  1. Ironic to say "not a classic hit" when its actually sampling one! Bit of a cheap shot but I like what they've done with it. Surely a no1

That sounds like cheesy fake pr spin and even more doubtful than bbc! Source?

Well it said (amusingly) on bbc news that was why tt moved it, which obv they shouldn't say if not true in case they get into trouble. Surprised if tt didn't think they'd beat jls tbh. I agree tt may hold 2nd week, and whether or not u factor westlife in they are releasing and I've said they'll be 3rd so clearly I don't see them taking it either

Didn't take that move theirs a week forward to avoid jls? Anyhoo, over 300k for tt (unless there's some weird robbie backlash though it'll probs go the other way). Jls over 200k the following week, neck and neck with TT. Westlife? Prob 100k ish, playing 3rd fiddle and dropping quicker What an xfactor week that'll be too, them all trying to out do each other!
  5. Shame so many people are having difficulty getting ahold of it this week. Not a great sign. I thought of ordering it but decided I might not want to wait depending how long it took. My local waterstones is laughably small and morstly given over to kids and coffee now but amazingly had a few copies of the new and old! Thanks for your thoughts on my thoughts suede!

Angels was on 1,045,000 as of April(?) this year according to my lovely Virgin chart book (OCC update may have been higher/more recent can't remember)
  7. hey i dropped into waterstones today and bought a copy. They had quite a few prominently stacked in their (small) music section. The guy said "excellent book" when i took it to the counter and asked if it was for me! Perhaps he is a closet chartwatcher! My (jumbled) thoughts: Its good it tells you the cut-off date for the charts this time around, even if it is a stupid random date - end of year helps more with stats though i appreciate the extra 15 weeks (ish) data vs Guinness. Lots of interesting lists - i preferred guinness who put these all at the end but at least they're indexed at the front of the book for easy access Sales date cut off i'm assuming is roughly the same: Bleeding Love Sales are listed as 990k (it seems to be to the nearest 5k thoughout as is the OCC convention), and I Gotta Feeling does not make it on the million sellers list for example. Re-entries and reissues are listed as separate chart entries which is a bit confusing when counting weeks and runs. e.g. Take That's Rule the World says 66 weeks on 1st entry but is listed a few below with a lower peak and 6 weeks (luckily in the totals lists they've summed these). Don't even get me started on the Leona Better In Time/Footprints in the sand fiasco! (although this is partly the OCC's fault too). They don't have any consecutive weeks/hits records listed though some are mentioned in the artist text. However, they are taking a very basic (and perhaps draconian) approach to this. For example, Oasis are listed as having 18 consecutive top10s rather than 22 as Wibbling Rivalry is listed under Oasis (although is listed as Oas*s to the side of the entry), so clearly they are counting this as breaking the run. Also Girls Aloud are listed as having 17 consecutive top10s - a female band record. (Broken by St Trinians). Further Madonna is listed as having 35 consecutive top 10s rather than the usual 34 - Guinness always considered holiday's subsequent no2 peak a re-entry as the catalogue number was unchanged but as Virgin are listing re-entries and reissues separately by date and not making any distinction between this gives her 35. This approach is sometimes confusing as e.g. Elvis is listed as 21 no1s (without mentioning 3 of these are reissues) but Michael Jackson is given a total of 85 top 40s (which includes his 2007 reissues but not all his 2009 posthumous download re-entries - i suppose downloads have the disadvantage of never recounting as they cannot be "reissued" - again no distinction is made in the text between reentry and reissue - i merely know this from memory). Some GaGa weirdness - her Just Dance re-entry credits Colby O'Donis and Akon but the original entry does not. Also she is credited on "Make her Say", by Kid Cudi, featuring Kanye West, Common, and Lady GaGa. I'm sure i remember seeing this on acharts 1 week but its not credited to her on polyhex that i could find, although it lists her Wale and Beyonce collaborations so i had decided she must be uncredited. Anyway, since she officially is, this increases her chart weeks in 2009 by 2, giving a total of 158 weeks as the new record (not the previously thought 156) - further to that the book mentions Oasis as setting a record for most top75 weeks in '96 with 134 but does not mention in her or their entry this has been bested. There is no "most weeks in a calendar year" record section so this may just be an oversight on their part. Catalogue download sales from anything pre-download era is a cool list! The book's cover design is much more like the old school guinness books, though the inside is still the more minimal virgin layout. Sure lots of other things occurred to me which i forgotten and may add but overall great fun if you follow the charts and well worth the money! The main problem with this is these are the "official" books but so were the Guinness ones and they've moved the goalposts on some records - less arguing ensue! and anyone else feel free to point out mistakes/oddities - sure we could batch them and email for next edition!
  8. Thanks for the schedules sorry its all over soon. Really great lists though
  9. Wow. Rihanna closing on cheryl. Her sales may be even higher than I thought
  10. Er, greenock? I always quite liked that shop, but with tesco 2 mins away and the price diff that's understandable. Its quite lucky as lots of towns have nowhere which sells music. My home town has no hmv and woolies closed and whsmith just stopped selling cds so now its a walk down to asda on the fringe of the town centre. And whsmith prices were every bit as bad as rhythmic. It last less defence as its still a big chain but has limited purchase power compared to tesco. Glad the dispute resolved but typical guerulla tactics from tesco holding everyone to ransom
  11. I don't like the idea of this.. sure it'll sound good but it makes me a little sad Don't even know where to start with this one..

Think this was posted elsewhere already? Sure the threads could easily be merged if so :)

oh jark! be-have! She does sound oddly high (which is in danger of making her shrill) I really like this. hooked me on 1st listen, the video is fun and its a nice step away from her previous without totally alienating people who liked the 1st album. I don't own rockferry, though i did quite like mercy (had it not been raped by radio). This is probably most similar to Rain on Your Parade which makes sense. The bond song that never was, i thought it was pretty good but i get the impression on here that my opinions on Duffy are the opposite to her "fans" Busy busy time of year but top10 should be achievable, though i think no1 is a very slim possibility
  14. Mikey mentioned in the sales thread this week that it was on 999.5k. His source was on haven forum. Based on what it was selling earlier in the year when IGF passed the mil I would've expected it to be a bit less, and I can't specifically think of anything recent which would've given leona a boost (unless she's been on XF? I note she is on the front of the XF mag so I suppose that's something). Crazy was neck and neck with it and is very close though so it must be over 990k and could be that close by now Hopefully they'll tell us when it passes the mil. And btw they didn't mention PF immediately it didn't pass this week, probably 1-2 ago so I think they've just taken the chance to mention both it and SoF now one of the artists has something new out so is worth mentioning. I think both are equal achievements though SoF gets more ongoing airplay and took longer ;-p
  15. Kylie was closer to 11k and 7k respectively. Xf physicals are normally huge though, so I think the normal rules don't apply. I can see joe is stocked in my local hmv who don't noramlly stock any singles now annoyingly, and I guess some of the supermarkets may too. Basically I think he'll have big physicals, but since they can't even get an excellent kylie single top10 with 3 formats now, I don't know if they can land joe no1 despite the power of xf
  16. Anyway a minor gripe. The changes they've made sound far more positive, looking forward to it :D
  17. Well the last book was up to 8th march or something weird and business quarters don't end in the middle of the month. Also since when have the charts been looked at in "business quarters"? I take your point but if that's always the cutoff its not really extra months considering subsequent books will only contain 2 years extra data. Also, its not that good for comparisons of artists or runs, or weeks on in a certain year to work out for example when the cutoff date is completely arbitrary and makes no logical sense. I assume it was chosen as the last date info could be input before everything had to be finalised and sent to the publishers. Personally id rather just have end 2009 and know where I stood
  18. Usher closing on electronic wuss :D I thought Katy would pass him b4 BoB but looks like she won't even pass haiti by then. Shame as she had one of the strongest starts and is holding up fairly well. She seems to have missed the midlevel sales in the middle on the way somehow. Yolanda showing some strength too. I think it will become a bit of a classic, pulled out for sports montages etc in years to come. I wonder if xfactor or their alum can crack the top 5- emana slowing down a lot now too though 800k by year end not out of the question surely In albums I love that rihanna is sitting in this gap all by herself with ages with little prospect of passing or being passed anytime soon. Also yay for the fame, over 900k next week and 1mil by year end again please! (A 4th single would be nice to that end)
  19. Random dates again then. Thanks zeus
  20. Sounds better this time. I was glad to have an updated book last time but it was a bit souless with nothing but the a-z Is the cut off end of 2009 in terms of sales/weeks or are they doing that weird march thing again even though the book itself didn't make the date clear!
  21. Any estimate of how many physicals she's actually shifted this week? Hopefully we'll get the breakdown and she'll remain buoyant. That formula should be at least what she'll get id hope as she'll surely shift more than rumer or anyone else these days D

Are these sales pretty confirmed/accurate then? Very impressed with some of them. Did work really end up over 100k? Nice to see if this is love make it too, oft underrated and forgotten imho. I expect headlines to double wordshaker's figure anyway although its reappearance in a bargain bin near you recently should give it a wee lift Ps love the colour coding that's very smart :D
  23. Well it was said bleeding love was on 989k selling 300 per week a couple of months and crazy on about 985 selling 400 a week. Also poker face is on around 996k now selling 1-2k a week I think (from vc figures) so id think they would all be b4 mysterious girl if its only on 950k...

Hey vc, any chance you'd have ytd sales for this time last year (vs this year)? Nice2c how they compare
