Its so hard to say if TV would've made the difference, and then you'd need to reduce sales for the tour boost etc etc. Its maybe just the way it was gonna go based on public tastes/the song. Maybe if you updated your banner from the loving kind to untouchable the extra promo would've done it Jay! :rofl:

all this is true, but if 7D erroneously transfer the data to the OCC including these downloads with all other sales, they may count anyway. They may not have a mechanism for separating them, or may not be bothering. Unless OCC can somehow spot it, they could count (even though technically they shouldn't for chart purposes)

Well done on the woolworths bargain it was great this xmas! Thanks for the Queen info Zeus. It seems kind of amazing but assumably it had been sitting just outside on some years or something so there was a lot of missing sales or something. Just think how many copies of GH1 there actually are in the UK, yet i don't have one!

How can the 7" have sold out on pre-order?! Has anyone actually got it? Are the stores selling it Matt? Bought the CD and Bimbo edit already, will buy the others when i get home to my iTunes :P

So GH1 has apparently sold 5.5mil or something NOT including sales of the platinum collection?! That doesn't add up surely, they haven't been combined? What about the "GH1&2" set, were they halved or added to sales of the solus albums?

My 7" order has been cancelled :o apparently they've ran out! are they selling it in HMV branches too or anywhere else? anyone else not preordered had trouble?

Re: the live vs. albums being an earner, it was in the papers over here in the last couple of years that artists now make more from shows and merchandise than music sales, as albums are falling off but the demand for live shows is ever increasing, more consumers want that experience. Many of the artists are moving to that as they get a far bigger cut of the profits. Madonna is perfect example. Her tours earn her record breaking amounts, but when her last album only went 1x platinum most places it hasn't made her half as much for sure. Also there's that new artists coalition or whatever with Robbie and Annie Lennox etc in it as artists themselves are getting fed up with this sit and are trying to take their profits back :wacko:

Apparently they're the no2 physical of the week behind morrissey as well, and since he prob won't trouble the top10 due to low downloads this should help pull them ahead of everyone else. Ordered my 7" on HMV, but says "back in stock in 7 days" so i'm hoping it counts this week :S also do amazon track downloads count for the chart now. Bought Bimbo there as cheaper than 7Digital so hoping so

Still top 200 last few weeks, so i'd wager a few 1000 anyway. The best way to keep this list anything like up to date would be to add accurate estimates to the existing figures based on the top200 each week (like others do for the YTD singles/albums thread) because the way this is, only the favourites/odd MW figure for new stuff ever gets updated which is kind of a positive bias. Interesting read though, i realise that would require good knowledge of sales predictions and a lot of time :wacko:

i think the physical's their best hope tbh but hopefully they build up some download/airplay momentum towards it

I'm old school. Without you i'm nothing all the way! Fond of Black MArket music too, but Without you is superior. Debut is good, bit more urgent, but sleeping with ghosts put me off and i lost interest. Loving Battle for the Sun now, and the press comment that the new one is more like Without You.. has me very excited! :w00t:
