Gezza's Review Of Every No 2 Hit 2005-09
2008 remains, for me, the worse year for chart music. Dance music was virtually non existent and instead was favoured for, well, Nickleback and random bits of shit. "Pjanoo" is my favourite track of 2008 but there is probably about 20 tracks I like more than this in, say, 1991 which for me reinforces what a stinker of a year this was!

I think they're being generous. Sorry, I really really really hate Nickleback!

Gezza's Review Of Every No 2 Hit 2005-09
In my nearing 30 years of life on Earth, I can safely say this is the worse song ever created. I literally cannot listen to this piece of odious, obnoxious piece of shit if you paid me. What doesn't help is Chad (he had to be have a typically sounding North American name) looks like a poodle and Nickleback have offended me previously with a song almost equally as horrific - "How You Remind Me". I'll shut up now...

Gezza's Review Of Every No 2 Hit 2005-09
By some distance my favourite single of 2007. FLG had a knack of making such addictive sounding tracks BUT I do agree that the dance music of this half of the decade does not even touch the dance music of the 1990s. That aside, I either don't remember or dislike nearly all of the other number 2 hits. This was the year I stopped following the charts COMPLETELY and, if I remember rightly, 2008 was even worse and literally didn't listen to anything that was current. The tables have turned somewhat lately, thank GOD!

Green Room [2014]
I reserved a (rather primitive) hotel in Copenhagen, I had to act so bloody fast I didn't even have time to have a quick check on tripadvisor! Anyway if it's not in Copenhagen I'm defo not going and cancelling right away!!

Disclosure - Settle
"Voices" is under-whelming initially, but it's an absolute grower. I keep going back to this one, bloody love it!
-
Disclosure - Settle
Not youtube, but I have this http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01b0myw They don't add anything new to the track really (it's very much like a Disclosure remix so of course it's great) but it's always so nice to hear Sam Smiths knock-out vocals!
-
Disclosure - Settle
I was lucky enough to see them at Parklife Festival last weekend. I say see them... the tent (this was clearly arranged MONTHS ago!) was BURSTING to the point health and safety was out of the window! I was dancing on a barrier when they did "Boiling" which collapsed to the floor. It was worth the odd cut and bruise though, they are.. just.. amazing! Never loved a band so much since Basement Jaxx emerged on the scene back in the 90s! Jessie came on near the end and did her 2 tracks!!

Katy B - 'What Love Is Made Of'
I think it's COMPLETELY underwhelming! It just slips in one ear and out the other, almost absent of any real hook and song. Such a shame, her first album was ace!
-
Disclosure - Settle
"Grab Her" is considered the weaker track on the album, but I love it. Totally throw-away but it makes me chair dance every time! By the way anyone hear them on Radio 1 with Sam Smith covering Duke Dumont? Bloody brilliant!
-
Disclosure - Settle
When A Fire Starts To Burn is the next single, I believe. By no means the strongest track (that of course belongs to the bloody brilliant "Confess To Me" with Jessie Ware), but I hope they do the right thing and give it a proper release with gorgeous video etc etc.

Scandipop Top 100 Best Selling Singles 1980-2012
Absolutely adore "Manchild" and of course "Pjanoo" (the only house track of 2008 worth bothering with). I cannot bloody stand "Glorious" though. Like "Save Tonight", it's one of those yucky radio-friendly guitar pop songs that were always on local radio stations in the late 90s.

Predict: Katy B - "What Love Is Made Of"
Loved Katy B and her first album. For me, this is doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for me so it's hard for me to judge considering others are raving about it. Sounds like a small top 20 hit but I'm sure I'll be totally wrong!

Scandipop Top 100 Best Selling Singles 1980-2012
Certainly have to ride the rough with the smooth here, it swings from the sublime (Robyn, Tim Berg) to the hideous (Alda, Doctors). "Dancing On My Own" and "Seek Bromance" are the highlights for me - a real bummer the funky house classic from Stonebridge is a no-show, proof how dire sales were in 2004. Wasn't this the year where 10,000 sales often secured a top ten placing? "Crying At The Discotheque" was a bit of a guilty pleasure for me at the time - 2001 was the year I came out and this outrageously camp anomaly emerged! I subsequently bought it on vinyl... Also I had no idea Jose Gonzalez was Nordic!

The Story of NOW
NOW! 31 is great - aside from a very curious starter - a totally forgettable Wet Wet Wet track followed by iconic classics from Edwyn Collins and Pulp? Maybe Ashley was drunk when he compiled it but anyway it was all about the second disc, a proper run of dancey pop choons - Livin Joy, Jinny and Whigfield (no really!).
-
Green Room [2013]
OI!!! Nowt wrong with LoveCityGroove! That aside, it's an absolute HOT MESS of a compilation. Looks like they basically got the second disc of every NOW! album from the 90s and stuck it on shuffle!
-
The Story of NOW
My first NOW! album I bought I was just 8. My last one was NOW! 37 which I got for my 14th birthday and realising there was about 10 tracks I was merely bothered about (it was a rough one!). I then started buying Ministry of Sound comps and thought I was proper cool.... Nowadays the latest NOW! albums looks pretty cool as it's full of dance tunes! Crazy! That aside, what is everyones personal favourite NOW! album? Mine was/is 30.
-
The Story of NOW
I agree. I believe the real reason why the comps were segregated was due to the explosion of dance compilations in the late 80s clogging up main album chart.
-
The Story of NOW
My first was NOW! 21.. it was one of the old fashioned "fat" double CD boxes!
-
Disclosure - Settle
Disclosure are my favourite band! I am obsessed with them and I have not looked forward to an album this much since Basement Jaxx "Remedy" which was released in 1999!!!

Daft Punk 'Random Access Memories'
The jury is still out for me on this. It's an incredibly ambitious album but I also find the whole thing overbaked, self-indulgent and sometimes irritating. I prefer Daft Punk at 3am and banging! There are some proper WOW! bits, but at worse I feel like I'm in an elevator in a 5 star elevator in New York, circa 1979. Maybe after a few more listens the whole album will come together but the fact everyone has a strong reaction to this is surely a good thing!

San Marino 2014
San Marino has a population of 30,000... Val may be the only vocalist who can properly belt it out! I'm still scratching my head on why this didn't qualify!

Green Room [2013]
Defo got no probs with going to Copenhagen again next year - beautiful city, it's peaceful yet charismatic.
