German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date Jan 15 As last year, a great start for Lady Gaga in 2010 as she rules both the singles and albums German charts this week. Thus Keri Hilson has to retreat to #2, as the wonderful "Bad Romance" quite deservingly becomes Gaga's third number one single in Germany, following the footsteps of "Paparazzi" and "Poker Face". The third position goes to former number one, Aura Dione's "I Will Love You Monday (365)". At number four we have another former chart topper in the face of Black Eyed Peas'"Meet Me Halfway". In other words - quite a movement on the top of the singles chart at the start of the new decade... The highest new entry (and actually the only one) belongs to electro-rap project Frauenarzt & Manny Marc at #12. "Disco Pogo" follows "Das geht ab" from last year, which slowly but persistently became a huge party hit in Germany and eventually reached a peak at #8. And as it is still played at every party event, I think it will not go away soon. Actually in its 34th week in the countdown, the song goes up a position to #22. The biggest leap in the chart can be observed by German band Jennifer Rostock, whose Twilight hit "Es tut wieder weh" jumps from 64 to 48. So the albums chart is once again occupied by Gaga, while the German Il Divo, or Adoro, jump with their second LP to #2 from #5. The third position is taken by the live album and DVD of Peter Fox, one of the best buys currently. The only new entry is at the very end, as the CD and DVD with the Viennese New Year Concert 2010 enters at 2010.

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 8.01.2010 In a move rarely seen in the German charts, Keri Hilson once again removes Aura Dione from the number one position after doing so two weeks ago. As I've already written "I Like" features in the soundtrack of German movie "Zweiohrküken" (or "Rabbit Without Ears 2"), which was the sixth biggest film in Germany last year. The soundtrack also jumps nine positions in the LP charts to reach #6 this week. So Aura Dione moves to #2, followed by the "Bad Romance" of Lady Gaga, which rises a position to three. Black Eyed Peas' "Meet Me Halfway" falls from #3 to #4, while Rihanna's "Russian Roulette" retains its fifth position. As it is not the busiest time of the year, we actually have no new entries this week. Further down the chart, however, DJ Oetzi & Nik P's "Ein Stern (der deinen Namen trägt)" makes its 101 week in the singles top 100 by jumping to #67 from #90. The single has been recently named the most successful song of the last decade in Germany. In the albums chart, Lady Gaga's "Fame" LP manages to take the leadership for the first time since its release back in December 2008. Perhaps its sales were boosted by the announcement that "Poker Face" is the most sold song of 2009... At the same time, "The E.N.D. (The Energy Never Dies)" of Black Eyed Peas soars from #16 to #4. The biggest new entry is the soundtrack to movie phenomenon "Avatar", composed by James Horner, at #50.

That's why I limited my comments :) And it is strange for Miley as it was on heavy rotation on VIVA.

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 01.01 After falling to number three last week, Aura Dione regains power over the German singles chart in what is usually one of the slowest charts of the year. So Keri Hilson has to retreat to number two with "I Like", while Black Eyed Peas fall to number three with former number one "Meet Me Halfway". No changes in the next four places occupied respectively by Lady Gaga with "Bad Romance", Rihanna with "Russian Roulette", Ich + Ich with former number one "Pflaster" and Culcha Candela with "Monsta". The highest new entry can be found as low as #40 and belongs to Max Mutzke. Winner of a talent show organised by TV star Stefan Raab, Max has a number one hit on his account with "Can't Wait Until Tonight" in 2004. "New Day" is the second single taken from Max' third album "Black Forest". In the albums chart, Robbie Williams' latest album manages to remove Ich + Ich from the number one position. The duo stayed on the top for five weeks. The only new entry in the top 100 is the debut album of Popstars winners Some & Any at #47. Simultaneously their single falls eleven places to #27.

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 25.12 Towards the close of the year we have another new number one in Germany. This time the honour goes to Keri Hilson, who so far has not been a big star in Germany, with "Return The Favor" being her most successful single in Germany as a lead singer. However, the inclusion of "I Like" in the soundtrack of German hit movie "Zweiohrküken", written and directed by Til Schweiger, has fuelled the sales of the song. The soundtrack has already produced a big hit in the face of OneRepublic's "Secrets". "I Like" is to feature in the re-released edition of Keri's solo album "In a Perfect World....". Some words are due to Ella Endlich, whose "Küss mich, halt mich, lieb mich" (kiss me, hold me, love me) jumps 15 places to reach #15 this week and to enter the top 20 for the first time since its release. Though as a name she is new to the chart, she has been here in the late 90s as Junia and her single hit "It's Funny" (reaching #17). You can see the video here As it is customary at this time of the year, the latest winners of the casting show Popstars storm the charts. The show has given us so far No Angels, Bro'sis, Monrose and Queensberry (the more successful ones) and Nu Pagadi, Overground and Room 2012 (the long-forgotten ones). This time around the idea of the show was to market a new duet coming in the face of Some and Any. They enter the singles chart at #16, a position at which it is hardly to be judged whether they will have a good career or not. More probably not... Further down the chart, it is good to see chart veterans Pet Shop Boys (at #35) and George Michael (at #37) once again being in the top 50. PSB have a hit earlier this year with "Love etc.", while Michael has been absent from the German charts in the last three years. He was last in the top ten with "Freeek!" seven years ago. This week's albums chart is once again dominated by Ich + Ich, with Alicia Keys' "The Element Of Freedom" being the only new entry in the top 50 at #15. And see ya in 2010! :cheer:

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 18.12 Another week and another new number one in Germany. This time Danish singer Aura Dione rises one position to the top spot, replacing Black Eyed Peas there. Having in mind that "I Will Love You Monday" reached only #20 in Denmark, it is clear that Aura has become much bigger star in Germany than in her native country. Not much going on in the top 20 of this week's chart, with Wham! entering the top 20 for yet another year with their Christmas classic "Last Christmas". At the same time the second single of Daniel Schuhamacher, the winner of DSDS not only missed the top 20 last week, but plummets 22-51 this time around... The biggest new hit comes in at by David Guetta and Estelle. "One Love", a wonderful dance track, misses the top 20 (especially in comparison to the #2 peak of "When Love Takes Over" and the #1 of "Sexy Chick") but at least manages not to be a flop as in the UK. Two years after the release of their latest album "Jazz ist anders", German band Die Aerzte release the fourth single taken from it. "HimmelblauPerfektBreit" actually combines three songs from the album and comes after the extremely catchy "Lasse redn". Unlike the previous single, the new one is only for those who are deeply fond of German music. Five places below the doctors enters the latest single from Robbie Williams. After hitting number one with "Bodies" few months ago, and proving he is a megastar in Germany, Williams' newest single somewhat struggles to set the charts on fire with its debut. Still, "You Know Me" is a strong ballad and has huge chances to advance in the following winter days. Good to see Mariah Carey's "I Want To Know What Love Is" making only #37. With an uninspired cover like this, I'm sure that Mariah has lost her mojo... The original of Foreigner reached #3 in 1984. Next up at #39 we have Depeche Mode with the third single taken from the "Sounds of the Universe" LP. "Fragile Tension" follows the #2 hit "Wrong" and the #25 peak of "Peace". Despite missing the top 20, the single once again shows that the guys have a strong fan base in Germany. Showing that the winning formula has faded away, the latest single of super producer Alex C with singer Y-ass has entered new at #41. The song is more or less the same as the project's biggest hits - number one "Du hast den schönsten Arsch der Welt" and #4 hit "Doktorspiele". And finally for the singles chart, "Love Long Distance" the follow-up Gossip's surprisingly ultra successful hit "Heavy Cross" crashes at #44. At the same time, the previous single advances once again, this week standing comfortably at #6. As long as the albums chart is concerned, Ich+Ich remain steady at the top, with Robbie rising again to #2. Unlike UK and USA, the Germans are not so crazy about Susan Boyle, so she has to be happy with entering at "only" #3.

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue Date 11.12.2009 It simply doesn't matter that the latest song of Black Eyed Peas is actually the third single taken from their latest album as "Meet Me Halfway" easily rises one place to take the crown in this week German singles charts. Thus it beats the #3 peak of previous singles "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling" and becomes the third number one single of BEP in Germany, next to "Where Is the Love?" and "Shut Up". This means that Ich + Ich have to withdraw to #4, while Danish star Aura Diona soars eight positions with "I Will Love You Monday" and takes the number two this week. Is the wonderful song going to be the next German number one? The highest new entry belongs to the star of 2009 - Lady GaGa and her latest hit "Bad Romance" which comes in at #3. So far, her greatest song, next to "Paparazzi", "Bad Romance" was always destined to be a huge hit as it is a new song from her reissued debut album and also had an awesome video. Is it strange that I don't like GaGa's first songs as much as her latest ones? "Bad Romance" has also the honour to be GaGa's fifth consecutive top ten single and also her third most successful apart from the number ones - "Poker Face" and "Paparazzi". From one big star to another at #6, where Timbaland returns with his latest effort "Morning After Dark". The song is great but it also benefits strongly from the guest appearance of Nelly Furtado, who is extremely popular in Germany. Counting only the singles in which Timbaland is credited as lead singer, only "Give It to Me" and "The Way I Are" have charted higher, at #3 and #5, respectively. And of course "Apologize", which hit number one in 2007. Following three top ten singles and one reaching #16, Pink's latest single "Don't Believe Me" comes in at #17. It is of course the fifth single taken from the "Funhouse" LP, so the entry in the top 20 is more than welcome. Now it's time for Pink to work on a new material... After a strong support from German VIVA TV, local band Stanfour succeeds in having another top 20 hit with the actually quite good "Wishing You Well". So far only "In Your Arms" peaked higher, reaching #14 some a year ago. Perhaps one of the biggest news of the week is the disappointing entry of the latest single of Daniel Schuhmacher at #22. As Daniel is the latest winner of the German version of Music Idol and his debut single reached #1 earlier this year, the entry of "Honestly" (actually a brand new song) outside the top 20 does not bode well for the future of the "superstar". So for now Daniel is not the new Mark Medlock... A disappointing new entry also for Shakira, who follows the top three hit "She Wolf", with "Did It Again", which even fails to reach the top 30. "Did It Again" is actually the better song, but still a far cry from Shakira's previous output... A total of nine years and 23 singles!!! have passed since the time when Scooter last missed the top 30 with "She's the Sun" in 2000. Now, unfortunately for them, the band's latest song "The Sound Above my Hair" enters at #38 and thus breaks the steady line-up of only top-30 hits. As it is somewhat a lazy redo of "Wonderful Life" of Black from 1987 (number two in Germany), it may be said that the song deserves to have a poor performance. But don't write them off, Scooter will be back in the top 20 in no time, I'm sure! This week sees also the rising of the Christmas songs, which once again are led by Wham's "Last Christmas" (#24) and Melanie Thornton's "Wonderful Dream" (#43). Further down the chart interesting new entries can be found by Sasha and Maria Mena, with the beautiful "Wide Awake" at #68 and by Romanian star Inna at #80. The latter is such a smash here in Bulgaria... Interestingly Snow Patrol and Death Cab for Cutie are absent this week even though VIVA plays them and last week I said I expected big jumps... The albums chart is once again dominated by Ich + Ich, with the only new entries in the top 50 being the live CDs (DVDs) of Peter Fox and Die Toten Hosen, which I'm sure are great!

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 4.12 It's a third non-consecutive week for Ich+Ich at the top of the singles chart and a second consecutive at the summit of the LP chart. The song is great, if you haven't checked it yet, do so :) As in the last week, this week sees the biggest new entry coming in at #2, this time from super band Black Eyed Peas. "Meet Me Halfway" may be the third single taken from their latest album, but beats by an inch the #3 peak of the first two singles ("Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling"). It's the best song out of the three, so no complaints there. At number three we can find German band Culcha Candela, whose latest single "Monsta" jumps 14-3 in its fifth week in the chart. I guess the move is triggered by something, but someone who lives in Germany may be able to explain it. "Monsta" does become the guys' second song to reach the top three, apart from the number one smash "Hamma!" in 2007. It easily beats the #12 peak of "Schöne neue Welt", the pilot single from the album of the same name. The second highest new entry belongs to Alicia Keys at #8. It's the first single from Alicia's forthcoming album "The Element of Freedom" and is her fifth song to reach the top ten in Germany. Her biggest successes are "Fallin'" (at #2) and "No One" (at #3). This week Alicia's duet with Jay-Z "Empire State Of Mind" is three places behind at #11 and I think this is the song that deserves to be top ten... Speaking of Jay-Z, the next new entry comes from his missus Beyonce at #14. "Broken Hearted Girl" is the fourth single from her "I Am... Sasha Fierce" album to be released in Germany and the first one to miss the top 10. Though a position in the top 20 for a fourth single proves once again her superstar status. Next up at #19 enters the duet of Jennifer Paige and Nick Carter from Backstreet Boys. Jennifer Paige, most famous for her hit "Crush", has not been in the charts for ages, while Nick Carter was last seen here several months ago with his band and "Straight Through My Heart", which reached #22. "Beautiful Lie" is a great pop song and it's good that Germans did not ignore it. Further down the charts, not so impressive new entries can be seen from German band Reamonn at #37 ("Aeroplane" is actually the fourth singles from their latest album, so no surprises); Sunrise Avenue at #42, who continue to struggle to have another top 20 single besides the massive "Fairytale Gone Bad"; and Jan Delay at #44, whose follow-up to the top ten hit "Oh Jonny" fails to make any considerable impact. Good words can be said for the newest single of Jared Leto's band 30 Seconds To Mars which by reaching #39 becomes their first top 50 song in Germany. I have the feeling that we can expect big jumps from Snow Patrol and Death Cab For Cutie in the next weeks, so we can talk for them then. The LP chart continues to be dominated by great albums, with Lady Gaga's latest edition of "Fame" soaring #28 - #3. The biggest new entry belongs to Rihanna at #4, while I'm sure Thomas Godoj might have expected something better. And the best ofs of Enya and Anna Netrebko are definite must-haves...

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 27.11 This week sees German duo Ich + Ich returning to the number one position for a second nonconsecutive week with the great "Pflaster". Thus Robbie Williams, who managed to regain the top spot last week, falls to number three giving way to the highest new entry of the week. The comeback single of Rihanna cements her superstar status in Germany by coming in at #2. "Russian Roulette" is the debut single of her latest album "Rated R" and comes after the troubles she had with Chris Brown this year. It manages the peak of singles such as "SOS" and "Unfaithful" and is a step behind her number one songs "Umbrella" and "Don't Stop The Music". Still, I may be the only one, but I cannot quite get the appeal of the song... New at number eight comes Danish star Aura Dione. The wonderful "I Will Love You Monday" reached only #20 in her native country, but with its cheeky video and catchy refrain it enters the top 10 in Germany. Quite a deserved hit for the newcomer, check it out! After storming the UK charts quite early with "Empire State Of Mind", Jay-Z finally releases what is, if you ask, me his best single in Germany. The song is the second single from the Blueprint III album, and succeeds in placing above the peak of the lead one "Run This Town" (#18). For now Jay-Z's biggest songs in Germany remain "Hard Knock Life", with a peak at #5, and "'03 Bonnie & Clyde" (#6). Also new to the top 100 is the latest single of Britney Spears. "3" marks the release of Britney's best of collection and despite failing to reach the top 10 at least fares better than "If U Seek Amy", which was her least performing single in Germany. I don't know if her last video "Radar" was ever released as a single in Germany but the fact is that it did not enter the chart at all. So, Britney may be far from the top, where she used to be in the past, but is still in the top 20. A little bit from nowhere comes the latest song of 50 Cent at #26. Its the lead single from rapper's latest album "Before I Self Destruct" and I think it did not receive any rotation in Germany before the physical release. Thus the song makes it to the top 30 but compared to his top ten singles "In Da Club", "P.I.M.P.", "Candy Shop", "Outta Control" and "Ayo Technology", it can be considered a flop. Despite the hype in the US and UK charts, Jay Sean's hit "Down" enters the German charts at the relatively low #29, proving that not every international smasher becomes extremely popular in Germany. Six places behind, at #35, enters the debut single of Sarah Kreuz. She ranked second in the last edition of the German music idol, behind Daniel Schuhmacher, who you can expect to return the charts quite soon. Further down the chart, not so impressive new entries can be found by Stefanie Heinzmann at #68 and Green Day at #71. The album chart, as well as the singles one, is dominated by Ich + Ich and their latest LP "Gute Reise". In fact this is the second week in a row in which one act rules the two charts after Robbie Williams did it a week ago. Interesting new entries can be seen at #3 by Norah Jones, at #11 by Jamie Cullum, at #12 by Leona Lewis (quite low) and at #19 by One Republic.

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue Date 13.11 So Robbie Williams has to retreat from the number one spot in Germany after three weeks staying there. Thus, Ich + Ich, one of the best German bands in the last decade, finally has its much deserved number one with "Pflaster" (or plaster). The single is the pilot song from the duo's newest album "Gute Reise", which comes after the hugely successful "Vom selben Stern". The latter produced three extremely massive singles "Vom selben Stern"; "Stark" and "So soll es bleiben", which stayed for months in the top ten but never managed to reach the top spot. So check out "Pflaster" - one of the best songs in German this autumn. From one great new entry to another at #3 where OneRepublic's newest single "Secrets" comes in. Clearly among their best singles, "Secrets" features in the soundtrack of Til Schweiger's new film "Zweiohrkueken". Thus, it is for now released only in the German speaking region, which deprives the other parts of the world from a significantly beautiful track for the winter days... It's OneRepublic's second biggest track in Germany next to the number one "Apologize". Next up, at #15 we can find the latest single of Jeanette Biedermann, one of the most successful German female artists in the last ten years. "Solitary Rose" is the third single taken from Jeanette's "Undress to the Beat" album, which manages to perform quite better than the second one, which reached only #43. However, if you ask me, Jeanette has had much better songs than this... Teen star Justin Bieber has a second single in the German charts with "One Less Lonely Girl" at #22. Several months ago he debuted in the countdown with "One Time", which peaked at #14. Still he has to do more to attract other admirers apart from the teen girls. The next new entry belongs to Belgian star Kate Ryan at #28. Once again "Babacar" is a cover of a French top song from the 80s, performed then by France Gall. The original peaked at #14 in 1987. Though Kate Ryan is a specialist in covers, I think that "Babacar" deserves to be outside the top 20 as it is not among her most inspired ones. You should also not neglect the latest single of Cassandra Steen's "Glaub Ihnen Kein Wort" (or don't believe him a word), which deserved to be in the top ten but instead enters at #49. I guess that is due to the fact that her album has been released since the start of the year and it is the third single taken from it. Still the song is really really great! And finally for the albums chart - Bon Jovi's latest album "The Circle" becomes the band's fifth studio album to reach the top spot. Thus it ends the reign of Rammstein in the LP chart.

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 6.11 The new chart sees Robbie Williams' "Bodies" still hanging on the number one spot, for a third week in a row. The biggest challenge comes from Gossip's "Heavy Cross", which despite being 20-week old manages to reverse the downward trend and somewhat unexpectedly to jump to #2 from #7. The biggest new entry of the week comes in at #4 from Popstar winners Queensberry. The girls had struggled to make a huge impact with their first releases but after their last single "Too Young" reached #5, their take on the Shakespears Sister 1992 hit "Hello (Turn Your Radio On)" becomes also their most successful single to date. The original peaked at #12. The new single is also the pilot song from Queensberry's second album "On my Own". Two places below the girls, rock veterans Bon Jovi soar 18-6 with their newest single "We Weren't Born To Follow", with the sales boosted by the release of the single in a physical format. The second highest new entry belongs to schlager singer Jürgen Drews. Drews is a veteran in the German charts, with his first single dating from 1972. In the summer of 1976 his "Ein Bett im Kornfeld" reached number one and he has only one top ten single with "Barfuß durch den Sommer". Now all changes with "Ich bau dir ein Schloss" (or "I'll build you a castle") entering at #10 and becoming Drews's third biggest hit in his long career. Last he was in the chart in 2005. At #18 German band Culcha Candela enters with the second single taken from their fourth album. "Monsta" follows closely the pilot single of the album "Schöne neue Welt" which reached #12 some months ago. The album is however still to produce a top ten song. Deserved, though unexpected, is the #36-22 jump of A-ha's latest single "Shadowside", which somehow shows that the sales behind the group are not only fan driven. The pilot single of the album "Foot Of The Mountain" also re-enters at #38 this week, perhaps because of the news that the band is to split up. In a time when Cassandra Steen rules the singles chart (expect her third single, the glorious "Glaub ihnen kein Wort" soon), it's a tough period for her former band Glashaus to make a significant impact. Thus their comeback single "Das hier" (or "this here") enters this week at the underwhelming #43. Despite with a new singer to replace Cassandra and although the song is good German pop, I guess something has gone wrong. "Wenn Das Liebe Ist" is their only top ten single so far. The other new entry worth mentioning is the third single of Kings Of Leon, which enters at #69. Not good position but it should be taken into account that everyone who cares has their wonderful album already. In the albums chart, Rammstein remain at the top for a second week, challenged by German legend Westernhagen, whose latest album enters at #2. I still haven't heard the album but I hope that it has a song of the caliber of "Wieder hier" from some ten years ago. At #4 is Michael Jackson's soundtrack to "This Is It", which to be honest has only one new song... and at #5 is Sting's holiday album "If On A Winter's Night".

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date - 30.10 The new chart sees a second week for Robbie Williams at the top spot, plus three new entries in the top ten all coming from great German acts. First of them is rapper Sido, whose amazing "Hey du", as expected by me, becomes his biggest hit to date by entering the top 100 at #4. The song marks the release of Sido's fourth album "Aggro Berlin". Sido, or Paul Hartmut Würdig, has been in the top ten only once so far with "Augen auf" from 2008, though "Mein Block" is perhaps his most memorable song. Next we have Xavier Naidoo, one of the best German singers nowadays, with "Alles kann besser werden" (or "everything can improve") at #6. The song is so great that I really expected it to be his second number one besides "Danke". Still a top ten placing is quite great, having in mind that Xavier's album of the same name this week drops only a place after being number one in the albums chart last week. The third new entry in the top ten belongs to Silbermond. "Krieger des Lichts" (or "soldiers of the light") is the third single from their "Nichts passiert" LP. The song marks the return of the band in the top ten after the number one "Irgendwas bleibt" and "Ich bereue nichts", which managed to reach only #20. And check up the splendid video. Further down the top 20, Rammstein fall 5-15 with their scandalous single "p*ssy" but as the group's sixth album "Liebe ist für alle da" enters this week at #1 and also charts well all over the world, including Billboard, I guess there will be no regrets. The fourth, and last, new entry in the top 20 comes at #19 from Disney princess Ashley Tisdale with "Crank It Up". It's the second single taken from "Guilty Pleasure". The first one "It’s Alright, It’s OK" is so far Ashley's biggest hit in Germany, reaching #12. And why I think she copies Britney in "Crank It Up"...? Next at #21 we can see the surprising feat of Tokio Hotel, who managed to reverse the strong downward trend of "Automatisch" and to jump #34 to #21. Perhaps their live performance this week at the EMAs will boost the sales even further? At #22 we have another new entry, this time of newcomer Cherine Nouri and "Faithful" - a beautiful ballad taken from the soundtrack of German TV movie "Vulkan". As for the surprising jump of Coldplay's "Scientist", a song originally from 2002, at #26 from #77, I guess someone who is in Germany can explain it... And it is heading towards the top 20 too. Further down the chart we have a new entry of Flo Rida and "Jump" at #27, an improvement compared to previous single "Sugar". Interesting new entries can be also found by A-HA and "Shadowside" at #36, the follow-up to top three hit "Foot Of The Mountain" and by Foo Fighters and "Wheels" at #56. As long as the LP chart is concerned, apart from Rammstein at #1, new entries which deserve your attention are the soundtrack to "New Moon" at #3, amazing Michael Buble and "Crazy Love" at #5 and of Miley Cyrus with "The Time Of Our Lives" at #9.

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan’s German chart comments – Issue date 23.10 (Sorry for not making any comments last week – I’ve been quite busy) Yet another week and another new number one for a fourth consecutive chart. Usually it is calmer at the top of the German singles charts but after Rammstein, David Guetta and Lady Gaga, now it is time for Robbie Williams to claim the number one spot. It would be interesting to see whether he would manage to break the one-week curse and stand as number one for a second week. Now for the song itself. “Bodies” once again proves the superstar status of Robbie in Germany. A status achieved with “Feel” in 2002 and cemented with “Tripping” and “Rudebox”, his two other number ones in the country. “Bodies” also marks the third album of Robbie, whose pilot single reaches the top of the German charts. I don’t know how right I am but I’ve got the feeling that mr. Williams is already a bigger star in Germany and in the UK. “Bodies” marks another milestone as well, as now Robbie has more number ones in Germany than his former band Take That… With the new entry of “Bodies” at number one, Lady Gaga has to fall a place to the runner-up position with her “greatest single ever” “Paparazzi”. Another fact worth mentioning in the top ten is the surprising steadiness of Rammstein’s former number one “p*ssy”, which contrary to all expectations remains in the top five for a fourth week. It’s good also to see Scooter’s “Ti Sento” rising a place to number ten. Now they have a top ten single with yet another album. “Ti Sento” is Scooter’s 42nd single and their 23rd top ten hit. Not much happens in the top 20, apart from the somewhat small fall of Bon Jovi’s latest single to #14 (and it is still on download) and the fact that Nena managed to overturn the initial downward trend for her latest single “Wir sind wahr”. After entering the chart at #28 four weeks ago, going down to #45, the song now climbs for a second week and enters finally the top 20 – a territory where Nena deserves to be… The next new entry comes in at #31 by Cascada and “Fever”, the follow-up to "Evacuate the Dancefloor", which reached #5 some months ago and became one of the dance anthems of the summer. The formula behind "Fever" is more or less the same, which I guess has led to the fading of the song's appeal. Further down the chart at #40 we find a new entry by British singer Gary Go with "Wonderful" - a somewhat late release in Germany and I wonder if the song did not feature in the soundtrack of "Männerherzen" a new movie with Til Schweiger it would have been able to even break the top 50. It's a nice single though. And finally I just wished that the latest wonderful single of Michael Buble  have entered much higher...

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 09.10 Somewhat expected, following the initial surge in the sales of Rammstein's latest, more than scandalous, single, the interest in the song has plummeted resulting in a fall to number five. Still it is by far better than the plunge of 24 positions made by Tokio Hotel's newest single, which falls 5-29 in its second week in the chart. Quite bad... That makes David Guetta claiming the #1 position for the first time with his monstrous hit "Sexy Bitch". Guest star Akon is no stranger to the top spot, after his smash hit "Lonely" reached it in 2005. The biggest new entry of the week comes from former DSDS winner Mark Medlock, whose sixth ever single is also his sixth consecutive top five hit... Despite that the recipe is the same as his previous hit "Mamacita" (one of the songs of the summer in Germany), Germans still like Mark and his, or Dieter Bohlen's, charisma. And in what is a perfect market move, Mark never releases too many singles from one album. Thus "Baby Blue" comes as a new track in the re-released "Club Tropicana" LP. Is this the way to be always in the top ten? The next new hit of the week is at #25 and belongs to Livingston. The band, with South African origins, is new to the chart although it has played as a support act to names such as Revolverheld, Blind, The Duke Spirit, Ich & Ich and Thomas Godoj. This week also sees the return of Austria's biggest star in the top 100. Unfortunately for DJ Oetzi, his latest single "Sweet Carolina" enters at #37 and it seems is going to be his lowest charting single since 2004. But I still have the feeling he will come up with a number one once again... And finally, proving that Pussycat Dolls are these days not the great stars they used to be, at least in Germany, their latest offering "Hush Hush" comes in at #44. It is for now their least successful single in the country and I'm not quite sure if a physical release will boost much the sales. Nevertheless, I think that the peak position of their previous single "Jai Ho" at #29 is one of the biggest mistakes in the chart this year as the song was a top tune all over the world and deserved to be top ten...

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 02.10 So finally we have a new number one in Germany, coming from perhaps the most famous German group worldwide. Not only Rammstein manage to score their first number one ever with "P*ssy" but also to end the continuous female dominance over the charts. To the song itself, though I don't think "P*ssy" is Rammstein's song which most deserved to be number one (I can name ten singles of them which are by far better) we cannot ignore that they have come up with the perfect formula for a number one hit - to be scandalous to the maximum. So the video and the lyrics are actual porno and no TV or radio plays the song (though VIVA has now playlisted it, but I'm still waiting for the video to be played - perhaps only during the night and with a censored version) but that didn't stop "P*ssy" shooting straight to the top. The second biggest news of the week can be find at number five, where German sensation Tokio Hotel come in with the pilot single of their second album. While a top five placing cannot be considered a failure, I still think that some of the initial magic that has made four of their eight singles number ones has faded away. "Automatisch" is a new single after a two-year absence, it comes from yet to be released album, but it manages to be their least peaking song (along "Schrei") and most importantly the single is not number one! This doesn't bode well for the future... The next new entry follows at #22 and you have to admire of the continuous attempts of one of the best boy bands ever to release singles and not just call it a day. Not that the latest song of Backstreet Boys is so bad, but something is once again missing. They are not Take That and I guess it's the Boys title that is burdening them. Who knows? At least the single is not the flop it is in the UK... Good news for Kelly Clarkson at #23. Her previous single "I Do Not Hook Up" miserably flopped outside the top 50, but now "Already Gone" - a beautiful strong ballad manages to return her in the top 30, a territory where she has to be... And finally some words on the latest and somewhat surprising new release of German legend Nena. Her career already spans more than 25 years and as "Wir sind wahr" is a good song, I wonder why the video was released just a week or two ago and the single was so fast rushed into the shops. So with no strong promotion it manages to make, at least for now, only #28. Oh, and why Daniel Merriweather didn't release "Red" in Germany? It is after all his best and most successful single so far. But still good to see "Impossible" in the top 40.

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 25.08 Another week for Marit Larsen at the top of the German singles charts. Once again the biggest new hit of the week comes from a female artist, with Lady Gaga's fourth single entering at #3. As for me "Paparazzi" is her best single so far, with the best video, the placing in the top three is quite deserving. Lady Gaga has also succeeded in bringing all her singles in the German top ten. The least successful in terms of a peak position, but perhaps with the longest run, is "Just Dance", while "Poker Face" remained at the number one for ages, being I think the best single of the year so far. Jumping nine places we can find some fresh male power as Charlie Winston enters the countdown at #12. Unknown to the German charts so far, the English singer has managed to bring his first single "Like A Hobo" to the top of the French charts. Now it's time for Germany to be conquered by his sound and maybe his own UK will come next? Kudos should also go to La Roux whose "Bulletproof" marks a new peak at #13. Next up at #22 we have the follow-up to "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)", one of the worldwide biggest hits this summer. " Hotel Room Service" is the third single of US rapper Pitbull as a lead singer in the German singles chart (though I don't think that the 2008 song "The Anthem" should be counted at all). New hits from two great German bands come in this week at #27 and #29. "Ich War Noch Niemals In New York" is the second single of Sportfreunde Stiller's MTV Unplugged album. A marvelous song for all of you who are into German music, it follows "Ein Kompliment", the guys' second biggest hit so far. Although uncredited the single features the guest appearance of Udo Juergens, a German music veteran, whose own take on the song enters at the lower end of the top 100. I think the song is actually taken from Udo's own musical of the same name. And finally, one of my top favourite German groups has a new single entering the top 30 at #29. As "Ich bin mein Haus" is the fourth single taken from Rosenstolz' latest album it fails to break the top ten as the first three, which however does not mean that the song is not just great... The video shows shots of all Rosenstolz' videos so far.
