Yan's German Chart Comments (issue date 16.05.08) So to the shock of all Madonna fans out there, she failed to make a full month at the top of the German charts and the big news is that Mark Medlock is back. "Summer Love", taken from his third album in less than two years, is the fourth single of Mark so far and follows the footsteps of the number ones "Now Or Never" and "You Can Get It", and the top five hit "Unbelievable". As a whole it seems that Mark, backed by DSDS producer Dieter Bohlen (of Modern Talking fame), will have the most consistent career at the top of the charts among all winners of the German Music Idol (DSDS). For example Alexander Klaws, the most famous of all winners so far, has peaked with his singles at respectively 1, 9, 1, 2, 5, 19, 12, 16, 65. Is Mark going to be the Will Young of the German charts, only time will tell... Nevertheless I still think that Madonna, who is number one in the albums for a second week, has the potential to return to the top spot during the next weeks. And speaking of DSDS, I have the feeling that the contest is responsible for the influx of re-entries of old hits at the bottom of the top 100. As long as the remaining top 10 is concerned, the most considerable stir is made by Scooter, who to my delight caused a huge surprise in the UK and now return in the top 10 with "I'm Lonely". And thoughts on some of the other new entries this week: #25 Britney Spears - "Break the Ice" - After peaking at #7 with both "Gimme More" and "Piece Of Me", Britney's third single from her latest album for now has failed to enter the top 20. The fact is that if "Break The Ice", a great song by the way, does not advance further it would be Britney's worst performance in the Top 100. Her least successful song in Germany so far has been "Someday (I will Understand)" peaking at #22. Check BZ over the next week for more info on Spears' German chart history. #29 Wilson Gonzales - "New York City" - Wilson is the next German actor to enter the music record studio. However, though I find him better than Jimi Blue, Wilson has not managed to repeat the big splash which Jimi's first solo single made by entering the top 5. Born in the family of actors, Wilson Gonzales is most famous for his roles in the German hit "Wilden Kerle" and its sequals. #37 M Pokora - "Dangerous" - Matt Pokora may be a huge star in France, where the singer of Polish ancestry has several chart topping singles, but his attempts to be a hitmaker outside the French speaking region are for now fruitless. However, as long as my humble opinion matters he is one of the few acts in the quite boring French charts who deserves our attention. ;) #42 Vincent - "Miss Blue" - Oh, I've tried to find something interesting about Vincent but only come across the fact that he is Swedish and that the famous local model Anine Bing cameos in the video of "Miss Blue". :w00t: #45 Ashley Tisdale - "Suddenly" - Ashley's former two singles "He Said She Said" and "Not Like That" peaked at #17 and #20, respectively. I think that we should wait for High School Musical 3 to give her music career another boost... That's all for now. I don't think that I would be able to put any comments for the next chart earlier than Monday. Be patient and go watch Indiana Jones instead of lingering in the Internet... :yahoo:

It's written in my profile ;) As music channels are concerned, I'm glad that we have the chance to watch a lot of them here in Bulgaria, from the awful local MTV to VH1 and several Bulgarian channels, but I still most enjoy Viva Germany (cheers to my cable operator) and the original UK MTV Hits (which we have for several months now).

Daisy Dee :wub: :wub: :wub: 'Club Rotation' :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: the good old years, with the old VIVA still not bought by MTV... Perhaps I'm a little bit nostalgic but then the music channels were different. And don't get me wrong I like the new Viva, but the feeling is not the same ...

Yan's German Chart Comments (issue date 09.05.08) Still no changes at the top of the German charts as Madonna, Duffy and Ich+Ich occupy the three leading spots for a third consecutive week. Nevertheless Madonna makes it a double victory with her album not surprisingly crowning also the LP chart. In an overall quiet singles chart, the highest new entry shots diretly at #5. Estelle has been massive in the UK but I've never expected her to be so strong in Germany. To prove me wrong, she becomes the next big UK female name in 2008 to have a worldwide success. Furthermore she backs my theory that the year so far has been the year of the female power as long as the German charts are concerned. I should also mention the entry of the Norway's band Madcon and their "Beggin'" in the top 10 after several weeks spent in the top 20. However, I'm more glad to see that Die Aerzte and their marvellous "Lasse redn" manage to divert the downward trend and to go back in the top 10 despite my projections for the quick disappearing of the track. #12 Sugababes - "Denial" - Despite the failiure of "Change", the former single of the Babes' new album, to enter the top 30, the third single from the record succeeds in making a deeper impact in the top 100. As it is, according to me, the better song, I'm happy to see that Germans did not ignore it. "About you now", the first single taken from the album, peaked at #4 last year. #21 Alex C - "Du bist so Porno" - Alex Christensen continues his erotic hit series. However, this time not with the same success as "Du has den schoensten Arsch der Welt" (peak #1) and "Doktorspiele" (peak #4). Since "Porno" is the third single from his "Euphorie" album, the 21st place cannot be at all considered a flop and having in mind that is more or less the same song (with different lyrics only) as the previous two hits, I may say that the top 30 entry is quite a feat. #42 In Extremo - "Frei zu sein" - So far the German folk band has failed in their attempts at making a considerable hit and the new single adds nothing to change the situation. Their biggest singles are "Küss mich" and "Nur ihr allein" both reaching #35. "Frei zu sein" is the debut single from their latest album "Sängerkrieg" #69 Kool Savas - "Melodie" is the second single from Savas' "Tot oder lebendig" album and actually ranks only two places below the peak of the debut song from the record. The German rapper of Turkish descent has not managed so far to score a huge hit on his own as his duet with Azad "All 4 One" is his only top 10 hit. So this is for the current week.
