Quite funnily the "live" edition got 16m viewers last night. Funny because some numbskull said it was a record breaking figure...so did they forget 1986?!!

The Almost Saturday Charts w/k ending 26th Feb 2010
In my wisdom, I usually listen to Smooth Radio during the day. Mark Goodier/Paul Coia/Lyn Parsons/Andy Peebles/Tony Blackburn etc, all ex-BBC and all playing Lemar & Boyzone. This is what Radio 2 should be about. Radio 2 failing the Government Paper the other day, and need to get their act together. The average listener on Radio 2 is over 50. So, why are they aiming at the average 35 year old, and why are Radio One aiming at the average 12 year old! And those other people Heart & Capital = Big Top 40...Total clueless of their potential listening range, and a chart that reflects static playlists.

The Almost Saturday Charts w/k ending 26th Feb 2010
Richard is not allowed to use the BMRB charts, so he sticks to the two week thing. I remember a incident where even Capital was not allowed to use the "Official Charts" as a retro thing, although the late Roger Scott did use the BBC charts of the 50s & 60s on his "Three O`Clock Thrill" spot. I think Roger half-inched them, in early 1973, when he was "Bob Baker" at Radio One.

I do know the numbers but, I can`t give them out because I did it once before...and I ended up with a whole lot of people after me! ;) But Boyzone are doing a hell of a lot better than Leona. If that is a clue.

Now, everyone is going to be asking can Florence & Dizzee over turn them by Sunday? The answer is not likely. The downloads maybe closing in, but physicals can`t so that`s the state of play. By the way Sunday at 4 http://www.thesuperstation.co.uk for the chart that`s always a little ahead and plays 40 hits in 3 hours, and between 7 & 8pm, we feature the bubblers & new releases in the "Ones To Watch". That`s the one, where I guarantee you`ll hear every song, that ever gets into the top 75.

The Big Top 40 Show Top 10 recap
Listeners to Big Top 40, may have been a bit miffed this week...because at the beginning of the programme, Lady GaGa was said to be at number 10 for the week on iTunes. That was tripe, as no way could che have been! It most certainly should of been Rihanna`s "Rude Boy". But obviously this proves what a load a nonsense that chart really is.

It went out on Tuesdays & Wednesdays, with different characters appearing each week. The constant twosome were the 2 in the basement "Dorothy" the landlady & "Clive". Other people who stayed there were the likes of John Duttine & Jan Francis. It was axed in 1977. Also featured on ITV at 12.30pm, were the likes of "Rainbow" hosted by David Cooke (the original host)/Bungle the Bear/Zippy the zipped mouthed martian. This was part of a 4 week fare with Inigo Pipkin/Mr Trimble & Hickory House followed by the likes of Rupert Bear/Larry The Lamb & A Handful Of Songs. That was all followed by the "News At One" with Leonard Parkin. The BBC childrens set at 4pm, brought us "Play School", "Jackanory", "Blue Peter" at 4.45 and the likes of "Boss Cat" at 5.15...Boss Cat being the cartoon series "Top Cat", changed by the BBC because there was a cat food called Top Cat...Other days gave us "Wacky Races & Space Kidettes", "Vision On", & "Crackerjack" with Michael Aspel/Jacqueline Clark/Peter Glaze & Don McClean. In the "Watch With Mother" spot at 1.45pm, new was "Fingerbobs" with the super-suave Rick Jones, along with Fingermouse, that wonderful Tortoise fingerpuppet called "Flash", & the bird "Gulliver". Great stuff! And with Bob Baker (alias Roger Scott) on Radio One, you couldn`t go wrong. The Top Albums in Feb 1973: The 8th LP from Elton, containing the rather fatuous "High Flying Bird". The album spending 7 weeks at number one. Carly Simon having to be content with number 2. The rather dodgy "A Clockwork Orange", which I still find hard to watch, and the over use of Russian slang "soomka" is one, and "malchik" another. The Elvis disc was in quadrophonic sound, reminding me of the days when Radio One did went quadrophonic on a Saturday afternoon, with the likes of Alan Freeman. 01 01 DON`T SHOOT ME I`M ONLY THE PIANO PLAYER - ELTON JOHN 02 02 NO SECRETS - CARLY SIMON 03 03 SLAYED - SLADE 04 04 MOVING WAYS - FOCUS 05 05 BACK TO FRONT - GILBERT O`SULLIVAN 06 07 WHO DO WE THINK WE ARE - DEEP PURPLE 07 06 FOCUS 3 - FOCUS 08 08 PILE DRIVER - STATUS QUO 09 09 GREATEST HITS - SIMON AND GARFUNKEL 10 15 ROCK ME BABY - DAVID CASSIDY 11 10 THE STRAUSS FAMILY - CYRIL ORNADEL AND THE LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA 12 13 THE SIX WIVES OF HENRY VIII - RICK WAKEMAN 13 18 BURSTING AT THE SEAMS - STRAWBS 14 11 CATCH BULL AT FOUR - CAT STEVENS 15 NE BLUEPRINT - RORY GALLAGHER 16 16 RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST - DAVID BOWIE 17 17 TALKING BOOK - STEVIE WONDER 18 NE A CLOCKWORK ORANGE - SOUNDTRACK 19 12 HEARTBREAKER - FREE 20 NE ALOHA FROM HAWAII VIA SATELLITE - ELVIS PRESLEY The Top Singles in Feb 1973: 01 01 PART OF THE UNION - STRAWBS...Hudson & Ford and co, just missing on a Radio One chart-topper 02 02 BLOCKBUSTER - SWEET...becoming one of the biggest hits for some years at that point 03 NE CUM ON FEEL THE NOIZE - SLADE...bad spelling all over the shop for Noddy and the boys 04 04 SYLVIA - FOCUS...over to Holland, and that rock sound...all instrumental of course 05 06 CINDY INCIDENTALLY - FACES...Rod Stewart taking his rock cred seriously 06 03 DO YOU WANNA TOUCH ME - GARY GLITTER...the king of glam, with the 3rd hit 07 07 WHISKY IN THE JAR - THIN LIZZY...Phil Lynott and co, with an old song even then, and the first uk hit 08 13 BABY I LOVE YOU - DAVE EDMUNDS...former Love Sculpture lead, Dave always nicked everybody elses songs 09 10 LOOKING THROUGH THE EYES OF LOVE - PARTRIDGE FAMILY...David Cassidy all over tv 10 05 DANIEL - ELTON JOHN...from the LP. The Almost Saturday Charts w/k ending 19th Feb 2010
The gang might consider it a Consumer type/newsy thing, so don`t included it...but saying that Panorama is allowed in...I will have a word, but it is garbage. A typical 7pm, BBC1 show. About time there was some proper entertainment on, at that time in contrast to ITV and Emmerdale!

The Almost Saturday Charts w/k ending 19th Feb 2010
Here come's the finish...The full lowdown on the top 75 singles plus, because as we speak Taylor Swift hovers just outside. The chart compiled thus: The Top 40 based on a mix of downloads/physical sales. The 41-75 based on nothing but downloads...All put together those lovely people down at Data Technical Research Ltd. Lots of you have email saying who are they exactly? Well, they are a team of chaps who previously worked in Market Research for the likes of MRIB & BMRB. They collate information for Dvd/TV/Music and the likes. Big ties with HMV, who are still updating a brand new download site. Download info is based on an avearage of the week's sales, for our purposes from iTunes/7Digital/Tesco/Amazon/Play.co.uk. I read another thread the other day, on the state of the Singles Chart. Well as there isn`t a Singles chart, as physicals are dead...It`s now a song chart, the only problem is the lack of the over 25s, who don`t really go for downloading. Hence the chart being a kiddish looking heap of tripe. As well, as various charity types usually put together by the other tripe known as Mr Cowell! Take the Rammstein concert I went too...Spectacular effects, and a big all round age feel. Now with a bigger age range, the songs in the chart would be great. Horrifying that we will never see Iron Maiden in the chart again. iTunes dominates the chart, and kids can`t seem to see the rip off of overpricing, as other download sites are cheaper. Don`t forget for the chart, that`s always that little bit ahead of "Edgy Yeates" and co...as well, as much better, oin Jason Scott and myself on Sunday at 4, on hhtp://www.thesuperstation.info and also look out for the new Fresh Hit 40 site coming on there too. That chart is a few hours ahead of the game because Radio One`s chart is stale by 4 on a Sunday, because the info finishes on Saturday night at 12. Ours is ahead because of the way the chart is compiled on Sales & 7.5% airplay. Following on at 7pm on Sunday we also have the new "Ones To Watch". The bubblers and newies in the half hour slot show.

Top 10 Chart excluding downloads alone
I`ve changed it to, what it actually is. As we know (from my physical charts on a Friday) it`s dead in physicals, as Joe Mcelderry & Peter Kay are still the top 2 physicals, with Marina as number 3 physical this week.

The Almost Saturday Charts w/k ending 12th Feb 2009
I did neglect to say, that there is no download info from HMV this week, because the site is under going a new look. So it`s been off-line all week. Not that their downloads are much to mention in sales though.

Well, it is of course a disney animated kids film...and we don`t include them in the chart. Just like we didn`t include "Up" this week. Overall if included "Up" would be number 2, and those "Meatballs" would be number 10, this week after peaking in the top 5, two weeks back. I would call it an adult chart, but then people get the wrong impression! ;) The Top UK Box Office Films: Courtesy of Screen International 01 NE VALENTINE`S DAY 02 01 AVATAR 03 NE THE WOLFMAN 04 02 PRINCESS AND THE FROG 05 NE PERCY JACKSON AND THE LIGHTNING THIEF 06 NE MY NAME IS KHAN 07 04 INVICTUS 08 NE A SINGLE MAN 09 08 ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS II 10 03 ASTRO BOY The Top TV Programmes: Only the Top episodes of Soaps are noted the rest aren`t! 01 01 CORONATION STREET 11.40 02 02 EASTENDERS 10.77 03 03 EMMERDALE 8.90 04 04 DANCING ON ICE 8.80 05 06 WILD AT HEART 8.09 06 NE HELPING HAITI 7.37 07 05 HARRY HILL`S TV BURP 7.35 08 07 LARK RISE TO CANDLEFORD 6.98 09 10 ANTIQUES ROADSHOW 6.93 10 11 SILENT WITNESS 6.85 11 09 CASUALTY 6.53 12 12 IN IT TO WIN IT 6.48 13 13 COUNTRYFILE 6.35 14 RE LAW AND ORDER UK 6.06 15 15 HUSTLE 5.95 16 RE RUGBY 5.92 17 08 HOLBY 5.92 18 RE FA CUP SOCCER 5.65 19 16 ONE SHOW S.58 20 14 TAKE ME OUT 5.42 21 19 MR AND MRS 5.29 22 21 BBC NEWS/SPORT/WEATHER SATURDAY 5.26 23 18 SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE 5.21 24 22 6 O`CLOCK NEWS 5.05 25 20 QI 4.67 26 RE 10 O`CLOCK NEWS 4.63 27 RE YOU`VE BEEN FRAMED 4.62 28 23 7 AGES OF BRITAIN 4.61 29 RE ITV WEEKEND NEWS SUNDAY 4.59 30 24 THE BILL 4.13 The Top Albums: Based on rotas of Sales (Thurs to Weds) with adjusted figures for new entries 01 NE GLEE VOL. 1 - VARIOUS 02 06 FAME MONSTER/FAME - LADY GAGA 03 02 ELEMENT OF FREEDOM - ALICIA KEYS 04 08 LUNGS - FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE 05 01 FOREVER VIENNA - ANDRE RIEU 06 05 SUNNY SIDE UP - PAOLO NUTINI 07 NE OCEAN EYES - OWL CITY 08 14 E.N.D. - BLACK EYED PEAS 09 04 SOLDIER OF LOVE - SADE 10 NE SCRATCH MY BACK - PETER GABRIEL 11 25 BRIT AWARDS 2010 - VARIOUS 12 09 CRAZY LOVE - MICHAEL BUBLE 13 12 TURN IT UP - PIXIE LOTT 14 07 R + B LOVE SONGS - VARIOUS 15 03 HELIGOLAND - MASSIVE ATTACK 16 10 ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS - VARIOUS 17 18 GREATEST HITS - JOURNEY 18 16 SIGH NO MORE - MUMFORD AND SONS 19 19 I AM SASHA FIERCE - BEYONCE 20 NE NOW 00s - VARIOUS 21 38 REALITY KILLED THE VIDEO STAR - ROBBIE WILLIAMS 22 17 ONLY REVOLUTIONS - BIFFY CLYRO 23 NE PUSH IT - VARIOUS 24 30 BLUEPRINT III - JAY Z 25 20 VERY BEST OF - FLEETWOOD MAC 26 11 UNCONDITIONAL THE LOVE SONGS - PETER ANDRE 27 31 JLS - JLS 28 32 IT`S NOT ME IT`S YOU - LILY ALLEN 29 24 FUNKY HOUSE CLASSICS - VARIOUS 30 39 ONLY BY THE NIGHT - KINGS OF LEON Time for the Flashback charts to February 1985: Charts compiled by MRIB The Top TV, back then 01 CORONATION STREET (MON) 18.90...Audrey Potter moves into the Street, later marrying Alf Roberts, of course 02 LAST OF THE SUMMER WINE 18.80...The Mysterious Feet Of Nora Batty. The amount of money, poured into Eastenders was enormous. Terry Wogan got that thrice weekly show, that carried on for 7 years with hardly any viewers. Unfortunately Michael Grade was nothing like his dad, Lew. So, bad was 1986 that he gave us 10 year old ITV shows from the likes of "The Muppet Show". A slot that would definately been set for Dr Who. Eastenders had less that 8 million viewers, at the start, and then we were conned by a Sunday repeat (that was included in the ratings, with the original weekday episode). Fooling people, that it was getting more viewers than Coronation Street. It hardly ever did. Some nutcase reckoned that during 1986, it had 30 million viewers! No way did it get that for a single showing. When the BBC, originally commisioned Soaps, they wouldn`t show them all year round. Previously "Angels" had been an early evening venture of BBC Soap. That started out in a 13 part, 50 minute series in 1975. It then disappeared, to return as a twice weekly venture from 1978. Again not shown all year round. Strange enough, half the cast of "Angels" (which followed the trials & tribulations of nurses) featured in "Eastenders" at some point. Also very strange that "Walford" sounds a bit like "Weatherfield". The Top Albums in Feb 1985: With Phil Collins getting in, a week before Tears For Fears had their "Songs From The Big Chair" enter. On this occasion, he picked Prince "Let`s Go Crazy", Eddie And The Soul Band "Shaft" & Madonna "Material Girl". He got 3 out of 3. Meanwhile on Independant Radio in Feb 1985, they were heavily playing "Tainted Love" & Soft Cell, to which this managed to re-enter the chart at 33.
