Ballads appeal to a more mature audience (ie older). Older people are less likely to download 1 song for 29-99p and more likely to go out and get a full album.

The ballad may well die out completely when the current generation of young people grow up.

    I don't think so.

It's a very valid point you make but it's also slightly stereotypical even if there is a bit of truth. I'm verging on 16 and prefer ballads to uptempos due to the connection. I guess generally teenagers will buy Iyaz, NDubz up-tempo sort of stuff but i think ballads will always be mainstream.

But are ballads selling well anymore and getting alot or radio airplay?

Of course they are. The Silence is actually the sort of ballad i can hear smashing on radio. The chorus is radio friendly, it's got a good melody and it's produced by RedOne. Radio will love it

  3. I thought The Silence had been confirmed?

Happy never sold well as it was the most dreary piece of music Leona has ever recorded. The Silence is the type of ballad that got Alexandra votes on X Factor. Releasing another uptempo would be a mistake.

Ugh i hate people who say that. Get some life experience and then you will know how relevant, powerful and frankly fecking amazing Happy actually is. The peak/sales of Happy don't reflect the quality of the song, it reflects the stupidity of the music-buying GBP. My opinion of course.

    B) if charity single is out the 8th jls will kick them of number 1 three weeks later according to my calculations. :naughty:

Let's hope not. I'd rather have a Haiti song at #1 than a song by JLS.

But then again i'd rather have a song with JayZ farting at #1 rather than them.

  6. What makes me laugh about is that it wont beat number 11. if they are complaining about the chart positions, then why isnt the girls aloud fans also trying to get a campaign to buy the chemistry album as that only peaked at 11. be happy that the song got close to the top 10 and maintains their top 20 record.

That would be more sensible. Doesn't it only take 8k copies to get top 10 in the Albums Chart?

  7. OMG Christina <3

Lift Me Up is the best song on the album. I actually had a little cry

Oh, and whoever criticised Beyonce for the "shameless plug" - Grow up. It was a suitable song (bar the intro) and it's for Haiti. Why do people have to be so cynical. She did it cos she's a down-to-earth person.

Christina and Madonna sang their own songs. I'm sure they are heartless bitches also

  8. Confused. I haven't seen JLS but Alexandra was so obviously miming.

She wasn't miming  The ad-libs were the only mimed bits. It was clear she was singing live cos it was noticably different to the album/single versions. The backing track was drowning her out though so that might be why you thought she was miming.

Anyway, Alex has already proved her vocal ability on X Factor *cough*YouAreSoBeautiful/Listen*cough*

  9. 40. Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour) - Version 1.0 - Jay-Z, Bono, The Edge & Rihanna

Something tells me this is heading for the top 5 based on one performance between 1am and 3am.

Well it's for a great cause and it has Rihanna in it. It should be number one  I've heard the preview and it sounds very good. I just hope she releases Redemption Song in the UK.

On a slightly off-topic note, Christina's performance shat all over the others last night on the HFHN telethon - even BEY's. It was slightly cringeworthy how Beyonce sang "Remember all those walls i built, well baby they're tumbling down, they didn't even put up a fight..." though. Still, she did amazing and Halo was a very fitting song. I wonder if Halo will have an effect on the iTunes Chart.

I wonder if The Element Of Freedom could be 2010's I Am Sasha Fierce (selling steadily throughout the year and not peaking until nearly a year out). I know i said that about Overcome but TEOF also seems to be going that way. Or maybe it's doing more of a 'The Alesha Show'.

Glee won the 2009 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series - Comedy / Musical as voted for by TV industry insiders and not by the public:

That is why previous winners include high quality TV shows such as Taxi; M*A*S*H; The Cosby Show; The Golden Girls; The Wonder Years; Cheers; Seinfeld; Frasier; 3rd Rock from the Sun; The Office (UK version); Sex and the City; Ally McBeal; Desperate Housewives; Ugly Betty; Extras; 30Rock.

Yet the most successful (but not critically acclaimed) US TV show of its genre Friends never won that award.

Glee is not hype. It is a fukkin' great TV show that became a sleeper hit whose popularity grew via word of mouth when first shown in the USA.

Well the fact Friends didn't win says it all imho.

People can like who they want but there is no denying Glee is hyped up (whether it is over-hyped or not is a different matter - one we certainly won't agree on )

I'm just not into bumming Glee.

People are hardly saying the best new thing since... or the new...

Trust me there are some people who think they were the best thing last year. They obviously haven't heard of Stacey Solomon, Jamie or Miss Frank -_-

  12. Climb for Under pressure & Ice Ice baby ? Both Vanilla Ice & Jedward in TT on twitter..

Anyone know when Jedward version actually being released

Dermot said it was their new single

OMFG (in the words of Stephen Fry ) i don't know what's worse? Jedward or Glee. YOu can tell i'm not one to easily buy into hype. ^_^

They will probably be a one-hit-wonder. I'm surprised if the novelty hasn't worn off by April.
