German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 16.01 Another quiet week for the German charts as Katy Perry sits on the top untroubled for a seventh consecutive week. Inside the top ten not much happens apart from the 29-10 move of DJ Oetzi, who is back in the upper reaches of the chart with its "Noch in 10,000 Jahren". Having in mind the flood of schlager music in the Top 100 (look at Tim Toupet's own version of "So ein schoener Tag" and the appearance of several Hoehner songs at the bottom), I guess it's not wrong to say that the carnivals are coming. Expect the songs, and perhaps the DJ Oetzi's "classic" "Ein Stern", to shake the German singles chart in the next weeks. So the aforementioned Tim Toupet has the honour to be the highest new entry at #38 with his take on "So ein schoener Tag (Fliegerlied)". The children song was first in the charts last year performed by Donikkl and reaching #24. And if you judge by the live versions on YouTube, not children but adults are enjoying the stupid dance... Let's go back in the top 20, where to my delight, the wonderful "Run" of Leona Lewis manages to once again peak at #18. Fingers crossed, it will advance further. And let's not ingnore the 92-44-33-25 movement of New Kids on The Block latest offering. So far their comeback have been considered a flop, but with the help of Till Schweiger's movie "1 ½ Ritter - Auf der Suche nach der hinreißenden Herzelinde", in whose soundtrack "Dirty Dancing" features, they may at least have a top 20 hit. The rest of the chart in several words sees the return of dance projects Baracuda (#69) and Novaspace (#79), party band Hermes House Band, whose "Country Roads" are long forgotten, and the miserable flop of Jason Mraz' follow-up of the worldwide smash "I'm Yours". Yes, he is now a one-hit wonder. As long as the albums chart is concerned not much action there either with the best of collection of the great Herbert Groenemeyer still being number one. The only new entry near the top is Lafee's "Ring frei", whose previous two German albums both reached #1 and got a platinum status.

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - issue date Jan 9, 2009 As Ben mentioned in the last chart thread, no new entries in the current German Top 100*. I personally don't remember that to have happened soon, or even at all. Nevertheless, the lack of new entries is not surprising provided that the chart covers the New Year holiday period. Looking at the countdown it is clear that Germans used to spend their money on the best music which they hadn't bought throughout the year. So as all Christmas-themed songs plummet, a considerable amount of the 2008 year-end chart is being represented in the Top 100. So far I haven't got a chance to mention the relatively low entry of Leona Lewis' "Run" three weeks ago at #18. It's quite a shame as the Snow Patrol cover is clearly one of the best songs around but it at least couldn't beat the #15 peak of Leona's (miserable) last offering "Forgive Me". The 20-29-23 run so far is also not promising for the future prospects of "Run". The Snow Patrol original has never entered the German chart. And last to pay attention on a song, which has been in the chart for three months, but just now manages to enter the top 30. The Last Goodnight is a rock band from USA, whose "Pictures of You" has already been a considerable airplay hit all over Europe, achieving #22 peak in the Europe airplay chart. *Yes, Westernhagen's "Freiheit" is considered "new", perhaps because it is for the first time released on download, but actually it is a song from 1990, when it peaked at #24. ;)

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 19.12 The final chart for 2008 is just a week away, and still no signs of Katy Perry retreating from the top of the German singles charts. As always the next week chart is not expected to be of a great interest, with almost everyone focusing on the year-end charts. The latter are already published and as seen in them, it's not a strange for a song from the last weeks of the previous year to be the most sold single of the year. Thus, can we expect Perry to be in the 2009 top 20? Yes, we certainly can ;) Apart from the strange up movement of Amy MacDonald, there are two big new entries in the top 10. The common between them is that they both are the second single offerings of two already hugely sold albums. Therefore the entry of Pink's "Sober" and Rosenstolz's "Wie weit ist vorbei" at #3 and #8 is quite an achievement. Of course I'm most glad to see the German duo doing so well, as definitely Rosenstolz, plus Ich + Ich, are my two most favourite German acts for the time being. Love them  ! I've already written which are the best charting songs of Pink and Rosenstolz, and will only mention that "Sober" easily becomes the fourth hit of Pink in the top 3 of Germany ("Lady Marmalade" not included). Further down the chart only one new entry also manages to go into the top 20. The girls from the latest edition of TV casting show Popstars unite for a X-mas song and not surprisingly chart at #17. That leaves us to the question how winner band Queensberry will do in the Top 100 - like Monrose or like Room 2012? And last, let just pay a tribute to two of my favourite songs at the moment, which sadly fail to make any considerable impact on the chart. Duffy's "Rain on My Parade", is for me one of the songs of the year and deserves to be higher in the charts. As for Ich + Ich latest single "Wenn ich tot bin", I guess that after three massive hits from their album, the flops of their last two singles would not bother anyone. They are good songs though. Have a nice (and music) Christmas everyone! :cheer:

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 12.12 Apart from two considerable jumps in the top 10, there is not much going on in this week's German singles chart. The highest new entries come in outside the top 20, with only some Christmas-themed songs making impact for yet another year. So that leads us to the fact that Katy Perry is still #1, for a second consecutive week. One of the biggest challenges comes from Bushido and Karel Gott, who finally (after a physical release actually) manage to make a big splash in the chart by jumping #34 - #5. The moment I heard the song I knew it was going to be massive though the entry outside the top 30 was disappointing. However now everything is in order, and "Fuer immer jung" becomes Bushido's second biggest hit so far after "Alles verloren". And the song is just a position behind the #4 peak of the classic it is based on - Alphaville's "Forever Young", and also marks the highest ever position at which Czech singer Gott has been in Germany. That happens 41 years after his first appearance in the countdown. :cheer: Despite the considerable jump of Bushido, I guest that the song at #6 has far greater chances to attack Katy at the top next week. Yes, the next children song is already a hit as shepherd Heinrich moves 8 places in his second week in the Top 100. Is the year going to end with sheep at the #1? It after all started with bunnies there... To those following the German charts would be no surprise that Wham!'s "Last Christmas" is once again in the charts around this time of the year. And it seems it grows more popular and popular. Seriously is there anyone who still haven't got a copy of that? And let's pay a little attention to the two biggest new entries at #27 and #28. I've already written that the latest album of Monrose has not been received with the same excitement as before and so no surprises that the third single taken from it misses the top 10. It also becomes the first song of the girls outside the top 20. A shame as it is a good song, but I'm not too optimistic about the group's future. A position below the girls comes in the newest offer of Alex C under his "Y-ass" project. The song is once again provocative as "Du hast den schönsten Arsch der Welt", the video is hot, but it's more or less the same as the previous singles. Perhaps it's time for the recipe to be changed. Speaking of the end of 2008, I guess the year-end charts would appear quite soon... :yahoo:

German chart comments - Issue date 05.12
I guess that Ben is going to post the German charts soon, but until then you can check them here http://www.mtv.de/charts/germany and read my comments below ;) Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 05.12 It was mentioned last week that Katy Perry would attack the #1 position and, boosted by a physical release, "Hot 'N Cold" easily becomes her second number one hit, following "I Kissed A Girl". Not bad for a girl with only two releases on her account ;) That of course puts an end to the reign of Polarkreis 18, whose "Allein Allein" should retreat a position to #2 after spending five weeks at the top spot. Not a lot of action in the top 10 this week except for The Killers and "Human", which deservingly jumps 11-4 to mark a new peak. I really hope that the group would have more hits in the near future. The biggest surprise perhaps is the appearance of Madge at #11 with her latest single "Miles Away", which despite lacking any promotion or even a video (yes, Madonna has more important things to deal with), becomes the biggest new entry of the week. Having in mind the miserable placement of the song in UK, is it time to say that Germans like her latest output more? Speaking of different music tastes, just take a look at the #27 position where Take That enter with their newest single "Greatest Day". The guys may have a number one hit in the UK, but for now the single could not set the German charts on fire. The same thing happened with "Shine" last year, which peaked at the relatively low #21. And just for comparison, Robbie Williams, who I think the UK press has completely written off over the last years, has had 11 top ten singles in Germany, compared to 5 of Take That... Let's go back several positions just to mention the latest childish song at #14, in which sheep are dancing and also pay attention to The Pussycat Dolls, whose second offering from the "Doll Domination" may be galaxies better than the first single, but for now is only a top 20 hit. Finger crossed it's performance would improve. In her short career, German singer, with Greek origins, Lafee have already had 4 top 20 singles, but the fact that "Ring frei", the pilot song from her newest album is for now outside the top 20 should not be overlooked. However she still may not have to bother so much as Fady Maalouf, the runner-up of the latest edition of DSDS (the German pop idol). After sales of his debut album failed to justify the expectations of the record company, the hopes have been that a new single, despite a cover, may rekindle the attention towards him, but the #26 I fear may not be enough. Sometimes cuteness isn't everything ;) The week also marks the start of the usual influx of Christmas-themed songs, lead of course by Wham!. Expect them in the top 20 quite soon.

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German Chart Comments - Issue Date Nov 28 Once again no changes at the top of the German singles chart, with Polarkreis 18 staying firmly there for a fifth week in a row. As last week the biggest challenge comes from a super diva. This time great Katy Perry enters the top 3 with "Hot 'n Cold" - one of the best song of the year. The single follows chart-topper "I Kissed A Girl" (still lingering in the top 20) from the summer of 2008. For now it seems that Perry is by no means a one-hit wonder and having in mind that the song is released only on download this week, the next it will surely attack the number one spot. As 2008 is clearly the year of women in music, the next big entry comes from one and only Britney Spears and her fresh comeback single "Womanizer". The song is far better than several of her previous music efforts and deservingly beats all singles from Britney's latest album by entering at #4. "Womanizer" becomes her 11th single in the top 5 of the German charts. Quite a good record if you ask me. #7 Curse ft Silbermond - As expected by me, the collaboration of German band Silbermond and Curse was enough to give the rapper his biggest hit ever and his first top 10 single. Though "Freiheit", the first single of Curse's newest album, had also the potential to become a major hit, it failed to even break the 30 barrier. Now all that is in the past, and Curse is finally in the top 10 after trying for seven years. For those liking music in German, "Vom bis zum Schluss" is an excellent choice. Enjoy! #12 TI ft Rihanna - Among the battle of huge new entries this week, it is quite strange to see one of the singles destined to be huge failing to be in the top 10 for now. And no prizes for anyone guessing that "Live Your Life" would be the single to make TI popular outside USA. After all, it not only has the unstoppable Rihanna in it, but also samples "Dragostea Din Tea", the Romanian hit sensation from 2004. That song became the #1 hit of the year in Germany. #34 Bushido ft Karel Gott - Despite that one of the best current German rappers (or maybe the best?) has teamed up with Czech singing legend Karel Gott, the single for now does not manage to enter the top 30. Gott has been absent from the charts for 11 years, while his own take on the Alphaville classic "Forever Young" (1984 - peak #4) failed to affect the Top 100.

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's German chart comments - Issue date Nov 21 Despite the danger of super diva Beyonce to kick them off the top, the boys from Polarkreis 18 manage to retain the number one position in Germany's singles chart for what is now a whole month there. As regards Beyonce, for the time being she should be happy with the top debut of the week, straight in at #3. I'm not among Beyonce's biggest fans, but still think that "If I Were Boy" is among her best works. I know that a lot of people here hate the song, but after this year's EMAs and her powerful performance there, Beyonce has proved to be one of the best singers around. Only one song of the Jay-Z lady has charted higher than "If I Were A Boy", and of course that is her smash "Beautiful Liar" with Shakira. Just below Beyonce, we find German singing legend Herbert Groenemeyer, with a single from his forthcoming best album. After being popular in the 80s, Herbert's career was revived with the album "Mensch" in 2002, which I think has become one of the best selling German albums ever. Apart from the single of the same name, Groenemeyer has had two more number ones since than with the excellent "Zeit, dass sich was dreht" and "Lied 1 – Stück vom Himmel". Boosted by a physical release, The Killers' "Human" soars 15 places to enter the top 10. And as "Ruby" by Kaiser Chiefs last year, we have a new quite deserved worldwide break-through hit of a great band. #14 Christina Aguilera - A lot has been said about the current diva battle in the charts, and for now, as in the UK, Christina seems to be the loser in Germany. Frankly speaking, her single may be good but I feel that she is not the right person to sing it. Fingers crossed that Christina returns to form with her forthcoming new album but for now it feels like she is in urgent need of writers and inspiration. #15 Stanfour - Kudos for the persistence of German band Stanfour, who finally breaks into the top 20, after several failed attempts. "In Your Arms" is actually their fourth single from the guys' debut album "Wild Life". #21 Sarah Connor - Looking at the chart history of Sarah, you can only marvel at her excellent performance in the German Top 100. Five number one hits, seven top 10 singles, three top 20 singles, with only "French Kissing" and now "I'll Kiss It Away" failing to reach the top 20. My advice to Sarah - keep singing your staff, but please avoid the word "kiss" in the title...

German Top 100 Singles/Albums Chart
Yan's late German chart comments - Issue date Nov 14 The new week brings no changes at the top of the German singles chart, with Polarkreis 18 staying there for three weeks now. The song and its great shot in Norway video has grown a lot on me over the last weeks, so well done to the guys. The next weeks will show whether the influx of big new entries, led by Britney Spears, Beyonce and Bushido, would be able to trouble the reign of Polarkreis 18. The honour for the biggest new entry quite surprisingly goes to US rock band Nickelback at #6. Apart from their debut "How You Remind Me", which peaked at #3, the guys are not famous for being able to reach the upper parts of the German singles chart. Songs like "Photograph" and "Rockstar" might have stayed in the Top 100 for months but peaked at #18 and #23, respectively. Perhaps the band has managed to establish itself as a popular name, which may explain the debut of "Gotta Be Somebody" in the top 10. The song marks the release of Nickelback's new album. And let's pay a little more attention to the other new entries worth mentioning this week: #8 Kanye West - "Love Lockdown" - The latest single of the US rapper easily becomes his biggest single in Germany beating the #17 peak of both "Stronger" and "Homecoming". Apart from his collaboration with Estelle on "American Boy" which reached #5, Kanye has never been able to penetrate the top 10 before. Perhaps the fact that he actually sings now has helped him? Nevertheless it's a great song and deserves to be in the top 10. #10 Stefanie Heinzmann - "Unforgiven" - Some months ago I said that Stefanie might quickly become a one-hit wonder, with her "My Man Is A Mean Man" being the only song to enter the top 10. Of course, I did not expect that Stefanie would release a cover of Metallica's "Unforgiven", which quickly shoots in at #10. In addition the song is included only in the deluxe edition of her debut album, which also explains the high placing. The strangest thing is that "Unforgiven", being one of Metallica most famous songs, shamefully peaked at the low #47. #15 Leona Lewis - "Forgive Me" - Following the #1 smash "Bleeding Love" and the #2 hit "Better in Time", the third single of British sensation Leona Lewis fails to reach the top 10. The song is still not included in her debut album, so a higher placing should have been perhaps more appropriate. But we should not forget that "Forgive Me", written by Akon, differs quite from Leona's previous output... #19 Schiller ft Colbie Caillat - "You" - After the Summer Olympics theme "Time For Dreams", German dance project Schiller return to the charts with another great single, this time teaming up with Colbie Caillat. Still undeservingly Shiller remains with no top 10 hit, but let's hope that the #13 peak of "Dream Of You" will soon be beaten.
