show then can be seen in the following link at time 0:06 when Sting`s "It´s Probably Me" was on the chart, 1992: The graphics had then been changed in late 1993 to what I remember as a colourful and cheerful set of numbers around the screen (or something like that...) and the logo for this can be seen in the link below at time 0:14 when Maxx "No More (I Can`t Stand It)" was number 13, 1994: http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/searc...-stand-it_music In 1994/1995 these graphics were modified to the Coca-Cola European Top 20, my favourite graphics for the show. NUMBER 1 SPOT I think Katy Perry may be spending her last week at the top in order to collect five weeks and then Rihanna`s "Disturbia" will top the chart for one week and then Coldplay will take over for possibly a stay longer than that of "Violet Hill". Thats my prediction.

2008-10-05 This weeks new entry sneaks in at 10 and is from Steve Mac with "Paddy´s Revenge". Eric Prydz hasen`t moved from the top yet but a rather unusual move has occured in the chart as David Guetta bounces up into the top 3 after falling so heavily last week. This sort of move hasen`t happened in the top 10 and it`s consequences could be very interesting.

I think the chart would be better if it showed the number #1`s in each country in an hour.
