I am shocked that Michael Jackson isn't #1 yet. That means Bulletproof (far superior than Man in the Mirror) will be the official #1 on Sunday -- unless he sells huge amounts on Saturday. Also surprised that Jackson 5's Maybe Tomorrow isn't on the chart. It's one of their best.
  5. One Day In Your Life is the only one of those songs I could listen to. It's beautiful. The rest are simply terrible. Everything he recorded after Billie Jean was awful in my opinion (except Earth Song, which I liked).
  6. I don't think Doctor Doctor was ever released. The album has been pushed back from April to June to July and now the release date is 24 August 2009. Good that I'm a patient person ... I've been waiting many months to get Embers (my top tune of 2009) on CD! Very happy that the Noisettes are continuing to climb. Great old-fashioned soul music.
  7. Bulletproof is more 'radio-friendly' than In For The Kill. I think it will be #1 next week. Plus there's heavy promotion of La Roux's album. It looks like WLTO's has lost a few bars in its lead (or one can hope), so its sales should be declining each day to make room for Bulletproof to take the iTunes #1 next Monday and the official chart #1 the following Sunday.
  8. Very sad that Paloma isn't headed to the top 10. The problem is there's too many quality female vocalists this year (Pixie, Little Boots, Paloma, Lenka, La Roux, Florence) and some are getting lost in the shuffle -- while last year there was just Duffy and Adele. Perhaps Paloma Faith will resurge and hopefully Florence & The Machine do well next week.
  9. Stone Cold Sober (with the infectious piano part) gets better with each listen. Seems it's struggling to make the top 10. Frustrating as it's better than anything in the top 10.

Why not? Many of us have stressful lifes, so it's nice to come here and discuss music. It's all in fun anyway.

I'm happy that When Love Takes Over is released today. Then it will never stand a chance at #1 -- especially with Mama Do's increasing strength at #1, and La Roux and Paloma Faith coming up. Using the Clocks sample is disturbing, but even worse is the tonight tonight tonight tonight tonight. Also pleased to see Battlefield stalling in the teens.

Therefore you don't own Gabrielle's Always album. So you can't judge her most recent music. It's mostly the yeah yeahs that reminded me of Gabrielle. But enough of that. I'm tired proving my point. In the future, I'll post when all of you are sleeping and no one will notice. :D No comment on Love Story (vs. Finally)? Isn't it the greatest dance track of the past decade? Of course, Lola's Theme ranks up there too.

Jester: Robyn's With Every Heartbeat is not a proper dance song either. I can't get the excitement over that song: same line repeated over and over. And, did you even listen to Gabrielle's last record Always? Lots of great songs on there in many styles. Please let's not criticise if we haven't listened the music. And Gabrielle is still relevant to her many fans, who attend her concerts and are highly entertained. Still the best show I've ever seen. All I'm saying is the "yeah yeah" reminds me of something she would record. Now that you've all confirmed Guetta legally used the Coldplay sample + the fact that Gabrielle loves using samples >>> Clearly I have proved my point. Here is a proper dance song and the best in the past years: Love Story vs Finally by Layo & Bushwacka.

Stunning voice? I can hear that voice in any church in America. Not one thing distinctive about it, except that it's loud. She will have to find many more dance producers to have the track record (and influence) of Gabrielle. Go to one of Gabrielle's live shows and you will know what I'm talking about. But back to the charts, Pixie is a lock at #1 for many weeks until Paloma Faith, so Kelly Rowland doesn't have a chance. I for one am loving the many British #1s this year. May they long continue!

I don't give someone as unoriginal as Jordin Sparks any thought. So I would NEVER compare her to the great Gabrielle. Unfortunately I had to endure 4 painful minutes of Battlefield while watching American Idol. But I will bypass it whenever it's played on the radio.

Are you talking about the version of When Love Takes Over that completely rips off Coldplay's Clocks? I hope Chris Martin sues them. That version doesn't seem danceable to me. The hook that goes "When Love Takes Over, yeah yeah" sounds like something Gabrielle would write and include as an album track. But it's certainly inferior to the impeccable stylings of Gabrielle.

I feel that Pixie Lott could have an Umbrella/Crazy length at #1. I think it will continue to sell and appeal to a wider audience. But that may not be possible anymore with unavailability of physical copies in much of the UK. I am fine with Paloma Faith being the next #1, but definitely not Lady Gaga, The Gossip, Jordin Sparks, or When Love Takes Over, which sounds like a Gabrielle B side to me (except that her B sides were far superior).
  20. It's overproduced and typical American Idol/X Factor fare. Why can't any of the female winners sing something original? I wish it would flop, but it will be overplayed and make the top 5.

This week just keeps getting better. Fire (with its intriguing guitars and vocals) pulls further ahead of BEPs, and We Are The People is almost #11. And New In Town, I'm Not Alone, and Tiny Dancer are holding on pretty strong in the top 20.

Looks like Fire is pulling away from Boom Boom Pow. Hopefully strong physical sales will help it reach #1 on Sunday. I'm still worried about Boom's sales on Sunday because of the Diversity win. If Kasabian can pull off the #1 it would be the most exciting and deserved #1 since Coldplay's Viva La Vida. Fire's ascent to #1 has been thrilling to watch. I hope Empire of the Sun can continue to climb, but top 10 doesn't seem realistic due to the fact that La Roux refuses to leave. It would be an even more glorious day if Agnes, The Gossip, and Kelly Clarkson plummet down the chart ... rapidly.

I guess I'm biased, because I dislike Because of You and MLWSWY so much. I thought she just 'went through the motions' for her performances of MLWSWY on American Idol, Oprah, and Saturday Night Live. It was as though she couldn't wait for the song to finish. Other people told me they were not impressed with her either, and expected much more from an AI winner. It's a bit frustrating because I liked her on season 1 American Idol and really haven't liked anything she's sung except for the song Breakaway.

I Do Not Hook Up is even worse than MLWSWY, clearly the worst UK #1 since that Ja Rule song Wonderful, or whatever it was called. The person I feel most sorry for is Kelly Clarkson. In performance, she sings these songs with absolutely no emotion. That's not how she performed on American Idol. She did well with soul and blues, and she wanted to record songs like those on the My December album. But since that didn't sell well, they are forcing her to record these Since You Been Gone copycats, which are awful. The magic will never be recreated, and I fear her career will soon be over. Back to iTunes, it's thrilling that Fire is doing so well. Hopefully it will be #1 by noon tomorrow and #1 on Sunday.
