I echo the thoughts of everyone on here ... was watching the Football League Show on Sky Plus earlier today. Stopped it just to check out the BBC Interactive page and stunned at the news. Couldn't bear to watch the rest of the show or interested in watching the Liverpool-City match. As has been said in some posts, such tragic news puts everything onto perspective. Rest in peace, Gary Speed.
  2. Aphrodite - I remember reading that Susan Boyle's second album was the first Christmas album to top the artist album charts. Here's an excerpt from Alan Jones's Chart Commentary. Although first week sales of 102,993 are barely a quarter of the 411,820 sales that earned 49-year-old Boyle’s debut, I Dreamed A Dream, pole position 50 weeks ago, The Gift easily defeated Bon Jovi’s Greatest Hits, which holds at number two on sales of 59,267 copies. Containing covers of Lou Reed’s Perfect Day, Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah and Crowded House’s Don’t Dream It’s Over, The Gift otherwise concentrates on covers of Christmas and New Year favourites. I guess Michael Buble is the first to be a completely Christmas album to top the Christmas album chart.
  3. I have no idea why it disappeared for a week. It was to do with a chart ruling, Suedehead, about singles and percentage increases week on week - sorry this is so vague - it was really complicated (for me, at any rate!!). Have searched google for a fuller explanation - can't find it!
  4. Great to see two very different singles start the chart - did Radio 1 play both? (My children are watching Peppa Pig and now Fireman Sam and they tell me off for playing any music on my laptop so I'm following online.) Good luck to Suedehead explaining Cannonball's 2004 chart run ;) Didn't make sense to me no matter how many times I re-read it from Music Week.
  5. Living Colour was used in wrestling - CM Punk used it as his new theme music on Monday night.
  6. Finally made my through this book - only took over a year to do it. I know it's a minor criticism but Kylie was labelled as a debuting artist on Spinning Around and Billie Piper was labelled as a debuting artist on Day and Night. They weren't of course, just a different credit. Also, I always assumed it was Beyonce (sole credit) on 'Crazy in love' in the UK and Beyonce ft Jay-Z in America. In the book it's credited to Beyonce ft. Jay-Z.
  7. An album chart show would be good - Radio 2 had one on Monday nights in 2002 hosted by Simon Mayo. Was very good. Not sure when it stopped, though. Jo Wiley would be a good presenter for it. Slightly off topic but Radio Times is listing Radio 1 DJs playing a Top 40 on Monday 27th-Thursday 30th (Reggie, Fearne, Greg and Jo are hosting on individual days). Anyone know what format the show is? Personal charts?
  8. When Mark Goodier hosted the show I could set my clock by it - 4-4:45pm positions 40-31; 4;45-5:30 pm positions 30-21. The album chart was read out at 5:30pm (Top ten) then positions 20-11 were from 5:30-6:15pm and the TopTen would be in the last 45 minutes. I miss that - the album chart rundown (which I agree should be a Top Ten) seems to move about alot. Do a recap of the Top 40 before the number 1 (I'm guessing they don't do that to encourage people to check out their website). When recapping positions 40-31 (or 30-21 etc) tell us which singles climb, fall, stay the same or are new to the chart. Personally I'd prefer the presenter to be neutral - I still recall being annoyed that JK and Joel slagged off Crazy Frog getting to number one. Thousands of people bought it - who is the chart show DJ to rip into those people. Same with their tastes in music - I know Reggie likes urban, grime,r n b etc but I don't need to know this - I had no idea what music Mark Goodier liked. I know Reggie has a man crush on Michael Buble - he tells me every time Buble is on the chart show. Mark Goodier could have had a similiar crush on Ritchie from 5ive but I didn't care - just read the chart and know your subject matter. Finally, if you're firing Reggie (I do like him as radio presenter just not so keen as a chart show host) get Scott Mills or Greg James to do it.
  9. Kylie was on at the very start of the show, before Michael McIntyre did his welcome.
  10. Who's buying them? My theory is children who were 6-7 years old when Chasing Cars was first on the chart are now 10-11 years old and at the age where they download music. They hear the song and buy it. Rinse and repeat over a number of years leads to years of people buying the song for the first time.
  11. I've no idea why Liverpool fans kick up such a stink about it, they should be thankful because it took all the attention away from how god awfully p***-poor they were in that match. From what I remember Rafa on MOTD said that Liverpool were poor and he wouldn't use the beach ball incident as an excuse. If it happened to a certain other manager ... make that managers they would have thrown around words such as 'travesty' and 'absolute joke'.
  12. Any ideas who's hosting the show? Is Mark Goodier still a presenter on Radio 2?

Read on the BBC Red Button that Dave Whelan thinks the Premier League should take over the running of the England team rather than the FA. Does anyone have any ideas if this is a good or bad idea? For me the problem facing any England football manager is the 'John Barnes conundrum' - how to get a gifted club footballer to replicate it in an England shirt. The other problem is - why do England always seem to underperform no matter how good they seem to be? For example, the German team of 2002 is acknowledged by many to be a poor team and yet got to the final - could you ever see a poor England side getting to the final? Greece won the Euro 2004 competition without any major stars but were disciplined, worked as a team and were hard to break down - again, could you ever see an England side do this and be successful as Greece?

Enjoyed the episode - especially how the enemies teamed up against the doctor - seems like such a simple idea you wonder why it took 47 years to realise ... Kudos to thisispop about the kitchen sink - just a personal gripe about the new series - how it seems that it must end with the absolute end of the doctor/the earth/the universe/reality/past/present/future/James Corden. Another gripe is the killing of Amy. This should be incredibly emotional and yet I watched and thought, 'Yeah right!' (and I avoid all spoilers and have no idea if Amy has been killed off or not). The reason being is I felt this way is the number of times where a character has been written out or killed off with the promise they will never, ever, ever be back and then ... voila! Here they are again ... Rose Tyler, Cpt Jack Harkness, Donna, Alternative Universe, Rory .... It's like wrestling retirement stories ... the first one you watch has a lot of impact and the more wrestlers break their retirement vow and return the less impact a future retirement story has ... can't believe I'm mixing Dr Who with wrestling!

Can't say I'm surprised he's left - what annoys me is how every day Liverpool seem to be in the media - Gerrard is leaving, Torres is leaving, Torres stays if Rafa goes, players wanted Benitez out, Reina wants him to stay ... the political machinations at Anfield seems more exciting (and confusing) than your average British soap opera. What fascinates me is (seemingly to me) that Rafa's greatest strength - he was detached from his team, had no favourites - became his greatest weakness - he was cold, players needed an arm around their shoulder and encoragement. I'm not saying this is - ahem - 'fact' just my opinion. I would like Kenny Dalglish to be interim manager - he would unite fans, possibly inspire the players, lift the doom and gloom from around the club. Longer term, I would like Martin O'Neill. I hope Rafa does well in Inter - Inter versus Real in the Champions League final 2011, anyone??
  16. Think the Allisons represented the UK in Eurovision ... spent a few weeks at number 2 ... just checked out chartstats.com and it was released in 1961 and spent 6 (non consecutive) weeks at 2.
  17. Grandwicky - Liverpool did the double in 1986.

Thought tonight's episode was wonderful and full of humour ... 'Did you kiss her back?' 'No, I kissed her mouth.' was so funny. Plus, I love how Matt Smith's doctor is so ill at ease with women - he used the word buxom!! Refreshing change from David Tennent - I could have sworn it was in his contract he got to snog any famous female actress on the show. Next week's episode looks interesting - wonder if it'll be similar to The Mind Robber? Interested in finding out who the Dream Lord is. Did the first doctor visit Venice?

Just read the news that Katy Manning is appearing on Sarah Jane Adventures - Unbelievable! Thought the last series of SJA was the strongest yet. Is Torchwood coming back this year? Just a few points about Saturday's episode ... as many have said, Karen Gillan is superb. Just a lovely, warm character ... and only after 3 episodes! I think Matt Smith is very good - I do see aspects of Tennant's Doctor in Matt Smith's Doctor - I guess you could say that's understandable as it is the Doctor - he should have some familiar/similiar traits. I do find Matt Smith's doctor quite geeky, in a charming, likeable way. As for Steven Moffat's casting of Matt Smith ... Steven said in an interview that he was planning to cast an older actor to contrast with David Tennant. However, that idea changed when Matt auditioned and was the best choice. I agree with the Daleks being overused but I wonder if Steven Moffat decided that since it was a new doctor and companion it would be helpful for the audience to have familiar villians? Just an idea ...
  20. Random Noisettes re-entry. It's being used in a TV commercial - DFS I think.
  21. Agreed with Rooney's statement regarding Sir Alex not getting anyway near as hard a time as Rafa ... a journalist wrote a couple of week's ago that he doesn't get a hard time this season because all focus for criticism/analysis has been on Rafa and Man City. Happy for Leeds - my wife asked how much the ref would add on in injury time and I replied 'Until Man U score'. Glad I was wrong!
  22. Yes, but non of the other Doctors knew when they were going to die. I thought it was used to great effect. Tom Baker's doctor must have known he was going to die .... what with The Watcher and all. Really enjoyed tonight's episode .... I've always been a sucker for returning characters. Matt Smith looks the part already - I wonder if the BBC are anxious about Matt replacing an incredilbly popular doctor?
  23. I was hugely disappointed with this episode ... I struggled to understand it - I was completely sober and not especially tired after a half 5 start with two daughters aged 2 and 10 weeks. Now if I found it difficult to follow what hope a 10 year old?? There were nice touches .... Bernard Cribbins was brilliant, the Doctor talking about his regeneration, the ending but much I disliked ... the Master bouncing like a demented Tigger being the prime one. As I was watching it, I had a yearning to watch the classic series boxsets my wife bought me for Christmas. Still, there's always the one on New Year's Day ... and, as much as I have enjoyed the David Tennant era, I am looking forward to Doctor Number 11.
  24. This is getting ridiculous! Losing a game we should be winning .... and by the sounds of Radio 5 Live we are dominating.
  25. Every time I think Liverpool might turn a corner .... cant believe we lost to Fulham after our performance against Man Utd. Think Rafa, Hicks and Gillete need to decide whether they want to win the league or the Champions League - we dont have the squad who can compete on both fronts. Seems Rafa picked his team yesterday with one eye on Lyon on Wed.
