  1. The little twirp is right though, and is the only observant one of the bunch As a chart record this is true, and until they change the name of the singles chart that will sadly be the case from a chart rules pov 20 number 1s?! eh? i know you like them but come on! You say this as if there is special rules for these. Anything charting on the singles chart is considered as such. This debate was carried out in a consecutive top10 thread about a month ago. Lots of bands have had runs broken by what their fans deem as "exceptions". It was made available to download individually, a video made and aired on music TV. GA obviously don't count it as TLK CD states on the front "celebrating 20 singles" but this is completely irrelevant from a chart record PoV whether an individual band counts it or not. You ackowledge the media are incorrect yet choose to go along with them? Thats the saddest thing i've heard all year! What a life must you lead if you choose to believe everything you read in the paper (even when you know its wrong) End of day, i'm a chart fan and a GA fan. Their run if we are applying rules rigidly (or consider certain criteria to constitute a single e.g. a music video like St Trinian's had which was played on TV, and also Disturbia by Rihanna for a more successful example) is broken at 17, still a female group record. But we're basically squabbling over one word here; CONSECUTIVE. Take that out and its still 20 top 10s which is also a female group record! In prediction sense to try and bring this back on topic, I still think top 10, and bought my physical today which obviously will make all the difference

Its really just coincidence as with a lot of these weird ones: Chart records are more interesting, like the one below which was a record actually administered by Guinness in the old days but no-one seems to care about now but is amazing: Rihanna spent a whopping total of 129 weeks on the singles chart last year- that's around 2.5 songs in the chart every week of the year. This is close to the record set by Oasis of 134 weeks in a calender year in the 90s She has also taken 8 singles off of an album (albeit with a deluxe re-release), is this a female record? (I believe Michael Jackson has done more with Thriller). She also appeared on a 9th single with T.I. (although not included on her album unless it is re-re-reloaded ) although only 5 were released in 2008, this could also be a female record. Comments welcome, anyone know any other big runs or the top act for each year? Rundown: Umbrella 19 weeks (of total 51 by end of 2008) Shut Up and Drive 2 (21) Don't Stop the Music 31 (34) Hate that i love you 8 (19) Take a Bow 22 (22) If i never see your face again (with Maroon 5) 11 (11) Disturbia 24 (24) Live Your Life (with T.I.) 7 (7) Rehab (with Justin Timberlake) 5 (5)
  3. 07 30 LOVING KIND - GIRLS ALOUD Good news and Sats going up to 3! :o that would be impressive! They may tail off as the week goes on though
  4. I agree, the sound is consistent (and good) but predictable. It reached a peak with TU, so while i like OOC its fallen off a peak and i wasn't surprised by it at all Classic GA lyrics and really catchy! The other song which is best lyrically is Bow Wow, but its a bit mad so not sure as a single. Love is pain is good (as is turn to stone) but they are far too repetitive so don't represent the best quality singles. Untouchable is too long in current form and is a cracking album track so should remain that way imho. I've always seen Love is the Key as the third single, even if its not the third best song on there in everybodys opinion, it works the best as a single from whats left for sure and i think with the GA party mix and all that on the ads they were kinda doing some early stealth promotion for it, sort of grooming it as the next single :)
  5. They were, see earlier posts. GA "won" in the sense they were placed at 9 on physical release week vs. Sugas at #15, buts its not a competition! Its in Guinness and on stickers on their singles etc that Sugababes are the most successful Girl Group of the 00s as they have sold the most, short of changing that sticker it doesn't make a huge difference. Thanks for the calculation and figures though, interesting to see side by side. In terms of sales, Sugas are ahead but they did get a head start with the one touch era which didn't really give them a huge boost anyway tbh, other than that release rate is roughly the same. Oh and Sugababes single sales total was confirmed by MW as 2.9mil on release week of Girls +200k for Girls and NCD (so far) so they are a little ahead still (-120k for WTW if it is excluded in GAs case also). Albums they have cleared 4mil now :) I've always thought that with GA doing so consistently well on singles chart they would probably scrape by the babes at some point, as Sugas are usually held up in this comparison by the huge sales of their leads but with OOC project giving GA a real boost vs. C&S, i think GA will have it by the end of '09. In terms of albums Sugas have always been the consistent big sellers (present album excluded) except for their GHs vs GAs which makes sense as GA are such a consistent singles act and its a singles collection. Again, OOC has given them a real boost too though. In short by the end of the noughties (ie. end of '09) i think GA will have the single record unless the Sugas have a huge lead single AYN stylee later this year. On the album front i think the babes will stay ahead, despite OOCs and TSO's brill sales atm. So... in total babes will prob stay ahead overall, though there will be little in it. FANTASTIC for them both, proving there is room for multiple Girl Groups at once. Oh, and on the Spice Girls note, they have sold over 7.5mil singles and 5mil albums mainly in a much shorter period so they beat both groups on both counts by miles (nearly beat Sugas and GAs combined total) but Spice fever was like miniature beatles, GA or Sugas have never come close to that level of ubiquity since conception

Well Woolworths is closed now so sure she'll be tumbling this week! Though my local WHS has a suspiciously similar rack of sale CDs this week that it didn't have b4... Still loads of Mutya but they're asking for £5

Falls 10 places to 19 this week. Think its off R1 playlist :( Rises 3 on TV chart though to 16 :)
  8. n01 physical pre-order, here's hoping, though will have to downgrade my original prediction as this has not risen like i thought it would, expected it to be top10 by now originally

Good for Kylie though shame it fell out of top20 from the mids :( Hardly a flop- its a remix album, unpromoted which was only really selling to hardcore fans. Her last remix album Mixes only made 63 or something so its her most successful yet i'm sure! Also, it seems the supermarkets underestimated demand- i was in big Asdas and Tesco this week who only had 1 rack each of her album which sold out by about wed and they still didn't have more in by sat :o i blame EUK!
  10. Charts+ (weekly chart newsletter) post it, but not sure if budget chart is available without subscription fees. If you are looking for anything in particular just post/pm me and will try to help :)

btw, Mutya will not be troubling the top200 anytime soon- she's charting on the Budget album chart! (like GA's tangled up and Snow Patrol's Eyes Open is now!) up to 4 this week if memory serves so selling ok but prob record company thought this was the most realistic way to claw back some money on the project... <_<
  12. No, as i said above it would say 2x platinum then. They would never have managed to ship 200k at this point when the album wasn't even top40 at the time. I think my explanation is more plausible (of course as its mine ) Also TIMW and 3 aren't certified 3x platinum (although they may be eligible by now). Island would need to apply for this (and the shipment data would then be audited before the award). AWDF was certified 3x platinum around the time of overloaded's release- a bit of good PR for the album! NB - There are loads of albums around which have sold far more than their certification and quite a few who've shipped a lot more than they've sold (usually a very hyped new release which dies on its ass in release week)

Sugababes - Overloaded 633,639 from musicweek sales (up to 3/1/09 inclusive) :) still selling well about 14k in 2-3 weeks i think! :o
  14. thats good. Airplay is huge and fans have their copy pre-ordered to the max really couldn't ask for more surely with its combined release it will be top10...
  15. totally. downloads may have lower sales but longer runs often :)

only prob is, my woolies were bundling CDs in batches of 5 for £5 and just ringing through "CD sales" on the receipt so not sure a lot of the sales would've counted. Also on the last day tills were off and no receipts so again no sales data i suspect. And lets face it, with the no of copies left everywhere no-one was buying it until this week when it was super cheap! So far i'm not loving it i have to say... :(

C&S fell 2 places this week to 115. Hopefully we'll see a rise this week as sales are poor across the board and catfights sales are consistently poor! (and maybe NCD will help? *crosses fingers*) Overloaded up to 67 as already mentioned Change falls 10 places to 145. Still, 3 albums in top200 not bad :)
  20. lol, you should manage them jark! I noticed this months ago myself, and i've seen it occasionally for other artists too. As said, if it was certified 2xplatinum, the certification would say that and it doesn't. Also, Change was far too far off at that point for it to have shipped enough for 2x certification. It is either a duplicate application in error, or perhaps the record company reapplied as there was some error in the original certification (no all data is displayed on the website version i believe), so the later one is simply the correction. What are Change's sales now? Last official i think i saw was 495k but wiki (reliable as always ) lists 502k. Its a very exact figure it lists and sounds plausible given its been a couple of months more and Change has troubled the top200 again. Anyone know?
  21. Well Let Go was certified 5xplatinum which means 1.5mil+ sold to retail Her others were certified platinum which means at least 300k each. Check year end charts for exact figures, will look if i have time and try to update slightly (think her forum has some figures, probably haven't changed dramatically other than for the last album a bit)

There are other download sites other than iTunes! Though it seems to be something people find hard to believe on here... sure it won't include albums, they are still 90-95% physical sales :) Cheers Dave, my point exactly and very interesting as always! Thanks to all who answered my earlier musings :D
  23. Totally! It bugs me its shortened and spliced with that other bit in the radio edit though. Great its on the way back up, not dropping like a stone would kind of prove its minor success was probably not all down to crazy fans buying in release week
  24. sure Branson would strike a deal with a new shop to provide stalls much like 3 did with Superdrug (weird choice wasn't it?) as Virgin mob is still his and not Zavvi's. They won't can the airtime provider i'm sure!
  25. You do love your 3! I would never claim to "own" it more than you  Weirdly, its the only one i haven't really listened to since its era, i'm saving it to stave off withdrawal when this project ends and we're waiting on studio album 7!
