  1. I think that the German chart is not compiled only from sales but also from airplay, am I wrong?

  4. Good Point! I've just missed the Morning song in my calculation...
  5. As a start, I have to say that never, and I mean really never, in my already 10-year long interest in the German charts, I've seen so much schlager or folk music in it. I don’t know if the carnivals are the reason, but I know that Mr Dj Oetzi has a new single, coming soon… So let’s not elaborate on that and see what’s happening this week. Ooh, Leona has done it again and now she has topped also the album chart. Congratulations! Alex C, famous for his U96 project in the 90s, continues to be extremely hot in Germany. The second single of the Euphoria album does not differ much from the first one "Die schoensten Arsch der Welt" (which even topped the chart in 2007), but that did not prevent it from entering the top 5. The songs may be quite cheesy, but the man has made Europe, and especially Bulgaria ;), to listen to German music again... The sixth place of Gwen Stefani is quite surprising. After all, "Early Winter" is the fourth single from her Sweet Escape album, and the former single "Now That You Got It" flopped outside the top 70. However, the performance of "Cool" from her previous album though also a fourth single, was quite successful in Germany. So I guess Germans are in the mood for such cosy songs. Well done! #10 Markus Becker - Yeah, I hate when my predictions turn to be right. The red horse is unfortunately top ten, at last. #18 Tim Toupet - Ole, Germans like doners! Top 10 next week perhaps? #20 Ashley Tisdale - She of the High School Musical fame appears to be quite popular in Germany. I don't know if there is any other chart, in which she scores so well. I'm glad for her, as the songs deserve to be popular and frankly she is quite better than Vanessa Hudgens. Her previous single "He said, she said" peaked at #17. #21 Michael Jackson – Yes, the man needs cash obviously, but he could have tried at least to shoot a video for this one. Stingy MJ! #26 Hoehner - Once again, this song is heading towards the top 10. #31 A Fine Frenzy - As I said last week, the future for this song looks quite bright. #41 Joern Schloenvoigt – The 3rd single of the German actor is not a huge success but actually its performance is better than the 2nd one. I don’t think that his career as a musician would last long. #42 Simple Plan – Well done for the boys. I’m sure that no-one has expected the song to have made a real impact on the Top 100. It hasn’t… #70 King Family – It’s such a shame, a nice song like this and such a bad placing. Oh, I guess Germans prefer to ride the red horse instead… #77 Jack Johnson – He’s an album artist after all… So see ya next week. With more red horses, cowboys and doners….

  7. So new week, new comments :) So after the flood of new entries last week not much changes in the top 10 and Leona Lewis is once again unsuprisingly queen of the chart. The first new entry comes in at #7, with the second single from the latest album of the legendary German band Die Aerzte. The first single "Junge" though a small seller debuted at #1. Typically for the guys, the video is much better than the song itself. A place below enters Lenny Kravitz with his comeback single "I'll be waiting", the 1st single from his forthcoming 8th album. I don't know for you, but I can't shake myself from the feeling that he is singing one and the same song for quite awhile, only with different lyrics. Perhaps he is waiting for inspiration?!? So what about the rest of the chart. #19 Achim Petry - It seems that the influx of weird songs in the German chart is set to continue. What can I say about Achim? His father is Wolfgang Petry, not a stranger to this chart with his song titled "the longest single of the world". Let's hope that Achim will be soon out of the top 20. #24 Stanfour - Though at first it seemed that the song is to be a flop, the guys managed to climb from outside the top 50 and are to enter the top 20 soon. #29 Massiv - As regards peak position, that is the biggest hit for the German rapper so far, while he is most famous with the Wenn der Mond in mein Ghetto kracht from last year. #41 Ida Corr, #42 A Fine Frenzy, #44 James Blunt - All of them are going up in their second week which bodes well for the songs future in the Hot 100. #48 Dave Gahan - I told you so... #54 Mehdi - When Will I Be Famous, he asks. Not today my man, not today... #58 Bullet For My Valentine - They make music which I can't stand, but the 58 place is not at all bad for the first song of their new album. #67 Troy & Gabriela - The High School Musical mania goes on, but the songs are much better in the film not as separate singles. So go, rent the movie and sing along, till the next week ;)
  8. Because they don't care about that chart ;) and especially for that MTV which we have here in Bulgaria. Watch MTV Hits instead :)

    # 53 Duke Spirit – The Step And The Walk # 27 Elliot Minor - Still Figuring Out # 32 Hot Chip – Ready For The Floor # 5 Kelly Rowland – Work # 18 Mary J Blige - Just Fine # 22 One Night Only – Just For Tonight (Downloads) # 37 Atomic Kitten – Anyone Who Had A Heart # 12 David Jordan – Sun Goes Down # 41 Duffy – Rockferry # 25 Kylie Minogue – Wow # 35 Michael Jackson feat Will.I.Am - The Girl Is Mine 2008 # 3 Rihanna – Don’t Stop The Music (Others) # 30 Amy MacDonald – This Is The Life # 15 Jay Sean – Ride It Bonus #1: Will Basshunter – Now You’re Gone still(?) be Number 1? YES Bonus #2: Will Soulja Boy – Crank That still be in the Top 10? NO Bonus #3: Will Leon Jackson – When You Believe still be in the Top 40? YES
  10. Hi Bobiloko, I'm appreciating your passion for the Euro Top 20. My interest in music was also triggered by the MTV European Top 20 but it was long ago, i think in May 1993 ;), and back then there was only one MTV, the one and only music channel, there was no cable TV, so MTV in Bulgaria was something extremely rare. However I had the opportunity to watch a bit of the chart and completely fell in love with the entire concept of a music channel. And until now I still haven't lost that love. However, MTV changed a lot since then, it broke down into separate channels and when the Euro Top 20 on MTV Germany became different from the one in Bulgaria I've thought that something was not right. So I gradually turned my affection to more real charts like the UK and German ones... But that's just me, if you like the current Top 20, watch it and enjoy it. By the way, do you know what MTV will be launched in Bulgaria as I know that the current will be history in a while.
  11. Yeah, her success is absolutely huge and quite deserved as the song is brilliant! As my comments refer only to the German chart, I may say that Girls Aloud had only a moderate success in the country with The Sound of the Underground, and that was it. I'm not even sure whether they entered the top 50 at all. The attempts of Will Young for a breakthrough there unfortunately failed and yes Gareth was massive in Germany, but he is actually not a winner :) As for Shayne Ward, I also think that he deserves to be famous in Germany. But I don't see it coming. At least not for the time being. And thanks for reading my long, long comments :music:
  12. So finally something is happening in the German singles chart, with a new number one and a lot of new entries. So let's get started... As it is more than obvious Leona Lewis is no longer only a UK artist. She has become international and has managed to knock Timbo off the top. That directly makes her the most successful X factor winner outside UK. So what next - maybe the USA? We'll see. As for the man itself Timbaland, he has nothing to worry about, after "only" eight weeks at the peak position. A place below at #3 lands the debut single of Swiss soul singer Stefanie Heinzmann. She has become famous after winning the SSDSDSSWEMUGABRTLAD talent competition of one of the most famous German TV entertainers Stefan Raab. The single not suprisingly topped the Swiss charts and her debut album is to be out in early March. I think however that this song will be her one and only hit.... As for the rest of the top ten not many changes have happened, with the exception of the new version of Olaf Henning's Cowboy und Indianer entering at #8. As the carnivals are approaching, I think that we'll see a lot of party hits (schlager) in the chart and as the songs of acts like DJ Oetzi, Hoehner and Markus Becker will echo in every single German pub out there. In that relation I will have also to mention the big jump of Peter Wackel from #64 to #22 So what about the other new entries this week: #13 Jimi Blue - All Alone - Mr Blue appears to have more potential as I've previously reckoned that he will remain only a one hit wonder. However, with his second single he managed to score a second top 20 hit. The first single of the TV actor-turned-singer "I'm loving" peaked at #5 and actually was quite more bearable than the second one. #16 Fler - Deutscha Bad Boy - A quite surprising new entry in the top 20 as Fler is not exactly the German rapper who sets the charts on fire. His only song to have done better is NDW 2005, which peaked at #9. #23 Dave Gahan - Saw Something - Unlike UK, the Depeche Mode frontman is quite popular in Germany and the #23 is not at all surprising. It will however be a shock if he manages to fall with a less than 20 places next week. #29 Dynamite Deluxe - Dynamit - A formation around German rapper Samy Deluxe. That is the first single of the group to enter the German charts. #30 Martin Stosch - Zeit meines Lebens - One of the runnerups of the last season of the German Music Idol (DSDS), beaten of course by the one and only Mark Medlock. #34 Backstreet Boys - Helpless When She Smiles - The boys, or the men if you prefer, score another top 40 single in Germany. As a lacklustre song as it is, I really hope that they will eventually quit someday. "Quit playing games with my heart", boys! Just call it off and leave the German chart alone! #39 Tim Toupet - Ich bin ein Doener - Does a song which is called "I'm a doner kebap" needs my attention. Absolutely not. #45 Ida Corr vs. Fedde le Grand - Let Me Think About It - Not quite the hit which has been in UK but the song is still one of the hottest dance tunes in Germany. #47 Axel Fischer - Der Eskimo Tanz - Blah! #49 A Fine Frenzy - Almost Lover - A completely new artist for me, and to the German chart. That is the first single of her debut album One Cell In the Sea #62 James Blunt - Same Mistake - Oops, what a flop! 1973, the first single, peaked at #2 and is still in the top 30! #68 Bernd Stelter - “Hörst Du Die Regenwürmer Husten” - No comment #83 Jürgen & Mickie Krause “Wir Ham St. Anton Überlebt” - No comment 2 #96 Mickie Krause “Ich Glaub Hier Ist Doch Wieder Alkohol Im Spiel” - Oh you guessed it. No comment 3 :) ! Viva folk musik. I hope that they are people enthusiastic enough to read my comments and come next week, with a little new entries pleaseeee
  13. Hi Guys, I just don't get it  ... Why are you so interested in MTV European top 20, as it is entirely made up chart and has nothing to do with what is actually buying or listening on the continent. But I also hope that MTV Hits will be on more cable tvs in Bulgaria, but I also want MTV 2, MTV Dance and MTV Base. Maybe I want too much :funky:

  15. Quite right, it's related to tonnes of beer after all :hic:
  16. So here are my new (& improved ;) ) comments. #1 Timbaland - Oh, I'm tired of commenting on him..., Go Leona, go... #9 Cascada - What Hurts The Most Cascada's biggest hit in Germany is of course "Everytime we touch", with a peak at #5 and 18 weeks in the chart. And as it becomes clear, "What hurts the most", the first single from the "Perfect Day" album, will be a massive hit too. To my surprse the single was originally recorded and covered by country acts in the USA, most prominent of them being Rascal Flatts. #11 Maroon 5 - Won't Go Home Without You To me the performance of the song is quite unexpected, as "Makes me wonder" the first single from the album was only an average hit (#11 peak; 11 weeks) and the second one, "Wake Up Call" was more or less a flop (peak 41, 11 weeks). So the entry of the third single at #11 was hard to be projected. It's a good song though. So place ypur bets whether it will remain for 11 weeks in the countdown ;) #18 Markus Becker feat. Mallorca Cowboys - Das Rote Pferd - The fact that this bloody awful single is climbing 10 places in its second week means only one thing. The next DJ Oetzi is on the horizon. I predict a top ten placing next week. Hope I'm wrong. #28 Mika - Happy Ending - Though I'm a huge fan of Mika and especially of this song, I'm not disappointed by its entry at #28. As a fourth single from the "Life in Cartoon Motion" album in Germany, that is quite a feat actually. And for reminder the performance of the other three singles - "Grace Kelly" (peak 4; 23 weeks), "Relax Take It Easy" (peak 4; 21 weeks) and "Big Girl" (peak 19; 14 weeks). All of them entered the Top 100 Year-end chart. Quite impressive! #34 Baby Lilly - Hello Papi - Oh my God, they keep coming and coming. The fans of Pinocchio and Pigloo are celebrating  #48 Sean Kingston - Me Love - As expected, for now mr "annoying" Kingston is a one-hit wonder. A flop in UK, not quite impressive in Gerrmany as well. The first single "Beautiful Girls" peaked at #10 and was 14 weeks in the chart. #52 Oomph! - Wach Auf - The new single of the German metal band actually features in the local version of the soundtrack for Aliens vs Predator: Requiem. I don't know while Höhner are re/entering the chart, perhaps Germans drank too much beer over the holidays. Viva Coloniaaaaaaaa
  17. No problem, I'll keep that in mind ;)

  19. Uhuu From the first time at #12 :D
  20. As my comments on Friday disappeared somewhere  and I promised to comment on the German chart every week, I'll have to do it once more... So As it is seen - Most of the bigger hits of 2007 are climbing up the chart, i guess the year-end chart has some effect on that. The number one - with a minor competition, it is no surprise that Timbaland remains at the top. Not bad for a third single from his album. It actually is also included in the soundtrack of a German movie with Till Schweiger. DJ Oetzi - Finger crossed that he will go out someday So a lot of re-entries. The highest new entry is actually an old hit. Markus Becker and his Red Horse - A massive hit among German tourists in the summer of 2007. The first time around the song had a little impact on the chart. I still haven't heard the new version, but I can bet it is more or less the same. Finger crossed this is not the new DJ Oetzi... As for Pur - a funny, but somehow legendery, German group with a lot of bad haircuts in there. Don't know what this mix is, i guess they are just cashing in Enough said, I hope the next week will bring a fresh blood to the chart. :)

The things which I don't like about them are that they tend to make annoying comments on some of the artists and don't play all the songs but instead are chatting some stupid things
  22. Oh, I even hope that I'll do best next time ;)
  23. My First Time in the Game ;) #4 Basshunter – Now You’re Gone # 22 Bodyrox feat Luciana - What Planet You On? # 30 British Sea Power – Waving Flags # 17 Hoosiers – Worst Case Scenario # 32 Maccabees – Toothpaste Kisses (Downloads) #41 Kanye West ft Chris Martin - Homecoming #10 Rihanna – Don’t Stop The Music #12 Britney Spears – Piece Of Me (Others) # 42 Kaiser Chiefs – Ruby # 37 Kate Nash – Pumpkin Soup # 39 Mika – Relax Take It Easy # 14 Nickleback - Rockstar # 22 Sugababes – About You Now # 47 Take That - Shine Bonus #1: Will Soulja Boy – Crank That still be in the Top 5? Yes Bonus #2: Will Rihanna - Umbrella still be in the Top 20? No Bonus #3: Will Scouting For Girls – She’s So Lovely still be in the Top 40? Yes
  24. So here are my comments on the singles chart: A lot of old singles still hanging around. I am actually quite puzzled as some of them are still sounding fresh like Mark Ronson and Kaiser Chiefs, but others are already quite annoying. Rihanna's Umbrella especially. 1.Leon Jackson - As expected he remains at the top. A cheesy song, but OK after all. 2.Soulja Boy - I don't get all the fuzz. Am I the only one? 14 N 1 Now You're Gone, Basshunter - Yeah It was a huge hit in Europe (here in Bulgaria as well), and the English lyrics are not hurting the track either. I think it will be massive in the UK / 4* 19 46 3 Piece Of Me, Britney Spears - Actually, quite better than the 1st single. But poor Britney, I hope we'll see the day when the media leave her alone.../3* 20 49 3 Relax, Take It Easy, MIKA - A massive hit in Europe in the summer. But anything by Mika is massive. So...:) /5* 30 N 1 Conquest, The White Stripes - I've never thought that I would become crazy about a track by the White Stripes - But that's really rocking/5*. 41 69 2 Homecoming, Kanye West - The best song of Kanye - And I guess that not everyone will agree with me but I love it/ 5* 51 Theme To St. Trinian's, Girls Aloud - A good song. A bad placement. It's pitty that the girls are only popular in the UK / 4* 73 N 1 B Boy Baby, Mutya Buena - Yeah, she is definitely an album artist, but the song is an ace / 4*
  25. So here are my comments on the chart :) I will overlook all Christmas songs, as I expect them to be out in the next week or two. And I'm not already in the mood to comment on them :) Another week for Timbo on the top, well deserved. Well deserved also for Ich+Ich, one of the best German acts around. Room 2012 - As I've already said - I've expected a Number One from them, but for now new Monrose they are not ... Stanfour - The Viva music channel likes them a lot. I don't. Fair place Killerpilze - They are not definitely my favourite German group, but I actually like that song. Its placement is however expected. Kelly Clarkson - Somewhat expected mega flop. So I think that she has to focus on a new material, or she will be well forgotten in a year. Pitty!
