Infact it is a Sunday only chart & does not take into account anything that has happened between Mon & Sat...That's how it's ahead of anything else. We say that because some people were saying "How can Wretch 32, be ahead of Nero with one days sales of Wretch & 6 days of Nero. Simple thing is Sunday sellers altogether, without the other week's sales, say Wretch had passed Nero by 4pm. Which is out cut off period.
  2. No, I don't think that there are more oldies played on the radio, than there used to be because: a) Radio Stations tend to play the same stuff over & over every week, plus Gold plays the same 200 songs week in, week out. B) Less oldies are played, because Radio Stations have been come stagnant in "Brand" & lazy. c) You would think more variety in oldies would be apparent, because downloading has made finding more stuff easier, but like I said Radio Stations are stuck in a rut & probably the people that listen to them, most having cabbage for brains to listen to them in the first place i.e. any Heart Station, Capital, Gold et al. d) Radio One is beyond a decent oldie base. e) Radio 2 is a "Celebrity" Station, & even specialist shows are not great in playing a more varied oldie selection i.e. Blackburn's awful POTP.

Well now, Disc began in February 1958 as a top 20. Became a top 30 in 1962, but the top 50 was shortlived & went back to a top 30 in April 1967 because the 31 - 50 was not widely accurate & open to hype. The Melody Maker also decreased to a top 30 at the same time for the same reasons. Which is why the BBC did not use a bigger selection until 1978. From 2nd September 1967 until Disc algamated with Record Mirror in 1971, they used the same chart as Melody Maker. They did go back to a top 50 from September 1969. I have both charts, & if you PM me, we might come to some arrangement. I'm surprised that you want them actually, because you've previously slated every other chart except the boring, small polled Record Retailer charts!! But do PM me...
  4. They were various R1 DJs Records Of The Week.
  5. Now I don't know if this is true, but some lunatic (who can't spell at all or string a sentence together) on Facebook has said that during August, Radio 2 will be repeating some of Alan Freeman's original POTPs on Sundays at 1pm. That would mean the 1967 to 1972 period. Though it all depends if this nutter on Facebook is actually speaking the truth!
  6. And Smooth Radio too! They are both called Adult stations, hence teenager stations (who influence the chart) don't bother with them. An unfair society & the chart not influencing the Adult audience because the older generation, don't download much. There was a lot of phone calls to Smooth about purchasing "Whats Going On-Rain Forest" the Paul Hardcastle track. However it's download only & adults would rather by it in the shops.
  7. Rene & Renato did have another top 75 single in 1983.
  8. Depeche Mode don't have the physical release until next month.
  9. 12 inch
  10. Blind Faith

They chose 1976, because that's when the show reached it's peak...although all those 1976 shows have already been re-run on Eins Festival the German channel & there are gaps because there are a whole bunch missing. Including the one in November 1976, where the winner of the competition to name the new dancers, who were given the name "Legs & Co" of course. So, if they run the remaining ones from 76 in order, on the week they were broadcasted...it will be impossible to do. Most of the missing ones from 1976, were the ones introduced by Jimmy Savile & Dave Lee Travis. There is also one from September 76, where David Hamilton made a gaff (when his drink was spiked)...David introduced "Rod Stewart & The Killing Of Georgie Fame"...big mistake & don't expect to see that one! Plus they have not got 43 years to choose from...Complete editions from 1964 - 67 are wiped & there are only a couple from 1968 remaining & barely any from 1969. Many from 1970 - 75 are also missing i.e. junked & you'd have to go to 1978 - 2007 for a complete run, with none missing. The Christmas editions from 1972 onwards exist. Though these were made throughout the 70s without a studio audience & any performances by Mr Gary Glitter, have been cut out.
  12. Not likely for Wheatus. Maybe for Wiz.
  13. Absolutely Eric! You have to add them together to combine them as one. I'm just stating where they would be if they were not together.
  14. If they can't play 40 songs in 3 Hours then there must be something wrong with them. Personally I'd be playing the top 50 in 3 hours & not missing any out. It's all about being slick & using the fader a la Tom Browne & Simon Bates.
  15. Eric....Listen to Jason Scott http://www.thesuperstation.info on Sundays. The complete top 40 plus the 41-50 sneaky peak, & at 7pm the New Releases/Bubblers in the Ones To Watch...a chart show that's 4 hours long & you'll hear some 64 songs, well almost!
  16. I contacted the person responsible for Big Top 40, a few months after it started. He was rather clueless in his answers & said that Independant Radio could never use a chart without including airplay because it represents what the listener wants to hear! This made me laugh because airplay on stations like Capital & Heart etc all try to tell us that we should be listening too, months after it was first released. They were still playing Rule The World a la Take That, 2 years after release! Florence & the Machine are a big no no, they tell us. Then this chap also told me that if I wanted to listen to a sales chart, where they play the complete top 40 then I should tune into Radio One. Another laugh because they haven't played the complete top 40 since 2003. So we can sum up the Independant Radio bods are so out of touch its untrue. Apparently Capital & Heart aim themselves at the average 20 year old nutty female, & ignore everyone else. Then you have this Gold station, where they play the same 200 tracks over & over again 24/7. This one made me laugh, when on a request show the presenter told a listener that they didn't have The Last Waltz on their system...shocking when you think this song was a million seller & the station is apparently for the over 50s! There must be something wrong with people totally, if they actually listen to this rubbish week in, week out. Rather time that the Government closed the lot down for all being the same, when they are supposed to be Independant of what they do, & Local too...which has now all gone & is a former shadow of what Radio by the IBA was set out to be in 1973. Rather harsh here, but when Smooth Radio is the best Independant Station (and isn't very good anyhow) what the hell is there too listen too. You got the 12 year olds at R1 & Celebrity Radio 2 without talent or your regular professional except Ken Bruce of course. Then there's Tony Blackburn on this POTP rubbish...no format in this tired show that should never had returned after 1992's axe. You want to do a Vintage Chart Show? Then have a proper format, where you cycle years over a monthly period & don't play the same old tired out boring biased records.
  17. That happens anyway Robbie. I seem to remember a Pink track spending about 5 weeks at number 11 once because of the airplay. It's stupid because if sales are combined 50/50 with airplay we've seen what happens. A track at #14 in the sales chat, will only turned up at around 34 in this major codswallop, when the stagnant independant radio playlists keep the likes of Olly Murs in the top 15 for like 3 months! In comparison to the old Network Chart it's nothing like it. The airplay element was only about 10% & they didn't use it for fallers outside the top 30. It made more sense & you'd get more new entries rather like the Fresh Hit top 40 today on the Superstation.
  18. Yes ErIc, but the Full week on iTunes is counted down at the start of the show to beat Radio One to the top ten first. It ain't because they do the Live top ten later. When they drop out of their top 10, it's all airplay & the Live version doesn't get much airplay on Independant Radio & they wouldn't play f*** You, would they! Although that chart is rather nonsensical anyway.
  19. Midweeks have always been around in some form. Even NME were doing a separate midweek chart in 1965, & from 1966 it was used by Radio Luxembourg. Although the regular NME chart broke off on Fridays anyway. The Chart show originally ran the Network Chart (MRIB), then switched to a Tuesday chart but this covered the previous Wednesday to the following Tuesday. Then CDUK, carried a Saturday chart although this went up to Friday night only. Today Chart Show TV do the top 20 singles on Saturdays at 9am, but their's is a Wednesday chart & if there is no video for a certain track every other song is moved up one place. So, at times you have the number 25 as number 20!
  20. An Import actually costing about 7 quid.
  21. Well Culture Club & Shakin' Stevens managed to sell some 200,000 that week & were very close to each other, but on the other hand Renee & Renato did sell well over 250,000 copies to get there. This was in a week, when even the number 11 shifted 80,000. Cliff did manage a number 11 peak & David Essex did rise to a top 3 placing in January 1983.

Take Cotton & Yates off of it & put a half decent presenter on it & it would be worth watching. Those are the 2 acts that ruin it. ;)
  23. Capital will be some what National next year, but it just means more buy outs & the loss of more Local Radio. It won't really have any effect on R1, as R1 is aimed at teenagers. Don't expect R1 to return to the Chart Shows, like they used to produce. The Top 40 is aimed at those that actually buy these "so called" hits. And they are 90% of 12 to 25 year olds. The singles chart has a really small audience anyhow, when compared to the 15million that used to listen in the 1967-84 period, which was the hey day of R1. 1.5million now listen to Reggie Yates, over 2million listen to the Big Top 40. So, where have 11million gone? I think they've just grown up, & realise Capital & Radio 1 are pretty naff, along with the songs that go with it. The mentality of these people that listen is pretty low. All you've got is the nutcases that think anything to do with X Factor & charity are great, along with others that think Rihanna has a great voice. Not only are they daft, they actually reply to Yates requests to text in & tell him what they think is going to be number one...If they had any sense, they'd already know, as it's plastered all over the net all week! It's a waste of time complaining about either station, because they don't listen to the average person. Just listen to something else. Future radio lies on the Internet, probably as entertainment in general, not by worn out stations that should've been closed down years ago.
  24. That's when they do 2 charts in one show & miss half of them out. Join Jason Scott, for the top 50 of 2010 on the 2nd at 4pm via theSuperstation http://thesuperstation.info
