  1. "With 15 top ten singles and 6 studio albums already on their impressive CV, Sugababes are at work on their next, career-defining record. Why not join us in the discussion of Britain's most-successful group this century?" Loving this Jark. Suitably epic (my word of the day :P)
  2. Well, a week after first listening to it or something. WOW! :o 1st time i thought, "pretty good, epic, nearly as epic as 2Hearts", second time i'm like "prob as good/little better" every time since i'm like "2 what?" Its Amazing! Sounds kinda AWDF era somehow, yet still quite Taller as its a bit more mature. Is this what 3's album tracks will be like on re-listening? I'd imagine and if so very excited! Of the "Amelle mixes", i prefer her Gotta be You, Prefer Mutya's Follow me Home, and Red Dress is a draw (very similar) Currently moved onto Overloaded :)
  3. Tell me about Siobhan's album too, i've not heard her solo stuff :) Sunday Rain is good, and Sound of Goodbye is one of the stronger ballads (though there are many)
  4. Well! Many thoughts on this one! Circus shifting 6 figures is quite encouraging and it continues to chart well. It has basically been in the chart constantly since the album's release so it would have been difficult for it to break the top10 as sales have been so consistently good. I mean she's seen songs peak higher which have sold less than Circus has already. I expected it to fall out the week or 2 after the album's release and then to have returned nearer release but it never really left, getting constant (though not really high) airplay. "Amy" won't have video kicking around forever and the constant selling like circus did i don't think, though its every bit as good if not better so i am hopeful with more concentrated sales it'll end up top10, but i doubt it'll manage top5/3/1. In terms of the album, after a bit of a drop at the start, its slide has been very slow and it has stayed top75 the whole time (unlike Blackout). Its already certified platinum, and the reason Circus didn't send it back into the top20 is because its been a slow burner so have produced more sustained album sales rather than peaked ones (e.g. Break the Ice despite being a relatively minor hit propelled Blackout back into the top20, but it quickly fell again). Amy will probably see it properly rise i think. For a huge comeback, i guess the sales are a bit low overall, though Womanizer's are very encouraging. If she'd find the time to do promo here after launch e.g. for Circus (single) i think sales would be stronger. Also Brit, could we have a B-side or even a radio edit on the physical at least? We know songs from the Circus sessions were actually recorded that aren't available (legally) anywhere in the UK. Giving people something new or even a cracking remix rather than a $h!tty instrumental may help improve sales! (and each download remix=1 sale so good way to build 'em up!)
  5. "to the dude above - i don't think Ms Thang is to blame at all. they have still enjoyed success since she joined the group all those years ago. i think this era bombed because of its lead single (good song, just not single material), artwork is trash, album title is stupid and as i understand, this album was took in a different direction than their previous ones. they need to find their niche and stick to it." Loving this quote OffDaEndz (sic). You have very succinct and distinctive prose, it kinda cuts through the crap you know? (PS i agree, the whole project smacked to me of low budget which i don't get with the success of Change before it; and don't worry there's no danger of you finding C&S "over-produced" IMHO) C&S is often decribed as One Touch-like, i'd say there's similarities but its certainly not the same. Its pretty cheap all over now though, i'd say its worth it if you have the money, good album but not commercial enough. Qualitatively i'd need to say GA fans are more diehard and would vote in their droves for something like this, but the promise is also one of their best selling songs so not surprising people would therefore vote for it. Popularity is fleeting and difficult to measure. At this moment? More popular than the babes for sure, if you go by sales, airplay or the media but that's sort of a self fulfilling prophecy. But if you asked everyone is the UK if they liked Sugababes, and if they liked GA for example, you might find overall more people liked the babes but didn't connect to their recent material. Its all a moot point really, its so perception based, and fan perception is inherently warped
  6. its all personal taste, but the AF ones are usually much worse than that one which is pretty decent :) Maybe when there's new promo shots for next album or something. Changing the text underneath would be good though, that often gets quite out of date e.g. "Already with 23 hits in the UK, the babes are currently working on their 7th studio album, due later this year. Come in and discuss your hopes for their future material, and their achievements to date" Maybe something like that

So... C&S crashes from 83-134 this week, and i believe its still cheap lots of places (though maybe not everywhere any more). On bright side, overloaded re-enters at 182 again :) Nothing else this week

And they're out! NCD fell 158-OUT and Girls 199-OUT this week. They currently have no songs top200. This era is well and truly (prematurely) over  27/02/09- Nothing top200 this week either

So, for our weekly update! AYN climbed 95-71 this week, nothing else top100 e.g. no C&S

Seriously doubt it, despite the temporary brits boost its way off. someone like Gaga is far further ahead (and i don't see her getting near that). Bleeding Love may well be our next million seller as its still steadily selling at the lower reaches
  11. Yes a May release has less PR potential, but wtf would they do a deluxe then? FAR too early, 3rd single won't long be out off the current edition. No, if we get a deluxe i'm sure it'll be a Q4 XF/pre-Xmas album when they can release a brand new song to big it up and sell to the Xmas market all over again, especially if we aren't getting a new studio album this year
  12. You know, i remember a few months ago mentioning in one of the threads that i'd read the new song kind of ruined the end of the album by not letting the epic 2hearts finish it, and a number of posts came back saying "NOOOO! NOW YOU'RE GONE BEST SONG EVA!" So i'm very excited to hear it! From driving over the last few days, i've only got up to track 12, so the next time i head out somewhere, i'm going to here a brand new babes song  So excited, my review will follow!
  13. This is great news, and with all the talk of solo projects and splits its gives a bit of stability to the band's image. I was assuming it would be a 2 studio and 1 GH type deal, as they will have done 4 studio albums since GH1 if that is the case (though possibly not more singles than GH1 as bands in general are releasing less singles from albums unless you're female and Barbadian (e.g. TU only had 3), and there is a good chance by then they will want to pursue other interests or wind things down. They've already lasted longer than most Girl Groups manage! But yes, a 10th anniversary GH as a swansong with a huge new single would be a great way to end things. As mentioned above though, it could still all go to the wall before this as things as never guaranteed but its an encouraging sign. SHOCKED they are actually taking a year off for once! No new album for '09! Apalling! With the recent "Deluxe" album trend and the success of OOC, combined with the fact they will have masses of exposure in Q4 (the most lucrative sales period) again with Cheryl on X-Factor, OOC deluxe looks likely. But they already sort of did that this Xmas with releasing the 2disc version a month after the standard and just in time for Xmas. It bugs me when bands milk it so bad with three versions of an album, but at least if this one has some new content, it might be worth it. I'm thinking slap She and Memory of You on there with another couple of new songs (say 15/16 tracks seems right) and have one of the new ones as a lead single, or Memory of you. If it goes down well they could even do a 2nd Deluxe single. This should see them achieve triple platinum status :D
  14. Meh. I know quite a few people like it but i find Rivers boring, not sure if it'll make a good single. Ok, but not the best if this is correct, i agree with the "radio friendly (dull)" comment above. I so thought the Love is the Key remix for the GA show was easing us into what would become the single mix, and it sounded good so we'll wait and see as i still think its their best choice :)

  16. Well my spreadsheet's bigger than your spreadsheet! :P
  17. Must remember don't bait the mod! AWDF is prob my fave though its close, so i'm glad if the next album ends up with a more urban edge. I loved Shape on release, hated it last year, now like it again, very confusing. I didn't like the Round Round mix at first, but now i kinda like all the extra verses etc. though its so not punchy enough to have been the single mix but its nice if you liked the song i think I'm sure 3 will be my favourite after the summer of course though :P

Was thinking the same thing! Simon listed them on here a while ago, will dig them out if i can find unless he has them handy and can repost them *nudge*
  19. I'm sure this is the usual press hyberbole, but nothing wrong with getting smashed once in a while, i mean its not as if she assaulted a toilet attendant in the club or anything :kink:
  20. Legend indeed! Thank gawd someone else finally said it! I've been listening to Change all weekend, haven't given it this much 1 on 1 time since last year so it was due  Just bought TIMW Amelle Mix today though, in the 2 for £10 in HMV (and a copy of catfights for my car, someone needs to buy it ffs). Never heard the new Taller before, its quite weird but very nice to here Amelle sing Follow Me Home and Gotta Be You, haven't got further into the album, but its nice to listen to something new (for me) from the babes :D
  21. "The group, who are currently "re-promoting" their sixth album Catfights And Spotlights, previously performed at the venue in July 2004." Are they? I thought they were getting as far away from it as possible...
  22. I thought i may find this comment in this thread... :P I hope it is amazingness when i finally go back to it! And loving Just Don't Need This is yours Next Babe. I love the breakdown bit in the middle of that song, so cool! Need to think of my own list...
  23. not sure if this is worth it weekly, nice idea just don't know that i'd be bothered. More likely i would if we submitted a top10 or top5, though you could still produce an overall top20 from that? Will be similar to the "what sugababes song are you listening to?" thread though
  24. lol. I have on two threads, as have a few other people but no reply so far. I think it might be from GA official forum posts, though someone corrected one of the figures last week from a previous MW report from a couple of weeks back, so hard to know just how accurate they are. "Decade" is 2000-2009 in terms of this (imaginary) award, and as you say it'll be the higher total as MW confirmed their single sales and album sales are reasonably up to date as we know Catfights isn't selling much and the back catalogue is quite steady other than Overloaded which could have gone up by a few 1000 more i'd wager. I have a spreadsheet which i'm keeping up to date with official sales and accurate estimates when they are posted, the babes are clearly still ahead overall at the moment though not in singles anymore i believe

Confusingly, i agree with both of you! No1 does matter, and can create an incredible amount of positive PR, improve airplay, public profile, get them talked about/interviewed again etc. which will lead to improved sales. That's the whole reason the chart was created, to promote music and if no1s didn't matter they wouldn't still be doing it and all us loons wouldn't be arguing over things like whether Girls Aloud have 17 or 20 consecutive top 10s! Ultimately it is sales that matter to record companies though, and chart position is merely a vehicle for that. Also, if the promise is steaming turd, why did it sell really well as well as making no1? The two aren't mutually exclusive (obviously), being at no1 helped them shift more, and while i can say hand on heart OOC is not their best output to date (though you'd think it was with the plaudits being ladled onto GA at the moment) i don't think its so bad! Other things can create a buzz too though, as you say look at sweet about me. I think a combined release (like GA did and it really worked) and chalking up another no1 would help cement their comeback, but they absolutely need a scorcher of a tune, no doubt about it ;) So is this album more urban then? I love AWDF so i'm hoping so, but in a very cutting edge babesy way, as it was back then :)
