Albums
thought this may interest ppl, mentioned as an aside in singles thread but more belongs here: Album sales last year were around 130k for Change, 80k for Overloaded, and 85k for Catfights, with roughly 20k+ from their other catalogue, making around 315k :) Certainly not over 350k as they didn't make MW's list this year. Change alone sold more than that total in 2007 :(

Singles
This is the difficulty. We get regular album updates but not for singles. When No Can Do was released they said Sugababes had sold over 3million singles in total but the individual sales last we have don't quite reach that by a fair bit. We get regular album updates for all though which loads of other artists' fans would kill for so hard to complain. Also, noticed that 2007 Change (single) on physical release week sold 11,912 copies to get number 13 (doubling sales from previous week), which was Xmas week, usually big sales. Around the same time this year (actually week after Xmas when single sales are usually lower though not as much nowadays thanks to Xmas gift cards for downloads apparently), NCD sold 12,890 copies to hit 23. I mean ok, sales are generally more encouraging now but it's interesting Change wasn't regarded as the biggest of flops (though was really a bit), but yet NCD was declared a flop before release and most were relieved to see it limp as high as 23. Perhaps its sales will be about the same as Change's overall, which isn't bad, its still holding up so far and has sold about 32k up to last week by my reckoning (position above did about 7.5k last week :)) Thats great about the 500k singles, shame they didn't manage the albums list. So averaging a little less than 400k a year if you consider they've sold over 3.1mil by now and have been going about 8 years, so last year was amazingly still above average :D Album sales last year were around 130k for Change, 80k for Overloaded, and 85k for Catfights, with roughly 20k+ from their other catalogue, making around 315k, they can't have been far off :)

Almost Saturday Chart w/k ending 23rd Jan 2009
thanks Tom :) Seems weird, i thought it'd just be the week as i've seen some things which go to no1 the week they are 1st available to pre-order then fall the week after (when they would have more pre-orders in total), but i guess its just coz whatever else becomes available to pre-order/near its release overtakes it...

If You Seek Amy Vs. I Kissed A Girl instrumental (mash-up)
Wow, that Rocks! they should play it in clubs, great promo for f*** Amy  I really like how in the video they kind of make Madonna the Amy character, Brit looking for her but she's all elusive, clever use of the me against the music vid

Circus ;; Survivor ;; R18
I'm surprised tracks like quicksand and trouble are so high- wasn't one only for German iTunes and the other an ITunes pre-order only? Do most people even have these?!

7 Digital chart - tracks
isn't Lily Allen a pre-order though, so the sales won't count 'til release week?

Circus - 6th Studio Album
correct :) i think 100, 200, and 300k would make sense. Better spacing and make silver and gold more of an achievement. I think Platinum is ok in relation to the size of our music market versus the units needed to achieve it in other countries Oh, and by the by, since you all seem very excited about it i'm glad to tell you *drumroll* CIRCUS WAS CERTIFIED PLATINUM IN THE UK THIS WEEK! (Source Chartsplus/BPI Awards) Amazing, she has really shown what comeback is :) Still hope Blackout scrapes over that line one day, i wish they were selling it cheap off the back of Circus more but they seem to just want to distance her from it (all that negative PR crap)

GA becoming highest selling female act of the 00's in UK?
they only have 'til the end of the year though. I think they might in singles (with a 3rd single), but the gap's still too big in albums, so overall the babes will have it at least for the noughties. If both bands do a quarter 4 release this year again though as is the fashion, it could be a huge battle i think! Quite exciting though, they're both bucking the trend :)

No Can Do [Single Thread]

Mutya! Up 107%
Not exactly. It is for albums below a certain dealer price (price record company sell to the retailer for) which therefore are ineligible to chart on the main album chart. Full of "very best of" cash ins which you see in supermarkets, and some old studio albums which record companies drop the price of to shift a few more, usually in the wake of a new album (e.g. GA's tangled up, which is now Budget following the huge success of OOC, and is 3 in the budget chart this week- wasn't even top75 anymore before it was made budget 6 weeks ago). Mutya has dropped from 4 completely out of the Budget top50 if anyone even cares btw. With no woolworths "halfpenny CD sale" no-one will touch it now (even though its £5 in fair numbers in WHS)

Catfights And Spotlights [6th Album Discussion]
I know what you mean. I think they have the time to do it right as they're starting early this year but Island wouldn't have it any other way anyway. They want the sales this financial cycle and if the babes don't deliver sooner rather than later they will just want to offload them after this album. Look how they treated Mutya ffs- dumped after 1 album below expectations. I mean 100k isn't a complete disaster is it? top75 maybe, though i didn't think this album would ever, until cheapo price when album 7 was huge anyway. Rose to 96 last week (up 19 places) so combining this with the price cut it could happen. Don't think they'll be revisiting single 3 somehow though... Glad they've just dropped the price now, any earlier could have hurt NCD. The album seems quite high in all the online and in-store charts (e.g. top40) but somehow this doesn't filter through to the official chart normally, they've been higher for weeks in shops everywhere i look than according to OCC

Singles
must've been non-itunes downloaders, since its peak on there is about 38. Another download service? Fancy that! Oh and Girls dropped to 83 this week. Fair drop, not top100 on itunes now either and i'm guessing the physical will be pretty dried up as its not in the top40 there either... Prob that's its run now, and just a few thousand more sales over the next few weeks

No Can Do [Single Thread]
down to 47 on itunes

Albums
Updated your post (bits in bold) with this week's info. Big drop sadly. Change has also dropped back out the top200 but there seems to be less stock/less prominent in the weekly offers now :( Still good it's continuing to sell Oh and Catfights up to 96 this week (can't believe thats not posted yet)

Almost Saturday Chart w/k ending 23rd Jan 2009
I know, the thread is immense its the traffic thats the problem not Martin! I'm really glad he (and others) take the time, its info we just wouldn't have otherwise. I've always wondered tom, when Dave (or yourself) list the top preorders, is that only those copies preordered in the last 7 days or is it a cumulative total from when a record is available to preorder until its release? Has always bugged me a bit

GA becoming highest selling female act of the 00's in UK?
Would be cool if since as its their 20th single which is kind of a landmark, Musicweek published a full list of all their single sales (they have done similar things in the past occasionally) :)

Girls Aloud • The Loving Kind
Just read the thread, cheers for the heads-up on the extra 7digital remix, its pretty good, so anyone who is in love with their ipod should still download and import it. Also will buy the Utah Saints mix on ITunes since its on there now. 2 more sales! :) If i ordered the vinyl now do you think it'll count for sunday chart or will it only be on dispatch? 14 and 100 on iTunes. Ok, not top10 and their bars combined are still less than Kanye at 8 but they are climbing again which is more important than the absolute number as it suggests they are gaining momentum. Is there iTunes peak 12 so far? Also no 13 on the 7digital chart, Kanye wasn't top20 so they seem to be ahead of him elsewhere *crosses fingers*

Girls Aloud • Memory of You
Was this the song listed as "Japan" before? I thought that was to be the TLK b-side or is that vinyl only or something? Quite good, but not their best and better as B-side vs. the tracks on OOC (well mainly)

Almost Saturday Chart w/k ending 23rd Jan 2009
Yep SD dropped to 186 (124 places) this week. Is that nearly a record?! Thanks for doing Tom, more chart and less chat than the mids, and more complete and up to date to boot (Not taking anything away from Martin though who puts loads of time in). Love this thread, and your commentary was very Dave-esque so i'm not missing him!

Girls Aloud - The Loving Kind: predict
We can only hope its done, its now just a waste of oxygen, rehashing stuff! Here here, bring on the 20th, i think they will stick too, or surprise us and rise to 9. I don't mind if they hit 10 or 8, they've never had a peak at either of those before and i'd love them to do the whole 10 :) May buy another physical on Sat after the fri mids and almost saturday, will see how it goes though i'll probably donate it to someone nice

Girls Aloud - The Loving Kind: predict
I wholeheartedly agree, and you're right there are differing opinions, but does it bother you much? You've been very active posting on the topic on this thread. I hope not, but perhaps you should resist being baited by those who fancy a flame war in future. Where do you think TLK will land now then? Any advance? I haven't even read the mids yet today! :o

More Zavvi stores to close - updated
The unit isn't that large though, it used to be a really big Virgin Megastore but they sold most of their basement to HMV next door which is now pretty huge as their basment was already a fair size! Probably as they opened a Flagship store in Buchanan street which is over like 3/5 floors with coffee shop inside and big central escalators and they seem to be leaving that open. Was certainly handy having Zavvi next to HMV but sadly HMV beat it on range and price anyway. The other Glasgow stores which are changing to HMV at The Fort and Silverburn are places where there is no HMV already and only the fort has a poky WHS with literally 1 rack of chart CDs so they'll make a killing and it'll probably just be a slight improvement from a consumer PoV, as HMV has been better recently and they are nice big units. Hope they're keeping the staff though last thing needed is more redundancies...

Girls Aloud - The Loving Kind: predict
Sugababes sales are undervalued here. Musicweek confirmed on Girls release week that the girls had sold 2.9mil singles in the UK, plus Girls and No can Do so far would add another 200k, i.e 3.1million. See the topic on GA forum regarding this for more disscussion, and lets keep on prediction topic please
