90s Top 10 sales- Week By Week- 1997
Blueboy getting that second stint in the top 10  I don't mind Discotheque, it's at least quite different sounding for them. I still prefer the better new entries from Depeche Mode and The Orb though

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1988
Both the two Pet Shop Boys penned tracks are by far my favourites this week, love both. Heart isn’t an absolute favourite of mine but it’s still great and completed an incredibly strong set of singles from the Actually album. A-ha not bad but not something I choose to play of theirs too often

Ship of Fools  I didn't know it at the time but I remember hearing it on the Pop! compilation and thinking it was weird that they went with this as a lead single when Chains of Love and (obvs) A Little Respect were right there... but over time I've come to appreciate it a lot more and think it's one of their loveliest songs.

Bad Bunny - DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS
I've never listened to any of his albums before but I gave this a try and liked it, despite it being a genre I wouldn't always naturally listen to. I'm not very well versed in this style of music but is it an Argentine tango style that its fused with? It may be that the production is just reminding me of Gotan Project that's making me think that. Either way, it's very easy to listen to and I didn't get bored with it at all - I quite like that I don't understand the lyrics too, the melodies and production definitely work well enough and give a certain vibe without needing to understanding it all fully what's being said.

Round 3: Ultimate Ultimate Survivor
Gwen gone far too early :(

Round 6: Year End Survivor #104
The Kooks again for me. Sad to see Country Girl go, it's a very different style for Primal Scream but I liked both this and the follow up Dolls

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1988
Not really that keen on any of the new entries since I last commented. Suedehead is okay but I agree it isn't a patch on the best Smiths singles... Joe Le Taxi is also okay but I've always found it a little bit boring if I'm honest... The Eddy Grant track is catchy but repeated plays left me finding it irritating... I don't remember the Coldcut track and didn't realise that Yazz had a hit before the more famous singles, again it was okay but I can't remember how it goes even though I've only just listened... and then there's Rick Astley, Together Forever is definitely a song that gets stuck in your head so I'll give it that

Cinemas
Oh forgot to pledge my allegiance to a popcorn type... it's the sweet/salty mix for me, although it's rare that I have it when watching a film. I also forgot to mention the lovely Broadway cinema in Nottingham, I go there more than the Cineworld as it's independent and shows a great variety of films.

Cinemas
Didn’t know until reading your post Jonjo that Cineworld was closing, that’s a big loss to the city centre :( I go there sometimes so that’s really sad to read, Showcase isn’t really a viable option for me because of where it’s located We have an Odeon where I live but it’s a small one so doesn’t show anything aside from the major films. On the plus side it’s only £5 these days

The Posters' Chart: Year-End 2024
Wow, the dance and electronic forum beating pop and country :o (albeit slightly)

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1988
My brother and I used to listen to the Kylie album a lot, although we didn't get it until christmas - but I can understand why it drove my parents up the wall, the songs are pretty awful really and I agree with Bjork above that SAW gave better songs to some of their other acts at this stage. Beat Dis is by far my favourite song in the top 10 at the moment, although I do have a soft spot for Tell It To My Heart as well.

Absolutely adore all of Your Woman, Beetlebum, Nancy Boy and Remember Me  Four of my favourite singles of the year all arriving in very quick succession, the latter of which went on to be my song of the year.

I'm not sure I've ever heard a Debbie Gibson song before but Shake Your Love seems pretty weak to me after just listening, definitely nowhere near as good as I Think We're Alone Now. The UK were definitely behind the correct teen star at this stage. Sign Your Name is another good single from TTD, I think this was roughly when my dad bought his album as I can remember him playing it a lot when I was a child. I listened to it the other month and, whilst a little dated, it still holds up as a strong collection. Echoing the love for Krush, I didn't know it at the time but I've since bought the 12" and think it's a great dance track.

BJSC 171 IS BRAT CONFIRMATIONS
I've just switched from a techno track that I think would have done well to a song I've just discovered that ends with cats purring. It had to be done.

Round 7: Year End Survivor #103
Not sure what to go with here, four songs that are kinda okay but not really anything I'd choose to play.

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1988
It does seem a steep drop... but then I've just been looking back at the end of the 1987 thread and realised that 'The Way You Make Me Feel' rebounded back up from #8 to #3 in the last chart there but disappears altogether in this thread - a quick check on polyhex suggests it went 16-03-03-06-08-03-16!
