  1. German chart comments - Issue date - 18.02.2011 As it was to be expected over the last weeks, Bruno Mars has scored his first number one in Germany with "Grenade", which moves up one and replaces Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" at the summit. Thus, the US star can already congratulate himself with the fact that "Grenade" reached #1 in UK, USA and Germany. Video We all know that unlike UK (oh, how wrong they are), Hurts are massive in Germany and the British duo proves this once again with their second single "Stay" which shoots itself directly at #3. "Wonderful Life", their previous single, already sold a giant amount of copies, reaching #2 and standing in the top ten for ages. Of course, the fact that "Stay" is included in the soundtrack of the latest blockbuster movie of Til Schweiger "Kokowääh" (in which you can watch our own Samuel Finci) doesn't hurt at all. Having in mind the success of OneRepublic's "Secrets" and Keri Hilson's "I Like", which were also used as music for one of his movies, it's a sure thing to say that Mr. Schweiger does wonders to the music charts... Video The next new entry comes in at #10, belonging to local legend Herbert Grönemeyer. "Schiffsverkehr", the lead single to the new, 13th, album of Herbert (which you may expect to sell in millions), turns to be yet another top ten single for the superstar. He was last in the top ten with the great "Komm zur Ruhr" in 2010. Grönemeyer also launches a tour across Germany this summer, which I'm sure will be worth attending to. Video Further down the charts, Ella Endlich's 2009 hit "Küss Mich, Halt Mich, Lieb Mich" is having a second life and this week jumps 44 places to #30. The song peaked at #12 first time around. Video And the remaining new entries with videos: #43 Dominik Büchele - Hazel Eyes - Not a bad entry for one of the guy who placed fourth at the 2009 edition of DSDS. Video #48 Höhner - Carneval - The title says it all, despite that this is not the new Viva Colonia for sure. Video-live #50 Glee - Don't Stop Believin' - The Glee mania has finally hit Germany, though I don't think that the airing on Super RTL will draw any big audience, which, let's face it, is a real shame ;) Video links active here: http://yantk.blogspot.com/2011/02/german-c...ue-date_18.html
  2. German chart comments - Issue date - 11.02.2011 Yes, despite the increasing competition from Bruno Mars' "Grenade" (this week up to #2), Adele continues to be the queen of the German singles chart with "Rolling In The Deep", which stands atop for a second week in a row. Video Diddy (or P.Diddy, or Puff Daddy) also sets the top ten on fire by flying #10-#4 with "Coming Home", which becomes the hip-hop star's fourth most successful single in Germany next to "Missing You" (#1 of course); "Come with Me" (#3 for the great track) and "Satisfy You" (#2 - really?). Video After making a huge jump in the second week, this time German band Culcha Candela advances further and its "Berlin City Girl" peaks at #11. Video The honour for the highest charting new hit goes to Flo Rida, who follows his extremely successful "Club Can't Handle Me" (this week #53), with "Turn Around (5, 4, 3, 2, 1)" at the quite respectful #15. Video The bigger news is however at #18, where legendary Swedish duo Roxette makes a chart appearance for yet another decade. Not only they are back in the charts, but "She's Got Nothing On (But The Radio)" becomes Roxette's highest peaking single in Germany since "Sleeping in My Car" made #11 in 1994, which is quite an achievement. Roxette's biggest hits in Germany are their two number ones - "The Look" and "Joyride". Last Per and Marie were in the Top 100 in 2006 with "One Wish", which reached #50. Video At #20 we can find the slowly but steadily climbing "Hello" of Martin Solveig & Dragonette, which enters the top 20 for the first time in its several-month run in the countdown. Video And the rest of the new entries with videos: #31 R.I.O. - Like I Love You Video #67 Loona vs Movetown - El Cucaracho - El Muchacho - I may be one of the few who remember how big Loona was several years ago... Video #78 Klaas & Bodybangers - Freak Video #80 Die Zipfelbuben feat. Dschungel Allstars 2011 - Jetzt Wird Es Heiss Video #82 Jasper Forks - Alone Video #90 Slash feat. Fergie - Beautiful Dangerous Video Video links here - http://yantk.blogspot.com/2011/02/german-c...ue-date_11.html
  3. German chart comments - Issue date - 28.01.2011 Still there is nothing going on at the top of the German singles chart, with Black Eyed Peas' "Time" standing there for a fourth week in a row. It's up to Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" to make some action in the top ten as it jumps six positions to peak at #3. Video The highest new entry of the week comes in at #8. "Grenade" is of course the follow-up to Bruno (I'm so hot right now) Mars' number two smash "Just The Way You Are". The song has already been atop the UK and US charts and is definitely a contender for the top spot in Germany in the weeks to come. Video Two worthy feats happen at #11, where Milk & Sugar's rendition of Vaya Con Dios' classic Hey (Nah Neh Nah) jumps from #32. First, the song becomes easily the DJ duo's biggest hit so far, beating the #33 peak of "Love Is In The Air", and second, it manages to beat the #16 peak the original reached in 1990. Video The second new entry of the week belongs to German band Beatsteaks at #35. "Milk and Honey" is the pilot single of the guys' latest album "Boombox" and also has the honour to be their second best performing song after "Jane Became Insane" (peak #23) from 2007. Video Next up, at #37 is the latest from French DJ Bob Sinclar. "Tik Tok", a collaboration with Sean Penn, of course samples the number-two hit "No Limit" by 2 Unlimited from 1992. Sinclar's most successful single in Germany is the soccer anthem "Love Generation" which was the hit of 2005 in the country. Video And the rest of the new entries are: #44 Willow - Whip My Hair - Not a great entry for Will Smith's daughter and certainly a far cry from the #2 success in UK. Video #53 Culcha Candela - Berlin City Girl - Definitely to rise in the next weeks. Video #54 Kings of Leon - Pyro - Definitely to fall in the next weeks. Video #88 Prinz Pi - Du Bist Video #89 Christina Aguilera - Show Me How You Burlesque Song Video links here - http://yantk.blogspot.com/2011/01/german-c...ue-date_31.html
  4. German chart comments - Issue date - 21.01.2011 It's all silent in the German top five this week, with Black Eyed Peas, IZ, Empire of the Sun, Katy Perry and Duck Sauce all retaining their positions. The only fresh movement in the top ten comes from Adele, whose "Rolling In The Deep" rises four notches to make a new peak at #9. Video It's also good to see OneRepublic's amazing "Good Life" entering the top 20 for the first time by rising ten places to #19. Video The honour for the highest new entry goes to Kesha's "We R Who We R", which enters at #23. Despite being a huge hit in USA, and actually so far unavailable as an album track, the song marks the lowest peak of any of Kesha's songs released in Germany. "Tik Tok" made #1, while "Your Love Is My Drug" and "Blah Blah Blah" both entered the top 20. Video Not great news also for Mike Posner. "Please Don't Go", his follow-up to the still hot "Cooler Than Me", stumbles outside the top 30 at #40, while his debut single reached #22, but stayed among the first 30 for several months. Video Further down the chart, "Invincible", Tinie Tempah's collaboration with Kelly Rowland succeeds to become his most successful single in Germany by entering at #46. It is however still a far cry from the success of Taio Cruz for example. Video And as long as the other new entries are concerned, all of them indicate that this year's carnivals are coming but most of all that the winter resort parties are at their peak. See for yourself: #48 Markus Becker - Wir Wollen Feiern! Video #77 Mickie Krause feat. Ko&Ko - Schatzi, Schenk Mir Ein Foto! Video #79 Tim Toupet - Ein Diamant Video #98 Andrea Berg - Du Kannst Noch Nicht Mal Richtig Lügen Video Video links here: http://yantk.blogspot.com/2011/01/german-c...ue-date_25.html
  5. German chart comments - Issue date - 14.01.2011 As Black Eyed Peas score a second week at the top with "The Time (Dirty Bit)", the only movements worth mentioning in the top 10 is the #7-#4 jump of Katy Perry's "Firework", which makes a new peak, and the #13-#9 rise of David Guetta and Rihanna's "Who's That Chick". The latter surprisingly still has no official video to support it. The highest new entry this week belongs to UK singer Adele. "Rolling In The Deep" marks the release of Adele's second album "21" and by coming in at #13 is her first song to chart in the top 20 in Germany and actually to be a hit. Adele had only one other single charting in Germany, which is "Chasing Pavements" reaching #46 in 2008. Video Not much going on further down the countdown, apart from Gossip's "Heavy Cross" returning for yet another week in the top 50! At #69 we have a re-entry of "Baker Street", the classic of Gerry Rafferty, who passed away at the start of the year. The song reached #3 when first released in 1978. Video The second and last new entry belongs to Austrian band Holstuonarmusigbigbandclub at #71. The band's music shows their influence from the Austrian province of Vorarlberg and the single's strange German is a good example of this. Video Video links : http://yantk.blogspot.com/2011/01/german-c...ue-date_17.html
  6. Is this the first time when the year-end chart actually covers the entire calender year? In the past years, the year charts were always released during December and in this case IZ would have had no chance to be number one...
  7. German chart comments - Issue date - 24.12.2010 There is no stopping Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole from being number one in Germany for yet another week and as we head towards the year-end charts, the late singer approaches a third month atop of the singles top 100. Whether this will happen, we'll see next week. For now IZ stands at number one for an eleventh combined week. IZ also leads a completely steady top five, with all major players keeping their positions from the last week. Video The highest new entry belongs to Taio Cruz, one of the breakout stars of the year, and superstar Kylie Minogue at #10. "Higher" comes after the #5 peak of Taio's "Break Your Heart" and the #3 hit "Dynamite". As long as Kylie is concerned, the single returns her to the top 10 after the disappointing performance of her last chart entry in Germany - "Get Outta My Way" (peak #41). Video On the way down we should not forget to mention that MJ has another top ten hit in Germany as his "Hold My Hand" jumps eleven places to peak at #7. Video The second highest new entry comes from newcomers LaVive and "No Time For Sleeping". LaVive are the latest girl band to emerge from the still popular Popstars casting show in Germany. This is of course the show that gave us No Angles, Bro'Sis and the recently disbanded Monrose. All the aforementioned witnessed their debut singles shooting up straight at the top of the charts, so far now the prospects before LaVive are more towards Room2012 and Some and Any fate. It's a catchy pop song though. Video The next new entry comes from Pitbull at #28 and sees the US rapper in the top 30 for a fourth time in a row. "Hey Baby (Drop It To The Floor)" marks the release of his latest album "Planet Pit". Pitbull's biggest hit in the country is "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)" which reached #8 in 2009. Video It's a shame that one of the best German bands has to see its latest single outside the top 40. Having in mind however that this is the fourth single taken from Ich + Ich's five-time gold album "Gute Reise", the entry of "Hilf Mir" at #45 is not so surprising after all. Video The biggest news of the week however is down at #54, where "Real Love", the latest offering of Sarah Connor charts. With this new entry, Sarah, one of the singers with the most steady chart careers in the last ten years, registers her least successful single ever. Not only that, but "Real Love" is her first ever song to chart outside the top #30 (and actually she had only two songs charting outside the top 20 before that). From now on, the path which Sarah Connor's career will take will be an interesting thing to be watched... Video And the only other new entry this week: #82 Alex Max Band - Only One Video (links here - http://yantk.blogspot.com/2010/12/german-c...e-date_27.html)
  8. German chart comments - Issue date - 17.12.2010 So instead of going down and leaving the way clear for new tracks to climb towards the top, Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole makes his revenge this week by returning to the number one for yet another, actually a tenth week. As it seems, Germany is on the path to end 2010 on an old note, unless Black Eyed Peas don't do something to prevent it. The latter's "The Time (Dirty Bit)" rises this week to #2. Thus, it's a shame that the highest new entry fails to enter the top 10 by a notch. "Firework" is of course the third single taken from Katy Perry "Teenage Dream" album. By entering at #11 it is for now the first single of Perry to miss the top 10 since "Waking Up in Vegas" in 2009. It is a great song though and should go higher in the next weeks. Video Next up is the return of legendary Michael Jackson to the charts. "Hold My Hand" is a collaboration with Akon and marks the release of Michael's first posthumous album "Michael". Unfortunately, as this is not a 100% work of MJ, it lacks any of the appeal of his best moments and is quite an unremarkable track. This makes the entry at #18 quite an achievement. Video The next new entry comes in at #26, belonging to OneRepublic. "Good Life" is the fourth single taken from the guys' "Waking Up" LP and therefore it's entry in the top 30 is more than a success. Still, as this is one of the most uplifting songs of the winter, I wish it was a little bit higher. Video As it is the tradition at this time of the year, the singles charts are flooded by Christmas-themed songs, which most of the time are led by classics such as Wham's "Last Christmas". This week, however, we have two completely new tracks, which are more than welcome to bring some fresh air in terms of festive spirit. The songs in question are Train's "Shake Up Christmas" at #36 and Coldplay's "Christmas Lights" at #37. Video - Train Video - Coldplay And the rest new entries with videos: #51 Justin Bieber - Pray Video #60 Monrose - Breathe You In - It's a shame that the goodbye single of girl group Monrose enters the chart at such a low point. It easily becomes their least successful single and if it wasn't for it, the girls would have had only top 30 singles in their career. Still with #1s "Shame" and "Hot Summer", five more top ten hits and three top 30 ones, Mandy, Senna and Bahar became among the most successful pop acts in Germany in the new century. They were also the second most successful winners of the Popstars casting show, next to No Angels. Video #65 Phil Collins - Going Back Video #69 The Black Pony - Boys Are Crazy Video #76 30 Seconds To Mars feat. Kanye West - Hurricane 2.0 Song #78 House Rockerz - Herzrasen Video Video links here - http://yantk.blogspot.com/2010/12/german-c...ue-date_20.html
  9. German chart comments - Issue date - 10.12.2010 So it finally happened! After nine weeks on top of the German singles chart, Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole has retreated from the number one slot. What is more interesting though is that he is replaced there by Empire Of The Sun's "We Are The People", which as mentioned several times before is actually an old song and therefore marks the first time ever when an old song replaces another oldie at the top in Germany. Video The highest new entry comes in at #6 and is the latest single of David Guetta. Over the last year and a half Guetta has turned into one of the kings of the chart, with already two top ten hits and one number one in Germany. "Who's That Chick?" sees the French DJ and producer collaborating with superstar Rihanna. The latter this week makes a double feat in the top ten as her own "Only Girl (In The World)" stands at #7. Video The second new entry belongs to Far East Movement and charts at #16. "Like A G6" is one of the biggest global hits currently and has already reached #1 in USA. It is the first chart entry of the group in Germany. Video A place below Far East Movement enters the newest single from Thomas D. Apart from his glory days as part of Die Fantastischen Vier, Thomas D. has had his solo success in Germany with modern classics such as "Solo" (peak #15), the wonderful "Wish (Komm zu mir)" (peak #5) and "Liebesbrief" (peak #9). "Million Voices (7 Seconds)" samples the number-three smash of Youssou N’Dour and Neneh Cherry "7 Seconds" from 1994. Video Further down the top 100, we can see the Christmas singles all moving forward towards the top 20, once again led by Wham! (at #23) and Melanie Thornton (at #43). We also have a relatively low, though unsurprising, new entry from Medina at #59 and a new single from schlager star Buddy at #69. Video - Buddy (live) Video - Medina video links - http://yantk.blogspot.com/2010/12/german-c...ue-date_12.html
  10. German chart comments - Issue date - 03.12.2010 As it seems IZ is going to end 2010 as the absolute king of the German singles chart, as his "Over The Rainbow" makes a ninth week on the top of it. Not only that but the two-year old "We Are The People" of Empire Of The Sun makes a new peak at #2. Thus, perhaps for the first time ever, the German charts are completely dominated by two old songs... Video Video The biggest new hit of the week comes from Unheilig, whose first proper single, "Geboren um zu leben" has definitely become one of the biggest hits of the year by standing in the top 20 for ages and is still at #18. "Winterland" is the third single of the German band to make it to the top ten and also the second most successful. It's chart placing in the top five is to be attributed to the fact that it comes from the special, winter edition of Unheilig's latest album. And it's not that "Große Freiheit" is not the most sold album of 2010 and the most successful German album ever, but the record company obviously wants more and more... Video Another new entry can be found at #7, belonging to The Black Eyed Peas and "The Time (Dirty Bit)", their take on the Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes' 80s classic "(I've Had) The Time of My Life", which reached #5 in Germany. The BEP's version is one of these songs which you either hate or adore, and regardless of your opinion of it, the song becomes the band's eleventh top ten single in Germany (even without a video during the time when the chart was calculated). A good beginning for the new album of Fergie and co. Video It's not that Revolverheld has had never top 20 singles, with "Helden 2010" even peaking at #2, but after their last release "Keine Liebeslieder" crashed and burned at #74, it's a little bit unexpected to see their latest entering the top ten at #8. "Halt Dich An Mir Fest" is a collaboration with Marta Jandova, the lead singer from band Die Happy, who themselves have never scored a top 40 hit. Video After the Eurovision success of "Glow" (still in the top 30), Norway's band Madcon manages to bring this week the follow-up single directly in the top 20 as "Freaky Like Me" enters new at #12. The last new entry in the top 30 comes from Duffy, who is burdened with the tough task to follow her extremely popular debut album (with the number one "Mercy") with a sophomore LP. Thus "Well Well Well", the pilot single from "Endlessly", comes new at #24. Not a spectacular entry, but at least a far cry from the fiasco in the UK top 40. And though many will say the song is awful, it is actually a quite catchy tune ... Video- Madcon Video - Duffy And the remaining new entries with videos: 38 Frida Gold - Zeig Mir Wie Du Tanzt - all the VIVA support didn't help... Video 69 Gary Baker feat. Popstars - I Swear - the All-4-One version from 1994 reached #1 in Germany. http://yantk.blogspot.com/2010/12/german-c...issue-date.html
  11. German chart comments - Issue date - 26.11.2010 While IZ marks a second month atop the German singles chart, it's up to Bruno Mars and his first solo single to challenge the crown. "Just The Way You Are", which already hits number one in UK and USA, was always destined to be a huge hit in Germany and by entering at #2 cements the song status as one of the global hits of 2010. It improves by far the performance of Mars' other appearances in the chart as a guest singer for B.o.B. ("Nothin’ on You" reached #22) and Travie McCoy ("Billionaire" peaked at #16). Video The next new entry of the week comes in at #9. Edita Abdieski is the first winner of the German X Factor edition and as I've heard the show impact in Germany has nothing to do with the success of Deutschland sucht den Superstar. Nevertheless, "I've Come To Life" succeeds to penetrate the top ten with almost zero promotion (it had no video at the time the chart was calculated) and manages to turn the music fans attention to the singer (at least mine). Time will tell, whether the current rotation on VIVA will have any impact on the sales. Video The #17 sees the return of US rap star Nelly to the chart after a two-year absence. Not only that but Nelly hasn't been in the top 20 since "Nasty Girl" in 2005. His biggest hit in Germany is of course the number one smash "Dilemma" but perhaps it is more interesting that the man has four songs which peaked at #8 in the country. Video Further down the countdown, rock band (is this rock really?) Linking Park bring another song to the top 30, with "Waiting For The End". Despite not among the guys' best chart placements, it at least is not a complete flop as in other parts of the world. Video It is a shame that one of the best German bands from the last few years, Polarkreis 18, fails to enter the top 30 with its newest single, the beautiful "Unendliche Sinfonie". The song comes new at #35 and is a far cry from the number one success of "Allein Allein". The new song marks the release of the boys' fourth studio album. Video And the remaining new entries with videos: #49 Victoria S - One In A Million Video #56 Selena Gomez & The Scene - A Year Without Rain - It's a good pop song but has the honour to be the least successful chart-entering single of Selena in Germany. Video #61 Tim Berg - Seek Bromance - This catchy dance track has to be higher. Video #67 Reamonn - Colder Video #77 Fabian Buch - Merry, Merry Christmas Video The video links are active on my blog - http://yantk.blogspot.com/2010/11/german-c...ue-date_29.html
  12. Yes, but the links on the videos will not work. Nevertheless, here they are German chart comments - Issue date - 19.11.2010 It seems that no-one has the power for the time being to remove IZ from the top of the German singles chart, where the singer from Hawaii stands for a seventh week in a row. The biggest news in the top three is the #22-#3 jump of Empire Of The Sun's "We Are The People". As I wrote last week, the song, now some two years old, was used in an advertisement, which as it seems triggered a huge demand and managed to propel it to the upper reaches of the countdown. We may say a lot of negative things about the influence of TV on music consumption these days, but when the song is actually this good, who cares? Video Two new singles enter the chart in its top ten. First of them is Pink, whose "Raise Your Glass" marks the release of the superstar first best of album. As a record, it is a typical Pink song, with more or less a typical Pink video. But actually the formula works for yet another time, as "Raise Your Glass" is Pink's twelfth top ten single in Germany. Video A place behind Pink, at #6, comes another global superstar, in the face of Shakira. Her previous single "Waka Waka" is currently battling for the crown of the best selling song in Germany for 2010, while her latest "Loca" comes from the freshly released "Sale El Sol" LP. It is Shakira's ninth top ten single in Germany. Video As they were deprived from the #1 spot in their native UK, the boys from Take That also fail to bring their latest single "The Flood" in the top 10 in Germany. We all know what is the special about the song, as it includes the vocals of Robbie Williams for the first time after he left the group 15 years ago. Still, this, unfortunately, was not enough to result in enormous sales for the great song and it charts new at #12. As a matter of fact, after their reunion in 2006, Take That had only one top ten single in Germany with the number-one "Patience", while Mr. Williams continues to be one of the biggest stars in the country, far more successful than in the UK. Nevertheless, we can be sure that the latest album of the guys will be sold in enormous quantities in Germany as it broke records in UK. Video The next new entry comes in at #17 from Eminem, whose previous offering "Love the Way You Lie" was (and is still) a big hit in Germany. His lastest, "No Love", comes on the waves of a lot of criticism on how Eminem has handled the 90s eurodance classic "What Is Love" by Haddaway. Thus, depending on your point of view, you will hate it or love it. And, surprisingly Haddaway was never number one in Germany... Video At #24 we can find "Who Owns My Heart", the latest offering by teen sensation Miley Cyrus. She may be adored by children and teens all around the world, but Miley has only three top 30 singles in Germany, with this being one of them... Video Further down the chart, German legend Nena brings her latest single at #39. "Haus Der Drei Sonnen" is a collaboration with Peter Heppner and is a remake of a Nena single from 1985. The new version is included in Nena's forthcoming best of album and at least manages to improve on the original's #43 peak. Video And the rest new entries are: #47 Yann Tiersen - Comptine D'Un Autre Été, L'Après Midi - Taken from the soundtrack of Ameli, I guess an advertisement or a casting show is the reason behind its entry now (Oh, sometimes I wish to live in Germany to know such details...) Video #51 Fettes Brot - Amsterdam - A great song, check it out! Video #78 The Wombats - Tokyo - The first song of the UK band to enter the German charts. Video #81 Remady feat. Lumidee - No Superstar Video #84 Afrojack feat. Eva Simons - Take Over Control - Great party track Video #89 Brings - Wir Wollen Niemals Auseinander Geh'n Video #90 Wir Sind Helden - Bring Mich Nach Hause Video #94 My Chemical Romance - Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na) Video

  17. Hi guys, you can now read my German chart comments with videos on my blog http://yantk.blogspot.com (just skip the Austrian stuff)
  18. Hi guys, I hope I'll be able to restart the German chart comments from the next week...
  19. Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 23.07 Finally the World Cup has started to loosen its grip on the German singles charts. Still while some songs, especially those related to the German participation in the tournament, plummet, other show only slight changes or even, in the case of Shakira, remain firm at their previous week's positions. Thus, the official World Cup song is number one for a fifth week, while Lady Gaga's "Alejandro" becomes the first non-football related song to penetrate the top three in the last few weeks by jumping to #2 from #4. The retreat of the football songs leads the way to other relatively underperforming songs to make new peaks. So, Eminem's "Not Afraid" manages to finally enter the top ten at #9, after a slow chart entry at #20 five weeks ago. Kylie's "All The Lovers" also returns to the top ten and Rihanna's "Te Amo" reaches #11. The highest new entry (of only four) belongs to teen sensation Justin Bieber. Despite VIVA playing many of his videos, only a few have actually entered the chart and "Somebody To Love" manages to become Justin's second biggest hit in Germany to date. Let's pay attention also to 2raumwohnung's "36 Grad" (at #36!), which for yet another summer enters the Top 100 and as it seems is heading towards the top 30 in the next weeks. Perfect for the hot summer days, the catchy song has become, to quote a TV presenter, "Last Christmas" of the summer. The other two new entries worth mentioning can be found at #48 and #49, where enter the collaboration between German band Silbermond and the supported by them newcomers Jenix, while another German band Boundzound returns to the chart with the extremely hot "Bang".
  20. Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 16.07 Once again we can blame the time lag in the calculation of the German charts by Media Control as the singles countdown continues to be controlled by the football-themed songs. Thus, Shakira stands at #1 for a fourth week, while Safri Duo & Velile manage to overtake K'Naan and to peak at #2. In this way, the Belgian duo reaches the peak of its most famous hit "Played-a-live" from 10 years ago. The latter this week even climbs to #80. The highest of the what are only three!!! new entries in the entire chart belongs to the unstoppable Lady Gaga, whose "Alejandro" has the honour to become her seventh, out of seven, top ten hits by entering at #4. Once again powered by a great video, and echoing the traditions of Ace of Base, Gaga shows why she is the biggest star right now. Not much going on down the chart, with the exception of the #64-#46 jump of Ginuwine's "Get Involved". The R&B star hasn't been in the top 50 since 1999. At #51 we can find Fabian Buch's "Hello Hello", which appeared in the back of the Top 100 several weeks ago, but now after the release of a proper single and the support of VIVA, the German newcomer manages to chart much higher. The other two new entries include an expectedly low charting of Nickelback at #84 and another football song at #100. No changes at the summit of the LP chart, with Unheilig and Eminem continuing their dominance at #1 and #2, turning into two of the most selling albums of the year. Thus, Kylie Minogue has the honour to at least take the bronze by coming in at #3 with "Aphrodite".
  21. Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 09.07 Having in mind the period of examination, which coincided with Germany being in football fever, it is no strange that there are no changes at the summit of the singles chart, with Shakira, K'Naan and Velile & Safru Duo all keeping their positions from last week. The highest new entry belongs to Checker, aka Thomas Karaoglan, a former participant of DSDS, who brings his debut single, the summer flavoured "Checker der Vollstrecker" at #18. And yes, it was Dieter Bohlen who came first with Thomas' nickname... Following the top-ten success of "Fight for this Love", Cheryl Cole now officially has more singles in the German chart than her group Girls Aloud. That becomes possible as her sophomore solo single "3 Words" enters at #27. A special mentioning to Robert Francis, whose "Junebug" slowly but steadily moves up the German chart and this week enters the top 30. Further down the countdown, at #49 enters "Imma Be", the fifth single taken from Black Eyed Peas' "The End" album. At the same time Amy MacDonald follows the top-ten "Don't Tell Me That It's Over" with the not so impressive entry of "Spark" at #58. At least she is far more popular in Germany than in her native country... A curious appearance at #64, with Ginuwine, whose "Pony" was one of the best R&B singles of the late 1990s. Now he is back with a single which has the "Timbaland" brand written all over it. The highest new entry in the Albums chart can be found as low as #15, where DJ duo Blank & Jones bring their latest CD "Relax Edition Five". Big jumps are registered by Velile, whose debut LP "Tales From Africa" soars to #6 from #28 and Michael Jackson, whose best-of-album rises 37 positions to #16. However, there are no changes at the top, where Eminem once again struggles to take the summit as the Unheilig's great "Große Freiheit" stands at #1 for yet another week.
  22. Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 2.07 The football fever continues to dominate entirely the German singles chart (and despite the country's loss last night will continue to rule the chart in the next two or three weeks) as Shakira, K'Naan and Safri Duo keep the top three unchanged from last week. Not only that but the two highest new entries are also football related and so Uwu Lena and OneRepublic make their way in the top 10 at #4 and #6, respectively. The former is of course a cover of the still hot "Satellite", this year's winner of the Eurovision song contest (this week at #9), and is performed by a group of students from Munster, with Schland actually meaning Germany. As long as the great "Marchin On" is concerned, it is used as an official tournament song by public broadcaster ZDF and thus manages to become yet another top ten hit for OneRepublic who were last in the chart with "All The Right Moves" (peak #14). The biggest no-World Cup news is perhaps the 20-11 jump of Eminem's latest "Not Afraid", which initially somewhat failed to set the charts on fire. It also coincides with the entry of Eminem's latest album at #2 in the LP charts. "Recovery", which already registered great sales in USA and UK, is the sixth top ten album of the rapper in Germany. Other hot debuts in the LP charts come from Miley Cyrus' "Can't Be Tamed" at #4 and thus compensating the not so impressive performance of the lead single (this week still at #29), Bruce Springsteen's "London Calling: Live In Hyde Park" at #6, Ozzy Osbourne's "Scream" at #7 and The Gaslight Anthem's "American Slang" at #8. And returning to the singles charts, two other new entries worth mentioning are Drake's "Find Your Love" and Scissor Sisters' "Fire With Fire", which unfortunately flop outside the top 60.
  23. Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 25.06 There may be a change at the top of the singles chart this week, but The World Cup continues to be dictating the music taste in Germany. So Coca Cola's anthem "Wavin' Flag" falls to #2 after three non-consecutive weeks at the top, leading way to the official song of the South African tournament "Waka Waka" by Shakira to take the reign. This is the fourth #1 song of the Colombian singer in Germany after her debut "Whenever Wherever"; "Hips Don't Lie" and "Beautiful Liar". The top three is rounded by the collaboration between Safri Duo and Velile, the music of which is used by RTL when broadcasting about the football finals. Also due to "king football" German rapper Bushido (who last week was also new to the charts with a song with Fler) brings a new single directly at #6. "Fackeln im Wind 2010" becomes the fifth single of Bushido to make it to the top ten. Jessy Matador, the singer who represented France in the Eurovision contest, brings his song "Allez Ola Olé" new to the charts at #17. It is however debatable whether the song is so high due to its own merits (doubt it), the Eurovision (where it was not so successful) or simply because it is unashamedly perfect for the football fever around the country. Another song from the 21!!! football-related songs in the Top 100 worth mentioning is "Gimme Hope Joachim" by Basta which soars 30 places to peak at #24 this week. This week we cannot however complain about the lack of "proper" new entries with pop divas Katie Perry and Kylie Minogue returning quite successfully to the top ten. "California Gurls", albeit falling prey of the football fever, enters spectacularly at #4, while Kylie Minogue's latest "All The Lovers" comes in at #10, becoming her eighth top ten single in Germany. It's good also to see Madcon entering the top ten with "Glow", which apart from Lena's "Satellite" becomes the most successful "Eurovision" song this year. The girls from Monrose also manage to reverse the negative trend and to bring yet another single in the top ten as "Like a Lady" jumps nine positions to #9. Now the girls have the achievement to have brought all first singles taken from their albums in the top ten. Further two global stars enter the top 20 this week, as Rihanna brings her third "Rated R" single "Te Amo" at #13, while Eminem shows his serious self at #20 with "Not Afraid". Furthermore Miley Cyrus continues to struggle having a big hit in Germany (and in Europe perhaps) as "Can't Be Tamed" despite showing her in a different light enters at #29. So, the girl unfortunately continues to be more tabloid than real star. And we should also pay attention to the way Alexandra Burke follows her top 20 success of "Bad Boys" as "All Night Long" crashes at #60. As long as the LP chart is concerned, German band Unheilig returns once again to the top with its extremely successful "Große Freiheit" album. The guys have also taken the top position in the music DVD chart with the live version of the album. New to the LP chart are also rapper Fler at #4 and the latest German "superstar" Mehrzad Marashi at #5, while Monrose's latest album comes in at #10.
  24. Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 18.06 With the World Cup gaining in momentum and the Eurovision song contest already a history, Lena has to retreat from the summit of the German singles chart and to make way for K'naan's "Wavin' Flag" to return there for a third non-consecutive week. The official tournament song by Shakira also moves up and takes deservingly the runner-up spot, while Lena rounds up the top three. Danish duo Safri Duo has also a reason to celebrate as it returns to the top 10 after more than ten years with "Helele". The football-related song soars to #5 from #11. Sportfreunde Stiller's "'54, '74, '90, 2010" hit also returns to the top 20, after it reached #1 four years ago, when it was actually called "'54, '74, '90, 2006" but after the failure of Germany to win the cup was suitably renamed... ;). Oliver Pocher's inevitable football song "2010 Wir gehen nur zurück, um Anlauf zu nehm'" jumps this week #31 from #44 but is a far cry from the top-three success of "Schwarz und Weiß" four years ago. The Eurovision hype may more or less be over but the biggest new entry this week belongs to Madcon, who entertain Europe before the announcement of the winning results in Oslo. "Glow", which enters at #11, becomes the second top 20 hit of the duo after their take on "Beggin" reached #7 in 2008. Also new at #28 is the collaboration between German rappers Fler and Bushido, while the duet between teen sensation Justin Bieber and Sean Kingston crashes and burns at #60 which once again shows that the screaming teen girls are not a force as long as the charts are concerned. Despite losing the singles crown, Lena manages to fight off all competition for number one in the LP chart, where Helene Fisher's "Best Of" CD enters new at #2 and after "Zaubermond" and "So wie ich bin" becomes the third top three entry of the schlager singer. Next, U2's live album "U2 360° At The Rose Bowl" enters at #3, failing to become the ninth CD of Bono and co to take the number one slot. Also new, and perhaps staying for long, is the newest soundtrack to teen phenomenon Twilight at #4, while Christina Aguilera's "Bionic" comes in at #6 before I guess plummet in the next weeks...
  25. Sorry to hear about that Ben. One of the options may be to post only a short version of the albums - perhaps a top 10 plus (or without) new entries, or give a link to the Album chart somewhere... :)
