Female Solo Artists Who Have Debut No.1 Singles & Albums
There's an argument here that Cheryl Kelly Beyonce shouldnt be on here at all as their debut material was as part of a band. By the time they went solo they had a massively inflated profile vs any normal debut artist so its hardly a level playing field. Hard feat to master though. Hasn't anyone from the 80s or earlier done this? Seems so unlikely there wouldn't be one or 2...

UK Singles
Hey just to say the jump figure on front page needs updating (was 250k in Nov 13 countdown as posted above by outstandingmike) Nice list haven't looked at in ages, wonder how much higher they'd have been in another era - could see the sats overtake them someday which in terms of prominence and cultural impact doesnt seem quite right!

Rihanna Vs Madonna
Interesting to see Rihanna pass even Madonna's single sales (about 18mil now?) on what was a relatively quiet year (for her!). I noted a while back her singles chart weeks were surpassing madge and I think are now well ahead also. It is a difficult comparison; when Madonna started she was releasing singles every couple of months (not unlike Rihanna you say?) however the release of one single would see copies of the previous dwindle in the shops/be deleted and by the time the next single again was out you definitely weren't finding the first one many places at all. Potentially people would have continued buying these songs and continued to swell her sales, so instead of the 2-3 month chart run average of madge you could have the 6 month+ Rihanna has for a large number of her singles as 4 or 5 clutter up the bottom end of the chart simultaneously. In addition to that is the constant collabs - this is something Madge never really did and even lately its been the odd record and not at the same time as her other solo songs. Rihanna has so many features as the second artist while she has her own stuff out. This is the way of the charts now though; artists like pitbull, flo rida, calvin harris etc accumulate masses of chart weeks even if the contribution is so small you couldn't pick them out of the song (like JT's featuring credit on Rehab!). If we removed Rihanna's (2nd artist) collab sales (as I've seen some of these lists do) I'd think she's still a fair bit behind Madge. In terms of revenue and inflation adjusting I'm sure Madge is still way ahead. Also in terms of Cultural impact, longevity, ticket sales and revenue, and massively ahead on album sales but that could change in the future. Madonna has been so consistent and changed the game, but Rihanna's achievements in such a short space are nothing short of breathtaking; she hasn't changed the rules, she's playing a whole different game IMHO.

CD Packaging
Yes the "deluxe jewel box" all the way! Much easier to get booklets out and if the corners got (inevitably) smashed it didn't break the hinges. Miss them (I  2007) These days I like when the CD is the deluxe edition and has extra tracks. They cost more mostly so this makes sense I hate when there are bonus digital only tracks...

Happy vs. Blurred Lines
see what you did there Bre? very drole! not sure it'll outsell BL but I hope Adele overtakes it again. any chance of a from-release VC sales graph to compare?!

Best Selling Girl Group Singles & Albums (UK)
Actually about 10 months old! Though I'm sure more up to date than last known in some cases. The front list probably could do with a wee update. E.g. Whole Again is now a million seller

Official Biggest Collaborations of 21st Century.
Nice to see umbrella update. Was it ahead of What's my name again now then? Shame they don't put these bloody lists on OCC website too. All these sales floating around that you miss if you don't watch multiple TV channels 24/7...

Note the too lost in you update from music TV countdown. No28, 190k. Seems quite a big increase in the last few years? Was on 19/1/14 I believe (from UK chart thread)

Top 100 Best Selling Albums of the Decade
I think Buble will overtake Sande and even TT by decade end probably with Xmas but I think Adele is beyond reach to say the least! Its sad but I can hardly see a new album topping 2mil any time soon. With decreasing sales year on year and few artists who can be relied on to shift that much its going to become unusual. Maybe someone like Ed Sheeran will trickle there if his next Album's a hit. Even 1D who are a bona fide phenomenon are only scraping 1mil with one album so far. Maybe Take That have a shot with their next album as their last 4 (!) Have managed it but I think its uphill struggle even for them with an increasing tendency to regress toward the mean

Top 100 Best Selling Albums of the Decade
Great consistency from pink again, impressive. I think the truth about love will go slow and steady this year still and her GH will trickle sell as it has continued to do. Great olly has outsold 1D album for album (in sales order), shows how big he is here

Top 100 Best Selling Albums of the Decade
Wonder how many of this outer 20 will make it til the end of the decade, or even next year. Not many I'd guess. Stereophonics GH is a genuine surprise and I'd forgotten JLS sold quite so much - probably more than the sales of all their other albums combined! 1D have obv been much more consistent impressively but have yet to come close to JLS total with any of their albums. Time will tell... I own 3 albums so far, not that representative

Do you still buy CD albums?
Not too surprising that many buzzjackers are CD stalwarts though I doubt we're a representative slice of the music buying public. Interesting the small trends of some ppl buying more vinyl and 'Now' albums than before - ties in well with the sales growth in both vinyl and compilations overall. Still buy CD almost always if available but bought much less this year until Q4 as it felt there was just nothing out. Downloaded quite a few albums in the digital "sales" after Xmas £1.99 for an album and the convenience of having it straight on my phone was too tempting. Also couldn't be assed with the queues in HMV but may end up buying physical of the downloaded albums I like when it quietens down. I mostly use my CDs in the car too as opposed to my digital stuff which I use all over the house. It is just more convenient and it can be a pain ripping all your CDs. I like the better quality of CDs and its nicer to have a physical product and also I think actually owning it as I think the odd track has disappeared from my digital services or won't always download again easily (this is rare though)

Will One Direction beat Emeli Sande to best selling album
I think it'll be close - 70-90k for 1D and 10-15k for Emeli? Maybe they'll do it. On one hand be good to see a new album at the top and they are the biggest thing around at the moment. On the other hand not a fan. Though Emeli has basically benefitted by being rammed down our throats like she was the only artist in existence for around 18 months of her campaign so I don't love her either. Robbie last minute rush FTW!

Will One Direction beat Emeli Sande to best selling album
So what do people think? Less than 24 hours for them to cross the line - with no mids this week it'll be a tough call... I think Emeli will scrape it!

Christmas Million Sellers
Roughly 100 copies a week then? That's quite encouraging! And not a traditional Xmas song as such. Most of the traditional more popular others seem to be adding about 50k a year fairly consistently so bound to be a few which pass it over the next few years

All I Want For Christmas Is… A Million Seller!
Nice wee list and hooray! List should probably go In Its only wee thread in the sales vault? Hopefully we get annual updates ;-)

When will Radio 1 count down the year-end chart?
Hopefully the dates line up. I'm sure there's years they did it prior to the last week of sales and then the official list changed which is a bit misleading! A nice whole day countdown e.g. the 150 would be cool as a chart fan of course!

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 8th December 2013
I wonder could Leona make no1? She is pulling ahead a fair bit on iTunes (which is 48hour rolling is it?) And was very close to avicii's sales on weds mids. Lily has fallen so far I don't know if she'll hold it, and Leona was apparently no1 on other download sites? I think it's gonna be close with the 3. Started the week hoping it was Lily but now it'd be nice to see Leona - a surprise to say the least given the last couple of years of her career and a festive hit would be nice before XF destroys all this week's challengers

Mutya Keisha Siobhan UK TOUR
Noted. Your welcome. I was posting it as I thought people may be interested but I didn't know all the official names as they didn't say on the night. Maybe if you had bothered typing it in the first place rather than waiting to correct someone else I wouldn't have had to bother but thanks for pointing out my errors and what is "proper". Same view Slick, esp surreal to see Siobhan singing these, but totally wonderful  Really not keen on Laying Down in Swimming Pools though, prob my least favourite of the night (if i'm thinking of the right song)

Chart Runs, Sales & iTunes Watch —
pleasantly surprised at lovegame's cert, and the fact alejandro has made gold. Also Judas over 300k now! Shouldn't be too long for platinum Edge of Glory and Paparazzi hopefully, and surprised Marry the Night hasn't cracked Silver though surely will scrape it soon. Do what you want should manage silver too (eligible sales?) though not sure You and I will be getting a disc anytime soon. Shame. The Born This Way campaign seemed to go really limp at the end ;-(
