  14. Why? Do you think it should be banned in poor taste? The most hated woman of the 20th Century dies. Unfortunately 35 years too late!
  15. 3/1/83 to 8/1/83. No real major misses apart from David Essex & Keith Harris & plus possibly Rene & Renato's last week at #1. Doubt that "Save Your Love" would qualify for a place in the Top 100 on any 83 sales alone. Doesn't seem to by looking at figures.
  16. Great. So, it's almost certainly including the missed week. Though doesn't seem to include the w/k ending 7th Jan 84. I'll work around it & go for a full 52 week run & also incorporate it into the 80s chart & take out the MRIB sales, I put in. It seems to cover w/k ending 15th Jan 83 to w/k ending 31st Dec. So, we lose a week in January 83. I wonder why that is?
  17. Is there a link to the post, Robbie...Or do you have the whole chart, you can PM me? Though rather strange the Top 21 remained the same. Only You would surely have risen passed #9 in a week? Could be that the one with Victims at 98 is wrong?
  18. Hence you've got to be rather desperate to listen to the small playlist stations like Heart & Capital. Awful stations & shadows of their former self, Eric. I mean The brilliant Network Top 30, really did nick R1s listeners. Rendering Jimmy Savile top show in 1986. Seems that I believe you Eric. People listen to Big Top Circus, coz they always listen to those repetitive stations. I guess R1 essentially lost it's key listener in 1993. Funny though, as The Pepsi Chart was about as nonsense as Big Top 40 is. Where did R1 listeners go after 93? Oh, Radio 2...but not on Sunday Afternoons, surely? Recently I asked a manager at an Independant Station: "If you won the rights to the Music Week/Milward Brown Top 40, would you play all the songs in it?" The reply was "Any chart on Independant Radio, would always include Airplay & we would not play the complete top 40, as stations in the Global Radio group don't play certain songs". So, I guess they don't really want to run a more accurate chart, anyway.
  19. The best presenter since sliced bread? Maybe not. But Radio One are (perhaps) toting for the female listener. Though Miss Female Average listener probably listens to Heart FM. She's not that bad (for a female radio presenter). Better than Miss "over lipgloss" Cotton for instance. But Radio One have an age group to look after & it ain't the over 30s. Apparently (so one DJ told me) the over 30s don't buy single downloads. Will R1's figures improve? In this case, No (although the presenter's figure has!) A lost cause on the listener front for the top 40. 1 million listeners is pretty average in a world single market, that doesn't appeal to a wide age group these days. Why does Big Top 40 Circus have 2.5 million, with a nonsense chart? Possibly because their audience are as daft, as the show itself (plus they give away free mobile phones, every week) & the average listener doesn't have a mind to make opinions & let media tales, rule their empty heads.
  20. Very helpful Robbie. Thanks for that useful piece of info. Looking at the Top 100 for the year & the send away supplement, "Victims" & Culture Club is #98. This indicates that that chart covers up to w/k ending 24th (I think) as the Gallup Panel Sales (if I've the right multiplier) gives something like 160,000 sales. Which would have to be just 3 weeks of sales i.e. w/k endings 10th/17th/24th, as it couldn't possibly be 4 weeks. I await Gezza's figures, patiently....
  21. The myth I have in mind is that the w/k ending 7th Jan 84 is the actual chart, for the w/k ending 31st Dec 83. (As in) up to the sales to 24th Dec. Hence why Frank Kelly, George Cole etc are still climbing. That is the opinion I have in mind. I'm not knocking your figures. I'd just like to compare them to what I have to see, which week likely may have really missed a chart. The Radio One show had Flying Pickets at 26 for the year. The one you refer to has them at #9. The MRIB Top 50 of 1983, has them at #4.
  22. I don't think it's really a dream. The problem is BMRB & Gallup & whatever, probably put all their stuff in a vault soewhere, when they died & Milward Brown, don't have any access to it. It's what happens when they keep changing Market Research companies. The company that started it, should still be compiling the charts for continuity. It's lunacy that figures are way out in later compiled best selling lists (as in the Best Selling Christmas Songs, the other year). We do need to get it into people's heads that "OCC" do NOT compile the charts. The are mearly supervisors, with a hefty stake in paying Milward Brown. This 1983 talk (I believe) to be a myth. From what I have, Gallup didn't compile a chart for this "frozen" week in 1983. Radio One took figures from w/k ending 15th Jan 83 to w/k ending 17th Dec 83. The chart in the special supplement went up to w/k ending 24th Dec 83. Though (in truth) the complete best sellers should cover w/k ending 15th Jan 83 to w/k ending 7th Jan 1984. It could be that (likely) the "frozen" chart is wrongly placed in dates. Gallup would have compiled a chart up to 24th Dec 83 (to be announced on R1 on Tues 27th Dec). R1 wouldn't of used a chart that week....Though they announced one on the next week, which would of been upto 31st Dec 83....Which surely would really be a "frozen" chart for w/k ending 7th Jan 84? Gezza...Have you the run of figures for all the weeks that the Flying Pickets were in the chart & also the Top 10 sales, for the w/k ending 24th Dec 83? Then I can compare. The rest of the years 1980 to 82, make sense (with no missed weeks) & there is no problem with the 1984 to 89 sweep. A note somewhere says "December 84 was the first time Gallup did a chart for every week of the year" & the top sellers of 1984 covered w/k ending 14th Jan 84 to w/k ending 5th Jan 1985.
  23. Have you got that to hand? I did not see that one, so I added on the extra's from MRIB to cover. The chart for the Best Sellers of 1983, went up to w/k ending 24th Dec, I thought....Or have I added the extra week & didn't need too? Is that what you mean? The chart for 31st Dec 83....Was it compiled then, coz I never saw it at Gallup HQ?
  24. Spent a few days in their offices in the early 80s. And the same for Record Business Research, too. During 1990, I also went down to Gallup's. I've also did the same for 1970s Panel Sales twice (in 1973 & 1980). Thus comparing RB & BMRB. Record Business attempted to do a chart panel based Best Sellers of the 1970s, But that fail fowl to using BPI figures, from 1970 to 1977 against RB's for 1978 - 79. That one makes incorrect viewing, for the non use of BMRB Panel sales from 70 - 77. I've a correct Chart Panel based BMRB Top 500 of the 70s. Which I may post in the near future.
