  1. Reconfirmed with something I am fully expecting me and me alone to like!

QUlOzmQzkEs I saw this video the other week and it got me thinking that there's quite the collection of Eurovision songs that never got to actually take part (after 2010 it is basically Belarus and Ukraine with occasional appearances from other countries) and it's quite the rogues gallery of rule breakers! Are there any highlights from this collection of withdrawn songs that could have been real moments on stage/got a decent finishing position?
  3. A forum full of dirty rascals had convinced me that this was DNQing and its success was the absolute cherry on the cake of a chaotic results thread. m5xv7fyRFyI In terms of surprising DNQs, apart from the one I'm fresh off of, I was fully convinced this was going to be a contender to win! Fh0G31a2wbw Those dramatic strings! Y'all in LXI were tasteless hoes!
  4. Oh we could probably be here all night but some of my "finest moments" would be Spice - Romantic Mood (I had it in my head that dancehall could be an untapped market in BJSC if it was performed by some kind of "diva" and, well, look where that ended up!) jTAghWx_K7U And to anyone who dares suggest that I should have gone with "Get Down" I can tell you that, on that occasion, I regret nothing!
  5. Gone with something nordic and eurovision adjacent in honour of our gracious hosts!
  6. I mean sheer law of averages means you're never more than just a few months out with this option so I'm copying Rob xx
  7. Right now I've got...nada! So not sure if I'll confirm a placeholder or just wait until I find something. I've half a mind to just confirm something that I think lots of people will be after just to get my revenge from last month!
  8. Admittedly back in the pre-Google form days when everything was done via PM it was a lot easier to get first dibs on something as a host but at least now its theoretically possible to be beaten to something within a few seconds of the thread going live.

I've got a feeling in my waters tonight might be a big one!
  10. Don't get your hopes up too high but pretty sure the last time Chris hosted was the month y'all were blessed with 'Armenian Girl'
  11. Eledan and Scherzland may be the two extremes of the alt-pop binary!
  12. Goddammit Chris looks like he might win and already I'm dropping my capital letters!
  13. v into sexy sulky french bitches!
  14. N DNTN and Aeroche
  15. No amount of ancient ratings will dissuade me from the deepest extremes of pop hoetry! (also bish u gave one of them 11 points!)
  16. This all feels very tight at the top, hopefully one of the Norwegian princesses will take the crown at the end!
  17. Entirely predictably, the alternate song Belarus submitted has been rejected by the EBU as well meaning that they will be disqualified from the 2021 contest.

Obviously this episode is setting everything up for the rest of the series so hard to say much yet but definitely intrigued to see what's coming next. My claim to fame is that the actor playing Terry Boyle lives in Winchester and used to come into the Library as a service user for a LD charity while I was working there! Interesting to see Kate has left AC12. Theory below in spoilers Buckles now being a Chief Superintendent despite being useless also make me highly suspicious!
  20. I think they've planned for all of the run up from now to May to be a "will he/won't he" on Flo Rida being in the performance - smart move!

Beyond hyped for this to be back!
  22. Fair points well made Rich. The thing is that Idol winners in Melfest aren't exactly brand new and there hasn't been one before that's captured the public imagination in Melfest to this level before which tells me there's something about the combination of song and performer that has that kind of spark that makes something more than the sum of its parts. I didn't mean to suggest that Sweden will storm the televote, more that it's likely to have at least some appeal to the general/casual audience who only turn up on Saturday. Re: France as much as I love Patricia Kaas, I think that song is a lot less accessible than Voila for a non-Eurovision/Francophile audience to get into (and a very poor draw didn't help) and not to be ageist but Barbara probably has more visual appeal to be able to sell the song when it comes to the final.
  23. Last year I remember observing that there seemed to be two obvious "lanes" developing with some songs clearly aiming at the jury vote and the televote and that the secret to doing well in that field would have been to be able to either do at least decently well on both or to completely storm one of them whilst the other leg is very spread out. I think there's going to be broadly similar tactics among this group of songs so I could see paths to victory for the following countries; Malta - Could easily win the jury vote and I think Je Me Casse is capable of potentially winning the public vote as well. Only thing that gives me doubt is Malta have historically not been as strong on the televote in the past but we could equally say the same about Israel prior to 2018! Sweden - Most likely to do a Jamala and win from a good result on both sides even if it doesn't win either. People like to make the lazy comparison to Ingrosso and Lundvik but the former was mostly crowded out in a field where Fuego and Toy scooped up all the pop votes and its not like the latter tanked with the public either. Plus it would be foolish to ignore such a runaway public vote winner in a strong Melfest final. Lithuania - I think a lot of people have counted this one out but Eastern Europe could really go for it whilst the west still shows it some appreciation. Discotheque might not be the most jury friendly song ever but I think its more so than On Fire at least. Iceland - Similar reasoning to Lithuania with the added factor that people might be more sympathetic to Iceland than the song itself necessarily merits as the ones who would/should have got the crown last year but were unlucky enough to have Covid screw their chances. Plus there's the known unknown of the stage performance/music video that could change the calculation. Either way there's scope for a high jury and a high public vote which could well still be enough. France - Very obviously jury catnip and I also have a bit of a half tested hypothesis that I think televoters really go for songs that have that element of the competing country in them like Higher Ground being a very Viking influenced song, Spirit In The Sky being so obviously a Sami Joik/Pop Fusion, Grande Amore being quintessential Italian Pop and this really could not be anything other than French. Plus there's the potential for this to be a really striking contrast to the rest of the competition which could give it enough of a televote pull that it can win alongside a jury landslide. This is obviously highly conditional so it's at the bottom of my "winners list" but there is a path for it.
  24. And for Semi 2 01 Czech Republic: Benny Cristo - Omaga 02 Poland: Rafal - The Ride 03 Serbia: Hurricane - Loco Loco 04 Austria: Vincent Bueno - Amen 05 San Marino: Senhit - Adrenalina 06 Moldova: Natalia Gordienko - Sugar 07 Iceland: Dadi Freyr - 10 Years 08 Estonia: Uku Suviste - The Lucky Ones 09 Greece: Stefania - Last Dance 10 Portugal: The Black Mamba - Love Is On My Side 11 Latvia: Samanta Tina - The Moon Is Rising 12 Bulgaria: Victoria - Growing Up Is Getting Old 13 Albania: Anxhela - Karma 14 Georgia: Tornike Kipiani - You 15 Denmark: Fyr & Flamme - Ove os pa hinanden 16 Switzerland: Gjon's Tears - Tous l'univers 17 Finland: Blind Channel - Dark Side - Main challenge here is how to spread out the pop bangers in the first half. I ended up with this version on the basis that there'd be a break after song 5 so there's time to get your breath back between San Marino and Moldova - Czech Republic seem like a good opener for something high energy. I didn't think I could put both Amens in the death slot so Poland goes there for something that's poppy but not particularly high impact with Austria used to break up a run of bangers later on - The second half was a lot easier to go with the contrasts. Finland makes the most sense as a closer with hopefully a big stage show with a lot of fireworks and Switzerland just before as the most hyped up entry for a strong contrast. - If we're keeping the breaks in the same place as Semi 1 then the second one would go between Albania and Georgia which works well enough (for a pee break)
  25. Semi One in my headcannon 01 Lithuania: The Roop - Discotheque 02 Slovenia: Ana Soklic - Amen 03 Belarus: Galasy ZMesta - Some Shit Song 04 North Macedonia: Vasil - Here I Stand 05 Australia: Montaigne - Technicolour 06 Russia: Manizha - Russian Woman 07 Sweden: Tusse - Voices 08 Ireland: Lesley Roy - Maps 09 Ukraine: Go_A - Shum 10 Romania: Roxen - Amnesia 11 Israel: Eden Alene - Set Me Free 12 Azerbaijan: Efendi - Mata Hari 13 Norway: TIX - Fallen Angel 14 Cyprus: Elena - El Diablo 15 Malta: Destiny - Je Me Casse 16 Belgium: Hooverphonic - The Wrong Place 17 Croatia: Albina - Tick Tock - Lithuania seem the most obvious song to get the party started/make a bold impression from the off with Slovenia given the sacrificial second place slot. If Belarus don't turn up in Rotterdam then Australia can be swapped around to put in between Slovenia and North Macedonia to break up the run of ballads. Throughout the rest of the run I've tried to break up the higher and lower tempos where possible. - Norway has to go somewhere in that middle of the second half/after a break to give them set up time for the props. And Cyprus to follow them just for the symbolism of going from "fallen angel" to El Diablo. - Croatia close the show with a similar high energy number with Belgium providing the cushioning between Croatia and Malta in song 15
