  1. If they can't play 40 songs in 3 Hours then there must be something wrong with them. Personally I'd be playing the top 50 in 3 hours & not missing any out. It's all about being slick & using the fader a la Tom Browne & Simon Bates.
  2. Eric....Listen to Jason Scott http://www.thesuperstation.info on Sundays. The complete top 40 plus the 41-50 sneaky peak, & at 7pm the New Releases/Bubblers in the Ones To Watch...a chart show that's 4 hours long & you'll hear some 64 songs, well almost!
  3. I contacted the person responsible for Big Top 40, a few months after it started. He was rather clueless in his answers & said that Independant Radio could never use a chart without including airplay because it represents what the listener wants to hear! This made me laugh because airplay on stations like Capital & Heart etc all try to tell us that we should be listening too, months after it was first released. They were still playing Rule The World a la Take That, 2 years after release! Florence & the Machine are a big no no, they tell us. Then this chap also told me that if I wanted to listen to a sales chart, where they play the complete top 40 then I should tune into Radio One. Another laugh because they haven't played the complete top 40 since 2003. So we can sum up the Independant Radio bods are so out of touch its untrue. Apparently Capital & Heart aim themselves at the average 20 year old nutty female, & ignore everyone else. Then you have this Gold station, where they play the same 200 tracks over & over again 24/7. This one made me laugh, when on a request show the presenter told a listener that they didn't have The Last Waltz on their system...shocking when you think this song was a million seller & the station is apparently for the over 50s! There must be something wrong with people totally, if they actually listen to this rubbish week in, week out. Rather time that the Government closed the lot down for all being the same, when they are supposed to be Independant of what they do, & Local too...which has now all gone & is a former shadow of what Radio by the IBA was set out to be in 1973. Rather harsh here, but when Smooth Radio is the best Independant Station (and isn't very good anyhow) what the hell is there too listen too. You got the 12 year olds at R1 & Celebrity Radio 2 without talent or your regular professional except Ken Bruce of course. Then there's Tony Blackburn on this POTP rubbish...no format in this tired show that should never had returned after 1992's axe. You want to do a Vintage Chart Show? Then have a proper format, where you cycle years over a monthly period & don't play the same old tired out boring biased records.
  4. That happens anyway Robbie. I seem to remember a Pink track spending about 5 weeks at number 11 once because of the airplay. It's stupid because if sales are combined 50/50 with airplay we've seen what happens. A track at #14 in the sales chat, will only turned up at around 34 in this major codswallop, when the stagnant independant radio playlists keep the likes of Olly Murs in the top 15 for like 3 months! In comparison to the old Network Chart it's nothing like it. The airplay element was only about 10% & they didn't use it for fallers outside the top 30. It made more sense & you'd get more new entries rather like the Fresh Hit top 40 today on the Superstation.
  5. Yes ErIc, but the Full week on iTunes is counted down at the start of the show to beat Radio One to the top ten first. It ain't because they do the Live top ten later. When they drop out of their top 10, it's all airplay & the Live version doesn't get much airplay on Independant Radio & they wouldn't play f*** You, would they! Although that chart is rather nonsensical anyway.
  6. Midweeks have always been around in some form. Even NME were doing a separate midweek chart in 1965, & from 1966 it was used by Radio Luxembourg. Although the regular NME chart broke off on Fridays anyway. The Chart show originally ran the Network Chart (MRIB), then switched to a Tuesday chart but this covered the previous Wednesday to the following Tuesday. Then CDUK, carried a Saturday chart although this went up to Friday night only. Today Chart Show TV do the top 20 singles on Saturdays at 9am, but their's is a Wednesday chart & if there is no video for a certain track every other song is moved up one place. So, at times you have the number 25 as number 20!
  7. An Import actually costing about 7 quid.

Last Years Big Top 40 2009...RATM were only 21. 01 I Gotta Feeling 02 Pokerface 03 Just Dance 04 Fight For This Love 05 Boom Boom Pow 06 Bad Boys 07 In For The Kill 08 Sexy Bitch 09 Number One 10 The Fear 11 Use Somebody 12 Meet Me Halfway 13 Bullletproof 14 Broken Strings 15 Right Round 16 Beat Again 17 Paparazi 18 Jai Ho 19 When Love Takes Over 20 Halo 21 RATM 22 Sex On Fire 23 I'm Not Alone 24 Evacuate The Dancefloor 25 Empire State Of Mind 26 I'm Yours 27 Single Ladies 28 Sweet Dreams 29 Red 30 Not Fair 31 Bonkers 32 Break Your Heart 33 Love Story 34 Release Me 35 Supernova 36 Knock You Down 37 Shake It 38 Don't Upset The Rhythm 39 Breathe Slow 40 The Climb Only Peter Kay, Kid Cudi didn't make their chart of the year. It happen (mostly because Big Top 40 is nonsense)...but in this case it's because there are no physicals used on Big Top 40 & RATM sold more iTunes downloads at that point, as the Big Top 40 of 2009 only had iTunes sales up to 26th December. With the top ten based purely on iTunes sales & the 11-40 mashed up with the "nonsense airplay" of Britain's boring Independant Radio chiefs. Will we all be tuning in tomorrow at 4pm, for the Big Top 40 Of 2010? I won't for sure, but at least they are doing it in a seperate show...unlike R1!
  10. Well Culture Club & Shakin' Stevens managed to sell some 200,000 that week & were very close to each other, but on the other hand Renee & Renato did sell well over 250,000 copies to get there. This was in a week, when even the number 11 shifted 80,000. Cliff did manage a number 11 peak & David Essex did rise to a top 3 placing in January 1983.

Take Cotton & Yates off of it & put a half decent presenter on it & it would be worth watching. Those are the 2 acts that ruin it. ;)
  12. Capital will be some what National next year, but it just means more buy outs & the loss of more Local Radio. It won't really have any effect on R1, as R1 is aimed at teenagers. Don't expect R1 to return to the Chart Shows, like they used to produce. The Top 40 is aimed at those that actually buy these "so called" hits. And they are 90% of 12 to 25 year olds. The singles chart has a really small audience anyhow, when compared to the 15million that used to listen in the 1967-84 period, which was the hey day of R1. 1.5million now listen to Reggie Yates, over 2million listen to the Big Top 40. So, where have 11million gone? I think they've just grown up, & realise Capital & Radio 1 are pretty naff, along with the songs that go with it. The mentality of these people that listen is pretty low. All you've got is the nutcases that think anything to do with X Factor & charity are great, along with others that think Rihanna has a great voice. Not only are they daft, they actually reply to Yates requests to text in & tell him what they think is going to be number one...If they had any sense, they'd already know, as it's plastered all over the net all week! It's a waste of time complaining about either station, because they don't listen to the average person. Just listen to something else. Future radio lies on the Internet, probably as entertainment in general, not by worn out stations that should've been closed down years ago.
  13. That's when they do 2 charts in one show & miss half of them out. Join Jason Scott, for the top 50 of 2010 on the 2nd at 4pm via theSuperstation http://thesuperstation.info
  14. If I returned to work for the BBC (Not likely, as it's now certified a shower), first of all axe Radio One altogether, change Radio 2's name to reflect a more approriate audience. The R2 Audience age range is about 15-45. Broadcast the Top 40 on the new R2 (think I'd call Radio 2, Family Radio). The host of the Top 40 wouldn't be any of the current gang. It'd would be Sean Tilley, dynamic presenter with lots of Radio experience in his 40s. Lots of fantastic jingles & sound effects denoting fallers/climbers/new entries. Number jingles with the word "Number" included at front, not this blink & you miss "8" stuff. Slick stuff, hardly any chat, all 40 records played in 2 hours & 35minutes, that's all the time you need for 40 songs. Starting at 4-6.35 The Complete no nonsense Top 40 Countdown followed by the Clicks to Pick next Sunday...the 25 mins of New hits/Bubblers. That's it, no stupid texts from 5 year olds, no emails. Just factful info. So, slick it makes your head throb with dynamic presentation.
  15. He's got some true points. If I could actually read the charts without going blind, I might judge a bit better. My major point is the non inclusion about unregistered tracks, not being included. Milward Brown do the research for OCC. This register business, is rather comical. When someone has registered summat or not, is neither here nor there. I mean someone bought the damn thing, didn't they!
  16. No, I used MRIB. And it was number 15 there. Which was equivalent to some midweek chart at the time. I don't worry to much about this word "Official". It doesn't count for much really. Every chart is correct at some point, depending on how it's compiled. The OCC lot have a lot to answer for as much as any other chart, especially when they to don't always research enough to include everything that has been paid for. It only happens to be a Chart broadcasted by Radio One, & they ain't got hardly any listeners anyway. Then the thread is based on, & tributed to MRIB's Charts anyway.
  17. Probably the last one, not the 1st or 2nd because it wouldn't have many passengers & would probably overtake the other 2! Although the Number 12 goes to Woodley Airfield & only runs a couple an hour & I've no intention of going there. It beggars the question how did they manage to catch up with each other in the first place these 3 buses?!
  18. She'll likely knock out Corey Taylor as on Wednesday she was only at number 50.
  19. Probably a case of the 45plus group would back the Songs that are played on Smooth Radio (for the Ladies) & maybe Absolute (for the men). So the likes of Rumer would come up trumps & maybe a touch of Kylie & Akon. Although I don't imagine too many would care for the irritating Akon without Michael Jackson on it! It's a fallacy that over 45s listen to Radio 2 in millions. They should be concentrating on them, but do not. So, all we are left with is Independant Radio. In my case it hads to be Smooth, but it isn't a very good station because of the repetetive playlists. They just try to pull listeners with a line up of Simon Bates, Pat Sharp, Mark Goodier, & Andy Peebles...strange really because at one time or another, all 5 of them have presented Chart Shows.
  20. Trying to discover if anyone over 45 has actually bought any singles this Christmas!

Although there was something a little heart warming about Save You Love, wasn't there? And how Culture Club & Shakin' Stevens were so close behind those 2 on that Friday. Richard Allinson certainly thought so on his UK Top 30 on Capital. Shame about Tommy Vance wasn't it? Did Radio One miss a trick there in 1982, they could've reinstated Alan Freeman on the Top 40, as his Pick Of The Pops-Take Two became Capital's biggest listened too show at this point. Where as some of Radio One's audience of the Top 40 were not too happy. 25. It doesn't sound dumb at all. I not quite sure how that system works. Possibly if there is someone who sells better physicals, they are slid in between the rest of the other songs that are included just on downloads to show how they might be doing. But I'll check it out.
