  1. wow! maybe releasing after the premiere would be a good tactic for other bands when there's more buzz. I hope its not just a fanbase buy which will crash next week. Still need to wait til June for my physical  lets hope it gets some airplay so they'll still be people downloading that week too
  2. surely they'll be bigging it up on tour as its the current single. It has a lot going for it, just so difficult to have all singles from an album go top10 now
  3. loving this  and you're right it'd probably work!
  4. It will soon though, selling about 1000 a week still and that figure is at least a couple of weeks old :) yay!

I don't think you've quite understood my points but i prob didn't explain as well as i should :) I actually don't see v2 as a "deluxe", rather a reissue, what i meant was releasing a full deluxe down the line might not sell enough to make back the money developing and promoting it would cost. While the album rose a number of places following v2's release, the cost of all the v1's which now can't be sold but the record company paid to produce must be discounted from any profit, and its impossible to know who would've/wouldn't have bought the album when it did/didn't contain JCGE, so its a gamble by the label, but i think it'll work out ok. My point relating to comic relief is that people who want JCGE can now buy the album for it and CR won't get a cut. Although band's current albums will benefit from the +ve PR of a charity release, they often don't contain that particular song (e.g. Walk this Way last comic relief doesn't appear on any GA/Sugababes album even though it probably was good publicity for both, people still had to give money to CR if they wanted the song). Its not a big deal, just seems a bit cynical on behalf of the record company to profit from a song supposedly for charity

I'm sure it will either way, i just want them to have it all :P
  7. quite right thanks for that! Digispy stated its platinum but it hasn't been certified yet. It'll get there though (shipments and sales)
  8. Prob already has by Tues i'd wager but obviously we won't know til the weekly sales come in. Amazing though isn't it! Our Xmas deluxe edition should see it get 3xplatinum i'd say :P
  9. Is she staying with Parlo then? Was all that crap about her being unhappy last year just bull?
  10. The only way is Up! they are both similar though i can see why they were the top2. I don't see what the gripe about the album version of Up is- other than going on a bit longer at the end it sounds the same as the Radio Edit to me. Wideboys mix is equally good to the original, bit faster just depends what mood you're in really :)
  11. Golden Rules

This kind of bugged me at first. Why bother chucking a crap charity cover on your album, people buy it for the novelty, or because their a fan but it doesn't really belong on chasing lights IMO. I think with the moderate size of their fanbase (by album sales) and the fact they are such a new band a deluxe would've been a waste of money and wouldn't have returned well on the investment. Better to move onto the next album later this year, and capitalise on the momentum they've built. Their album has benefitted from every single release, and i think releasing is keeping them in the public eye and lots of people are tipping over the point of buying the album as they realise they are liking more and more of their songs. So as evidenced by the jump in the album chart the week of rerelease i actually think this was a good move from a sales perspective now. However, i think coming only a fortnight about after JCGE and the fact the album does not raise money for charity like the single its actually a bit $h!tty for Comic Relief as it could be doing them out of money when people can now simply opt for the album instead of buying the single/both. I'm also curious about v1 copies. I haven't seen a single one since the v2 release and Matt mentioned they sent all the old copies back when the new ones arrived, assumably getting a replacement/refund from the record company/distributor, so the record company could have lost a fair bit in copies shipped but not sold of v1. But for a soft reissue like this (same cover, not advertised as new etc) it could be misleading and annoy people to find the single they've seen advertised isn't on theirs though shops could've marked them and just sold them cheap instead?

I want #1 for work to continue their trend of outpeaking themselves, which would see chasing lights go platinum following their successful tour, what an end to a first campaign! I love they're giving us a new B-side, i wish more bands did this every time :)
  14. I get the BPI cert list every week and Chasing lights still isn't in it. Its def cert Gold though, they probably just made a mistake. No doubt it'll have sold platinum by year end though (probably by end of the tour)
  15. Agreed Jark, that'd be my single order, and i think the momentum would've allowed a 4th in June to coincide with the tour which would have probably been MLIP. NGDA and CTS don't sound alike what a crock, even though they are both Xeno (and all his stuff sounds kind of similar i guess). Denial was a nice single choice i think, but suffered from the loss of momentum from change. The fact it sold basically the same and was the 3rd single released at a much lower sales period kind of proves it, and it actually sold well comparing to their other 3rds (whereas Change was poorer to their seconds). I do have a soft spot for Surprise (Goodbye), its certainly the closest also ran for a single IMO, but then Cathy songs are always fab :D Anyhoo, NCD thread! It did amazing leaping 83-23 IMO, we all thought it had missed top40 that sunday as every time the next song wasn't it on the chart show we were thinking "can't have got that high, must've missed" etc

Double update again. AYN rebounded to 69 last week, and rises a further place to 68 this week  its unstopable! No others
  18. I have TSOGA on 1040k, TU on 483k and OOC on 698k with reasonable certainty now :)
  19. how does this compare to the top40 80s thread just started? Do they need a merge perhaps?

any sales figures/estimates? Perhaps they are different because the OCC one is sales to date for singles released in the 80s, rather than Gallup's which would've just been sales made in the 80s? cheers, interesting as always zeus :)

Thanks Dave, and Thanks vidC, i like that your list is longer (not that size matters :P), and your estimates generally more optimistic!
  22. I will do indeed! Err, was i right about the preorder thing?
  23. No39 in the midweeks. Hopefully a chart show debut this week then :) Prob already be in Hit40UK as their airplay is so good which has far more listeners anyway :D
  24. Well that clears it up!
  25. More channels, the internet, streaming/catch up services, DVD is cheap and high quality. Also people playing games etc on their TV instead. Its all effected it take your pick really. No longer just 5 channels to choose from! (or 3 in those days! :o)
