Songs you thought got to #1...
We Belong Together was the first song to be #1 on the Physical Chart, but not #1 on the combined (i.e. physicals + downloads) chart.
-
Hits that had part of its sales disqualified?
At the time of I Would Die 4 U's release, the limit was 20 minutes no matter what - I believe it was not until 2003 that the limit for remix CDs was extended to 40 minutes.
-
Hits that had part of its sales disqualified?
It charted at #14 on both formats in week 1, then somebody pointed out that CD1 was ineligible, so it was discounted, leading the song to fall to #61 the following week. Creatures - Godzilla is another one (it was top 20 in the midweeks, but only ended up #53).

Hits that had part of its sales disqualified?
Both Oasis and Blur did have their 4th formats chart separately (as did Michael & Janet Jackson - Scream). I believe Five - If Ya Gettin' Down had some sales discounted in week 1 (which may have cost it #1). Dualers - Don't Go charted at #61, but apparently had some sales discounted due to possible bulk-buying. Mark Joseph - Bringing Back Those Memories was top 10 in the midweeks, but a lot of its sales were ineligible box-sets (containing all 3 formats), so it only charted at #34. Tatjana - Santa Maria was completely DQ'd on its first release due to hyping allegations, but did chart subsequently on a re-issue (reaching #40).

One week wonders in the UK chart
The 2001 version of Suspicious Minds spent 4 weeks in the chart: 15-21-39-60. Most of the Elvis re-issues from 2007 did spend one week in the top 20 before dropping out completely. Similarly, Billie's Honey To The Bee had a 17-out run in 2007, but had charted in 1999, and Stereophonics - Dakota had a 29-out run in 2012, but reached #1 in 2005. Billiam - My Generation had a week at #23 in 2008.

#2 hits that were blocked by 2 or more songs at #1?
Cheeky Girls - The Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum) was kept off #1 by Eminem, Blue, and Girls Aloud (2 wks). Madonna - Crazy For You was kept off #1 by Sister Sledge in 1985, and by The Simpsons and The Clash in 1991 (the latter week being an all re-issue top 2).

Most famous one-hit wonders
Both Len and Crazy Town did chart follow-ups to their big hits in the UK but not elsewhere (in fact Crazy Town are true one-hit wonders in the US).
-
Most famous one-hit wonders
City High - What Would You Do is a quite well-remembered song, but their follow-up Caramel is not well-remembered at all.
-
Most famous one-hit wonders
Scatman John Afroman Shanks & Bigfoot (their second hit under this name did 'only' make #12, but they are definitely not the one-hit wonders that they are often considered - plus they also charted as Doolally)

Luckiest #1's?

Longest gaps between returning to No1
David Whitfield - Answer Me fell to #5 between its 2 visits to #1: 12-8-4-1-2-2-2-5-1-2-2-2-6-xx-xx-12, although its 2nd week was as a joint #1 with Frankie Laine's version of the same song. Beatles - She Loves You holds the record for longest gap between 2 trips to #1 in the same chart run: 12-3-1-1-1-1-3-3-3-2-2-3-2-1-1-2-2-2-3-5-5-8-16-19-21-23-28-33-35-42-48-xx-42-47.

Songs that you expected to get to #1...
Apologies if these have already been mentioned: Will Young - Don't Let Me Down / You And I (he was massive in 2002, and the song was for CIN) Robbie Williams - Feel (he had just signed a massive record deal, yet this didn't even go top 3) Gareth Gates - Sunshine (much hyped tune that only made #3 and dropped quite quickly)
-
Most surprising #1s?
Ozzy & Kelly Osbourne - Changes (it was helped to #1 by Ozzy having a quad-bike accident in the week of release, but I still didn't expect it to be #1) Pink - Just Like A Pill Kings Of Leon - Sex On Fire (seems a bit odd now, but at the time it was a surprise, considering its first week was download-only, and they had never previously had a top 10 hit) Steps - Stomp (but nowhere near as much of a shock as Baha Men climbing 14-2 that week)
