The Almost Saturday Charts w/k ending 15th Oct 2010
That would've been on the Radio One Chart, yep. We don't use that. It's MRIB all the way for us. Although Sure took right until the Saturday to outsell more than Whigfield & then it was a small gap.

And wasn't it great a week ahead, those new number oness before the snail. Or were you being rather boring & listening to Richard Skinner with an out of date chart? Mind you Radio One were still pulling in some 10 million, but look at it this way: Jimmy Savile actually got more listeners than the Top 40...as The Network Chart pulled in some 4 million ex-Radio One listeners as the Network grew each week. By 1994, Radio One was no longer top chart at just 6 million compared to the 7 million of the Pepsi Chart then with Neil Fox. 25 years from 1985, only 4 million people listen to any chart. 01 01 POWER OF LOVE - JENNIFER RUSH 02 03 TRAPPED - COLNEL ABRAMS 03 07 TAKE ON ME - A-HA 04 08 ST ELMO'S FIRE - JOHN PARR 05 05 ALIVE AND KICKING - SIMPLE MINDS 06 20 MIAMI VICE THEME - JAN HAMMER 07 13 SLAVE TO THE RHYTHM - GRACE JONES 08 02 LEAN ON ME - REDBOX 09 10 GAMBLER - MADONNA 10 04 IF I WAS - MIDGE URE 11 31 NIKITA - ELTON JOHN 12 06 REBEL YELL - BILLY IDOL 13 11 SINGLE LIFE - CAMEO 14 33 LIPSTCK POWDER & PAINT - SHAKIN STEVENS 15 22 RAIN - CULT 16 27 SOMETHING ABOUT YOU - LEVEL 42 17 09 PART TIME LOVER - STEVIE WONDER 18 NE ELCTION DAY - ARCADIA 19 12 DANCING IN THE STREET - BOWIE & JAGGER 20 32 I BELIEVE - TEARS FOR FEARS 21 14 ANGEL - MADONNA 22 29 THIS IS ENGLAND - CLASH 23 35 YEH YEH - MATT BIANCO 24 38 BRING ON THE DANCING HORSES - ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN 25 16 BODY ROCK - MARIA VIDAL 26 NE TASTE OF YOUR TEARS - KING 27 17 HOLDING OUT FOR A HERO - BONNIE TYLER 28 26 LOVE TAKEOVER - FIVE STAR 29 NE KING FOR A DAY - THOMPSON TWINS 30 15 SHE'S SO BEAUTIFUL - CLIFF RICHARD Top Pre-Order Singles this week 01 LOVE YOU MORE - JLS 15th Nov 02 PROMISE THIS - CHERYL COLE 25th Oct 03 FLOOD - TAKE THAT 15th Nov 04 ONLY GIRL - RIHANNA 25th Oct 05 SAFE - WESTLIFE 8th Nov 06 MY WICKED HEART - DIANA VICKERS 1st Nov 07 GOTTA BE SOMEBODY - SHAYNE WARD 8th Nov 08 WELL WELL WELL - DUFFY 22nd Nov 09 THINKING OF YOU - OLLY MURS 22nd Nov 10 STAY THE NIGHT - JAMES BLUNT 1st Nov Ho ho ho...Do I see the end for Take That with this single? No! But you were robbed last week, when everyone but OCC included Party Hit Kings & they didn't. A recount on the word "Official" please. How can something be so, when some 18,000 sales were ignored.

There were 4 channels then, but Sky was up & running. Obviously yes they were just about to increase their number of subscribers, but I think Dave said the other week (& I can confirm) British TV viewing figures actually peaked in 1976, & have fallen ever since. When you think that in 1976/77, no Soaps topped the chart. It comes to make you think. It would be interesting to see what TV figures would be like today, if we did just have 5 channels. TV Bosses would have to try much harder, as Soaps alone would'nt wash. Not only is their Digital TV & Sky, but of course DVDs have kicked off since, although video recorders weren't run of the meal until around 1990 anyway. I remember in 1988 going to WhSmiths, & there were some Dr Who videos on sale. The Price?? A wopping £35 & it was only a hour & a half! :o

The Almost Saturday Charts w/k ending 8th Oct 2010
She shouldn't slip really as she's around 26 on iTunes, & started the week around 32. A combination you can use on a person with a big physical is to add the physical position to the iTunes position i.e. 26 iTunes + number one physical = 27 divided by 2 = 13.5. So, either way she's unlikely to get below 13. It's a random way to work it out, but it usually is quite acurate. It was pretty much the same for Rumer, t'other week.

Smallest gap between #1 and #2
Going back to that 1991 October 20th R1 Top 40. The Top 5 were: 01 Bryan Adams 02 2Unlimited 03 Scorpions 04 Kiri Te Kanawa 05 Monty Python Kiri was indeed a-top the Network Chart. On the previous week on said show, Kiri was number 4, with Scorpions at 2 (although number one across London). I would say that the Oct 20th chart, must have been very very close between the whole top 5 or even top 6, as Vic Reeves "Dizzy" was not far away at 6. On the following week the top 6 were juggled into positions 2-7, with U2 & "The Fly" crashing in at number one. I don't reckon those weeks are likely to occur near that again.

For some reason (which someone might clarify) The Pinkees & Danger Games did not chart at all on the Record Business top 120. Richard Allinson presented the UK Top 30 part on Capital Radio 194, at 2pm every Sunday ahead of the BBC. Although this week in 1982, we were quite lucky because Simon Bates was sitting in for the disaster that was Tommy Vance (hard to believe it took 2 years before they finally removed him). The Line-up of Adrian Juste, Jimmy Savile's Old Record Club, Music Now (with David Jensen, & some new releases), the Great Rock N' Roll Trivia Quiz, the top 40, & Anne Nightingale's Request Show took us through Radio One's schedule on a Sunday. That was what brought it up. Someone was talking about Beautiful People (cos it's set Reading), but I remember the story be used before. Certainly over the last 30 years, that why I don't think it was Sykes. The Sykes storyline (abeit holiday) concerns Eric & Hat going to the airport & missing the plane, then spending a week at Gatwick airport. It's been nagging on me all week.

It's Friday 8th October (not 2th Sept as it says. That's just Dave in preparation) Evening All. Alan Rogers standing in for Dave for the next 2 weeks. Dave's on holiday. I'm not (unfortunately  ). Glad to be jumping his account & PC though. Well it didn't seem worth joining as a new member as Dave already did a template for me. Only hope I don't log myself out, because I don't know his secret password, & I'm also invisible by the look of the members online list. Thanks to Mikey for his welcoming message the other day>>Thanks mate. Hopefully no probs. Message from Dave, Mikey was>>Will you send me the usual chart on Sunday Evening? Cheers. ;) A lovely day today with temperatures topping out at 70 degrees in the heart of Berkshire. Must've been the hottest October day this Century. On with job, eyes down looking, as it's business as usual. I usually help the old boy (Dave that is) with the gang & it's the charts of the week from Sun to Fri, based on the usual claptrap of averages/sales & then the back in an hour or so, for the big singles/songs of the week. It's all put together by a panel of exchart bods, calling themselves DTR (a non profitting org) The Top Books 01 NE WORTH DYING FOR - LEE CHILD 02 NE 30 MINUTE MEALS - JAMIE OLIVER 03 10 GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNET'S NEST - STEIG LARSSON 04 01 FRY CHRONICLES - STEPHEN FRY 05 02 61 HOURS - LEE CHILD 06 03 DEVIL RIDES OUT - PAUL O'GRADY 07 04 GUINESS WORLD RECORDS - GUINESS BOOKS 08 08 A WEEK IN DECEMBER - SEBASTIAN FAULKES 09 NE EAT PRAY LOVE - ELIZABETH GILBERT 10 09 LOST SYMBOL - DAN BROWN The Top Games 01 02 FIFA 11 02 01 HALO: REACH 03 03 F1 2010 04 04 DEAD RISING 2 05 06 RESIDENT EVIL 5 06 05 ART ACADEMY 07 08 JUST DANCE 08 09 TIGER WOODS PGA TOUR 11 09 07 SPORTS CHAMPIONS 10 RE PRINCE OF PERSIA: FORGOTTEN SANDS The Top Dvd Films 01 01 ROBIN HOOD DIRECTORS CUT 02 02 STREET DANCE 3D 03 03 KICK ASS 04 04 PRINCE OF PERSIA 05 05 BACK UP PLAN 06 06 LAST SONG 07 NE BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL 08 07 SHERLOCK HOLMES 09 11 DEATH AT A FUNERAL 10 08 THE GHOST The Top UK Box Office Films 01 01 THE OTHER GUYS 02 03 THE TOWN 03 NE BURIED 04 02 EAT PRAY LOVE 05 04 HOLE 3D 06 NE MADE IN DAGENHAM 07 NE BACK TO THE FUTURE 08 06 TOY STORY 3 09 05 DEVIL 10 07 GROWN UPS I went to see Eat Pray Love last week. The audience were mainly ladies (which was a bonus on it's own). The film itself (from the book of course) does just like the title suggests. Liz Gilbert (the main character) gets divorced, & travels the world. Eating in Italy, Praying in India, & finding love in Bali. Though I did actually understand why the audience was mainly ladies, & found it rather cliched. Infact the top 5 will. Rumer definately a Smooth Radio push, & they've got Mr Boring working for them, or is it Mr Mistake? That's Mark Goodier. If you've have time to give him a listen Mon-Fri 10am-1pm, you'll see what I mean. Reading some of Dave's comments on him, I quite see what he means. I can understand why Mark, no longer works for the BBC. I know his ex-top 40 producer, & remembering him saying Mark has a brain like a sieve, & he had to write everything down for him. Well thanks to Bray there, for pointing that out. I must admit to not being the greatest fan of TT. Can't help but think, that maybe there's no room in music for innuendo. Keep it clean, I say! The Almost Saturday Charts w/k ending 8th Oct 2010
Friday 1st October Just 12 weeks to Christmas! The usual selection of charts based on average sales & positions for the week. All put together by the incredible team at DTR (a non profitting Radio Group). This will be the last one from me for a bit (Hurray, you cry!) because I've got to have a holiday in the sun before Winter. I shall hand over my account to Alan for next week. I wonder why! Bruce Forsyth was on his 2nd series of the re-vamp Friday night showing "Generation Game". I'm never a fan of shows that come back years later, but perhaps I'd make an exception in Bruce's case. Although, Jim Davidson killed it later with his enormous ego & childish atempt at humour. The Scorpions were robbed of that number one spot & only Kiri Te Kanawa could stop Bryan. Although on the London Chart, the Scorpions did spend 2 weeks at the top. 1991 also gave the first Midweek chart to listen to via Capital FM. On a Wednesday it were, with someone called Neil Fox. Much better days for Independant Radio...before they decided to totally make up the charts! Although in 1991, Mariah Carey's "Emotions" did hop up to number 6 on Capital's Local top 40, while it barely scraped top 20 on the Network Chart (still introduced by David Kid Jensen at this point). I don't recall Tina Turner re-entrying the chart, but she did apparently. The rather splendid version of Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me by Oleta Adams, was so much better that George Michael fella's, while the PJB version of Bridge Over Troubled Water was just total garbage, already ruin by Linda Clifford some 12 years before. 01 01 EVERYTHING I DO - BRYAN ADAMS 02 03 LOVE TO HATE YOU - ERASURE 03 02 LET'S TALK ABOUT S** - SALT N'PEPA 04 06 PEACE - SABRINA JOHNSTON 05 09 EVERYBODYS FREE TO FEEL GOOD - ROZALLA 06 05 INSANITY - OCEANIC 07 27 WIND OF CHANGE - SCORPIONS 08 13 SOMETHING GOT ME STARTED - SIMPLY RED 09 14 SUCH A FEELING - BIZARRE INC 10 10 CAN'T STOP THIS THING WE STARTED - BRYAN ADAMS 11 24 SALTWATER - JULIAN LENNON 12 16 SUCH A GOOD FEELING - BROTHERS IN RHYTHM 13 08 SUNSHINE ON A RAINY DAY - ZOE 14 17 NUTBUSH CITY LIMITS - TINA TURNER 15 31 JACKY - MARC ALMOND 16 18 ONE I LOVE - R.E.M. 17 11 WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR ME - UTAH SAINTS 18 15 CREAM - PRINCE 19 04 I'M TOO SEXY - RIGHT SAID FRED 20 NE BEST OF YOU - KENNY THOMAS 21 22 BRIDGE OF TROUBLED WATER - PJB/HANNAH AND HER SISTERS 22 07 DON'T CRY - GUNS N ROSES 23 36 LIVE YOUR LIFE BE FREE - BELINDA CARLISLE 24 12 CHARLY - PRODIGY 25 33 DON'T LET THE SUN GO DOWN ON ME - OLETA ADAMS 26 50 I THINK I LOVE YOU - VOICE OF THE BEEHIVE 27 32 TRY - BROS 28 30 FEEL EVERY BEAT - ELECTRONIC 29 19 20TH CENTURY BOY - T.REX 30 20 GETT IT OFF - PRINCE 31 40 LIVE FOR LOVING YOU - GLORIA ESTEFAN 32 42 INTERNAL EXILE - FISH 33 39 IS IT GOOD FOR YOU - HEAVY D AND THE BOYZ 34 44 I BELONG TO YOU - WHITNEY HOUSTON 35 21 LOVE...THY WILL BE DONE - MARTIKA 36 NE TOO MANY WALLS - CATHY DENNIS 37 NE NO MORE TEARS - OZZY OSBOURNE 38 NE LOVE'S A LOADED GUN - OZZY OSBOURNE 39 23 MAKIN HAPPY - CRYSTAL WATERS 40 NE SPECIAL WAY - RIVER CITY PEOPLE The Top Pre-Order Singles this week: 01 01 SHAME - ROBBIE AND GARY 4th Oct 02 NE f*** YOU - CEE LO GREEN 4th Oct 03 02 RADIO ACTIVE - KOL 4th Oct 04 NE PERFECT STRANGER - MAGNETIC MAN/KATY BRIEN 4th Oct 05 05 I'LL BE THERE - STAND 25th Oct The Top Pre-Order Albums this week 01 01 COME AROUND SUNDOWN - KOL 18th Oct 02 03 IN AND OUT OF CONSCIOUSNESS - ROBBIE WILLIAMS 11th Oct 03 04 DISC-OVERY - TINIE TEMPAH 4th Oct 04 02 tba - TAKE THAT 22nd Nov 05 08 SEASONS OF MY SOUL - RUMER 1st Nov Not discounting Rumer here. Can anyone help with a good memory? The other day a bunch of us were discussing TV Sitcoms. We were try to rack our brains into which Sitcom had this plot: The people of the house can't afford a holiday, but want the rest of the street to think they are on holiday. So, they go out of the front door & double back round to the back door. They go back in the house & try to stay out of sight for a week, not switching on any lights or anything. Can anyone remember which Sitcom featured that Storyline? I've been trying all week & I can't get it. I thought it may have been "Sykes", but don't think it was.

If they don't make the 40, then they will never be included because the BBC do not recognise positions outside the top 40 & are not allowed to mention positions 41-75 anyway.

Friday 24th September The weekly guide, as to whats been hot or not this week. Based on sales averages & chart averages. All put together by the band of "merry" men of DTR (a non-profitting radio venture) The Top Books: 01 NE THE FRY CHRONICLES - STEPHEN FRY 02 02 61 HOURS - LEE CHILD 03 01 A JOURNEY - TONY BLAIR 04 NE GUINESS WORLD RECORDS 2010 05 03 A WEEK IN DECEMBER - SEBASTIAN FAULKES 06 NE BOOK OF TOMORROW - CECILIA AHERN 07 07 GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNET'S NEST - STIEG LARSSON 08 04 I SHALL WEAR MIDNIGHT - TERRY PRACHETT 09 05 LOST SYMBOL - DAN BROWN 10 NE DEVIL RIDES OUT - PAUL O'GRADY Surprisingly Tony Blair gets one of the biggest selling books of 2010. The only thing he's likely to be top of again! In his first whole week, Tony sold 63,000 in total which was a combo of the Hardback & the airport paperback. It wasn't the fastest selling book of all time though. That one goes to David Beckham. "My Side" sold 86,126 in 2 days & 103,508 in it's first full week, back in 2003. It's good to know that books in general are still selling well, in this lazy computer age. Though I must admit to reading the unpublished Dr Who Target novels online, but reading from a screen does tend to mess your eyes up, after a bit.
