definitely worth a bet. I still think ukraine or latvia will win but this wont do too badly
  2. michelle was fab ....but her wailing and the lyrics were something out of a nightmare.
  3. I agree realsinger. Love$h!te were simply dreadful. Andy can hold a tune whatever anyone thinks of his style of music.
  4. Call me stupid, but I've only just realised that there was a 16 year gap between our wins in 1981 and 1997. By my reckoning, we don't really need to start worrying for another 5 years at least!

If anyone is going to have a bet you need to bet stategically. 1) Eastern Bloc countries have fared well recently 2) Apart from Estonia, well-fancied countries have done well 3) Recent winning locations tend to switch between Baltic and Balkan regions I'm going Baltic this year which makes Ukraine, Latvia or Belarus, likely winners for me at 12/1, 12/1 and 16/1
  6. we would need to not just have a good song, but a spectacularly brilliant song How does one define a spectacularly brilliant song? Brilliance is a subjective attitude and therefore incongruent to the song's objective ability to win or lose. It just needs to be popular.
  7. my mum thought it sounded very much like errol brown from hot chocolate He may have a slight skin tonal resemblance to errol brown, but I will happily supply your dear old mum with a new set of hearing appliances if she thinks she sounds like him too! Bless.
  8. There should be a seeding system I can think of a few Europeans I'd like to seed. On the whole, the voting system has gone a bit skewiff, but the EBU don't seem to show much of an interest....
  9. Britain will never win eurovision Not unless we ditch Northern Ireland, but until then our entry will always be known as the United Kingdom. (ps - I dont want us to ditch Northern Ireland, but that's a different debate altogether!)
  10. I think we should send Kate Rusby and her Village Green Preservation Society. Quintessential English folk music. Morris Dancers in the background could bang sticks and dance round the May Pole.

he has a nice voice, she is as tuneful as a cat having its fur manually plucked. Also a shame about the computerised rubbish in the background that is passing itself off as a musical tune.

Switzerland 7/1 Malta 8/1 Norway 8/1 Denmark 10/1 Czech Republic 12/1 Azerbaijan 14/1 Slovenia 14/1 an interesting way of compiling odds with a seriously impressive percentage mark-up :-) Paddypower have 33/1 for Malta - I think i might go with them, although a little saver on Turkey at 16/1 would be OK. Ireland at 4/1 with PP is ridiculous. They always overestimate their own Irish entries!

i quite like it. top 10 for sure.

It will finish somewhere between 12th and 18th position, with some typically Balkan "vote-for-your-neighbour-not-for-the-song" keeping it nearer the top than the bottom.

Poland love Ukraine!!! Surely you should vote for the song, not the country? It emphasises the UK's general belief in political voting. It is a SONG contest after all. Distinctly average song - will probably do quite well.

pass my pills please...... If you can't find my pills..... a rope, a hook and a chair will do.

At last a half-decent song - The Balkans will love it! My fiver is definitely going on this one....what are the odds??

Ouch - it sounds like a noise you would hear in one of those dreadful modern discotheques.
  19. I'm a bit confused with the idea that the UK doesnt know how to pick a Eurovision winner. Let us look back and see if there are any trends to winning songs? 2007 - big belting love ballad from Serbia 2006 - inaudible heavy metal from Finland 2005 - eastern traditional/dance mix from Greece 2004 - eastern traditional/rock mix from Ukraine 2003 - mix of eastern traditional, rock, rap and dance from Turkey 2002 - spanish/south american style pop from Latvia 2001 - typical pop song from Estonia 2000 - guitar accompanied middle-of-the-road love song from Denmark a slight ethnic feel in the middle - but it seems Europe can't really make up its mind either as to what kind of song should win. Why do we think that we know better?
  20. Had the BBC just gone ahead and sent Cyndi last year and The Revelations/Michelle Gayle/Simona Armstrong this year, we'd be doing far better. send 3 entries? Surely the EBU would notice! Would we be doing far better? I have grave reservations.
  21. The Revelations - What went wrong? If it was a "choose the best wailing banshee" decision, they might have done a bit better.
  22. I was just thinking about how with a slight edit we could've sent Goldfrapp - A&E I won't tell you what kind of edit I was advised to write, but I agree that we should send someone with some singing integrity. look at some of our winners and runners up - Katrina, Sonia, Cliff Richard, Lulu - all with recognised musical backgrounds Now look at our recent efforts. Daz Sampson - who? Javine - who? Jemini, Taurus, Sagittarius (whatever they were called) - who? And anyone, who criticizes Andy's "best of a bad bunch" song? I live near Katie Price and I can always persuade her to pull out her pink catsuit and wail woefully for the UK instead....
  23. 3 obvious reasons why Andy should represent us: 1. He had the best crafted song (of the 6 we were allowed to choose from) 2. He was the ONLY singer to sing in tune 3. The majority of the UK voted for him. Now we may well question the voting tactics in Mevedyev's win in Russia yesterday but dare we question those bastions of integrity, honesty and fair-play - the good ole British public?
  24. et lorsqu'il n'y a pas de mammaires: 1. Royaume-Uni (un peu de patriotisme) 2. Grèce 3. Macédoine 4. Malte 5. Turquie
  25. Claudia Winkleman - don't you just love her hair?
