German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 18.09 Quite a disappointing chart this week, at least for me. First I've expected Madonna to remove Marit Larsen from the top spot and not only that has not happened but Shakira manages to chart higher than the Queen of pop. Apart from that, it's a shame that Jay-Z's latest enters at the lower end of the top 20, but which is still more disturbing is how Germans are going to ignore Mika's latest golden hit... However, let's return to the chart itself. So Marit Larsen and her already boring hit remains at the top spot for a fourth week. She is challenged by the highest new entry coming from Shakira and "She Wolf" at #2. Still I cannot quite get the appeal of the song. It is not bad, but I don't think it's the best she can offer. And am I the only one who thinks she copies Beyonce's style in the video... Shakira has been number one in the country with "Whenever Wherever", "Hips Don't Lie" and "Beautiful Liar". Next up is Madonna who enters the chart at number five. "Celebration", a great dance track, marks the release of her latest compilation with greatest hits. Strangely or not, a superstar she may be, but Madonna has only four number one singles in the country, with the latest three being in the last century... So I hoped that "Celebration" will be the next, but at least it has the honour to be her 25fh top ten single. Once again the female dominance in the German charts is clear but this time we have two male singers entering the top 20. Actually Justin Bieber is only 15 years old and, with the help of Usher, one of the rising teen stars across the Atlantic. His appeal has been now transferred towards Europe and Justin's debut single comes this week at #14. As long as Jay-Z is concerned his best performance as a lead singer in Germany continues to be "Hard Knock Life" from 1998 which peaked at #5 and "'03 Bonnie & Clyde", which reached #6. Although "Run This Town" is a massive hit elsewhere, for now manages only the #18 position in Germany. It however has a potential to go higher in the next weeks. I however doubt the potential of Mika's latest pop anthem "We Are Golden" to go much higher in Germany from its dismal entry at #29. "We Are Golden", the lead single from his second album, is for now his lowest charting song in the country apart from "Lollipop". Fingers crossed it will remain in the top 30 for a long time... And some quick words for several of the other new entries. It's good to see one of the newcomers of 2009 finally in the German charts at #37. Still I think Pixie Lott should have charted higher. Maybe with "Boys and Girls"? It's great also to see the latest from U2, Paramore and Muse in the top 50.

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 11.09 No changes at the top this week where Merit Larsen remains for a third week in a row. However, as expected, the second single from the latest "One Love" album of David Guetta "Sexy Bitch" rises seven positions to #2, reaching the peak position of the pilot single "When Love Takes Over". Now when the song is already playlisted on the music channels and gains in popularity every day is it possible to go up to number one and break the tradition for only female artists being at the top? Good news also for Gossip who after a steady climb finally make it to the top three. Still one of the most unexpected hits in Germany this summer. The highest new entry belongs to German group Soehne Mannheims at #14. "Ich Wollt Nur Deine Stimme Hörn" is the second single from their latest album "Iz On" and as the first one struggles to make it to the top 10 - a territory usually reserved for Xavier and co. Still, a beautiful song quite appropriate for the upcomming autumn season. Great news for all La Roux fans, as the singer's "Bulletproof" jumps to #19, entering the top 20 for the first time. The second new entry comes in at #29 by German rapper Bushido as a producer to Sonny Black & Frank White. Of course, as we've already mentioned on BJ, VIVA and MTV do not play Bushido anymore, so I haven't heard the song so far. And despite that he has top ten hits, many of Bushido's singles rank in the top 30, with "Eine Chance / Zu Gangsta" being no expection. Following her first single in Germany as a lead artist ("Return The Favor" - peak at #21), Keri Hilson returns to the singles charts with "Knock You Down" at #30. This time she is helped by Kanye West and Ne-Yo. And finally not so good news for Stefanie Heinzmann, whose first single from her second album fails to enter the top 30 and comes in at #38. Despite the huge success of "My Man Is A Mean Man", she has not managed to make considerable chart impact since, apart from "The Unforgiven" cover. Still I expect the new album of the Swiss star to sell well.

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan’s German chart comments – Issue date 04.09 It’s another week for Marit Larsen at the top of the German singles chart, with her “If A Song Could Get Me You”. And as Madonna’s “Celebration” is approaching, I guess the Norwegian singer will have to retreat from the number one soon… This week David Guetta not only goes up 4-2 with “When Love Takes Over”, but manages to have another top ten hit on his account with “Sexy Bitch”, which boosted by a physical release rises five to #9. As Guetta is behind Black Eyed Peas’ “I Got A Feeling”, we may say that the DJ holds around 30% of the top ten. His latest album comes in in the corresponding chart at #2. New female power flows in the singles top 100 this week, with Agnes and No Angels being the highest new entries at #13 and #15, respectively. After storming her native Sweden a few years ago and UK a few months ago, Agnes now succeeds in having a hit in Germany too. And having in mind who number one is, I think the Scandinavian countries are quite good presented in the German charts. As long as No Angels are concerned, “One Life” marks the return of the charts of the four girls after the Eurovision disaster “Disappear” (it was a great song, I don’t know why it failed so miserably at the contest…). Though the number one territory is already in the past, it is good to see Lucy and co alive and kicking some eight years after “Daylight in Your Eyes”. Going past Pur (perhaps the only German band, which I cannot stand), let’s pay attention to another female singer at #28. Linda Teodosiou is one of the runner-ups in the fifth season of the German version of Music Idol. “Reprogram My Heart” is a catchy pop song, a follow-up to her debut singer “Love Sux”, which peaked at #24.

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 28.08 (Sorry for the late comments but I'm still recovering from the Madonna concert last Saturday :yahoo: ) Finally, after a two-month stay, Emilliana Torrini has been kicked off from the top spot of the German singles chart by Norwegian singer Merit Larsen and her "If A Song Could Get Me You". Thus Merit continues the total female dominance at the top of the German charts this year, with I think the only exception being Daniel Schuhmacher. As a whole the top ten is occupied by female acts as apart from Frauenarzt & Manny Marc all other singles have a strong female presence in them. In addition, Marit's album enters the albums chart this week at #3. The highest new entry belongs to one of the most successful and long running German bands Scooter at #12. Since their 94 debut, HP and co have been present in the chart in every single year with a great consistency. "J'Adore Hardcore" marks the release of their latest LP and is once again based on the same winning formula. And that's why I like it so much The song samples the Planet Funk single "Chase the sun", which reached #61 in Germany. The next new entry is one of the freshest German summer hits, coming from Culcha Candela. The band had an enormous success with their last album, including the number one single "Hamma". This time around the guys are under the top 10 but a top 20 new entry is quite better than the chart fiasco of their earliest song attempts. After a number one single and two top ten tracks, superstar Pink's fourth single taken from her latest album enters the chart at #16, proving that the artist is one of the most reliable singers in terms of chart performance in Germany. Kudos should also go to La Roux, one of the best new acts of the year, who manages to make a top 30 entry with "Bulletproof". Fingers crossed that with the airplay which she will now gain, the song will climb in the top 20.

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 21.08 Another summer week and another slow German charts, as long as the new entries are concerned. This leaves Emilliana Torrini untroubled at the number one position for two months now. Following the #2 - #5 fall of Nelly Furtado's amazing new single, Cassandra Steen manages to come back to the #2 position, making an eight week there. The biggest news in the top ten comes from the #13-#3 jump of Norwegian singer Marit Larsen, who can already say is a hitmaker in Germany. Good news also for the "Sexy Bitch" of David Guetta and Akon, which is destined to be a top ten hit quite soon, turning the DJ into the undisputable dance king of summer 2009. The highest new entry belongs to Colbie Caillat, who manages to have another top 20 hit after the success of "Bubbly" in 2007 and the somewhat good performance of her duet with Jason Mraz. "Fallin' for You" is the lead single of Colbie's second studio album "Breakthrough". Supported by French musician Space Cowboy, German band Cinema Bizarre return to the charts with the first single from their upcoming second album. As Space Cowboy has given his dance flavour to the single, "I Came 2 Party" becomes the first song of Cinema Bizarre which I actually like. It's shame that for now it manages to peak outside the top 30...

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date Aug 14 It’s already an undisputed fact that Emilliana Torrini’s “Jungle Drum” is the definitive summer hit in Germany, making seven weeks at the top. The highest new entry comes as high as the number two position, where Nelly Furtado proves once again that she is a real superstar in Germany. After helping James Morrison making a number one hit several months ago, Furtado now not only returns to her solo career but tries her hand in singing in Spanish. The results are obvious, with not so much airplay beforehand, the song debuts straight in the top three, becoming her ninth top ten hit in the country. The latest single of Nelly Furtado also puts an end to the seven-week run of Cassandra Steen at #2. From one female superstar to another ( the clear dominance of the female singers is obvious once again) as Beyonce makes a third consecutive top ten hit from her latest album in Germany. “Sweet Dreams” enters at #8, following the success of “If I Were Boy” and “Halo”. The next new entry comes at #17, with the somewhat surprising success of Milow’s follow-up to his huge popular cover of 50 Cent’s “Ayo Technology” (peak - #2, this week at #24). A nice song “You Don’t Know” may be, but I never expected it to chart in the top 20. Nevertheless, congratulations for that. A surprising new entry comes in at #20 by David Guetta, and his second single from his latest album “One Love”. The song has not been played on the music channels so far and comes only eight weeks after the extremely successful “When Love Takes Lover”, which has never left the top five after its release. As “Sexy Bitch” is still only on download, I think we can expect a new huge summer anthem by the French DJ. And finally some words on Eminem and his latest single “Beautiful”. Still, the song is in the top 40, but apart from “Guilty Conscious”, it becomes his worst charting song in Germany, which is not a good sign for the rapper’s future career. So far he has had greater success with his ballads, but I guess something is missing this time around…

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 7.08 Despite that no-one can stop Emilliana Torrini for making a sixth week at the top of the German charts, at least we have a lot of new entries in the upper reaches of the top 100 this time. The highest new entry comes below a steady top five and belongs to Jan Delay. The biggest solo hit of the German star is the Nena cover "Irgendwie, Irgendwo, Irgendwann" from 1999, which reached #2. Now "Oh Jonny", the lead single of Jan's third solo album, sees the singer returning to top form and once again back in the top ten with a very good song. As part of the group Absolute Beginner, his biggest hit has been "Liebes Lied" reaching #11. The next highest new entry comes from Green Day, whose "21 Guns" although a complete flop in UK, manages to equal the #13 peak of the band's most successful hit in Germany "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams". Over the next weeks it would be interesting to see whether this can be outdone and the guys finally have their top ten song in Germany. At least for now the second single of their latest album performs better than the first one, although by an inch. Fresh wind from Norway comes at #15, where "If A Song Could Get Me You" of Marit Larsen manages to go outside the borders of her native country, where it was #1 last year, and to enter the German charts at quite a successful position. Marit was part of the Norwegian duet M2M, whose biggest hit has been "Don't Say You Love Me" from the early 00s, which I actually don't remember but the Internet says has reached #21 in the States. Following the enormous success of Peter Fox, it is now time for another member of Seeed to try his chances for a solo career. Thus, somewhat surprisingly, Dellé goes in at #16, proving that the solo success does not exclusively belong only to mr. Fox. From one “former” member of a group to another at #29. Jay Del Alma is part of the Puerto Rican duo Pachanga, who had a couple of major summer hits few years back, with “Loco” being their most successful by reaching #19 in Germany. This is his first solo single in the chart. Next at #34, missing by a little the top 30 (no more VIVA airplay!), is another summer anthem by the unstoppable Loona. The dance project, headed by Carisma, has had its bunch of huge hits in Germany, which I honestly adore  . Still, my feelings for the “Parapapapapa” are somewhat reserved but at least it is better than the “Rap das Armas” it samples :P and charts better than Loona’s 2008 attempt to return with “Por la noche”. And some words on Razorlight, whose follow-up to the extremely successful “Wire To Wire” makes it only at #70 the first time around. “Hostage To Love” is a marvelous song though. :yahoo: And let’s not forget one of the great and much loved by me dance acts of the 1990s Mark’Oh  , with his take on Marky Mark and Prince Ital Joe’s classic “United”, which reached #1 in 1994.

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - issue date 31.07 Once again a slow singles chart in Germany and not much going on in the top 10. Still Emilliana Torini is the number one queen, staying there for what is now a fifth consecutive week. The Iceland singer is once again followed by Cassandra Steen, while David Guetta rebounds one place to #3. Further down the top 10, Lady Gaga rises a place to #7 with "LoveGame", which perhaps soon will outperform the refusing-to-die "Poker Face". The latter is for a second week at #6. Despite the relatively low entry at #28, Marquess manage to jump to #16 this week, thus at least having a top 20 hit for yet another summer. As last week there are no new entries in the top 30 but still several singles manage to penetrate it, perhaps due to the slow, but inevitable withdrawal of Michael Jackson songs. So, Reamonn jump 29-19, Clueso 35-21, Peter Fox 32-22, Lenka 36-23 and Silbermond 39-27. At #31 we can find Tim Toupet (he is a hairstylist!) returning to the chart with his party anthem "So ein schöner Tag" and seeing other similar songs entering the top 100 (Markus Becker - 53; Mickie Krause - 67), we can be sure the holiday fever is taking its toll on the German singles countdown. Let the crazy dances begin! The biggest proper new entry comes in at #39 from Sean Paul, whose "So Fine" for now fails to have the impact as one of his biggest hits, including "Get Busy" and "We Be Burnin'". The pilot singer of Jordin Sparks' second album may be a great song, but still enters the chart at only #40. Far from the #10 peak of "No Air"... She will struggle to have a music career in Germany if you ask me...

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 24.07 Not much happening in this week's singles chart, especially in terms of new entries, with Emilliana Torrini and her "Jungle Drum" making a month on the top. As the weeks before, she is followed by Cassandra Steen who so far fails to go to the first position. Boosted by a physical release, Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling" jumps 8-3, thus equalling the success of the first single of their current album "The END". Still, we expect the LP to be able to produce a #1 single in Germany too. Kudos also to Cascada, whose "Evacuate the Dancefloor" manages to reach the #5 peak position of their best performing single so far in Germany "Everytime We Touch". To conclude the top ten, let's play attention to the continuing surprising rise of Gossip and their great "Heavy Cross", this week at #9. Slowly Michael Jackson starts to retreat from the first positions of the singles chart, and this time around we can find him as high as #19, where "Thriller" falls four places, followed by his #1 "They Don't Care About Us". He, however, continues to be the king of the albums chart, where despite three new entries in the top ten, the late singer holds 50% of the top ten, including the number one. Further down the singles chart, at #34 German punk band Jennifer Rostock makes their biggest peak so far, despite being around for the last two years. "Du Willst Mir An Die Wäsche" is the pilot single of the second album of the Berlin band called "Der Film", which enters the albums this week at #13. So no new entries straight in the top 50, with the highest being Sean Kingston's return with "Fire Burning" at #56. The song is the debut single of his second album, and despite a catchy one, fails for now to make the splash of his first single "Beautiful Girls". As long as Germany is concerned, I think he would struggle not to be a one-hit wonder. The second-highest new entry belongs to the latest German children-friendly dance project Cherona, who already had a top 40 single with "Ching Chang Chong" some months ago. There have been only ten years after the original "The Rigga-Ding-Dong-Song" of Passion Fruit made #9 in Germany, being one of the best summer anthems ever at least for me. So it was too early for those Cherona people to touch it and ruin it... And last, don't overlook Aloha From Hell's latest single "Can You Hear Me Boys", which despite landing at #79 is a great song :)

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan’s German chart comments – Issue date July 17 The jungle fever in Germany continues with Emilliana Torrini making a third week at the top of the singles chart with her “Jungle Drum”. As long as the rest of the top 10 is concerned it is interesting to see the #4-#3 growth of David Guetta & Kelly Rowland, while another definite summer anthem enters at #6. Cascada’s “Evacuate the Dancefloor” has already become the biggest hit of the German act by hitting #1 in the UK. Despite that “Everytime We Touch” peaked at #5 in Germany in 2007 I still think that Cascada’s latest has the chances to become their best hit in their native country too. As the summer progresses we will see more hot hit singles advancing in the top 100, with the next proof at #9, where Pitbull jumps after a three-week fall in the top 20 with his “I Know You Want Me”. At #11 we can find one of the strangest songs to become hits in Germany this year, with Gossip’s “Heavy Cross” which soars #34-#11 boosted by a physical release. After storming the charts last week, the biggest hit of Michael Jackson this time around becomes “They Don’t Care About Us”, which rises 14 places to #12. The song is of course one of his only two number one singles in the country. Despite having a strong presence in the singles charts, the power of Michael can be most observed in the albums top 10, where he has allowed only two other acts to disturb his dominance. Since 2006 there has been no summer without a hit of Marquess. The German group, with Spanish origins, has two top ten singles on its account, the biggest of them “Vayamos Companeros” from 2007. However, last year their summer anthems managed to enter only the top 20. This time around “Arriba” makes (for now) only #28. Has the formula lost some of its appeal? I don’t know, as the new single still has the power to make me think of the sea and the hot people there every time I hear it. And finally some words on Asher Roth at #79. Although he scored a big hit in the States, in Germany he fails miserably. It is also the next, actually the second single, who gets a big support from VIVA (each commercial break starts with Asher), and doesn’t make an impact on the charts. The other one was Jonas Brothers’ “Paranoid”.

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 10.07 As expected, the tragic death of Michael Jackson has resulted in the influx of his biggest hits in the charts all over the world. In Germany the king of pop dominates both the singles and album charts with a total of 24 songs and 9 albums. Leading the pack is "Thriller" at #9, which first time around some 25 years ago peaked at #21. The song however has become one of his most signature once, so no surprisingly it enters the top 10 this time around. As long as the albums are concerned, Michael manages to top them with an ease, with the 2008 compilation "King Of Pop", which includes most of his famous hits. As a whole, surprisingly, the star has only two number ones in the German singles chart - "Earth Song" and "They Don't Care About Us". I will not repeat the chart statistics given by Ben for MJ and will instead go on with the rest of the German charts this week. Surprisingly, despite the many Jacko's songs, the chart has also found place for some big new entries week. The biggest of them is current US #1 "I Gotta Feeling" by Black Eyed Peas. The second single taken from the "E.N.D" album of BEP comes somewhat fast after the release of "Boom Boom Pow" only eight weeks ago. The latter is currently at # 11. "I Gotta Feeling" is the better song if you ask me though and is still only on downloads. Unstoppable Lady Gaga returns to the top 100 with her third single. Once again the top 10 placing of "LoveGame" is secured but still I think that "Paparazzi" is her best song so far and I guess she will release it in Germany soon. Of course "Poker Face" is still in the top 3, being perhaps the most successful song in Germany so far in 2009. The top 100 sees also German band Soehne Mannheims returning in the countdown with the lead single of their "IZ ON" album. The guys are usually bound to enter the top 5 but I guess we need a ballad for that...
