That one though, not the original programme. It`s a re-make from the 90s, and in September 1967, Pick Of The Pops was running at the length of 90 minutes (not 60), and featured the new entries between 30 & 11, the new releases and the complete top 10. Where as, when Radio One started it increased to 2 hours, with the new entries 30 - 21, the new releases, and the complete top 20 from 5.55pm.

Actually got a plot, to sabotage the BigTop40 today. As we know on iTunes Telephone is #3 & #11, now wouldn`t it be fun to get that #11 version in the top 10 too, for 6pm! How would those two, at Capital explain that one?! Well they wouldn`t combine them, so they will get the number one 100% wrong anyway!

Back in March 2008, at least one edition pulled in 12 million. So yep, you are correct!

Yep, no rules for us! What`s the reason for Milward Brown`s/OCC dis-allowance? So far, for us it`s peaked at 66.

It would seem a good idea, it this particular chart was used by Independant Radio instead of that awful BigTop40. I also like the way, that both versions of Empire State Of Mind are lumped together.

I`ve amended the post Ben. You are right, the single never got released! A artist/title mix up by the team.

Unfotunate mistake Ben. As on this print-out there are 2 nineteens, as listed Agnes/Alphabeat/Gaga/Marina. I guess Agnes was a print error, as there are the 2 A initials, and wasn`t it supposed to be On And On, for Agnes. I seem to have a title of On My Heart, surely some mistake! And not made up as our learned friend says!

What was it called, you say? "And The Tears Came Tumblin`Down" is the answer. He was just 16, and this year he`s 63...and very tongue in cheek, as ever! Only the top 30 aired on the Network Chart in 1985, as David smoothey Jensen glanced into his Crystal Ball to predict 3 entries in the following week`s show. Those were "Now That We Found Love" from Third World, "Spend The Night" from the Cool Notes, & "Love Is A Battlefield" with Pat Benatar. All of them cracked the top 30, the next week. Wasn`t the programme so much better, than Radio One`s dire Richard Skinner, and the week behind chart?! Actually from memory...I believe this week in 1985, Timmy Mallet did the Network Top 30, and not the Kid...I was not listening to either show, mainly because there was a Wednesday Countdown on Radio Mercury with Pat Sharp, and quite superior. Strange how Pat, became the Kid`s stand in from 1989-1993! And Pat (of course) had previously worked for Radio One, between 82/83, and also presented Top Of The Pops. This Mercury Top 40, actually featured a midweek chart...possibly the first broadcasted, and lasted well into the 90s. An idea poached by Capital Radio in 1991, when all of a sudden Neil Fox presented a Wednesday show between 7.30 & 10pm. Clive Warren was his stand-in. And (of course) he became Mark Goodier`s stand in, around 1995...before the not so good Scott Mills. Clive Warren returned to local radio in the late 1990s, turning up around the Berkshire areas, and last heard on Reading 107fm. This week, the lockdown of the top 10 happened at 6pm, but the chart they lockdown with suddenly changed to a 6.10pm one, because all of a sudden the iTunes had 2 new in the top 10! Even more amazing Daisy Dares You managed to achieve 3 places on the chart in one show...going 25 26 6 in 2 hours. Then Dizzee And Florence fell from 4 to 33, and then Florence on her own fell from 17, out of the chart totally....Hell, what is that programme about?

Right! The problem being...Once you get lower in the chart, figures start becoming so close, it`s hard to decifer them. Returns in the 60s were so low in the 31-50 in all the charts that had a top 50, that half were hyped in by Radio Stations & Record companies. Music Papers would advertise a minor new release, and the next week it would appear in the top 50, regardless of any sales!

It`s still called an Official top 200, though Bray.

It was only known as the "Official" chart from 15th Feb 1969, when the British Market Research Bureau, joined forces with the BBC for the first computerised chart, that sampled 300 shops.. It was only a decision by Paul Gambaccini, to use it in Guiness, as it was the first to use a top 50. Being over a certain age, I should know. In the 60s, it counted for nowt because sampling was really small (only 25 shops). All the major record stores used Melody Maker on their walls (with 150 shops polled), and of course the BBC`s own chart was most followed, and more fairer. It also has to be said that NME Charts were not followed by Stores in the 50s either. Again, Melody Maker appeared on walls. Infact, Melody Maker was the first paper to feature a chart based on singles in the late 40s, but stopped it prematurely before starting it again in March 1956. NME was not the first to use a chart entirely based on Record sales. Tell you what old boy, give me an email and i`ll share the Disc/MM/BBC Charts with you, not something uncredible for the time.

The official chart did not start until February 1969, no arguments. Before then there wasn`t a proper official one.

If I take a sneaky guess...I would definately say Boyzone will top the album chart next week, as it tops every pre-order shop chart.

"No", I said "I think six should be enough!!!!" Also on Kids tv in 1982, we had the beginning of "Postman Pat". The theme provided by Ken Barrie, who actually went to the trouble of learning Japanese. Why did he do that you ask? Well in 1963, he was recording for the Embassy Record Label, which was owned by Woolworths for cheap re-makes of current hits. Under a different name, Ken recorded a version of the Kyu Sakimoto hit "Suki Yaki", and it was rather good too! :o The Top Albums in March 1982: With a brief Haircut 100 at the top, the Jam were ready to take over, and 2 Barbara`s in the top 10, with different spellings! 01 02 PELICAN WEST - HAIRCUT 100 02 01 LOVE SONGS - BARBRA STREISAND 03 NE THE GIFT - JAM 04 04 ACTION TRAX - VARIOUS 05 05 DARE - HUMAN LEAGUE 06 06 ARCHITECTURE AND MORALITY - OMD 07 07 NON STOP EROTIC CABARET - SOFT CELL 08 08 PEARLS - ELKIE BROOKS 09 03 DREAMING - VARIOUS 10 09 ALL FOR A SONG - BARBARA DICKSON 11 NE ONE NIGHT AT BUDOKAN - MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP 12 NE DIAMOND - SPANDAU BALLET 13 11 PRIVATE EYES - DARYL HALL/JOHN OATES 14 10 ENGLISH SETTLEMENT - XTC 15 16 TWENTY WITH A BULLET - VARIOUS 16 24 WESTWORLD - THEATRE OF HATE 17 20 FREEZE FRAME - J GEILS BAND 18 15 BAT OUT OF HELL - MEAT LOAF 19 14 DEADRINGER - MEAT LOAF 20 12 WORD OF MOUTH - TONI BASIL The Top Singles in March 1982: Remember listening to Mike Smith on Sundays on Capital Radio, with the UK Top 30 at 2pm? This was just before he joined Radio One. Where I think he replaced Paul Burnett, and took over the lunchtime slot, including the Tuesday new top 40 rundown at 12.45. The rest of the weekday line-up on Radio One was Pat Sharp, Mike Read (always turning up late for Breakfast), Simon Bates, Dave Lee Travis, Steve Wright, John Peel. Adrian John, Tony Blackburn, Adrian Juste, Jimmy Savile, Tommy Vance, Anne Nightingale, Andy Peebles were all part of the Weekend. With David "Kid" Jensen doing a Sunday show "Music Now", featuring new releases at 2.30pm. And remember "The Great Rock N`Roll Trivia Quiz" at 4.30? 01 01 THE LION SLEEPS TONIGHT - TIGHT FIT Steve Grant the male model, join 2 other session singers in the group that didn`t exist as one and re-make the Tokens 1962 top 20 hit 02 02 MICKEY - TONI BASIL another remake, originally from 1979 by Racey...but they called it "Kitty" 03 14 SEVEN TEARS - GOOMBAY DANCE BAND could`ve been Boney M really, made in Germany 04 03 LOVE PLUS ONE - HAIRCUT 100 Nick Heyward and the gang with hit 2 05 05 IT AIN`T WHAT YOU DO - FUNBOY THREE/BANANARAMA After the Specials, Terry Hall went on and up came "Fun Boy 3", then it was the join by Bananarama, and the girls first taste of success 06 04 CENTREFOLD - J GEILS BAND over to Massachusetts for the rock band formed in 1967 07 10 GO WILD IN THE COUNTRY - BOW WOW WOW Malcom McClaren put this lot together, which featured most of the original Adam And The Ants line-up, plus Annabella Lwin from Liverpool. It was created by McClaren to promote Vivienne Westwood`s clothing range, who he was partner of 08 11 POISON ARROW - ABC up to Sheffield for their first top-tenner 09 06 SEE YOU - DEPECHE MODE Dave Gahan and co from Basildon...Electro all the way 10 12 CLASSIC - ADRIAN GURVITZ originally with the band "The Gun" in the 60s, he later teamed up with his brother and Ginger Baker as the Baker Gurvitz Army 11 20 JUST AN ILLUSION - IMAGINATION Leee John, suddenly heading towards the top 10 again. Leee was also featured on hits by the Elgins/Deffonics/Chairmen Of The Board & the Velvelettes 12 08 RUN TO THE HILLS - IRON MAIDEN Bruce Dickinson and co, from Leyton. Such a shame, downloads will prevent a further hit for them...Maybe push them for the anti-Cowell campaign next Christmas. Tell you what, let`s start it now. IRON MAIDEN for CHRISTMAS NUMBER ONE! 13 24 YOURS - JULIO IGLESIAS the ex-footballer, forced to quit because of injury. Injury to his vocal chords, not apparent...although pigeon English, was! 14 16 STARS ON STEVIE - STARSOUND hit 4 for the Dutch based session singers, who did achieve another hit there, with an Andrew Sisters type thing. With a turn as "The Star Sisters", with a medley of late 40s stuff...Good for Radio 2, but no one else it seemed 15 13 CARDIAC ARREST - MADNESS a dodgy title, and a lack of airplay for Suggsy and co 16 07 TOWN CALLED MALICE - JAM Paul and the gang, and the last year of them 17 09 DEUTSCHER GIRLS - THE ORIGINAL ADAM AND THE ANTS well so popular was Stuart Goddard and co, that they re-released all their old stuff. Originally from 1977 this one, and re-recorded for John Peel`s Radio One show in 1978, and featuring the original line-up, that was poached by Malcom McClaren 18 17 SOME GUYS HAVE ALL THE LUCK - ROBERT PALMER 2 Vinegar Joe ex-members on this chart, the late Robert, and the other being Elkie Brooks 19 29 PARTY FEARS TWO - ASSOCIATES the late Billy Mackenzie commited suicide in 1997, led by missed opportunities and general depression 20 23 LOVE MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND - JETS the English Jets, rather than the American ones...Infact there were 2 American ones, but this lot were 3 brothers, who covered the Rockabilly comeback of the 80s, rather like Darts/Rocky Sharpe 21 22 MUSIC FOR CHAMELEONS - GARY NUMAN Gary Webb, who loves eating toast, and appeared with Nine Inch Nails, last Summer at the O2 22 31 LAYLA - DEREK AND THE DOMINOES the re-issued 1972 hit, a la Mr Slow Hand (Eric Clapton) 23 15 SAY HELLO WAVE GOODBYE - SOFT CELL Marc Almond & Dave Ball with top three hit, number 3! 24 19 MAID OF ORLEANS - ORCHESTRAL MANOEUVRES IN THE DARK Andy McCluskey & Paul Humphreys formed the electro sound in 1978, and this was the follow up to the song, that is sometimes confused with this one "Joan Of Arc" 25 34 DAMNED DON`T CRY - VISAGE Steve Strange, and co...without the original formed partnering of Midge Ure (who got involved while he was with the Rich Kids in 1978) 26 27 HEAD OVER HEELS - ABBA...I always say I preferred the later sound of Abba. I mean couldn`t stand the over-played Mamma Mia/Dancing Queen etc. For me, just as they were getting their sound better, they split. This was their penultimate "new" hit. "Under Attack" was brill, as their last and that one was featured on the Late Late Breakfast Show in November 1982, which they appeared with Noel Edmonds 27 18 I CAN`T GO FOR THAT - DARYL HALL/JOHN OATES from Philadelphia, and they never got a decent sized hit in Britain. This was the biggest, and unfortunately not their best 28 43 YOUR HONOUR - PLUTO SHERVINGTON a re-issue from 1976, where it was put out as follow up to "Dat". I still have my promo copy from 1976! From Jamaica, his real name being Leighton Shervington 29 26 BAAL`S HYMN - DAVID BOWIE another forgotten hit via the Bowie. He was born in Brixton you know, and was 63 in January 30 21 GOLDEN BROWN - STRANGLERS the first hit by the gang to make Radio 2 airplay, and David Hamilton`s Record Of The Week in December 1981! 31 NE AIN`T NO PLEASING YOU - CHAS N`DAVE definately the best song in the chart, for the now seperated duo and many a send-up by those Two Ronnies 32 44 DON`T LOVE ME TOO HARD - NOLANS the girls got more, and the hits got smaller, but they were great weren`t they? Good Irish Girls 33 37 TAKE MY HEART - KOOL AND THE GANG 28 years in the business...Robert Bell and the gang, had to wait 15 years for a British Top 50 entry, after just missing in 1974 34 NE HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN LOVE - LEO SAYER little Leo, had a tv series in 1982, and that pushed his career up again. Originally produced by Adam Faith, he was an Australian but English born singer/songwriter and even wrote "Giving It All Away" the Roger Daltrey hit. Unfortunately Leo, started doing oldies...a bad move, as he gave a rendition of 28 year old "Unchained Melody", and also covered a 1974 hit by Aretha Franklin...who`s title escapes me! But you know the one I mean, I`m sure! 35 40 A BUNCH OF THYME - FOSTER AND ALLEN still doing the rounds today, off to Ireland...Tony Allen & Mick Foster influenced by the likes of Jimmy Shand, and selling Dvds well today too 36 28 THEME FROM HILL STREET BLUES - MIKE POST if you bought the single "Afternoon Of The Rhino" in 1975, and turn it over...you got the theme from "The Rockford Files". On the Hill Street Blues theme, he was joined by Larry Carlton, and it was essential late night viewing on ITV, prior to being picked up by Channel 4 37 45 ARE YOU LONESOME TONIGHT (THE LAUGHING VERSION) - ELVIS PRESLEY the original topped the charts in 1961, and this 70s recording featured Elvis breaking down in laughter, when he sang "Do You Gaze At Your Bald Head & Picture You`d Hair!" Reminding me of a joke...Why Did the bald man put 2 rabbits on his head? Well, from a distance it looked like Hares (Hairs)!!!! 38 30 FOOL IF YOU THINK IT`S OVER - ELKIE BROOKS the a-fore mentioned Elaine Bookbinder...she was 65 last month, and this was her last hit until 1986 39 33 YOU`RE THE ONE FOR ME - D TRAIN a big club sound, from James Williams, who got the nickname "D Train" as a football player in High School (that`s Secondary School, folks!) Hubert Eaves III provided the instrumentation, but spent most of his time with other R + B outfit "Mtume" 40 NE IS IT A DREAM - CLASSIX NOUVEAUX Sal Solo and co, only achieved one top 20 hit in Britain (apart from his solo hit "San Damiano"), but had number ones in Poland, Portugal, Yugoslavia, Israel, & Iceland The Top Physicals this week: 01 NE GAGA/BEYONCE 02 NE CHERYL COLE (PARACHUTE) 03 01 BOYZONE 04 NE BLACK EYED PEAS (RTB) 05 02 HELPING HAITI 06 03 JEDWARD 07 05 JLS 08 10 TIMBALAND/KATY PERRY 09 04 GABRIELLA CILMI 10 07 ELLIE GOULDING Only one other new entry in the top 20, from Skepta The Top Pre-Order Singles: 01 I`M NOT MAD - ALEX GARDNER 29th Mar 02 TALK ME DOWN - WESTLIFE 29th Mar 03 THIS AIN`T A LOVE SONG - SCOUTING FOR GIRLS 29th Mar The Top Pre-Order Albums: 01 NOW 75 - VA 29th Mar 02 HEADFIRST - GOLDFRAPP 22nd Mar 03 I SPEAK BECAUSE I CAN - LAURA MARLING 22nd Mar 04 BLACK ROCK - JOE BONAMASSA 22nd Mar 05 DEFAMATION OF STRICKLAND BANKS - PLAN B 12th Apr The Top 75 lowdown comes soon, hang around... http://www.mediafire.com/file/v5zm2gomdng/1979
